Insert into .. sql return incorrect value for 2 columns,sometime no value
Hello,
Oracle 10.2.0.3 , sol 10. (recently upgraded from oracle9i & sol8)
sql query is used to populate a table. sometimes it is populating same values for all the records in 2 columns. Sometimes not populating or partially populating 1 other column. other times its running fine.
SQL is not changed at all. When run again , it populates correctly.
any help is highly appreciatied.
--pooja
no ORA errors while execution. Its completing successfully.
and its an intermittent issue. when the SQL is run manually its gives perfect results. Rerunnign the entire process is also fine. Conclusivly, data & SQL has no problem.
its an insert into table <SQL>
SQL contains left outer join.
example:
Expected output:
1 john texas
2 smith MA
3 rob michigan
Actual Output
1 john texas
2 smith texas
3 rob texas

Hi,
I am using xMII v 11.5..I need to insert into SQL database.
In BLS
Step 1:I am using an SQL Query1 it fetches data
Step 2: I am using 4 calculation Action block to calculate the values
Step 3: I am inserting the Calculated values using an SQL Query2
In the links when i evaluate its showing the value but when i check in the SQL Database it has inserted zeros...
I found that the first Query is not returning anything if i have set the Date condition in where clause...

Edited by: sweety_VA on Apr 25, 2011 7:32 AMHi Sweety,
Can you provide some more information?
The script for each of your queries. (looking especially at how you are using single quotes around the Param properties for different data types)
Are you using an Command SQL Query for the insert?
Why are you using the Calculation action block instead of using the Expression Editor for the calculation?

I've run into a strange problem with the table control. Basically, even though I set default cell values for a particular column as numeric, when I try to add items to the list it tries to add them as strings, and returns an error message that it is expecting *char instead of int. Furthermore, when I open the uir file that contains the table in question in 2010, it appears as if the default cell values for that column are still set as strings, even though in 2009 when I open the uir file it shows as numbers. I tried converting the uir to C code, and sure enough the C code indicated that the column still is a string type.
I've gone ahead and made a small project to show the issue. If you open this project in labwindows 2009 and click on the table in the table_bug.uir, and edit default cell values for column 1, you will see that the cell settings have type as numeric and data type as int. When you run the project, however, it will fail with an error message saying that it is looking for a *char. When this same project is loaded into labwindows 2010, clicking on the table in table_bug.uir and edit default cell values (column 1) shows the type as string. When I change this to numeric (and change numeric attribute to int), this runs fine in 2010. I tried simply changing the uir in 2010, and then using it in 2009, but 2009 complains that the uir is from a newer version (understandable). If there is any workaround that would let me continue to use 2009 for the time that would be great.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Alex Corwin

table_bug.zip 324 KBI opened the UIR in 2009 (but I have 2009 SP1) and it still showed that the default value for the first column was a string. I didn't have any problems changing it to a numeric int, and then building and running the project without error.
Here are a few things you can try:
1) Change the default value to a string. OK out of the dialog, re-enter the dialog, and change it back to Numeric int. Resave and see if the problem has gone away.
2) You said you get a ".UIR is from a newer version" error when opening the 2010 UIR in 2009. Does the UIR still open if you click okay? Often times this will work just fine. Assuming you don't have any problems with this, make a minor change to the UIR in 2009, such as moving the table to the left, and then back to the right and then re-save. See if your program works now.

How to insert into SQL server table form oracle forms
I created a form with oracle as my database. But there one trigger where I need to insert the data into a sql server table.
Is this possible. If so can any help me out.
Thanks in advance.
AshaHi,
You can insert into sql server database using the following steps
Note: Check wether you are using Forms 32 bit drivers. If not the Odbc data source will not work.
step 1: Create ODBC data source for SQL server(one time creation);
step 2: Logout from Oracle and login to SQL server giving the user name,password and host string as odbc:<odbc datasource name>;
step 3: use EXEC SQL statement to insert the values into the SQL server and then logout and login again to your oracle database.
Second Method.
Check the sql server documentation to insert the values using command line parameters. Then you can call the host command to execute this.
Third Method.
Write a VB exe to enter the values in the sql server making two connections one to oracle another to SQL server and then getting values from Oracle and putting in the SQL server database. You can call this exe using the Host command.
Hope this will help You.

Edited by: user8612301 on Mar 15, 2013 7:09 AMHi,
Remember the error says "default value". What is your code to set the default value?
I've seen this error before where it was simply a statement like
column = "text123456789012345678901234567890";where the identifier error was given because it should have been
column = 'text123456789012345678901234567890';Since the string doesn't begin with an apostrophe, the parse thinks it's a LONG identifier. Hence, error!

RE:ora-28500 when trying to insert into SQL Server table
Hi all!
I'm getting this when i attempt to insert into my table test in a SQL Server database. As u can see from the select, the database link seems ok. Any ideas plz. Thnx..
SQL> select "idAges" from test@try2;
no rows selected
SQL> insert into test@try2 ("idAges","nARAges","nAPAges") values(10,'','');
insert into test@try2 ("idAges","nARAges","nAPAges") values(10,'','')
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message:
[Generic Connectivity Using ODBC][Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL
Server]Cannot insert explicit value for identity column in table 'test' when
IDENTITY_INSERT is set to OFF. (SQL State: 23000; SQL Code: 544)
ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from TRY2IDENTITY_INSERT on works only for particular session and for one table. It's not global variable.
The only idea what I have is to create link from MS Sql to Oracle (right now You have oracle ->ms sql)and then before insert You will set identity_insert on and will run insert. -
Import and default values for columns
Hi guys
I have a table in which there are default values for some columns. I take export of this table.
I go to another database where this table structure is already there (but default values are not set). I run the import of table with ignore=Y. It does all...import the data...create the indexes and all...but doesn't set the default values for the columns.
Shouldn't it do that also ? ignore=Y means that ignore the object creation errors and proceed with the rest of the stuff ? Or there is some problem in my understanding ?
Version 10gR2 on AIX 5.3 and using traditional export/import.
Thanks

Insert into table returning primary key (auto number) in resultset
Hi,
I'm connecting to Oracle 10g via JDBC (ojdbc14.jar).
My SQL statement is as follows:
INSERT into Student (studentName, phone, email, address) values ('Jason', '12345678', 'test', 'test');
SELECT Student_studentId_SEQ.NEXTVAL FROM DUAL;
Fyi -The Student table has a trigger to support the generation of a primary key (integer) based on a sequence when a new record is inserted.
What the above will do (from the Java app point of view) is to create a Student record and automatically select the student ID so that the student ID can be accessed via the resultset in Java.
I'm getting error "ORA-00911: invalid character". Can you please help?
Regards,
Jason
Edited by: user10394130 on Oct 13, 2008 2:40 AMYes, I'm referring to the studentId, which is generated via the Student table trigger on insert of a new record.
I've now verified that the following SQL works and it is "printing" the correct studentId.
DECLARE seqNbr_studentId NUMBER(12) := 0;
BEGIN
INSERT into Student (studentName, phone, email, address) values ('Jason', '12345678', 'test', 'test')
RETURNING studentId INTO seqNbr_studentId;
dbms_output.put_line(seqNbr_studentId);
END;
--> This prints the correct value of seqNbr_studentId that has been generated by the trigger. This is good.
However, I would like the studentId to be in a resultset (so that I can access this via Java Resultset.getInt(1) ), for example:
DECLARE seqNbr_studentId NUMBER(12) := 0;
BEGIN
INSERT into Student (studentName, phone, email, address) values ('Jason', '12345678', 'test', 'test')
RETURNING studentId INTO seqNbr_studentId;
SELECT seqNbr_studentId FROM DUMMYTABLE;
END;
Is this possible?
What I'm trying to do is to achieve the effect in SQL Server where I can simply do an SQL command "SELECT @@IDENTITY" where it returns the auto number from the newly inserted record.
Regards,
Jason

Returning Different Results for the Same Search Value
I'm creating a word list and I'm using Lookup to find text entries in column D and return values from column A. I can manage one result based on the search criteria however I'm wondering if it's possible to return multiple entries from column A if multiple matches are found in column D:
As you can see I'm trying to use the formula =LOOKUP("Aggression",D,A) to find all the instances of "Aggression" in column D and return all the corresponding results from column A (audacious, barefaced, and depredation). Lookup however only returns the last match (depredation).I wish you'd shown where your LOOKUP function is located and what you're trying to do with it. Are you going to be using these results in another function? Or are you simply wanting to display the results of your search?
If the latter, there's an elegant way to make this happen. Let's create a single-cell table on the same page, holding the word you're searching for. (Ideally, this could be a drop-down list -- and that can be made to dynamicly hold all the discrete values in column D -- but that's another discussion.) Let's call this table "Search".
Add a column (which can be hidden) to your original table. Let's insert this next to your column D, making it column E. Cell E2 contains =IF($D2=Search :: $A$1,TRUE,FALSE). Drag/copy that down the column. You'll now have a value of TRUE in this column for all the words you're looking for. Now click on the top of this column E and click "Show More Options".... and click on "Show rows that match the following". Set it to show where Column E is true. You now show only the words in which the "category" matches the search word.
Change the word in your Search table, and the display of your original table automatically adjusts.
The nice part is that the entire line is displayed so you can see definitions and contexts as well.

I was wondering if it was possible to show data from a select statement into an AS column, e.g. SELECT col.a AS col.b.
