  • Indesign CS3-JS - Problem in reading text from a text file

    Can anyone help me...
    I have an problem with reading text from an txt file. By "readln" methot I can read only the first line of the text, is there any method to read the consecutive lines from the text file.
    Currently I am using Indesign CS3 with Java Script (for PC).
    My Java Script is as follows........
    var myNewLinksFile = myFindFile("/Links/NewLinks.txt")
    var myNewLinks = File(myNewLinksFile);
    var a = myNewLinks.open("r", undefined, undefined);
    myLine = myNewLinks.readln();
    alert(myLine);
    function myFindFile(myFilePath){
    var myScriptFile = myGetScriptPath();
    var myScriptFile = File(myScriptFile);
    var myScriptFolder = myScriptFile.path;
    myFilePath = myScriptFolder + myFilePath;
    if(File(myFilePath).exists == false){
    //Display a dialog.
    myFilePath = File.openDialog("Choose the file containing your find/change list");
    return myFilePath;
    function myGetScriptPath(){
    try{
    myFile = app.activeScript;
    catch(myError){
    myFile = myError.fileName;
    return myFile;
    Thanks,

    Hi Bharath Raja G,
    If you want to use readln, you'll have to iterate. I don't see a for loop in your example, so you're not iterating. To see how it works, take a closer look at FindChangeByList.jsx--you'll see that that script iterates to read the text file line by line (until it reaches the end of the file).
    Thanks,

  • InCopy/InDesign CS3 Assignment Problem

    Hello everyone--
    For the past three years we've used Version Cue CS3 for workflow on our publication.  For the most part its worked fine.  Recently though, we've had to get a new computer for an office on the West Coast and a new router on our office on the East Coast (the operating system we use on the East Coast is Windows XP Profesional.)  The computer on the West Coast is running Windows 7, and it seems InCopy CS3 installed on it without a problem--until it came time to do our publication.
    The way our system is set up is the West Coast machine uses a VPN tunnel to see our network here--so all it really has to do is connect to the Version Cue server's IP address.  This set up worked fine when the machine was a Windows XP based machine, but since the changeover, InCopy doesn't seem to be reading the assignment files correctly.  For example, on an Indesign File the copy fits fine and dandy in the layout, and the assignment looks okay when I open it up on InCopy over here.  When InCopy opens it up on the Windows 7 machine, the body copy is invariably 3-5 lines over and any formatting changes made from the Windows 7 machine, like changing words to italics, won't be reflected on the updated assignments file. (I confirmed this by emailing our West Coast editor the assignment file directly and InCopy CS3 still wasn't reading it correctly.)  Also, at one point we apparently lost some big changes made over the weekend but changes like new headlines held.  Any ideas on why this is happening?
    Also, and I'm not sure this is related, but since we installed our new RV082 router, we've been getting strange "Version Cue server offline messages" every so often, and then when we go into a project Version Cue suddenly reads it as "online and connected" again. InDesign CS3 often hangs whenever we try to open up a file on the Version Cue server.  The only way we've been able to get InDesign to start up is to delete the recovery folders and synchronize everything first--this, needless to say, has been a bit of a time waster.
    All our programs are CS3 and except for the West Coast machine, all are running Windows XP pro.
    Thanks for your help!

    We are installing and using the software under the administrator logins.
    My main concern is that we purchased computers that have a processor that is incompatible with Adobe InCopy/InDesign CS3.   We purchased two types of PC's, some with AMD Atholon II processors and some with Intel Core2 vpro processors.  InDesign/Incopy CS3 were going to go on the Intel's (more power computer) and the InCopy was going to only go on the AMD's.
    Prior to receiving the CS3 versions of the software, I hadn't been aware that was the version we were being assigned by our corporate office.  After looking at the requirements of CS3 on the adobe site, it only mentions Intel Processors as basic requirements.
    (We purchasd the computers with AMD's to save some money....the users requiring InCopy didn't need "as much computer" as the InDesign users).
    Could the processor be the problem?

  • InDesign CS3 Intallation Problem

    I was wondering if anyone can help. I have downloaded the free 30 day trial of InDesign CS3 3 times now and installed. Each time I try and load the program it comes up with the following message:
    "Adobe InDesign is missing required files. Please reinstall.
    Missing files:\Program Files\Common Files\TypeSupport\...\CP1252.TXT"
    I dont know why this keeps happening or even what to do. Please help because I want to know if this is worth buying or not.

    >I have downloaded the free 30 day trial of InDesign CS3 3 times now and installed.
    This could be a problem. Trial versions can be installed only once on a computer without doing a low-level format in order to keep people from using them over and over without buying the real thing.
    Unfortunately, the CS3 installers are horribly sensitive to a lot of configuration issues and if you haven't got your system properly prepared (which is not well documented anywhere, though you'll find lots of information scattered through these forums), the installation will fail, sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes after nearly an hour of what looks like success. I have no idea at what point the installer writes the information, or where, that tells the demo it has been previously installed.
    With the fully licensed version there are a number of options, including a cleanup script, that can put the system back into a state where the installer has a chance of working. It has been suggested a number of times that doing the cleanup might allow a failed demo to install, but I'm not aware of anyone who has tried and posted back that it worked, or didn't work, so I have no way to advise you in that regard.
    It's a little unclear to me just what has happened, though. Are you saying that InDesign actually launches, but throws up an error? If that's the case, it might be possible to copy the missing file from a working system. That certainly worked for earlier versions and the "missing required cmap files" error.
    The file you referenced should be in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\TypeSupport\Unicode\Mappings\Win, along with about a dozen others. You may be seeing only the first missing file, so I'd recommend copying the entire folder.
    Worth buying? That depends on a lot of factors. What do you plan to use it to do? What are you using now? How much will it cost? How long can you wait?
    As a professional I use it everyday, and the upgrade cost From CS2 was paid in increased productivity in a matter of months. Students are eligible for discount pricing that makes it eminently worthwhile to buy before graduation -- you can use it commercially later. If you can wait, the usual pattern is that an upgrade is issued about every 18 to 24 months, so you might expect the CS4 versions to be out by early 2009. One could hope the Installers would be fixed.

  • InDesign CS3 Graphic Problem

    Hello,
    I'm using Adobe InDesign CS3 and I used it to create a logo. I'm trying to post the logo as a header on a blog, but when I post it the quality is considerably poor. The only kind of upload the blog will accept is JPEG... but the highest quality JPEG I export (2400 ppi, progressive) won't upload because it's too large. The other levels of quality don't seem to make a difference after the JPEG is upload it all looks the same. What kind of file should I export for it to look high quality on the site? Thanks in advance.

    Gene Neptune: Indesign CS3
    Have created two huge files for banners (45x102") Each file has four 350dpi images that are sized and placed identically on both files. The rest of the graphics on each are basically identical.
    One of the files is 15.42MB and the other is 6.34MB. What could be wrong?
    In attempting to analyze this, I began deleting graphics, image frames, text frames, everything from the pasteboard until there was nothing left. The file size still shows 15.42MB. I taketh away but the file size stayeth the sameth. WTF

  • InDesign CS3 installation problems

    Hi
    I've just bought an Adobe InDesign CS3 but I'm not able to install it:/ When pressing setup.exe an installation process starts but suddenly crashes and an error occurs: Critical errors were found in setup - Incompatible payloads already installed. I have Win XP with all system requirements. Can you help me?

    Search the Knowledgebase for manual removal and you should find a reference, and a link, to the CS3 cleanup script.
    The downside of running this is that it's going to remove all things Adobe, but it should leave you with a system ready to do a clean install.

  • Indesign CS3 tagging problem??

    Hi, need help
    i need to tag all objects on a page without modifying any of their positions & content.
    so, i have used Ctr A (select all) and Ctr L to lock all postion.
    But found that in INDESIGN CS3, images that are position locked were not allowed to tag.
    Adobe will gives below error:
    "Cannot modify elements that contain locked content, or are contained by locked content. Please unlock or check out the content and try again."
    This does not happen in CS2, is there a way to remove this restriction in INDESIGN CS3 etc?
    pls advise.
    Thank you so much.

    hi eboda,
         Try any function like unlock and what function you handled in cs2.

  • InDesign CS3 Index problem

    I am trying to combine the indexes of several 30-40 pg. stories in an inDesign CS3 book for print; however, once I minimize the story and try to paste its index into a separate blank document, the cursor is no longer "loaded." It seems that the only way I can create an index is at the end of each individual story, then paste them all into a document and manually alphabetize them. Is there a method by which I can create the index for the entire book at one time?

    The help file says you can index the whole book:
    Long document features / Creating an index
    Generate an index
    Once youve added index entries and previewed them in the Index panel,
    youre ready to generate an index story to place in your document for
    publication.
    An index story can appear as a separate document or in an existing
    document. When you generate an index story, InDesign compiles index
    entries and updates page numbers across your document or book. If you
    add or delete index entries or update numbering in your document,
    however, youll need to regenerate the index to update it.
    If an index marker appears in overset text when you generate the index,
    you are asked if you would like to include these markers in the index.
    If you click Yes, the entry appears in the index without a page number.
    etc

  • DON'T like Indesign CS3 Palettes! Bring back CS2's

    I'd like to know if any other designers out there despise CS3's new palette style as much as I do?
    I loved in CS2 that you could group them and pull them in and out from the side of the window from the left and right sides. I had a whole system set up in CS@ for fast efficient work flow and now, I've been completely slowed down by the new set up. I've been working with it for 3 weeks now and still haven't adapted.
    My main dislikes:
    1. Having them all strung together means that when you click one out you can't see two full palettes at the same time. I need to see the swatches and color palettes all the time together.
    2. I used to doc my long pallets together on the left side of the screen under my tools, the links, glyphs, and pages. I could have them open and also palettes multiple ones on the right side of the screen as well.
    If anyone knows of a plug-in that could simulate the palette set up of CS2 please let me know.

    >Showing a screen shot of the palettes minimized to icons is a tad disingenuous isn't it?
    Is it? In what way?
    >What did you do take my cue?
    No, I wondered what was awkward about that arrangement. I still don't know. You don't seem to be able to tell me.
    > your suggestions ignored the reasons behind the expressed preferences
    After re-reading: yes, it ignored Michelle's but not Eric's.
    >What Eric or any other user feels comfortable with is entirely up to them and can't be dictated by what is "possible."
    Yes, I sometimes don't feel comfortable with the sun rising in the east, especially when I sleep in a room that faces that way.
    Isn't that what trying to satisfy the needs of millions of people is all about? That you can't please everyone?
    A sentence like "The ability to attach more items below it (the tool panel) is all that is needed." is like "I only want to plug my FireWire cable into the USB port"...
    There are good technical reasons why you can't dock other panels to the tool panel. So there is need for compromise. You do understand about compromises, do you?
    >than any kind of rebuttal
    Only as in "In that respect nothing has changed, so why do you mention it?" (Thinks: Possibly because Eric asked for it.)
    It sums up to:
    - you
    b can
    use the left edge if you want to
    - you
    b can't
    dock other panels to the tools panel but then: you never could
    - you can easily stack twenty iconized panels in one minimized column, while in CS2 you couldn't read the labels any more when you stacked more than ten
    - you can maximize more than one palette in CS2 while CS3 allows only one icon to be maximized at a time
    The last is the only real disadvantage I can see.

    Do you understand the problems John is discussing there?

  • InDesign CS3 DoScript Problem

    Hi All,
    Windows / CS3 / JavaScript
    I have a problem with doScript, my logic is "All the scripts stored to the server", from that we have to invoke the script using doScript from the client system, it is working very fine, Suppose if i create two options ADD and REMOVE in the server script. When i double click from the client script it will not show the options, it will directly invoking the ok button. So i didn't get options.
    Is there any way to show those options.

  • Strange InDesign CS3 palette behavior

    I can't use the number/text fields in palettes to make changes. For example to change a font to a specific size I would normally highlight the text, highlight the size in the Character palette, and type in the desired size. What is happening now is the type size in the palette doesn't stay highlighted — the focus shifts from the palette to the selected text on the page. This happening with every palette field.
    I have tried different documents, both new and existing. I have deleted the preferences manually and by launching InDesign while holding down shift + control + option + command. This morning I reinstalled the entire Creative Suite and the problem still persists.
    InDesign has also started stealing focus from other applications — if I switch from InDesign to another application, like Photoshop, InDesign will pop back in front almost immediately.
    Does anybody have any ideas on how I can fix this?

    I think there was a version of the Suitcase Autoactivate plugin that interferred with typing in fields.
    Are you running Suitcase?
    EDIT: Disable the Suitcase plugin. See if they have a newer one on the website.

  • Adobe InDesign CS3 Installation Problem...Over One Year and Counting

    Well, it's been over a year since I purchased the Pagemaker to InDesign upgrade. I've tried at lease 15 times to load the software with the same "shared components failed to install" errors.
    I've tried the Web for answers, the Clean-up utility and even called the tech support line. The answer (after waiting at least an hour on the phone) was to back up all of my files (on my time, not theirs) and run the scrub utility with the "undocumented" option 4...but watch out...
    As a user of Pagemaker for nearly 15 years, I can't believe that Adobe (formerly Aldus) would release a product that cannot be used. I spent a bit over $200 for the upgrade...they got my money...I got a DVD of software that cannot be installed successfully.
    As a customer for over 3 versions of the Pagemaker software, I find it a bit odd that I would have to spend hours on my computer trying to get Adobe software to install properly.
    Is it just me, or have others given up on this?

    > and even called
    > the tech support line. The answer (after waiting at least an hour on

    And so what happened? I think Adobe is the first place you should go
    with installation issues, and you should (and they should too) persist
    until you get past the problem.
    Tech support is a PITA. They make you do things you don't want to do
    (like back up all your files on your own time); they make you jump
    through silly hoops and crawl under the desk pulling parts out of your
    computer; but they also have an obligation to get it working on your
    computer, whatever it takes.
    Call them back. Get a number. Keep track of who you talk to. Ask them to
    bump you up to the next level. Keep trying.

  • Indesign cs3 pdf problem

    I'm working with cs3 on vista and I made a graphic in AI and brought it over to indesign. Now I'm trying to create a pdf file out of indesign and the vector graphic on that page is growing in places and distorting on the pdf file. Both in AI and ID the graphic looked great. Cant figure out why it's happening.

    It exported fine here, using the [Press Quality] preset.
    My first step would be to replace your preferences. You'll find instructions for CS3 here: http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/InDesign/5.0/help.html?content=WSa285fff53dea4f8617383751 001ea8cb3f-6d1e.html
    Be sure to click open the section on Restore all Preferences. I've made a comment on that page for how to manually replace the preferences in XP, which allows you to keep a back-up of your old ones with customizations if they turn out not to be corrupt after all. The path information give is for XP, but the paths are similar in Vista. I believe they are:
    C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign\[version] and
    C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign\[version]\caches.

  • [Indesign CS3]Color problem

    Hello
    I have a document consisting of 4 pages and pretty weird problem. I have drawn rectangle with the rectangle tool on first of the pages. Then I copied the rectangle to page no 2, 3, 4. Now the magic. The color of these rectangles is different after exporting to PDF( rectangle on pages 1,3 have different color than those on pages 2,4) although they are all the same in Indesign.
    Any ideas ?

    What else is on the pages? It sounds like a transparency flattener color space crossover. See: http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b78409/6

    Hi, I know this is an old version of ID but my son has to use it for his online summer school course and I'm having trouble installing it. I'm able to run setup but then nothing else happens.
