Inserting images in OS independant way

Hi All,
I have a report which has few bmp files on boilerplates. The development(9iDS-902 R2) goes on in Win2K machines. While inserting images from local disks, the reports builder requires the path of the file to be present. The final deployment of the report is supposed to be done on a linux based installation (10g AS). Obviously the path is not going to help me.
I'm looking for ways by which I can attach the image without dependancy on the path (something similar to how we attach a library in forms). Please suggest.
The report is supposed to be launched from a form (using run_report_object) running on the same machine. The report server is running as external server.
Thanks and regards,
Kinjal Sonpal

I am having the same problem, the development is done in windows environment and deployed to unix server. The image path is pulled from the database, but how do I avoid getting a REP-0108 file not found when the procedure brings back the unix path. Is there a way for the package or reports to tell which OS is running and use the relevant path stle \folder\folder\ or c:\folder\

    In gmail I enabled insert images. I can now copy/paste an image....but not a screen capture. I'm using the same process to capture the screen shot and paste as I do in Word. It works on one computer...but not another.

    Move the cursor to the very top of the screen, maybe push up a bit. The main menubar should then appear. All the way to the right should be a bright blue icon - click it, and the Safari window should revert to 'normal' size.
    Pressing Command-Control-F should accomplish the same thing.
    Once it is back to normal size, click and hold on the top portion of the Safari window and drag to left or right to place it where you want it to be. Once you leave it there, the next time you open Safari it should open its window in normal size at that place.
    If you need to re-size the window a bit, you can click-and-hold on the bottom-right corner of the window and drag to resize it.

  • Insert Link and Insert Image broken in Chrome

    The Insert Link and Insert Image buttons have been broken in my Chrome for at least the last couple of days (latest version, 32.0.1700.72 m, Windows 7 64).
    When you click one of the buttons, the overlay window appears with a title, but it is otherwise black with no contents.  (See screenshot below.)
    The buttons work fine in Firefox.  What hasn't helped: deleting cookies, clearing the browser cache, waiting for several minutes for their content to appear.

    The fact is the customer is no longer the prime concern. Most companies don't give a Rats behind (toned down to prevent censors action) about the customers. It's the almighty dollar. Screw as many customers as they can while they can and line their pockets with all the green backs  as they can while they can. Then if the cusomers leave so be they take their money and run.
    Customer use to have power, they would speak loud and frequently and get things  fixed. And what with people from other countries now owning US companies, That were brought up with different moral compasses. They have no concept of this thing of loyalty to customers. The customer can jump off a cliff and they will simply cheer them on while the do so.
    We have lost, the fight can't be won. It no use. So Pat and others are right.
    I've been trying for 15 years for adobe to fix the issue of having multiple Pdfs created from Office documents because the claim they can't figure out how MS does Page and section breaks. And the issue of Weblinks not being active when converted to PDF's Both on Mac's yet on PC's there is no issue. I quite this year after I received a down right nasty not from Adobe say they didn't have any interest in fixing the bugs and were not about to try. What it amounted was go take a flying leap.
    They have the ability. They have beenblaming Its apple because they don't do such and such , or Microsoft because they don't do so and such. On the Links issue Saying MS doesn't provided the necessary hooks in the mac version of Office. They do you can take a Word document created on a Mac and open a PC and create a PDF and the links will be active. You can Open a Word Document in Apple's pages and all links created in Office document will be there.  The argument has been proven several different ways to be a an outright bald-faced lie. The defect is squarely with the Mac version of Acrobat.
    So Pat and others are right. Just throw in that towel. Adobe support of its customers is now 10 times worse than intuit's which is supposed have the lowest reputation of any software compny that ever existed.

  • Problem in insert image function

    Hi there...I'm brand, spanking new to Dreamweaver CS3, and I
    just started working through tutorials to try to learn the
    software. I'm having a little issue with something that is problem
    very easily fixable to the gurus here.
    When I tell Dreamweaver to "insert image" through the Common
    Bar, it takes me straight to the accessibility dialog. When I click
    OK, it then puts a small box with no image on the page. I then have
    to double click the box to tell it what image to place into the
    image holder. This doesn't seem correct to me as I'm duplicating
    steps. It's becoming annoying when I'm working with several images.
    The tutorial I'm using shows another dialog box asking for the
    image BEFORE the accessibility dialog box. It's not working this
    way for me.
    Can you help?
    Thanks!
    Kym

    This is definitely an odd issue. Have you tried installing
    any extensions to DW? If so, uninstall them and see if the function
    works.
    If not try just try inserting an image by clicking the
    drop-down arrow next to the insert image button and then click to
    insert an image and see if it takes you to the right screen.
    If that doesn't work you may need to try re-installing the
    program. I would suggest some other OS specific things you can do
    such as trashing the preferences file from the Mac OSX library, but
    I don't know what OS you are using so it wouldn't help to tell you
    these steps as at this point it might just be more beneficial to do
    a re-install.

  • Inserting images in Crystal Reports

    Hello,
    I have two questions regarding the use of pictures in a Crystal report :
    1. Is there a maximum dpi resolution limit for pictures to be inserted in a Crystal Reports.
    2. Is there a way to control the PDF output picture quality ? When exporting to PDF, the quality of the picture is reduced.
    Thank you
    Anthony

    I have the following questions about inserting images into Crystal Reports:
    1.  Can the images be positioned horizontally?
    2. When there is more that one image attached to a database record, can the number of images be limited in the report?
      (For example, limit the number of images for each record to two.)
    3. If there is more than one page to a record, how can the image for the record be suppressed on all pages subsequent to the first page of the report?
    4.  If there is no image attached to the database record, how the space reserved for the image closed up?
    Thank you.

  • Inserting images in reports

    Hi,
    I am trying to dynamically insert icons in my template. The icon paths are provided by the XML data definition via the <?Item_icon> field.
    It doesn’t work if I write a syntax like:
    <fo:external-graphic src="url(Item_icon)" />
    However, the syntax works if I do not use fields:
    <fo:external-graphic src="url('D:\icon1.gif')" />
    Is there a way to dynamically insert images in my report?
    Thank you
    Magda

    The image works if I use $OA_MEDIA or a public URL. I cannot have signature files sitting in a public directory or a public URL.
    How do you secure your signatures? The images have to sit on the server in a non-public directory but be accessible to the XML publisher process. What can I do to enable this access?

  • Inserting image in richtexteditor and text

    HI all,
       I am new to Flex 3. I was creating AIR application. I want to insert image in to richtexteditor and text control. I tried adding <img> tag to html source and added htmlText to richtexteditor and text control, but its not considering img tag.
       So is there way I can include image(animated GIF) in to richtexteditor and text control?
    Thanks,

    create a default base block on the table with the BLOB.
    Change the BLOB item to an image item.
    Use the read_image_file built in to load images to the image item. (see online help).
    That should do it.

    I have to insert image in to the database. My image is there in swing object Image. Is there any way to insert that image in to the database.
    Any body having knowledge on this, Please help.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Roja.

    Hi
    Take a look to this code I found surfing, it creates an image from url then resize it and return it as byte array that you can use to set a blob in the database:
    public static byte [] resizeImage(URL url,int widthConstraint,int heightConstraint) throws ImageFormatException, IOException
         ImageIcon imageIcon = new ImageIcon(url);
         Image img = imageIcon.getImage();
         int imgWidth = imageIcon.getIconWidth();
         int imgHeight = imageIcon.getIconHeight();
         ImageIcon adjustedImg=null;
         if ( imgWidth>0 && imgHeight>0)//imgWidth > widthConstraint | imgHeight >  heightConstraint )
         if ( imgWidth > imgHeight )
           // Create a resizing ratio.
           double ratio = (double) imgWidth / (double)
            widthConstraint;
           int newHeight = (int) ( (double) imgHeight / ratio );
           // use Image.getScaledInstance( w, h,
           // constant), where constant is a constant
           // pulled from the Image class indicating how
           // process the image; smooth image, fast
           // processing, etc.
           adjustedImg = new ImageIcon(
            imageIcon.getImage().getScaledInstance(
              widthConstraint, newHeight,
              Image.SCALE_SMOOTH )
         else
           // Create a resizing ratio.
           double ratio = (double) imgHeight / (double)
            heightConstraint;
           int newWidth = (int) ( (double) imgWidth / ratio );
           adjustedImg = new ImageIcon(
           imageIcon.getImage().getScaledInstance( newWidth,
              heightConstraint, Image.SCALE_SMOOTH )
         int resizeWidth = adjustedImg.getIconWidth();
         int resizeHeight = adjustedImg.getIconHeight();
         Panel p = new Panel();
         BufferedImage bi = new BufferedImage(resizeWidth, resizeHeight,
         BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
         Graphics2D big = bi.createGraphics();
         big.drawImage(adjustedImg.getImage(), 0, 0, p);
         ByteArrayOutputStream os = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
         JPEGImageEncoder encoder = JPEGCodec.createJPEGEncoder(os);
         encoder.encode(bi);
         byte[] byteArray = os.toByteArray();
         return byteArray;

  • Inserting image in rtf doc

    Hi all,
    i am trying to make my own rtf editor , I've read the most of the toppics in this forum on this issue,
    but I'm stucked on inserting the hex Data into the document.
    Do I actually need to override ImageView?
    I found a method in RTFReader (instantiated from read(InputStream in,...)) handleBinaryBlob(byte[] data).
    RTFReader is private, so I cannot override this method. Should I override the read method in
    RTFEditorKit and then call the read method in DefaultEditorKit, or I could just use the doc.insertString(...) with the binary data inside of the overriden RTFEditorKit read method? I will lose the functionallity of the RTFParser this way.
    I know I should override read and write methods but how?
    So could somebody help me on this?
    The code for creating the binary data from buffered image and creating the Icon from StanislavL follows:
    ImageIcon icon=(ImageIcon)StyleConstants.getIcon(attr);
    if (icon!=null) {
    int w=StyleConstants.getIcon(attr).getIconWidth();
    int h=StyleConstants.getIcon(attr).getIconHeight();
    ByteArrayOutputStream os=new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    PNGCodec p=new PNGCodec();
    ImageEncoder pe=p.createImageEncoder("PNG",os,null);
    BufferedImage bi=new BufferedImage(w,h,BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
    bi.getGraphics().drawImage(icon.getImage(),0,0,null);
    pe.encode(bi);
    byte[] ba=os.toByteArray();
    int len=ba.length,i;
    StringBuffer sb=new StringBuffer(len*2);
    for (i=0;i<len;i++) {
    String sByte=Integer.toHexString((int)ba & 0xFF);
    if (sByte.length()<2)
    sb.append('0'+sByte);
    else
    sb.append(sByte);
    String s=sb.toString();
    out.write("{\\pict\\pngblip ");
    out.write(s);
    out.write("}");
    extracting image
    String content; //<- image representation
    int len=content.length();
    //converts to binary representation
    byte[] buf=new byte[len/2];
    for (int j=0; j<len/2 ;j++) {
    String c1=content.substring(j*2,j*2+1);
    String c2=content.substring(j*2+1,j*2+2);
    byte b1=Byte.parseByte(c1,16);
    byte b2=Byte.parseByte(c2,16);
    buf[j]=(byte)(b1*16+b2);
    //creates image from binary
    Image img = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createImage(buf);
    ImageIcon icon=new ImageIcon();
    icon.setImage(img);
    if ((icon.getIconHeight()<0) || (icon.getIconWidth()<0))
    return;
    MutableAttributeSet attr=new SimpleAttributeSet();
    StyleConstants.setIcon(attr,icon);
    //inserts image in the document
    document.insertString(currentOffset," ",attr);
    currentOffset++;
    I guess these two functions must be implied into the overriden EditKit write and read methods.
    Could somebody give me a start idea?
    regards
    rumpi

    Thanks for reply.
    It did't helped me a lot or I'dont really understand your idea.
    What you say in your postings is build my own reader and writer.
    For example to open a rtf file in my jeditorpane I must read from
    the input stream each byte and reimplementing AbstractFilter, RTFParser and RTFReader
    I could get all headers like \par or \pic and then rtfDoc.insertString(pos, "the label content", attr) with the attributes extracted from header.
    When that is the only way I am asking myself what are the swing people for?!?!
    I'll try to do that myself, so I'm not asking for code but I would appreciate
    some detailed info about it. For example when I dont use RTFReader anymore
    I loose everything what I've got untill now. So I should read every byte opening a file
    and check like in RTFParser if the first character is "\", then the next couple of bytes
    untill I get the header. Then I should check which labels(text) is this header for(until the next header), so
    I could insert a string with the according attribute set? For Icon when I get the
    \pic header I read the byte sequence and build the picture just like you wrote.
    My Editor is an applet so I've hoped I wouldn't send too much code to the client
    so reimplementing RTFParser, Reader... would slow it down, but whatever.
    Thats really a lot of work only because the given classes are not extendable, grrrr.
    Viravan, thanks for the fast reply , but like I said , I 've already read all relevant
    postings in this forum and didnt found something really helpful. I already read all
    tutorials and articles from sun about this issue and I still have the feeling I'm a freshman
    in this area.
    I'm still angry with the swing team about it, this bug is noted since 2001 I think. grrr

  • Correct workflow when inserting images into text, InDesign CS4

    Hi,
    I am new to InDesign and I have a problem regarding a really basic thing and I would be very grateful for help.
    I am writing an article which is about 10 pages long. It consists mostly of text. I have finished writing and now I want to add some illustrations with descriptions. I've already figured out it's best to insert images into the text frame so they behave as "anchored objects" and they move together with text when I add or delete something on previous pages. Now I would like to place TWO OR MORE images, one next to each other, in a line. This is a bit tricky but I created an object style with Position: Custom in "Anchored object options" and it works more or less fine. This works great but now it would be hard to add descriptions to these images that would still be anchored.
    So I created something different. I made an empty rectangle frame, a small text frame under it and grouped them. Then I placed it in my master text frame and basically did the same thing as for previously described images. Now I place the newly loaded image in the empty rectangular frame and add text in the empty text frame. BUT now I have problems with frame size for different-size images.
    What if I have a REALLY LONG article and want to add LOTS of images with decriptions that would be anchored in the text so I can edit previous pages? I can do this my way, but it's extremely uncomfortable and takes ages. Is there any comfortable, non-destructive workflow for doing such things?
    Sorry for my English.

    Hi,
    I would recommend following steps:
    Place one or more images
    Don't anchor them yet.
    Arange them (the images) relatively to each other, add a text frame and arrange them correct relatively to the images.
    Group images and text
    Copy (or cut) them into the clippboard
    Set the curser into the text where it should flow
    Paste it
    Adjust the anchored object (the group)
    You need to group several objects to anchor them together as one anchor.
    Further recommendation:
    For the images I would specify an object style for fitting, stroke, corner optione.
    For text frames I would specify an object style for text object options, like text offset, and used paragraph style, no boarder, etc.
    For the group I would spcify an object style which leaves above mentioned settings undefined (option field is grea or has a dash). But the anchored position of the whole group and text wrapping should be specified.

    I wish there was a way to do it just as I did with the things i mentioned above.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    hi guillermo,
    than put your image in the dest-->images folder and use the following coding:
    public static String getImageUrl(IPortalComponentRequest request, String imageName) {
      StringBuffer buffer = new StringBuffer(1024);
      HttpServletRequest httpRequest = request.getServletRequest();
      String protocoll = (httpRequest.isSecure())? "https" : "http";
      buffer.append(protocoll)
        .append("://")
        .append(httpRequest.getServerName())
        .append(httpRequest.getServerPort())
        .append(request.getWebResourcePath())
        .append("/images/")
        .append(imageName);
      return buffer.toString();

  • Insert Image file from java to ms access database

    Are there any ways to insert image file or any files into microsoft access database and retrieve the file from the database. Guild will be helpful.Thank you.
    regards
    Singaravelan

    The right answer? Don't do it. You should not be putting images in any database.
    Better to write the image to the server's file system and add the path/link to the database instead.

    Hello,
    There is 2 ways to insert an image:
    1. You can select the picture icon on the tool bar
    and then the foolowing screen will allow you to upload your picture from your computer:
    2. You can also drug and drop the image directly from your computer to the text, this is the way I use.
    Hope it is helpful,
