Install leopard on mac with panther

I am running Mac OS X 10.3.9 and would like to install leopard. I have 1GB memory and meet all system requirements. Do I need to do and erase/install, archive/install, or can I just do a normal install?

Hi bmac12;
I used the Upgrade to get both of my Mac to Leopard. I have not had any problems.
To be safe you should backup. I highly recommend that you clone your current system if you can. Hopefully just like me you will not need it but it is so much nicer to have a backup and not need then to need a backup and not have it.

Unfortunately it is not possible to install the program it always displays an error message. how can you loess the problem?
error message: This application can not be run from a network drive-. copy it to a local folder and strarten it again.

I have just the regular version, not Professional.
I mean "les integrated", in the sense that you really run Fusion "in a window". The more "integrated" approach means that Windows applications run as if they were for the Mac, and you do not see the Windows interface at all. I personnaly think tjat is too confusing. There is nothing wrong with it, just a bit more confusing. i like having it clear that Windows is in a seperate Window.

What do you mean ny "less integrated"? Is this must to run Adobe CC in VMWare on Mac?

  • How to install leopard on G5 with Broken DVD drive?

The DVD drive on my Dual 2.7 GHz PowerPC G5 went bad. I have a MacBook Pro running Leopard with a good internal DVD drive. Can I put the leopard install disc in my MacBook Pro then put the Macbook Pro in Target Disc mode, connect it via firewire to my G5 and install Leopard on my G5 that way?

Most Macs equipped with Firewire 400 or 800 are capable of booting into Target Disk Mode (toggle under Sys Prefs-> Startup disk OR hold T when starting the computer).
When plugging a target disk mode running mac into another mac via firewire, the mac's drives (all hard drives and all optical drives - if media is inserted) will show up on the recipient mac. Therefore, use the good computer with good optical drive to put the disc media in, then start it in target disk mode. Finally plug it into the G5 with firewire cable (prefer 800 if your MBP has that). You will then see the drives and DVD, you can even restart the G5 holding down 'C' and it will boot from the CD drive of the other mac (it will try its own first - if available).

  • After installing Leopard my Mac Pro is FUBAR

Installed Leopard 5 days ago. I got the over 8 character issue and worked it out with the instructions on the apple support. Created new login with admin privileges and transferred iTunes, some preferences, etc to new account. Then launched World of Warcraft to play and it worked until there was a patch to download. Downloaded the patch and that is where the trouble started. The patch did not install and their site advised me to run disk utility, which I did. There was an error and I proceeded to fix. Now when I log into the computer I have admin privileges but no access to music, pictures etc. I think think that the disc utility repair did something to my formally repaired login. Now with admin privileges, no access to anything like iTunes, pix, etc. Did I delete? I would say not because the drive is still at the same capacity it was when I started this. I think that my music, etc is still in the mac but I deleted access even from admin users. This is dire... Please help.

    Hi aeson81,

  • Need help installing Leopard. Stuck with Gray Screen with looping circle!!!

I currently have Mac OS X 10.2.1 installed in my G4. Never upgrade since i got it. I purchased Leopard and tried to install it.
After I put the DVD in and clicked Install it restarted my computer. Then it started the installation process. 10 minutes later it stopped and said installation failed. Disk is dirty. I finally got the DVD and and tried again but all i got was the gray screen with the looping circle.
I tried re-installing 10.2.1 then try Leopard again. After asking me to restart my computer nothing happen. No installation process. Just a gray screen with the looping circle for over 10 hours. (left it over night)
What should I do? Can this be fixed? How can I install Leopard??????
    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get out your Jaguar installer disc and boot from it. After the installer loads and you select your language the menu bar should appear. Select Disk Utility from the File menu. After DU loads select your hard drive from the list on the left then click on the First Aid tab. Click on the Repair Disk button. Wait until the repair process is completed. If any errors are reported that have been fixed, re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported and the disk is pronounced OK. If DU is unable to repair the drive, then you will need something like Disk Warrior or TechTool Pro to repair the drive. Once your drive is properly prepared boot from the Leopard installer DVD. When you get to the point of selecting the destination drive click once on your hard drive then click the Options button. Select the Archive and Install option. Do not select the option to preserve the user folder and network preferences as these may be damaged. Click on the OK button and complete the installation. Be sure to use the same username and password that you use now for the admin account.
Your hard drive will not be erased and your old system will be saved in a Previous System Folder located at the root directory of your hard drive. You should then be able to transfer your personal data from the PSF to the newly installed system.
BTW, repairing permissions will not fix your problem.

  • Help Installing Leopard and issues with partition maps.

Hi, i've been trying to install leopard on my MacPro G5 to no avail, as my super-drive had failed, i've tried pulling out the HDD and mounting it via an external enclosure and connecting the mounted HDD to my Intel based mac and installing Leopard from a disc running from my Intel based mac to the mounted HDD from my MacPro.
The problem i've encountered is with the partition maps, OSX installer does not allow me to install Leopard onto the external HDD with Apple Partition Map and insists i re-partition it as GUID which i can't do so as it'll mean i wouldn't be able to boot it from my MacPro G5, thus i'm wondering if anyone have an idea on how to get Leopard installed in such circumstances.
    Thanks!

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
First, let's get the terms straight.
There is a Mac Pro, which is an Intel processor, using EFI and utilizing the GUID partition map.
There is a G5, which is a PPC processor, using Open Firmware and the APM scheme.
There is no Mac Pro G5
A Mac Pro can use an APM mapped drive to boot from, but cannot install an OS to it.
In order to install an OS to a drive while installed in or connected to a Mac Pro, the drive must be formatted using the GUID scheme.
A G5 must use an APM formatted drive to boot.
To install Leopard on a G5, one must use a retail version of Leopard (not a gray disc that shipped with an Intel Mac), boot to the install disc, format the drive and install.

  • Not able to install Logic on mac with OSX.  10.8.2. Error message: Logic Studio.mpkg cannot be opened as the power pc programs are no longer supported. I have logic studio 8 software purchased in 2007 and upgraded with logic studio 9 (purchased in 2009)

After an earlier attempt to move Logic from my other mac (OSX 10.6.8) with the migration assistant to my new mac with OSX 10.8.2. I've re-started the whole start up process by erasing the hard drive from the new machine and build it up from scratch. After a new "out of the box" start, I decided to install LOGIC from my disks : starting with my 2007 package Logic Studio 8 and upgrading with my Logic 9 package from 2009. When trying to start to install 2008 I got the error message : Logic Studio.mpkg cannot be opened as the power pc programs are no longer supported.
What does this mean? HOw do I get this working under 10.8.2 as it works flawlessly under OSX 10.6.8. For sure I didn't buy a new machine to have OSX 10.8.2 but I suspect this is the roadblock to installing my logic package.
    Help!

    Mark,
    Sorry...
I completely lost the thread (I actually got confused between you and another poster on a another forum that was asking the same basic question) and somehow ended up thinking you were trying to install on a PPC Mac
My apologies and please ingnore those parts of my last post relating to the PPC Macs...
You have an Intel Mac and therefore Logic Studio 2 Boxed Upgrade set should install/run on your Mac without issue. As I said earlier.. you do not need to try and install from the original Logic Studio 1 /Logic 8 Boxed set...(It won't work anyhow because you have an Intel Mac and that version had a PPC installer)  but just install from the Logic Studio 2 / Logic Pro 9 Upgrade Boxed setof DVDs instead...
Have you tried the "Make Disk Image" solution I gave earlier? That normnally works under such circumstances as what you are describing can happen when your DVD drive cannot read the DVDs correctly... I have had this situation myself where one drive read them okay and another failed to do so for whatever reason. Making and then installing from Disk images of those exact same disks resolved the issue for me...
You can try to reinstall directly from the DVDs of course though under some circumstances it may not allow you to reinstall Logic Pro itself if that part of the original installation attempt was successful... in which case you can also try this... (It's probably the easiest method if Logic 9 was already installed and present in your Apps Folder)
If the Logic Pro App is in your applications folder..
Run Software Updates to update Logic Pro to a version that will run under 10.8.2 (The initially installed version of Logic will not)
    Run Logic
Go to the menu bar in Logic and select Logic Pro/Install Additional Content and select all content in there..
This content is basically exactly the same as what is stored on the remaining DVDs of the boxed set so you might not need to use the rest of the DVDs to install from but download it all instead from Apple Servers...

  • How to Install Leopard on G4 with no DVD Drive

I have a G4 Quicksilver Dual 1GHZ and the internal optical drive is dead and I need to install OSX Leopard on the Computer
    I also have a MacPro early 2008 Dual 2.8Ghz.
for the life of me I can't figure out a way to install Leopard onto the old G4.
    I have tried the following
    - Connected the G4 to the MacPro in FW Target Mode and installed Leopard via the Mac Pro.. the G4 won't boot from it, I guess Leopard installs only the necessary files to boot the MacPro and not the G4?
    - Tried using the Optical drive from the MacPro conected to the G4 in Target mode, but the G4 doesn't see the install DVD in the MacPRo drive.
    - Tried partitioning the G4 connected to the Mac Pro in Target mode, and did a "restore" of the Leopard DVD to the G4 hard drive.  For some reason, the G4 still won't boot from it!
I'm now at a complete loss of what to do.

Well, some hardware problems won't show up until it heats up enough, or until a certain spot in RAM is needed, or certain multitaskung things are taking place.
One way we used to test CPUs & RAM on macs was to create a huge DMG while pplaying iTunes & running Power Fractal.
Do you have AHT for that G4?
Boot off your Apple Hardware Test Disc , then run the extended Apple Hardware Test. Your model would have a separate AHT CD.
Here's the list and downloads for AHT for some G4 models if you don't find yours, some G4s only have it on the Original Install Disc...

  • Firefox upgrades will not install on my Mac with OSX 10.8.2, I am stuck on Firefox 13

I have a mid 2012 MBP with Retina display. When I try to install Firefox upgrades i Get the message that teh update will not be installed, are you running more than 1 copy of Firefox. This occurs no matter what I try even from a restart. Activity monitor only shows one copy of Firefox running
I reset Firefox to the default and that did not help, I started in safe mode and that did not help.

    Hi mike_bauer
If there is an issue with update or permissions the better, quickest and safest way is to '''download and install''' firefox:
    1. Download a copy of the latest firefox from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
    2. '''''Trash''''' the current Firefox application to do a clean install.
    3. Install the version that you have downloaded.
Do not select to remove your personal data, your profile data is stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder], so you won't lose your bookmarks or other personal data.

Yes, you can run DW CS4 on a Mac G5.
Note that DW CS4 is the last release of Dreamweaver to support PowerPC.

  • "Finder" does not function after installing Leopard on Mac G5

After successfully installing Leopard on my (new) MacBook Pro and on my (old:2003) iMac PowerMac 6,1 I tried installing Leopard on my 2005 iMac G5.
The installation seemed successful, but after restarting the computer I was asked to choose the wireless network from a list. This was not possible. I do not use the Airport on this computer so tried to press "cancel". Could not do this and got the turning rainbow circle which never stopped.
*The Finder does not function and cannot be restarted. This seems to be the main problem.
I cannot log off or shut down and have to use the powerbutton to shut down.
When starting up I do not get the Startup sound. Do get login and can login. But, all my desktop buttons have disappeared and I immediately get a notice that OS X shut down unexpectedly, asking me to cancel or send a report. Neither of these options are possible and the turning rainbow reappears. It's driving me crazy!
I can sometimes open programs but no longer "system preferences".
Is there anybody out there who can help me??
I am especially frustrated since the other two installations on an older and on a newer Mac went well. I use the exact same programs on all three computers.

  • How do I download 9.5 to install on a Mac with a slow Internet connection?

Prior to Mavericks and the latest iLife apps, I was able to download installers from Apple support to install on an eligible Mac that has a slow (and tolled by usage) Internet connection. The new App store downloads and installs in one step such that it only leaves behind the installed app (not the installer image). Suggestions?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Mac App Store applications don't need an installer. In the case of iLife applications, you can just transfer the iPhoto, iMovie or GarageBand application to another Mac by transferring the application from the Applications folder, and you will get the applications updated on your Mac.
If you haven't got another Mac with a fast Internet connection, you can only download the iLife applications with the slow connection

  • Installing Leopard On PC With Mac Install Disk?

I was just wondering if this is even possible, i'm looking to set up a dual-boot with Leopard running along side Vista?
Any one have any suggestions on how to, where to, get Leopard or any versions of Mac OS? I know how to partition my drive, and all that, just getting the ISO Image is my issue.
    PS^^^legal?
    Thanks in advance!

As Jay mentioned, it's illegal. The software license for the Mac OS states that it is to be installed on Apple hardware only.
just getting the ISO Image is my issue.
And that's compounding the illegal aspect. Any .iso image of OS X is going to be a pirated copy. Like any other company that creates software, Apple DOES want to be paid for their work, the same as you do at your job (why do people think all software should be free simply because they can find it without paying for it?).
On top of that, the drivers included with the software is only for Apple hardware. IF you could get it to install at all, it would run VERY badly.
The short answer is, if you want a computer that can dual boot, be legal and buy a Mac.

  • Unable to install Leopard on Mac Pro tower

    Hi all,
I have a Mac Pro w/ 1gb RAM. It installs and runs Tiger just fine but is having problems getting up to Leopard.
When I try to boot to the DVD, it just sits at the grey Apple logo with the spinning icon (not beach ball). I've let it sit for hours and nothing comes up on the screen. No audible noise coming from media drive or the hard drive.
I've tried Target mode which yields the same results. There are no external devices or non standard PCI devices attached to the computer.
I am using a legit Leopard DVD installer and the Mac Pro has been wiped clean using disk utility. I've also reinstalled a clean version of Tiger and tried to upgrade (vs. clean install of Leopard), which also gives me the same results.
If I try to boot to the hard drive, I sometimes get the "purple space" Leopard screen, but all I do is watch the beach ball spin. Whats even more odd is that I never went through the Leopard install so I don't know where that's coming from.
    Help!
    Thanks in advance everyone

    Thanks for the reply.
OK, I get none of those options as I never make it to the setup screens. I would like to do an erase and install, but again when the disk is blank or has a fresh Tiger install, I still don't make it past the Grey Apple icon screen.
I'd even take an Upgrade install at this point, but its not letting me do that either. After I did the erase/install Tiger install, I upgraded to 10.4.11 and popped the drive in. Clicked the installer icon which asks me to reboot, and I start all over with the above problems.
