INSTALATION ORACLE DESIGNER

Hi,
I'am a student from the netherlands and i want to install the oracle designer because
i need it for skool. We have to design a database.
I've download the complete program from this website and installed it completely.
When i start up the designer program i have to give a username, password and a connect string.
I've read the help file but i couldn't find a answer.
Can anybody help me installing Oracle designer 9i???
Thank you in advance
Greetings,
Harm Lourenssen
(sorry voor my bad englisch)

Harm -
Designer is asking for a username, password, and connect string because you need to connect to a database. If you haven't installed a database, the installation guide is here:
http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/oracle9i/doc_library/release2/A95493-01/html/toc.htm
Start with that. Then you can use the following forum for Oracle9i Designer questions:
http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jsp?id=369108&pgm=otn
Hope this helps,
Lynn

Hi.
I am trying to install Oracle Designer/SCM Release 9.0.2.6 patch. I've already installed Oracle 9i Forms and Reports 9.0.2.1.0 (patch 2705870) and 9.0.2.3.0 (patch 3129219). Jim,
Sorry for taking so long before replying to your question.
It is a problem we have seen before and the solution is quite simple.
* Open the file ODWA_HOME\ddl\cdwp_brw.pkb
* Locate the procedure browser
* Change the following fragment from:
===================================
htp.frame
( csrc =>'cdwp_brw.tree_plus_selector?p_el_id='
to_char(p_el_id)| |
chr(38)
, cname=> 'selector'
============================================
in:
===================================
htp.frame
( csrc =>'cdwp_brw.tree_plus_selector?p_el_id='
to_char(p_el_id)
, cname=> 'selector'
============================================
in other words: remove "| |chr(38)
This shoudl do the trick.
Please let me know whether this helped!
best regards,

• Can't Install Oracle Designer 10g on Windows 7

When I try to install Designer 10g on Windows 7, the installer starts up, it asks me where to install the product, I choolse C:\DevSuiteHome_1. When it asks what to install, I choose "Complete". It then asks for the e-mail server; I leave this field empty and press Next. Then the installer aborts without any error message.

Which Designer 10g? Tell us the full name of the file from which you are installing. Some versions are available on OTN that cannot be installed stand-alone - they are upgrade packs for a previous version. Designer comes as part of the Oracle Developer 10g Suite, and you must install the entire suite. Oracle Reports is particularly important, because this is the tool that Designer's reports use.
Finally, give us your entire sequence of steps, what you did, what you saw on the screen, including error messages.

RNester,
I tried doing as you stated and Logged in as Administrator. I still get the crash of the installer after clicking Next on the SMTP screen. Is there anything else you set/did to make this successful?
Thanks in advance,
Larry

• Installing support for Oracle Designer Objects in an existing repository

Installed Oracle Designer Suite.
It worked.
Then I installed Oracle Data Provider for .NET 9.2.0.2.102..
I got 2 errors during install. One was due to a service (OracleHomeAgent) which I shut down easily.
The other, was more trouble:
Error in writing to file C:\Oracle\Ora92\bin\oci.dll
I could find no more Oracle services to shut down.
Nor did an IISRESET release it .
So I told it to ignore copying that file.
Then it finished.
My web applications which use ODP seem to work fine.
But am I at risk for some error?
Why would OCI.DLL not allow itself to be installed?
Is that a problem?

Most likely, some MS OS services, not Oracle services, are locking your oci.dll. Please refer to the following thread for a workaround.

• Need Help with Oracle Designer Install!

When I attempt to install Oracle designer, it asks me to choose an Oracle Home. I choose "OraHome81" from the drop down menu, but it gives me the following error:
"The location specified: C:\Oracle\Ora81 is already used as an Oracle Home for 'Oracle 815 Production'
It can not be used as an Oracle Home for 'nt' "
PLEASE HELP!!!
my email address is [email protected]

As you would have seen if reading the documentation, this is probably a DB home, in which you cannot/should not install Designer. Type another name in there....
....when you are done reading your install guide.

• How can I install a Designer 6.0 pre-configured repository ?

Hi:
I am trying to install Oracle Designer 6.0 to my client machine (Windows 2000) and server machine (Windows NT 4.0), what I did was:
[1]install Designer 6.0 client side on my client machine.
[2]install Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition (version 8.1.7) on the server machine.
[3]configured SQL*Net Client and NET8 on both client and server, and it works fine.
[4]install pre-configured repository using Oracle Designer 6.0 CD #2 (pre-configured repository),but it always gives me such info:
" You have not installed a local copy of Oracle8 Enterprise Edition, therefore, Oracle Designer and ODD D7O4 Preconfigured Repository can not be installed. Please re-install this product after the local
database has been installed."
It seems strange, I did install 8i Enterprise Edition (I even installed Oracle8 Enterprise Edition) before repository, I should have
a local database.
How should I do next ?

Hi Zhu:
Now that you are trying to install Designer, your problem is easy to solve.
I think you should download Oracle Designer 6i Release 4 for Windows from http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/designer/software_index.htm and then do your install again.
The install and the server side setup maybe time consuming, but I am sure you can do it.
You may install Designer 6i Release 4 in the following steps:
(Before do these, uninstall your Designer 6.0 both from your client machine and Windows 2000 server using Oracle Installer)
Step 0: download Oracle Designer 6i Release 4 from OTN to your local directory, say c:\temp and unzip it to c:\temp\Designer6iR4. I will refer this directory as installation media. Make sure that you have equipped your server machine with at least 256MB memory. In my experience, 386MB is better and 512MB is recommended.
Step 1: make sure that one database was created in your installed Oracle 8i. If not, create a database at this step. The parameters of this database should be adjusted according the needs of Designer 6i. You will be told how to do this later.
Step 2: install Designer 6i R4 from the installation media to server machine. Pay attention at this step that you should "select to install both Designer and Repository." It is recommended that Designer should be installed to another new ORACLE_HOME. Don't install it to your Oracle database home. Say, to the ORACLE_HOME "DESDEV".
Some more words need to be said here, I think, about the ORACLE_HOME for Designer. Later if you install Oracle Developer into the same machine as Designer is installed to, both the Oracle Developer and Oracle Designer should be installed into the same ORACLE_HOME. So the name DESDEV stands for "DESigner and DEVeloper are both installed into the same Oracle home named DESDEV". This will be prompted to you just after the installation of Designer was finished.
Step 3: print out "Oracle Repository/Designer Installation Guideh from "Stat->Programs->Oracle Repository 6i Doc - DESDEV". I will refer this material as gManualh from here till the end of our talk.
Step 4: shutdown your database if it is running and then set the parameters to the correct values (required values) according to gCheck the settings in the Oracle initialization parameter fileh in the Manual, Chapter 2 Server-side installation, migration and upgrade.
Step 5: startup the database and then check the parameters. To do this, you need to login to database as user sys and then issue the command gshow parametersh. If all the parameters are correct you may go step 6. You may leave the database running.
Step 6: make sure that the database is running. If not, startup database here. Before proceed to install Designer 6i Server-side, the database should in running status.
Step 7: do the server-sidefs install of Designer 6i (that is, Repository) according to gChapter 2 Server-side installation, migration and upgradeh in Manual. In that part of manual, 17 steps of installation and setup Designer 6i server-side were mentioned. I am sure you can manage that with ease.
Step 8: install Designer 6i client-side into your client machine according to hChapter 1 Client-side installationh in Manual from the installation media.
By the way, I should tell you how much time it takes to accomplish all of these steps IF things were went smoothly: it took about 6 hours for me to have all these steps done. And my machinefs specifications is:
CPU 633MHz
RAM 512MB
Wish you good luck

• Install oracle 8.1.7 problems

I am trying to install oracle 8.1.7 downloaded from the OTN, i am unable.
I have windows 2000 advance server as OS and my machine has a p4 processor.
But I am able to load oracle 8.1.5 after loading 815, i tried to install Oracle designer 6i and again i am having problems.

I had problems installing 8.1.6 initially, but got it to work. I had to download the latest JRE from sun.com for Pentium 4, which is 1.3.1. Then I had to copy the contents of Oracle 8.1.6 onto my hard drive, search and rename the symcjit.dll that is within the Oracle 8.1.6 directory. Then I clicked on setup and the installation will go out to the JRE1.3.1 directory in order to find the symcjit.dll that it needs. That was the only way that I was able to install Oracle on a P4 box. That worked great.
Then I tried to upgrade to 8.1.7 and though the database seems to work fine, it does show the following error when I log into SQL*:
ORA-06553: PLS-707: unsupported construct or internal error[2603]. Anyone seen this error before?

• Bypass installer system check for Oracle Designer 10gR2

Is there a way to bypass the batch file or edit it that runs prior to the universal installer loading?

I am trying to install Oracle Designer 10gR2 and the setup starts a batch file (see link below for image) that does a system requirement check. This fails on a machine that I need to install Designer. The reason it fails is because the paging file is in a different place than where this batch file is looking. The system meets the requirement it just happens to have the paging file in the wrong place.
My question; is there a way to turn this off with a command line switch or something so the installation will proceed unimpeded?
Here's the link to the image file, please keep in mind that this is an example and not the actual failure message. Please believe me it is the swap file it is failing on.

RME-00223 failed to open new activity.
Anybody would like to help me, please.
Thanks.

Hello,
This is a very old and no longer supported configuration.
Both products have not been available to customers for a
long time.
However I looked at the errors you recieved and it seems
you may have failed to grant some specific rights to the repository owner (used to install the repository).
Try the entering the following SQL and see if this fixes
the problem:
grant execute on dbms_pipe to <repos_owner>;
grant execute on dbms_lock to <repos_owner>;
If not, I'm afraid I'm not sure I can help. I suggest
you contact Support to see if they can find any older
information for your specific versions of Designer.

• Problem logging into Oracle Designer 10G

Hello developers,
I've downloaded and installed Oracle Designer 10G on my computer. I've installed it using the installation wizard. I wanted to login. I have my username and password but not the connect string. I don't know what my connect string is now.
During the installation, I've encountered such a message:
Oracle Designer and Oracle8i client import and export tools need to be installed into different Oracle homes. You can use the LOCAL and TNS_ADMIN registry variables(set under both Oracle Homes in the registry) to save having to maintain multiple copies of your TNSNAMES.ORA file. Please enter any information you wish to be set and click OK to continue."
So under this message, a default entry of "C:\orant\net80\admin" appears whilst for field Local, I've entered "orahome" which I assume to be my database alias.
Later on, I found out about 10G so I removed the copy of 6i I've installed using Universal Installer and proceeded to download and install 10G. Now the error message Im getting when I tried to login without giving a connect string is that "The user does not have an installed Repository. Invoke the Repository Administrator Utility. " So from the start menu, I choose Repository Administration Utility but nothing happened.
Could anyone that have experience with this installation let me know what should I do? Im really looking forward to using 10G Designer.If this is not solved, then I'll resort back to using 6i. Maybe from there things are easier. Thanks in advance.

After some heavy googling the problem is solved.

• Connecting from Oracle designer 2000 Forms 4.5 to 9i

Hi,
a)We have installed Oracle designer 2000 and are able to connect to a 9.0.1.0.0 database.
The Versions we have used are as follows:-
Forms [32 Bit] Version 4.5.7.1.6 (Production)
Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.0.1.0.0 - Production
With the Partitioning option
JServer Release 9.0.1.0.0 - Production
Oracle Toolkit Version 2.3.6.9.0 (Production)
PL/SQL Version 1.2.1.5.0 (Production)
Oracle Procedure Builder V1.5.6.15.3 - Production
Oracle Virtual Graphics System Version 2.1.10.7.0 (Production)
Oracle Tools GUI Utilities Version 1.2.0.10.0 (Production)
Oracle Multimedia Version 2.0.7.9.0 (Production)
Oracle Tools Integration Version 1.2.0.4.0 (Production)
Oracle Tools Common Area Version 2.0.0.9.0
Oracle CORE Version 3.5.2.0.0 - Production
b)We are able to connect from SQL 3.1 to a 9.0.1.0.0 database also.
1)Does Oracle support this configuration?
2)Will my Oracle 4.5 forms builder be able to use all the objects available in the 9.0.1.0.0 database?
3)Is there a possibility that my forms will not run properly because of this configuration?

Strictly speaking we only certify the upgrade from 6i to 9i, however, the technical details of going from 4.5 directly to 9i are the same and in many cases should work as going from 6i to 9i.
