INSTALL_OLAPTRAIN FOR CREATING OLAP CUBES

Hi all;
I do a project and I finished Oracle dat mining part. Now, I want to apply OLAP cubes application. Firstly, I need to installation Oracle OLAP 11g Sample Schema. But I can't install olaptrain sample schema.
How can I create OLAP cubes by shortest?

I am trying to install the olaptrain schema in a 11g 11.2.0.1.0 db. I should be able to do it, because the readme file requires DB "11g (patch 11.1.0.7 or higher)". However, I get the following error message:

What do you mean "It Not Working"？ As Kamath said, please post the detail error message, so that we can make further analysis.
In the Data Source View of a CUBE, we can define a named query. In a named query, you can specify an SQL expression to select rows and columns returned from one or more tables in one or more data sources. A named query is like any other table in a data source
view (DSV) with rows and relationships, except that the named query is based on an expression.

Creating a SAP RemoteCube
Prerequisites
·        Direct access must be permitted for the DataSource (in the DataSource maintenance).
·        This DataSource from the sources system was assigned to the InfoSource.
·        You must have defined and activated the transfer rules for this combination. Note the peculiarities of transfer routines:
¡        You need to explicitly select the fields of the transfer structure that you want to use in the routine. See also Creating Transfer Routines.
¡        If you have created a transfer routine, you can create an Inversion Routine for performance optimization.
¡        If you use a formula then the selections in this field cannot be transferred. We recommend using a transfer routine instead.
·        In BW, a source system ID was created for the source system To do this choose Tools ® Assignment of Source System to Source System ID in the main menu.
Procedure
       1.      Choose the InfoSource tree or InfoProvider tree in the Administrator Workbench under Modeling.
       2.      In the context menu, choose Create InfoCube.
       3.      Select SAP RemoteCube as InfoCube type and enter your InfoSource.
       4.      You can define if a unique source system is assigned to the InfoCube using an indicator. Otherwise you must select the source system in the relevant query. In this case the characteristic (0LOGSYS) is added to the InfoCube definition.

       5.      In the next screen you can check the defined SAP RemoteCube and adjust it if necessary before activation.
       6.      You can then assign source systems to the SAP RemoteCube. To do this, choose Assign Source System from the context menu in your SAP RemoteCube. In the dialog box that follows, choose one or several source systems and select Save Assignments.
The source system assignments are local to the system and are not transported.
Result
The SAP RemoteCube can be used in reporting in cases where it does not differ from other InfoProviders.

Best practice for building OLAP cubes??

I have to build about 10 cubes as minimum for 50 GB database that share some dimensions, these cubes for 6 business areas.
I want to know whether to build all cubes on one analytical workspace or what??

If the cubes are going to share dimensions, then yes I would recommend putting them all in the same analytic workspace.

Recommended Hardware Config for huge OLAP Cube build

Hi David ,
Can you please provide the recommended hardware config for cube having billions of data under fact table . We ran a cube with 0.1 billion of data took around 7 hours to process. What could be the key areas to gain the performance benefit ? ansd also what could be the CPU , RAM (server) , RAM (Oracle DB) to gain much more perf benefit in such configurations ?
Also we have 32 bit windows 2003 server .Can we get better result if we switch to 64 bit ?

Well, I would definitely recommend you to proceed with a consultant because I feel that you have some lack of methodology and experience together with time constraints for your project.
Regarding hardware, unfortunately, I would not be able to give you any precise figures because I have no supporting information. What you should bear in mind that your system must be balanced. You (better with consultant) need to find a right balance between all the factors you consider as important while building a pile of hardware:
- cost
- architecture
- speed
- availability
- load scenarios
etc...
Regarding architecture point bear in mind that today finding right balance between processing power and storage processing capacity is a challenge. Put attention to this.

Permissions for role in OLAP cube are removed when cube is rebuild

Project Server rebuilds the OLAP cubes every 6 hours. I've recently added a role with "Process database" permissions, but this permission is removed each time the OLAP cube is rebuilt.
I've read in a different thread (slightly older software versions) that to solve this issue, you can script and schedule the handling of permissions for that specific role, but it's not really a solution. The duration for the OLAP cube to rebuild varies
in duration over time, and I'm not sure it's healthy to change the role permission on a cube when it's being rebuild.
Is there a different, elegant way to solve this? I'm sure this can't be the intention?
I'm running SQL Server 2008, Sharepoint 2010 SP2 and Project Server 2010 SP2

sorry, i dont have much experience with project server. But, from the quick glance, it does look like as you said the configs are very limited including the ability to change user roles. My suggestion is that you take the cube solution and add the user to
the role and redeploy to the AS. The assumption here is that, though you add the user manually, it is being written over with the old solution.
of course if you want to proceed with changing the roles via a script, you can schedule a job to run right after the cube has been processed each time.
probably better maintenance solution is to redeploy SSAS solution and reprocess.

Olap cubes in 10g for reporting

I am trying figure out how to use the olap cube I built in 10g.
1) Can you use materialized views on top of the olap cube in 10g? Sounds like this is a 11g feature?
2) Is query re-write for olap cubes available in 10g?
3) How are you accessing olap cubes in 10g other than using the Oracle reporting tools.

Issue with Building OLAP Cubes in Project Server 2010

There is some issue with while building OLAP cubes.
I have created OLAP cube then successfully cube has builded. When i add resource level custom field which has lookup tables values in ASSIGNMENT CUBE then getting cube failure meesage.
I deleted and recreated custom field and lookup table but no luck

Is the SQL Server and Analysis Server are running on different servers and not on default ports?
If yes, then check if the same alias’s name added in Project Server is added on the Analysis Server.

Can Crystal Connect to Oracle OLAP Cube

I have CR Professional XI installed. Does it have the capability to connect to Oracle 10g OLAP Cubes created in Oracle AWM?

    If the answer is true, then we can create a connection in Crystal, under OLAP, to create an OLAP connection to ESSbase in CR.

Hi,
How to create OLAP Catalog Metadata objects automatically from Analytic Workspace, not using CWM2_OLAP_AW_OBJECT package.
Is there tool for it?

Analytic Workspace Manager is the supported tool from Oracle for creating OLAP catalog metadata (plus the SQL views required for BI Beans). Hopefully this should be out in June as an additional download following the 9.2.0.3x patch.
However you might want to look at IAF Software's "Coaster" product (http://www.iafsoft.com/products/coaster.htm) which also contains functionality to create the OLAP Catalog. We've had a play around with it and have been impressed.

Creating a Cube using pure OLAP DML

This should be quite simple, but neither reading OLAP_*.pdf nor googling helped me, so maybe you can give me a hint where to look:
I want to create dimensions, populate them, create a cube, and finally populate it, using just OLAP DML (i.e. no DBMS_AW or CWM/CWM2 packages).
1) How can I execute OLAP DML? Right now I'm using sqlplus, wrapping each line in execute dbms_aw.execute(...);
There's some better way, right? :)
2) Can someone give me a link to a simple tutorial, showing how to create a cube et c.? Right now I'm as far as
AW CREATE olaptest1
DEFINE dimfoo DIMENSION TEXT AW olaptest1
DEFINE dimbar DIMENSION TEXT AW olaptest1
SQL SELECT DISTINCT(foo) FROM footable ORDER BY 1 INTO :dimfoo

We (i.e. the company I work for) creates software (in C++) which needs to work with a lot of data which is in an Oracle-DB.
As the analysis done by the SW would profit (performance-wise) from the layout of the data in an cube, we want to get the data in a cube.
But information like the number of dimensions isn't known beforehand (as that's sth. that's dependent on the site the customer uses the SW on, and can
change with time), the software has to do the creation of dims and the cube itself.

And as OLAPI isn't available for C++ (at least afaics), I'd really want to do this in PL/SQL.

You can always build the original AW using
AWM, then save the build script it generates, and use
that to do subsequent builds.

the DBMS_AW.INFILE plsql routine, which saves you
some quotes :-).

Unable to create dataset against OLAP Cube from different server

Hi guys,
If I load Microsoft SQL Report Builder on the BI Server, I am able to create a dataset against the OLAP Cube I created on the BI Server, however if I try to run the Report Builder from a different server I get the following error:
"Unable to connect to data source 'MyOLAPCube'.
A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 172.20.112.82:2382
A connection cannot be made to redirector. Ensure that 'SQL Browser' service is running."
I have had no issues starting the SQL Browser service, however if I try to run it in console mode, I get the following error:
'SQLBrowser: Warning: failed starting OLAP redirection services with error 1.'
I have checked online and seen a few similar issues online however I haven't been able to resolve my issue with their resolution.
Any help is appreciated.

Yeah there is a firewall running on both servers, however I had opened port 2383 and was still unable to make a connection. It is using a named instance on the server (servername/instancename) and it is configured to use port 0, so I therefore assume
it should be using port 2383 by default? Or as it's a named instance, is the default port 2382? Maybe it would be better to configure it to use a specific port and open the port on the firewall?

Named instances use dynamic port assignments. As the discovery service for Analysis Services, SQL Server Browser service listens on TCP port 2382 and redirects the connection request to the port currently used by Analysis Services.
So you can open the port 2382 for Named Analysis Services Instance remote connect.

Can anyone provide some good guide for implementing the OLAP cubes using ORACLE ver 10.1.0.2.0 with AWM Release 1.

Well, if some of the required componets were missing, I would imagine you getting an error when trying to connect?
Where is this ASP application actually running?
Is it running on your localhost IIS web server?
If not, any setup on your computer will be irrelevent.
If it is, you need to install MDAC components, and 2.8 is the latest.
If running on your local IIS, did you try to create a very basic ASP page which just creates a connection to the database in question? Does that work?
Do you have ON ERROR statements in your code to bypass any/all SQL errors?
If you create a simple UDL file on your desktop and specify the server/user/password (ater selecting Oracle OLEDB driver), does the connect button work?
