InDesign CS5.5 and Acrobat 9 compatibilty
We have purchased the CS5.5 version of InDesign and still have the CS5.5 Design Premium version of the other programs, this includes Acrobat 9, which was originally shipped with CS5. Are there any compatibility reasons we should upgrade to Acrobat X for use with InDesign CS5.5?
No, there isn't. In fact, the opposite is true. InDesign 7.5 (CS5.5) and Acrobat X support the latest update to the PDF/X specification, PDF/X-4:2010 whereas InDesign 7.0 (CS5) and Acrobat 9 only support PDF/X-4:2010. If you export PDF/X-4 from InDesign 7.5, there is a possibility that your PDF/X-4 file will not pass preflight in Acrobat 9 whereas it will pass preflight in Acrobat X. Plus, there are a large of improvements in Acrobat X.

Need to download InDesign CS5 v7 and Acrobat Pro 9.
I bought CS5 master collection last year through my college. I have a valid professional licence and serial number for all included products.
The problem is, when I purchased it through the school, they only provided a digital download of the software, and did not provide us wth CDs.
I need to reinstall InDesign and Acrobat 9, but the software has been taken down off my college's website.
I also cannot download them from adobe, because they only offer InDesign CS5.5 and Acrobat Pro X which I do not have a serial number for.
Does anyone know where I can download versions of these software?
again I need:
- InDesign CS5 v7 (not CS5.5)
- Acrobat Pro 9
(I legally paid for these software and have a legal and valid serial number and licence)Thanks for the link.
However, whenever I try to click one of the download links I get this error:

InDesign CS5.5 and Acrobat X crashing OS X system when making large pdf
All of a sudden my mac has taken to crashing when I use ID CS5.5 to make a pdf. It seems to be mainly when making a larger pdfx1-a for repro. I've been doing this daily for months, no problem. Suddenly two days ago it became a problem. You send the pdf to export and a few seconds later, black screen followed by grey screen with the 'your mac has been restarted because of a problem' message. ID then takes ages to re-load.
Neither ID nor Acrobat have updated to cause this, as far as I know, and nothing changed in thr system at that time.
I've tried trashing ID's prefs and cache files, and trashing the Acrobat prefs as well, but it still happens.
I'm on 10.9.2, Mac Mini with fusion drive and 16GB RAM.
Anyone had this or got any ideas, please?
Thanks in advance for any ideas.Hmm that's a good question.
It's lots of files, but now i think about it, they are all based on one original. I can't remember whether completely unrelated files have crashed the system, so I will test that. I think they have, because I was working on other stuff yesterday, but I will check it out.
Thanks for the reply. -

I'm using a 15" Macbook Pro running OSX6.8 and cannot upgrade. I have a subscription to Adobe CC but none of these work on this so I was on with Adobe for 5 hours trying to install and launch Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Muse, and Acrobat Pro from CS6. Well, InDesign is the only one that works and I have a ton of work due! I don't have a serial number for Photoshop or Illustrator except for CS3, and they don't work. InDesign gave me no problems. Illustrator says it can't work on this machine. Photoshop needs a serial number. I'm stumped and getting anxious and freaked out. Can anyone help? Adobe Chat is down right now.
if you have a cc subscription, close ps > sign out and then back in to your cc desktop > open ps.
ai cs6 requires:
Multicore Intel processor with 64-bit support
Mac OS X v10.6.8 or v10.7. Adobe Creative Suite 5, CS5.5, and CS6 applications support Mac OS X v10.8 and v10.9 when installed on Intel-based systems.*
2 GB of RAM (8 GB recommended)
2 GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on a volume that uses a case-sensitive file system or on removable flash storage devices)
1024 x 768 display (1280 x 800 recommended) with 16-bit video card -
I am running InDesign CS5.5 and trying to open an In Design File but getting an error message. " Cannot open the file "PDavidLCover.indd". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file me be open in another application."Please help I really need to get this file open.
Since you've shown us the folder contents it's a good bet it isn't in use (no lock file). And it doesn't look like the file is mis-named as there doesn't seem to be anything else there that would be the .indd file (but just in case, open it in TextEdit and paste the first few lines here so we can see what the file header says), so the most likely case is the file is damaged. Is that on a removable device of some sort?
You can try the tool at Repair corrupt InDesign Adobe files on Mac OS X or send me a link to the file by private message and I'll try the recovery tool I have for Windows. -
I have InDesign CS5.5 and it says the the security is no longer supported. Can you help?
What is the exact text of the message? It could be from third-party software like a virus checker.

Adobe InDesign CS5.5 and CS6 keep crashing
InDesign CS5.5 and CS6 keeps crashing while working on the documents. It's hard to identify the patteren when it's crashes. I deleted the SING/DataStore. Used FontNuke to clear all font caches but none of those helps. CS 5.5 and CS6 are installed on different macs but both crash.
CS5.5 crash data: http://pastebin.com/5PAx08tc
CS6 crash data: http://pastebin.com/dZP09DwP
Thanks in advance.I'm not an expert in reading crash reports, though I do recognze a few of the more common ones (which this is not). You read them from the top down, so the fisrt line in the crashed thread is the last thing it was doing before the crash. In the case of the CS6 crash you posted, the fisrts 8 lines of thread 0 are Apple code calls, and the last thing that was happening in ID had to do withteh Object Widget Library (I think that's what OWL stands for).
John Hawkinson is our real expert in this, but he doesn't come around this forum that much these days. You can gain some insight into reading the reports at Guide to Interpreting InDesign Crash Reports | InDesignSecrets -
InDesign CS5.5 and CS6 Breachballs
I'm running OS-10.7.4 on a 2011 MBP.
About every 3rd time I try to open a document created in a previous version of InDsign I can the endless spinning breachball.
Force quit works but then, I must re-launch holding down shift key to tried to prevent InDesign form restoring from back up which alway causes a freeze.
Is there anyway to stop InDesign from trying to restore.
Or is that the fix for the unstable nature on InDesign CS5.5 and CS6?Try SING removal :- http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/hang-freeze-open-create-file.html

InDesign CS5.5 and CS6 Hang while opening document
hello,
I have the following problem:
Indesign CS5.5 CS6 and hang up several times a day when opening documents on. the user can not make more in the program and must kill the process. After reopening the document opens without problems (probably the recovery file). I have tried all known solutions (delete Preferences, user with admin privileges, delete caches, safe boot, ...)
here a hang report, which meanwhile has been created.

Color wrong when printing to Canon i9950 from CS5 apps and Acrobat, Win7 x64
When printing from InDesign CS5 on Win 7 x64 to Canon i9950 using the Canon ICM profiles (MP1, PR1, PR2, SP1) the colour output is completely wrong!
I disable the printer driver in the print prefs (set to "manual") and under "color management" choose "Let InDesign decide..." (no other option) for "color handling", and choose one of the above profiles for "printer profile", as appropriate to the paper in the printer, and the colours are totally out of whack.
If I just set the output "printer profile" to "Adobe RGB (1998)" the output is much better, but of course it still isn't quite correct, or properly set for the individual substrates, which the Canon ICMs are supposed to do.
Interestingly, when setting output to the Canon profiles, it makes no difference whether the printer manages colour (auto) or not (manual). Also, strangely, these profiles were working fine with CS4, before installing CS5, but now they are not working in CS4 either!
So now "colour management" is a joke thanks to CS5.You might check with Canon to see if they've prepared any updated printer drivers you can download and install.
Scout around this forum, a number of folks have reported certain Epson models with similar issues. Feedback from Adobe was that they've switched to newer printer interfaces under the covers, and not all printer drivers work properly with those interfaces. In one case at least a new printer had to be purchased to fix the problem.

InDesign CS5.5 - Adobe Acrobat export (incorrect master pages and crop marks)
Hi, I've recently experienced a couple of anomalies when exporting books from InDesign to PDF.
The first issue was that, on seemingly random pages of the book, the exporter suddenly seemed to interpret the crop marks incorrectly. The book pages would go something like: left, right, left, right, right, left, right.
The second issue was that the pdf didn't display the correct master page on one page of the book. The InDesign file has sections with slight grey backgrounds to separate particular sections of the book. One of the pages in one of those grey sections just appears as white (the text remained unharmed) in the pdf though the InDesign file is as it should be.
Any suggestions?First issue: No pages are missing, the crop marks indicating whether right or left go out of l,r,l,r order.
Second issue: There is a background fill on the master page. I just checked and the attribute is fine. What's strange is that the first time I made this pdf and sent the book to print, this didn't happen. Now that I've reexported for a second print of the book it happened (the master pages haven't been touched between prints and the same print settings have been used). Is it possible that the exporter can just mess up? -
InDesign CS5 - Enter and Return keys give unexpected results
I've been using CS5 for just a few days (Mac Pro, Mac OS X 10.6.3). I've noticed that the Enter and Return keys aren't always behaving as expected. Enter doesn't give me a column break, shift-Return doesn't give me a line break but a new paragraph, and more often than not I can't select the default option in a dialog with either Return or Enter. I've just read cpsid_84345, which says this is an issue in German and Swedish language versions, but I'm using English. The 7.01 update doesn't seem to be available. Any advice?
That the KBSC files are XML doesn't guarantee faultless migration from one version to the next, probably because Adobe just forgot to cope with importing KBSCs from previous versions. It's great that InDesign offers you such flexibility with the KBSCs, but it's terrible that the implementation has been so sloppy in at least the three last versions (maybe earlier versions, too, but I try to repress the memories).
Some people have been asking Adobe to make KBSCs scriptable. This would enably you to maintain a small database with KBSCs which a script could read and feed into a new version of InDesign, or redo a KBSC file after it has become corrupt, or whatever minor or major mishap.
The more people ask for this the better: go to http://www.adobe.com/support/feature.html and request script access to the KBSCs.

InDesign CS5 panels and toolbars not working
Was curious if anyone else has had this problem. I can't seem to get my tools to show up on the left side when I open InDesign and try to get them to pop up. Also, when I try to set up panels such as Swatches, Character, etc. on my screen... I go to Window, select them, they show up on my screen but under a different name. For example, I'll click to have Character pop up, and that will show, but with the title of Paragraph. Then, if I try to view another panel, it might replace one I currently have showing with the new one. This is driving me nuts! I don't know if I should try and reinstall CS5... It also continously won't let me save, and shuts down unexpectedly. And advice would be greatly appreciated!
I'm currently running 10.5.8 and it's on a Macbook Pro. I loaded the suite on my iMac that is running 10.6.8 and that one is not having any problems. Do you think that might be the problem, that I need to update the Macbook's operating system? I have not tried the replacing preferences either, I will try that and see if it makes a difference. Thanks!

Problematic InDesign CS5 Animation and exporting, any help?
Hi there,
I am an experienced InDesign user, and have recently started using CS5.
I am using it to create a very simple flash website however I am encountering 2 problems.
1. WHENEVER I have consecutive animations, such as a) Object 1, Fly in from top, followed by b) Object 2, fly in from bottom, object 2 appears momentarily in its final location before doing its expected entry - right after object 1 has done its thing. Does that make sense?
2. When exporting as a swf, then viewing in a browser, the page may come out correctly (with the exception of problem 1), except the space around the page is grey. I would love to make this white, anyone know how?
This would be super easy if I could attach a swf but i cant for flips sake.
Really hope to get this sorted, such annoying problems. Thanks muchly
AdamThanks for the suggestion Peter. Unfortunately I was on Windows so couldn't do any time travelling. Fortunately I'd saved out a few JPEGs for approval yesterday, so managed to recreate the work using them as reference.
For anyone else reading - don't make my mistake! Remember that the Document Recovery feature is only for emergencies, and SAVE SAVE SAVE SAVE SAVE.

Why does the iPhone convert animated .GIF images?
I saved a bunch of animated .GIF files on my iPhone. When I imported them onto my computer, they were all single framed .JPG files. Why does the iPhone convert the images, and is there any way to prevent this? Thanks!

Perhaps I should know this, but I don't! I am going to be living in a VW van for 2 months with my MBP. Can I charge it with the 12 volt outlet in the van??? If not, is there some way I can charge it while I'm on the road?

The airport only finds other networks. Not the home network which I have used before. It doesn't help to search for new networks, try to manually search or add the network. Doesn't help to turn off/on the airport or even the mac. Doesn't help to r
