Indesign Package fonts folder name: "Document fonts" vs "Fonts"

Hi,
I have a few indesign packages from customers/product management for testing purposes.
The relevant part for my question is the name for the folder with fonts. Most packages would have fonts in a folder called "Document fonts", which seems to be what Indesign CC wants.
I have one package though that seems to be created properly,as in through the Indesign options to create the package and not manually (has the instructions file in it), but the fonts are in a folder called just "Fonts".  If I open it in Indesign CC (Client and Server) and fonts are not found. It works fine if I rename the folder.
So, I am not familiar at all with older indesign version, is it possible that Indesign (any version) would create a package with fonts in a folder named "Fonts" (as opposed to "Document fonts")?
thank you
Cristian

Older versions up to InDesign CS4 named the folder Fonts. It was renamed to Document Fonts when the functionality was added to temporarily install fonts for only one document. That is why the font folder has to be in same directory as the INDD file and has to have the exact name Document Fonts.
You can hold down the cmd key (Mac) and the CTRL key on Windows and go to the menu About InDesign… in the InDesign Menu on the Mac, in the Help Menu on Windows.
It will tell you the history of your file, and you can learn when this document was, made, when it was crashed, when it was recovered, when it was packaged and with which prom version and OS version. So you can identify some problems which might be inherited in a document.

  • Fonts folder - where do I put fonts from CS6 disk of extras?

Where do I file FONTS from Master Collection CS6 extras CD?

I think I understand what was on your mind since I was wondering if the fonts folder was part of the installation or a "extra" package that would just sit there if you didn't manually download it. However, I believe the fonts are automatically installed into your default library during the regular installation process. At least the following release notes suggest that, and I was able to find the fonts that were on the CS6 install disk in the library on my computer, fonts I did not have before. So, in short, I don't think you need to do anything with that font folder--it is taken care of during the regular installation. • Urgent :Using a font face name in a JtextPane

1)How can I use a font face name for setting the font of the text I display in a JTextPane.A call to textPane.setFont() does not work I could find a method StyleConstants.setFontFamily() , but , if I'm not wrong, that would set the font family only and hence the valid arguments to the method would be family names like "Serif", "SansSerif", "Monospaced", "Dialog", and "DialogInput", and not a facename like "Courier".
    2) Also because I cannot use a java.awt.Font object for JTextPane, I cannot use a cache for fonts so that I can share a Font object across multiple JTextPanes. Any ideas?
    Regards
    Nikhil.

I am not sure how to answer this because you do not
make it clear why you cannot use a
java.awt.Font.The reason for this is that if I invoke method setFont (java.awt.Font) on a JTextPane , it has no effect.
The only way I could find for setting a font in JTextPane is to use StyleConstants.setFontFamily() which
takes a font family name as a string. As a result , if I have multiple JTextPanes with the same font,
I'm not sure if internally some sort of caching would be used by the java runtime.
If only I could use setFont(java.awt.Font) ona JTextPane, I could have cached java.awt.Font objects
and supplied the same Font object in setFont(java.awt.Font) method of all the JTextPanes that have
    text with identical fonts.
    If you define a
    java.awt.Font in a high-level class, and pass
it to many JTextPanes it will only be cached once,
because of oblique passing-by-reference used by the
    JVM.

  • Using font folder in the Library folder OSX10.2.8?

Hi. I've checked postings and searched the database but couldn't find anything. This may be a dumb question. I work on OSX 10.2.8 Jaguar with OS9.22 (Classic). For Classic apps I use ATM Deluxe for font management. I don't have a font management program for OSX. Is it possible to drop the same fonts into the Fonts folder in the Library folder that are also loaded into ATM so that I can access them from both OSX and Classic? Thanks.
    Cathy

If you want both OS X and Classic apps to see the same fonts, you place them in OS 9's /System Folder/Fonts/ folder. This is a big hassle though (as you likely already know) since you can't put subfolders of fonts in that folder. Meaning everything has to be tossed in loose, including Type 1 PostScript fonts. Deactivating them is harder. You can just drag the fonts back out, but once placed in its Fonts folder, Classic will not release fonts until you shut it down, even though they're not in the the Fonts folder any more.
You current best bet at a replacement font manager is Master Juggler. It can open and close fonts simultaneously for OS X and 9 (Classic). Suitcase X and X1 did this, but the newest release, Fusion, does not.

  • Fonts Folder Deleted! Can't see anything!

My fonts folder was deleted from my Mac hard drive. I've since put it back, but there are still no fonts anywhere on my computer! I can't access anything without the fonts! Ah!
There was a folder called "fonts disabled" and another called "fonts"
I managed to deleted the fonts disabled folder and restarted my computer (By force quiting, which is the only way) and still nothing.
I also put in my install dvd to try and reinstall everything, and the re-install failed. Ah!
Any help would be greatly appreciated,

My clicking random folders, I've found a "font disabled" folder and a "fonts" folder. I deleted the fonts disabled folder but nothing. I've also trying inserting my install dvd and re-install everything, but the system tells my the installation failed.

  • Document fonts folder missing within InDesign package?

Help - when I attempt to preflight my document, the document fonts folder is missing entirely.  This is quite strange as it seems to just happen out of nowhere.  I have packaged documents each day up until today with out any issues.  So essentially the final package will contain the indd file, txt file, and links folder.  The document fonts folder is missing.... Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Preflight and package are different operations entirely.
Assuming that you mean "package" (that's what would create the links and fonts folders), there's a checkbox in the window where you choose where you want your package to be saved: "Copy Fonts (Except CJK)". If that box is unchecked, then no Document Fonts folder will be created.

  • InDesign CC is not recognizing the fonts in my Document fonts folder?

Does anyone have a solution to this? I have the indd file in the same folder as the document fonts folder.
    Thanks!!

    Document Fonts
All of these were sent to me in a zip file, in opening the zip i do get an encyption error regarding the Document Fonts.
Should the Documents Fonts be in the folder with the acutal indd file or in the folder called fonts within InDesign or is it something else?

  • Document Fonts folder missing

Hi. When I package a document the Links Folder is there, but the Document Fonts folder is not. In the Package>> Font summary, ID says 15 fonts used, none missing or modified, but it doesn't list anything. I need to work on the document on another computer that doesn't have these fonts installed. Any help greatly appreciated.

I'm still navigating my way in OSX, so i used Fontbook to install them. Admittedly, they are from a Linotype suite that originally I used on PC which only offers True Type or Post Script. The Post Script seems to install but doesn't show up.

  • All PostScript fonts corrupt after InDesign Packaging

One of my design partners who is using ID CS4 on Snow Leopard packages files she works on for me and gives them to me. EVERY time, all PostScript fonts are packages as zero bytes. OpenType or TrueType fonts will come through fine.
This has been on ongoing problem and a huge headache. The issue is not religated to sending files to me. Printers and other collaborator receive these packaged fonts in the same corrupt condition.
I have seen other mention this here before, but never have I seen anyone resolve this issue. I may have even posted about it last year. Is there anyone who has any insight about this problem?
I have attached an image showing the font directory of the most recent package for reference. You can see the PS fonts aren't even recognized as fonts, while the OT are.

If you're connected to a server trying to package a InDesign file. You might make sure you're connect via: smb,,,, and not afp, I've seen that do some funky things to fonts.
That is a really good idea.
Also, you could use TransType Pro to try and convert or format the font differently.
That idea is as bad as your last one was good.
I wonder how H&FJ feel about Gotham being "converted" to another format. Hey, why don't you contact them and ask 'em if your EULA permits conversion to other font formats?
So, one more tidbit. If the fonts are zipped straight, using OSX's zip feature and then emailed. they are also fried. So, that one fact, seems to pioint to the OS's handling of PostScript fonts either as an OS or the zip feature or some specific setting on my colleague's computer.
You must mean "if the fonts are zipped ... straight AFTER packaging ... they are also fried." You mean that, right?
Try having your colleague just package, and then look in the Fonts folder BEFORE you do anything - before zipping, moving to flash drive, et cetera. If they are zero K at that point, then go look at the fonts out in the OS, from wherever they're being collected. If your colleague has only one copy of the Gotham set on the HD and, post package, the packaged fonts are zero K, then you've pretty much proved that InDesign is frying the fonts. At that point, you're looking at solutions like resetting preferences, reinstalling, stuff like that.
I still think that it's more likely that something else is going on. E.g. one set of fully functional T1s in Applications/InDesign/Fonts, another set of fried 0K fonts in /Library/Fonts, InDesign is rendering the doc using the real fonts in /InDesign/Fonts but grabbing the 0K fried fonts out of /Library/Fonts for packaging.
    Yeah it's farfetched, I know.

  • Packaged file contains empty font folder

My printer called to tell me that the font folder in the packaged file is empty. When I check the report created in the packaging process, 23 fonts (Open Type) are listed. Why won't they appear in the Fonts folder once packaging is complete?

It would be good to try a couple of troubleshooting techniques.
If it only happens to that one file, there may be corruption in the InDesign file. Save as IDML and reopen in InDesign, then repeat the packaging process.
There could also be corruption in your InDesign preferences. You can restore them with this method:

  • How do I link a font from an existing Indesign document to a font on my computer?

I'm new to Indesign and have a file from a designer.  I also have the font used.  When a panel appears to link the font, I don't see a clear way to "browse" my PC and find the font needed.  Any help?

there doesn't seem to be a way to upload the font I have on my computer.
Where is the font? I think that what is going on here is that you have the font file on your computer, but you haven't installed it, right? It doesn't appear in the dropdown list that SRiegel circled in yellow?
The font probably has to be installed on your computer. If you're using, um, CS5 or later, you can put it in "Document Fonts" folder that's in in the same place as the InDesign file that needs the font. If you do that, then close and re-open the InDesign file, then InDesign should be able to find the font there.
Otherwise, you need to install it - since you say "PC" I'm guessing you're using Windows, so you should be able to right-click on it and select "Install Font." Once you've done that then it should appear in InDesign's font list, so long as nothing goes wrong.
(There's a lot that can go wrong; InDesign is incredibly picky about fonts.)

  • How to find font in Indesign, which is in Windows Font Folder?

    Hi
I need to use Monotype Sorts font.
This font was not in the Indesign list of fonts.
I bought the font and downloaded it to a file on my hard drive.
    It is called Monotype_sorts.ttf
I then went to Windows Font Folder in Cpanel and installed it.
I then followed advice I found on the web and copied the font to the Adobe/Indesign CS5/ Fonts folder.
However I still can't see the font within Indesign in order to use it.
Any help would be very much appreciated as I need to try and work this out very quickly.
    I'm on Windows Vista.
    Many thanks liz

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
... I then went to Windows Font Folder in Cpanel and installed it.
I then followed advice I found on the web and copied the font to the Adobe/Indesign CS5/ Fonts folder.
That was some bad advice you got there. Indesign is fully able to use all of your installed fonts -- the ones in Windows. Only a very few specialized types of fonts that cannot be installed in Windows need to go into ID's "private" Fonts folder. (And another reason would be you want to keep your Windows system 'clean'.)
The problem may very well be that InDesign now sees two versions of the same font, and refuses to let you select either, just to make things not too complicated. So delete the font in one of your locations.
If that doesn't work either, read this thread on how to reset InDesign's internal font database:

  • Indesign packages no longer recognising fonts

    Hey Guys,
Since the most recent InDesign CS4 update my packaged files have not been recognising the fonts packaged with them,
I've tested this on both four different computers at uni as well as various friends laptops etc and none of them are working.
Any advise on how to fix this problem? It's pretty annoying not being able to actually use my files when I'm not at home!
    Thanks
    Mit

Do you expect InDesign CS4 to read the fonts from the package? That feature does exist in CS5 but it's a bit buggy.
You'll need to install the fonts. Check the license to be sure it's legal.

  • Why are the fonts so small since I upgraded? I have difficulty reading folder names even when I wear my reading glasses.

Why are the fonts so small since I upgraded? I have difficulty reading folder names even when I wear my reading glasses.

    Kirby:
. What version of OS X?
    10.6.8 - latest Snow Leopard.
. How are you determining the size of the Vault?
Using Finder: "Size 5.8 MB on disk".
. What exactly did you do that you describe as "I decided to set up a Vault to back up to the Time Machine external hard drive.".  In general, Time Machine should be on a drive dedicated to it (that is, with nothing else on it).
Oops, right: I meant Time Capsule. Time Machine is backing up to the Time Capsule, but I thought I could also use the Time Capsule as an external hard drive as well as a target for Time Machine. So, this is a non-no?
. How many images show up when you select "Photos" from near the top of the Library tab of the Inspector and filter using the Filter Rule "File Status" with the argument "Referenced"?
    1. Thanks for getting me to learn Aperture's "filtering" (Command-F). Cool.
    2. No images. Aha. So, do this mean all the masters are in the iPhoto library?
    But, using Finder:
iPhoto Library: 18.2 GB 8,014 items
Aperture Library.aplibrary: 20.6 GB 7,945 which would be right: I did some deleting after importing from iPhoto
    Aperture Vault: 5.8 MB

Can you please tell me how to change the overall font size in thunderbird?
I need the folder names to be in larger text, I need the messages list to be in larger text and the text within the emails as well as needing the fonts in all the headers and icons to be larger too as it is all just too small for me.
