Info on Basic/surface material-SAP EHS Management(Product Compliance)

Hi All
I need to correct my understanding on some aspects of Basic material.
1. I assume there is only one way to create the basic material  that is through Basic Material Specialist role.
If any other way please let me know.
2.What is the difference between Basic material and Surface material ?
Both of the above gives details of the chemical properties of the material. My understanding is surface material gives details
of the composition of the coatings(paint) provided on the material, where as basic material gives the chemical composition of the
  material.
For ex : I have Automotive door which is made up of alloy steel and this door is coated with colour red. So the basic material will
give the chemical composition of alloy steel and Surface material will give the details coat(paint) composition.
3. How can a material ( Material master Record ) be assigned both with Basic material and Surface material ?
Basic material is done by creating a Basic/Compliance view but how about Surface material .
4. How is sepcification is different from Basic material/Surface material ?
Thanks & Regrads
Satish

Hi Satish,
1. Regarding the point no 3, my understanding for your reply is that a view similar to basic material view will be created to show that material is being coated. So if material has both
basic material and surface material it will have two views. One view will contain the weight of material (basic data view ) and other view will have weight of paint ( Surface view ).The weight of both would cumulate to 100% and in this case we will not give details of the composition.
- Automotive door (coated)
--> Steel alloy 99,97% ( Basic material data  view)
--> Red paint 0,03%    ( Surface material data view ).
Hope this is wnat  you mean.
No, it is the same view. It is called basic material composition (in Compliance Workbench under "Weight and composition" view), but you would maintain the surfaces there, too.
Regarding the second part of the reply you mean to say that if the surface has to be included in the
BOM, then it has to be assigned to the material which is at the item level level in the BOM.
Assume the assignment is done as before by view creation in Material master or is there
any other way that can be done in BOM itself.
Typically the BOM is the source in EHSM. Then it depends on how the BOM looks like. If you have the paint as a BOM item you would use the 2nd approach. If you have only the coated part and no BOM containing the paint you would go for the first approach.
2. What would be  the view name for Surface material ? Any idea where in IMG for Material master
    we would configure it ?
It's the basic material composition. No different view.
3.  When you say Compliance releated data, is it  Product structure of Compliance data, Compliance check data, Weight and Composition details, Check Compliane details etc.
Yes. Only part of the product structure (composition) is still stored in EH&S specification database.
4. Finally,  how is Business Object  "Compliance Data Object"  is linked to the product compliance specifications ?
If you create basic materials / surfaces via the Basic material Specialist role a CDO AND a specification is created and they are automaticallly linked.
Products and components are typically created by the BOMBOS transfer. In EHSM Product Compliance CDOs and specifications are created during BOMBOS and they are linked.
It is not really possible (in EHSM standard) to link specifications and CDOs manually.

Andreas

  • Supplier /Customer MDS center-SAP EHS Management (Product Compliance)

    Hello All
What is the difference between Supplier  and Customer MDS center .
Functionally we are doing the same activites as mentioned below in both the centers.
1.Create and send material data sheets.
    2. Accept or reject material data sheets.
    3. Tracking the status of MDS
    4. Importing the MDS into the system.
I would like to put my understanding with the scenario mentioned below
Suppose I am working in TIER1 company ( 1st level supplier to the OEM ). TIER 1  company  inturn  have many other suppliers ( TIER2 , 2nd level suppliers to OEM ) who may not interact directly with the OEM. So when I would be interacting with TIER2 for compliance data I would be using
Supplier MDS center and likewise with OEM it would be Customer MDS center.
Please let me know ,  if my understanding is right .
    Cheers
    Satish

    Hi Satish,
    Yes, your understanding is right.
You can imagine the Supplier MDS center as your IMDS inbox and the Customer MDS Center as the outbox.
You will use the Supplier MDS center to see the incoming supplier MDSs or published MDSs.
If you enabled IMDS status upload/download (on IMDS side) you can use the Supplier Center for accepting/rejecting MDSs. And you can import the MDS into EHSM.
From the Customer MDS center you can send or publish your own MDSs.
    Kind regards,
    Andreas

  • Difference between SAP Carbon Impact and SAP EHS - Environment Compliance

I am confused between the functionality offered by SAP Carbon Impact and how different it is from SAP EHS Management - Environment Compliance. I understand that both of them are different technical products from SAP with Carbon Impact being an on-demand solution which was acquired from Clear Standards earlier this year.
However they seem to have an overlap in their functionality. Even the websites seem to talk about addressing similar issues.
[SAP EHS Management - Environment Complaince|http://www12.sap.com/solutions/business-suite/erp/corporate_services/ehs/features-functions/environmental-compliance-software/index.epx]
    [SAP Carbon Impact|http://www12.sap.com/solutions/sustainability/offerings/carbon-impact/index.epx]
Has anyone used both the solutions and can tell what the difference is between the two in terms of their business functionality?

Hi Girish. While these two solutions both help manage environmental emissions, the specific pain points each address are distinctly different. Hopefully I can help explain. <p>
Environmental Compliance (EC) is a solution designed to help manage the heavy regulatory burdens associated with emission related compliance. EC helps you measure and monitor your direct emissions irrespective of medium (i.e. air, water, or solid waste) and manage these emissions against regulatory requirements. As an example, Title V air permits are typically hundreds of pages long and filled with numerous requirements and conditions. In order to meet the demands of the permit, thousands of tasks must be managed throughout the plantu2014be it calibrating a piece of machinery or measuring the sulfur content of fuel oil. EC provides a framework to break the permit down into its respective pieces and establish workflows to ensure compliance by managing the required tasks against the associated emissions. You can also set emission limit alerts in EC to trigger specified actions to help you proactively address your emissions as opposed to a more reactive approach taken after a permit requirement has been broken. EC also helps with the regulatory reporting of your emissions and compliance efforts by enabling you to create templatized versions of commonly required reportsu2014all available at the push of a button, or they can even be automated. <p>
Carbon Impact (CI) also helps you measure and monitor your emissions, but the real focus of this solution is on gathering enterprise-wide greenhouse gas emissions across geographies and scopes. For example, CI allows you to capture your direct emissions (Scope 1), your electricity emissions (Scope 2), and your indirect emissions (Scope 3). Scope 3 emissions are also sometimes referred to as supply chain emissions (both upstream and downstream) and can be the most difficult emissions category to capture when creating your enterpriseu2019s carbon inventory. For example, letu2019s say you own a steel mill. The ore that comes into your plant has an associated upstream greenhouse gas emission arising from the mining process and when you ship your final product there are emissions associated with the transport of your product to your customer. Beyond the plant, employee travel is another type of Scope 3 emission. If your company already runs SAP, you will benefit from CIu2019s integration into our Suite that allows you to quickly access your different sources of emissionsu2014be they Scope 1, 2, or 3. One of the advantages of CIu2019s on demand delivery model is that SAP maintains updated emission factors for various materials and activities from various authoritative sources including the EPA and GHG Protocol; with this prepackaged content you no longer need to do the work of tracking down the correct emission factor and making sure it is up to date. In addition to calculating your enterprise carbon footprint, CI also gives you the tools to evaluate different abatement projects to reduce your overall environmental impact. CI also provides reporting capabilities to help with the voluntary reporting processes associated with, for example, the Global Reporting Initiative or the Carbon Disclosure Project.<p>
Often times a helpful way to understand the difference between the two solutions is to think about how they work together. If you implemented both of them, EC would be the solution that would help you collect direct emissions data and manage the associated regulatory requirements. The EC emission data would then feed into Carbon Impact to represent your direct emissions. Carbon Impact would then gather your remaining emissions as described above to give you your entire emission footprint and then help identify the best way to reduce it.

  • SAP EHS Functional Consultant Role

    Hi All SAP Experts!!!
Seeking help from all of you for enlighten me with inputs for enabling me to take next step as a SAP EHS Functional Consultant Role.
Quick information about myself, I am 43 year young guy, have done my Masters in Chem, Post Graduate Diploma in Safety Health and Environment, Certification in NEBOSH-International General Occupational Health & Safety, Lead Auditor of ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 with 20+ years of industrial experience of implementation of Safety Health and Environmental Management in various industries (Engineering, Oil & Gas, Automobile, Automotive, Chemical, Facility Management & Infrastructure at India, Middle East, South Africa & US) by working and auditing them for respective EHS Standards.
As I have personally used and witnessed usage of many of the EHS related software which were ERP/ SAP based and found them very useful for making an fool-proof arrangement for effective EHS implementation. I did found some of the functional improvements areas during usage of the same i.e. by deploying EHS best practices I have witnessed at other industries directly or through software which will finally benefit the end-user and hence for the society too.
    Following are my queries -
    1. What can be the career path for person like me, who is having EHS functional knowledge & experience but does not have direct SAP implementation related experience and certification?
    2. What are the minimal certification and qualification I will be requiring before switching to SAP Functional Consultant Role?
    3. Who can be some of the best employer for me start this role?
Any other information, suggestions and inputs in this regards are more than welcome.
Thanking you all for the help and guidance you are going to provide.
    Sameer Saxena

    Dear Sameer
your questions are discussed very often in this FORUM. Hi, is such an example, but you will a lot of more similar examples.
    E.g.:
    sap - ehs career guidence
SAP PLM: Career outlook of EHS
    SAP EHS
    EHS- for Oil & Gas
What is the Job Market for SAP EHS in India

    Need Career Advice
    SAP EHS Professional

    Need Suggestions...
SAP niche domains with better future prospects
    To All The SAP Mentors
Looking forward for your valuable suggestions please !!
Future  Scope of SD for an abaper.
    Therefore these are my hints:
Check first: SAP EHS Management for Beginners
Try to understand what SAP is doing (what means which solution exists and which solution is the right one to start with etc.).
To act a functional guy in SAP area you need basic understanding about SAP solutions.
1.) Shortly: there is no SAP certification in place for the SAP EHS solutions.
2.) Career: normally you ned first some basic SAP and SAP EHS training. The SAP training is available nearly worldwide. SAP EHS training is limited. E.g. there seems to be no  good training option available in India (has been discussed as well in this FORUM).
Based on you "starter package" (know how) the "SAP EHS end user" option may be is the best. If you know about legal aspects/regulations etc. then by working on that in a company using SAP EHS solutions you will get closer to "technique" For work in EHS environment you need to have knowledge at least in the area (as called by SAP): product safety, dangerous goods management; as these are the "core" topics to cover in a company handling chemistry. On the top: if you have knowledge in the area of "Label Management" or "Waste" topics then you are in good starting position.
PLease check this FORUM. A lot of more threads can be found easily may be helping you to decide to go on.
    C.B.
PS: please check first any SCN forum; it took me only "10" seconds (Ok less then one minute; but it was very easy)  to generate the list of threads as part of this thread.

  • Screen samples for EHS Management tool

    Hello EHS gurus:
Can someone tell me where I can see some sample screens and steps in the EHS Management tool program?
    Regards,

    Hello
first of all: what do you mean with "EHS Management tool program"?? SAP is not using this term.
SAP uses the term "SAP EHS Management". If you take a look on SAP pages then SAP Management does mean a number of applications which are grouped. Therefore this is not "one" program but many.
    PLease refer to e.g.
    http://www.sap.com/solutions/business-suite/erp/corporate_services/ehs/index.epx#
    http://help.sap.com/content/documentation/sbs/docu_sbs_ehs.htm
    http://www.sap.com/solutions/business-suite/erp/corporate_services/ehs/features-functions/environmental-compliance-software/index.epx
Take a look as an add on SAP pages using the term "sustainibility".
    second:
Sorry: Best options is to prepare a SAP IDES system to get an idea about EHS Management. and the screens etc.
Another option is to get training from SAP. Be aware of the fact that to my knowledge there are not so many SAP locations there you can get training

PPS: please make a survey in this FORUM using the term "Best practise" & EH&S". SAP is providing Best practise Solutions in the area of EHS (refer to SAP marketplace etc.).

  • Benefits & opportunities in SAP EHS

    Dear Group,
I am new to this forum and I have been thinking for the past few months to do SAP EHS for my career growth.
I am a science graduate & have masters degree in Human resource management. I have 5 years of work experience in the EHS industry I am into the construction EPC industry.Currently i am working as a safety manager but now i want to boost up my career & explore some new ventures in the ehs industry with an eye on the global market.
    1. Considering my profile can you give your honest opinion weather this would be the right time for to do the training in SAP EHS?
    2. I was told by one of the training institutes, based in Chennai, that currently there is no SAP Certification Exam for EHS, is this true?
    3. What is the present Job Scenario for SAP EHS freshers in India & abroad, how one can target the global market?
    4. Is online SAP EHS training advisible as i am short of time due to the work challange.
    5. Is thier only SAP EHS or something else & does SAP EHS covers the market requirement.
I am planning to do this SAP for my Career growth (in terms of Money) and for better work opportunities. As I said that I am doing this for Career growth,
Any kind of inputs and suggestions will work for me to take a decision in this field ...Thank you all in advance
    Warm Regards

    [email protected]

    Dear Vinod
any of your question have been still addressed here. Check: SAP EHS Management for Beginners
    Coming back to your questions:
    1. Considering my profile can you give your honest opinion weather this would be the right time for to do the training in SAP EHS? => Currently there is a "hype" with Component Extension for SAP EHS Management;  you will find job opportunities if you just use "google" and other platforms
    2. I was told by one of the training institutes, based in Chennai, that currently there is no SAP Certification Exam for EHS, is this true? => yes: no certificate
    3. What is the present Job Scenario for SAP EHS freshers in India & abroad, how one can target the global market? => refer to answers above; many companies do have locatons in India which deal with SAP (and SAP EHS as well); job opportunities come and go especially in area of EHS
    4. Is online SAP EHS training advisible as i am short of time due to the work challange. => I do not have any experience with the online trainings; based on feedback of the community: training options in India seems to be limited, expensive and sometimes will not help for your career
    5. Is thier only SAP EHS or something else & does SAP EHS covers the market requirement.
For Chemical industry (and related businesses) as well knowledge in SAP GTS is asked for often; Knowledge in the area of SAP BW and similar areas is helpful (topic of "EHS reporting" of any kind)

  • A problem on Sap Solution Manager

    Hi all,
I got a problem with Sap Solution manager and i hope that you will be able to help me…
I’ll try to do my best to be understood in English =)
So, here is my goal :
I want to use SolMan as a workbench for test with eCATT. I made a very simple test with the transaction SECATT : A script for a customer creation by the transaction XD01.
This script works well, so I’ve done the “test configuration”, the “Test data” and the “system data”.
At this point, I don’t have any problem. If I launch the test, it works. (Important point maybe : I work in remote from an environnement dedicated to SolMan toward a production one).
When I try to put this test in SolMan, there appear my problems.
I don’t really know SolMan for the moment, but it seems that I have to begin  by the transaction “SOLAR01” which lead me to the “Business blueprint change”. But I can’t modify anything in it, as the system always tells me the following error : “You cannot change (or There are no) Structure nodes”.
Maybe I’m not going in the good way, but I try every transaction in SolMan, like Configuration, Test plan management or project overview & Administration. I filled all field I could, but it’s not working for the moment.
I just want to know how to get my test in a workbench, in a test plan on SolMan…
    Can you help me ?
    Thx a lot
    R.P.
(P.S : Of course, if you got a step by step document, I would be pleased to receive it ! =))

    Hello Papillon,
What I understand from your contribution: You do not seem to have a problem working with the Test Workbench in general but would like to know how to work with the Test Workbench as integral part of SAP Solution Manager.
The basic idea of SAP Solution Manager is that you have the possibility of doing a process-oriented testing (instead of straight module or functioned-oriented testing with regular Test Workbench functionality).
This is why in SAP Solution Manager you would start of with setting up a project (in transaction SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN), in which you define a <i>process-oriented</i> blueprint structure in the next step (transaction SOLAR01) and attach test cases to your process-oriented structure (in transaction SOLAR02) afterwards.
You will find a guide dedicated to testing topics in SAP Solution Manager here:
    <a href="http://service.sap.com/form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01100035870000538663&_SCENARIO=01100035870000000202&_OBJECT=011000358700000213552006E">http://service.sap.com/form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01100035870000538663&_SCENARIO=01100035870000000202&_OBJECT=011000358700000213552006E</a>
This guide should provide sufficient guidance and walks you through the whole process, explaining why and how you operate the above mentioned transactions and much more.
    Best regards,
    Doreen Baseler

    Dear Satis
because of historic reason in history of SAP there might be the risk to misinterpret your question.  This would be my first answer:
1.) check this document first: SAP EHS Management for Beginners
2.) check may be:SAP Product and REACH Compliance - SAP Library
Some "topics" are dealed with this SAP solution
3e.) years ago a product if TechniData was available called "Compliance for products". Regarding many of the functions therein: these are now mainly available in the above mentioned solution or in the new solution as shown here:

  • Work Flow Management in SAP EHS

    Dear Friends
Are there general requirements of work flow management in SAP EHS. Actually, i dont have much idea on this. Please guide me.
As far as my understanding goes, i know one process where EHS manager/officer can give approval for work permit in PM. Here we might need work flow management.
Are there such cases/scenarios where we need work flow management in EHS. Please let me know.
    Regards
    Vikram Sethi

    Hi,
Work flow managment shall be considered part of Product life cycle Management, the important steps are are: Design, sales & production and service: which may be disaggregated into Product idea, start of production, end of production and discontinuation of product.
In the work flow management, phases involved are product design phase, production phase, sales & transportation, service phase. Each phase has its importance starting from design to reduce waste generation to disposal mode of waste generates from the disappearence of the product.
I hope the above info is useful to good extent and to ahead further.
    regards,

  • Can we integrate SAP PM functional location into sap ehs waste management?

Can we integrate SAP PM functional location into sap ehs waste management?
We have already imported functional location into Incident Management.
The requirement is that we need to somehow integrate either functional location of PM or location of Incident Management
    to EH&S Waste Management module.
Any comments/ideas would be highly appreciated !!

    Hi !
Through this IMG activity you can integrate Waste Management business partner to other objects. What  you have asked should be possible. But default settings provided with this IMG activity are,
You can integrate Business partner to,
    1. Plant
    2. Company Code
    3. Cost Center
    4. Controlling Area
    5. Order
    6. Customer
    7. Vendor
    8. Storage Location
    9. Plant for Storage Location
You can see this in the structure, “EHSWAS_MDINTO”.
    See this IMG activity,
Environment, Health & Safety -> Waste Management -> Master Data -> Basic Settings for Master Data -> Specify Object Types for Integration.
“A waste management business partner can be identical to other objects in the SAP System, for example, a plant, a company code, or a cost center. In the master data for the Waste Management component, you can also assign a waste management business partner the object in the SAP System to which it is identical.
In this IMG activity you specify which object types you can assign to the waste management business partners.
    Standard settings:
Default settings are delivered. You cannot change these settings, but you can add more settings.”

    Hi pavan,
    thanks for the inputs
our requirement for measurement management is to capture the environmental parameters readings only
till we integrate scada  how can we manage entering the measurement readings in to sap  in EH& S module
regarding scada once we integrate can we take them to SAP EHS only
any other components should we have ?
where this is integrated to the data base tables of EH& S module or any thing else  like PM module measuring documents
needs some clarity on this as once we take the readings in to SAP we would be able to make reports , exceptions, alerts etc...
