Install media 2012.08.04 and latest install scripts - the shell

I'm just curious about this: the latest install media uses zsh, the install scripts are bash scripts - the shell you're dropped in after "arch-chroot" is sh (SHELL=/bin/sh chroot "$@")

In the previous version of the install scripts (present in the previous version of the install cd) the chrooted shell was bash, and in Arch "sh" is a symlink to bash (if I understand correctly, calling "bash" as "sh" make bash behave like sh).
So, there's a reason to use sh in the chrooted installation?

Go to www.ecamm.com and d/l PhoneView.
To prevent a sync when plugging in the iPod/iPhone - hold down the 'option' and the 'command' keys when plugging in the iPod/iPhone - key the keys down until the iPod/iPhone is listed under the Devices list in iTunes - this will prevent a sync from taking place.
With PhoneView you can take the content from the device to the iTunes library.

Restore them from the recycle bin if they are there, or your backup, or find an unerase or file recovery tool, or see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device if you have one.

You can still run two Windows 2012R2 Servers on Esxi, just like Gary said. For 10 users, it's really not that big of a deal either way.

SCCM 2012 Machine Policy and Software Update Script - Remote Machine

Apologies if this has been answered before as there are so many good posts on this forum. What I am after is a simple VB script that I can stick on a remote machine and then use PSexec to run the .vbs file.
I need to be able to carry out a Start/Control Panel/Configuration Manager (32 bit)/actions Tab
Machine Policy Retrieval and Evaluation Cycle (Initiate)
Software Updates Deployment Evaluation Cycle (Initiate)
This is on SCCM 2012. Also if the VB Script can come back to say if it has been successful or not would be awesome :)
I would like to type something like:
Psexec \"address of machine" SCCM.VBS (where the sccm.vbs is located on the remote machine)
Then for the vbs to carry out the 2 initiations above on the remote machine and then return with "Initiation Complete" or words to that affect.

After installing mavericks, the iMac will not wake from sleep properly (at all)

I've upgraded to 10.9 (late 2012 21" iMac), and I notice in the morning when the iMac has been sleeping overnight, it will not wake up,
During the day, if it sleeps for a few hours, it seems fine, and wakes normally, prompting me to type my password,
In the morning however, I hit a key (on my wireless keyboard), and the display wakes up, I get a dark grey screen, and see the loading circle (not the beachball) in the middle, and see the cursor for a few seconds, before it then disappears, and reappears.
This cycle repeats itself,
The 'fix' is to do a forced shutdown by holding the powwer button until it shuts down, and then restart.
Anyone else find this problem/find a solution?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

TC oldest and latest backups are same date--won't backup current date

My oldest and latest backups are the same date (21DEC10) --when I enter TC--the only backup I have is for 21DEC--help!

UPDATE: After quite a few attempts, I concluded there is an issue in SL with TM backups to a password protected Airport Disk, so I reverted to using the Airport password.
What was odd during all of this is that when I was using a disk password, I could mount the disk (and the sparse images) from both my iMac and my UMBP, and TM would work from the UMBP but not the iMac. This was despite my deleting the TM plist, restarting, disconnecting the disk from the Airport extreme.
When I reverted back to using the Airport password, I did it from the iMac. TM then worked fine from there, but not the UMBP. It took a combination of restarts, selecting None as the TM disk, and I don't remember what else to get the UMBP backing up again.
So, in my case at least, the Mac that changed the PW type worked fine, the other one either never worked or required hoops to work. Other than that, kind of lost, but I do have it working at least.

Aperture and iPhoto should use the same library

It seems that there is a lot of conversation about moving photos between Aperture and iPhoto. For example, some like iPhotos slideshow better but still require Apertures adjustment options. Still others have tried, to no avail, to use Aperture as iPhoto's external editor.
Personally, I have a large iPhoto library with most photos tagged with keywords. I have just started using Aperture and am yet to decide if its extra features are useful for a novice photographer like myself. Other than the price, I see no reason not to use Aperture instead of iPhoto but I would want to import my entire iPhoto library into Aperture.
My question, however, is why we need to 'import' from one app to the other. Without understanding how the aperture / iphoto databases work, I would assume there is no fundamental reason why Aperture could not simply open an existing iPhoto library and visa versa. They both support RAW, keywords, books etc. And while I am sure there are some deviations in the databases, surely each app could simply ignore the features it does not understand.
Is this something that anyone else has considered or think would be good. I would imagine that the easier it is for customers to upgrade from iPhoto to Aperture the better. Does Apple plan on supporting this in the future or is the import option 'good enough'.

Can I and if so how do I best set up Aperture as main app. (master) with iPhoto as sub app that accesses the same library to sort through, look at, order books, etc.
Simply set the Preferences to 'Share Previews with iLife Applications' in Aperture. Then go to iPhoto -> File -> Show Aperture Library. A media browser will open and you can drag the pics from the Browser to the iPhoto Window. Note: You're getting the Aperture Previews not Masters. Note too that if you set iPhoto to Referenced mode (iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced) then you won't use double the disk space.
+Remember though, you are not accessing the Aperture Library. If you make changes in the Aperture Library (Re-edit the shots) after bringing pics to iPhoto, those changes are not reflected in iPhoto.+
This is what William means when he says the iPhoto does not access the Aperture Library.

My Frame Is Drifting (zoom in) And Blowing Edges Off The Viewer

How do I prevent this from happening.

I am working with 8 mm movies converted to HD (1920x1080) at 15 fps. As I proceed along the timeline with my various editing tasks, I notice that the image is more and more zoomed in and the upper and lower edges are getting pushed out of the view. Eventually the right and left edges get pushed out of the view.
What am I doing to cause this slow zoom in on the image and how can I prevent it from happening?
I have: done some pan and zoom on various clips, imported some still images, and made exposure adjustments on some of the clips.

I did pan and zoom of both stills and videos. The problem shows up for videos. However, I do not have any stills (yet) very far down the timeline.

Yep, 8 mm is 4:3. That is what my images first show up as when imported. Apparently over editing steps, the images down the timeline get pushed to a higher and higher zoom rate pushing the top and bottom out of the frame and eventually the right and left out of the frame.
The conversion from my 8 mm film was done by a “service” for me. I went to HD to give me flexibility for freeze frame extract of single frames. The 15 fps is a close match to the original media speed (16 fps) and works well with the 29 fps of Premiere Elements.
The source media is AVI:
Frame Width      1920
Frame Height     1080
Frame Rate         29 frames/second
In 8 mm image does not occupy the entire frame since it has a 4:3 aspect ratio
The Project Settings are:
Editing Mode                     HD 1080i
Timebase                            29.97 frames/second
Frame Size                          1920 vertical by 1080 horizontal
Pixel Aspect Ratio            square pixel (1.0)
Timeline content does not have the problem before any editing is done. However, as I do editing early in the timeline, unedited content down the timeline has the problem.
It’s possible that inserting content into the timeline results in the problem. I have inserted things and also slowed down the speed (via Time Stretch) of some video segments.

I have had the same problem for WEEKS and I cannot access any sites that use Flash. Flash has been installed on this computer since I bought it in 2012. I have allowed auto updates but for weeks the updates never get past Step 2 - is this because I do NOT want the Google Tool bar? I use NO tool bars as there is only 6 inches of vertical screen space. Is this because I uncheck wanting Chrome as a default browser? It is already installed, I just don't use it. I came to this site and ran the check is it installed and the system says it is either not installed or not enabled. Version 14 just downloaded about 30 minutes ago - but did not progress to Step 3 although a pop up screen came up with a finish button, which I clicked. WHAT is the problem and how do I fix it? If this were just a compatibility bug between IE11 and Adobe they have had plenty of time to fix it.

You can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
You can trash Firefox 4.0 then re-install Firefox 3.6, it will use your existing bookmarks, passwords etc

Open your QuickTime control panel (either via the Control panels, or by going "Edit > Preferences > QuickTime Preferences" in the Quicktime Player). In the Advanced tab, uncheck Enable Direct3D video acceleration:
... and click OK. Quit and restart the QuickTime Player prior to checking to see if the settings change has had any effect.
