Indesign CS4 double click the file opens app. but not file

One of our systems that is running Win XP Pro SP3 with InDesign CS4 loaded and file associations fixed, when an INDD file is double clicked the application opens but the file does not. If we open INDD and go to file open and select the file it opens. Just not when double clicked. If I put the file on another system everything is fine. Anyone seen this before.

I'm pretty much at a loss. You might want to make sure that the open action is programed correctly in Windows.
Open Explorer and go to Tools > Folder Options... and scroll to .indd, then click the advanced button and select the Open action. Click Edit, and make sure that the "Application used to perform action" line includes "%1" (in quotes) after the path to InDesign. I believe the "confirm open after download" box should also be checked in the edit screen.
If that's OK, I'm guessing it has to do with SP3. Doe you have SP3 installed on the machine where it works?

The problem you got into is a known problem after updating to Tiger. It is a small 4K file that gets trashed with the update. It is called the Adobe Unit Types. Both Photoshop and Photoshop Elements need this file to function.
One way to get it back is to reinstall Photoshop, the other is to add this file again.
You can get the file from here http://www.dd.se/Tips/bildbehandling/downloads/AdobeUnitTypes.zip
It is only 3,7 KB big.
You put the file you download here:
[hard disk] /Library/ScriptingAdditions. If you don't have a Scripting Additions folder, you create it.
As you trashed Photoshop, you need to completely deinstall it to be able to reinstall it.

  • Were can i setup the double-click speed to open apps?

were can i make a setup of the mouse-click-interval?
i have problems to open a app, if i dont got the exakt double-click speed.

You can associate files from the Bridge level and the Desktop level.
In Bridge CS4, go to Preferences > File Type Associations and change it to Photoshop CS4 for the file types you want.
If you want to open files from the Windows Desktop in CS4, these are the instructions:
Do this from the Windows Desktop:
If you want your image file to open in Photoshop and it doesn't, right click on it and choose
Open with > Choose default program… select Photoshop CS4 or CS6 and checkmark "always use the selected program to open this type of file".

  • Double click won't open apps, files, etc.

We have one computer with multiple users. When I log in (sys admin) I have no problem. When wife logs in double clicking will not open anything. We have to do it manually. I'm sure a button is turned off but I can't find it. Any help out there?
    Many thanks!

Open up the Keyboard and Mouse system preferences and make sure the double-click speed is not set too fast. If it is too fast, it doesn't register the double-click unless you click very fast.

  • Double Click no longer opens apps

Since updating to Mavericks, double clicking apps no longer opens them. I have to use ommand + O. Anyone else having this issue or suggestions on how to fix it?

Thanks for your response, macjack. I did check my settings yesterday and all seem to be set correctly. After reading an article on the subject, I also rebooted my Mac in Safe Mode and tried launching an app from the finder with my bluetooth track pad. It will not work either. The article suggested that if this were the case, it could be a software issue.
In fact, all the one- and two-fingered click and point features are sticky. I have to highlight a word (by dragging across it) and then two-finger click to look up spelling options, Three-fingerd click to look up dictionary definitions is working fine. Ah, Mavericks.
And thank you  for the permissions info. I looked at the log and, yes, it said the repair was completed. Very helpful.

  • Double-click in iphoto opens Photoshop, but no image

I am assuming this is a photoshop issue, but maybe not.
I have an iMac G5, PPC, running iPhoto 5 and Photoshop CS 1.
Suffered a brownout recently and had to have Apple Store help to reboot. Since then, double-clicking an image in iPhoto launches Photoshop, but does not open an image.
I have Photoshop selected for image editing in iPhoto preferences.
I CAN use PS to simply open the image from iPhoto, but this is cumbersome due to the laundry list of nested folders.
I read one tip from a similar case suggesting this is a scripting error, and that I should drag the icon "Adobe Unit Types" from the Scripting Additons folder of Previous System into the current system Additions folder, but this has not made any difference.
Since I have no idea what I am really doing with all this, I hope someone can suggest/explain a fix. Thanks!

Thank you, Buko—my bad, missed the FAQ as I do not use these forums often.
Also, I have a general horror with reinstalling old software for fear it will mess up something else, but custom install of PS worked.

  • Double click no longer opens folders, but opens desktop

Starting a few days ago when I double click a folder on the desktop it no longer opens.  Instead, I am taken to a new desktop window that shows the folder clicked plus all other items on the desktop.  How do I restore the double click to open the folder?  I have tried resetting the double click speed with no results.  Thanks.

Open Mission Control. Close all desktops except Desktop 1 by positioning the cursor over each one and then clicking the X button in the top left corner.

    using the google highlight bar

You can open the History in the sidebar via View > Sidebar > History (Ctrl+H)<br />
Press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.
You can find toolbar buttons to open the bookmarks and the history in the sidebar in the toolbar palette and drag them on a toolbar.
Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"

  • Why does Verizon Wireless ask to confirm my email address when I touch the Google Chrome app, but not respond when the correct info is entered?

I touch the Chrome app icon on my Droid and a Verizon message comes up. It asks me to confirm my email address as shown on the screen, and has a field for entering my billing zip. When I do so, it flashes as if processing but comes right back to the same screen with the zip code field empty. I went on line and confirmed that all info in my profile was correct. Anyone out there with the same problem and/or help?

Lets get to the bottom of this, Dwix! I personally use the Google Chrome application and love it. I am confident that we can figure it out together. Did you just start using the application? Have you had this message pop-up before? You mentioned that it is a Verizon Message, does it come in a form of a text message? Is it possible for you to send us a screenshot of this message?
Please share the details needed so that we can better assist!

  • Double clicking won't open files

Since installing new Snow Leopard update I am unable to open icons by double clicking. I have to right click and then choose open. Same problem when trying to open bookmark links in Safari. Thanks

This FAQ relates to Photoshop 7 through CS4, so it may be worth checking wheter it applies to CS5 for this very same issue too:

Double-click/Drag-&-drop Photoshop files opens application but not file…
Note the last part about the missing "Adobe Unit Types" file in the Scripting Additions folder of the root level Library.
    Another solution courtesy Anne Shelbourne
    Open your Previous System folder.
    Find "Adobe Unit Types".
Copy it into: <Your current system Hard Drive>/Library/ScriptingAdditions/
    Then reboot your Mac.
However, if you happen to be running a non-English version, like Photoshop CS CE or Photoshop CS ME, it appears the missing file does not get installed. You would need to install and delete the international English version first.
I'm just speculating that this may apply in CS5 too as I don't have this latest version of Photoshop.

  • CS5 - Double clicking won't open files at times.

This randomly happens with both jpegs and RAW files.
Going to File > Open, opens them every time.
Why don't my photo files open every time with double-clicking?  This does not happen with my CS3 and does not happen with any other type of files.

  • 3.1.2 double clicking home button when music is not playing

Is the bug that double clicking home button while music is not playing didn't bring up the iPod control fixed? I don't know it's a design change or a bug, but for me it seems definitely a bug since it doesn't give anything good. Clicking home button once already terminates the application, why would anyone use double clicking to exit the application too?
This is why I'm still using 3.0. Is this fixed in 3.1.2?

It's a design change, not a bug. Although I do have to agree with you on that I preferred what double-clicking the home button originally did. There is even settings (in general settings if I can remember right) on what double-clicking the home button performs, but that isn't even an option on it.
And nope this is not fixed or redesigned in 3.1.2.
    Hope that answers your question,
    Enjoy!

  • Audio through Screen Sharing.app but not Remote Desktop?

Can anyone enlighten me as to why audio from a remote Mountain Lion machine can be heard through the Screen Sharing.app but not Apple Remote Desktop? Do they use different protocols?

Your ssh command should look something like:
    ssh -L 22590:localhost:5900 remove.mac.system.address
    Then you connect using
    Finder -> Go -> Connect to server -> vnc://localhost:22590
Have you been doing anything close to that?
