Install Oracle for SPARC on intel machine?

can i install oracle for SPARC on a Solaris x86 box?
As I am not able to find right version for it.

Not, you can not do it because a version made up for Sparc is adjusted to the assembler for that processor. The assembler language of Sparc and Intel are different.

Here I am using Java Type IV for database
    connection.
So,there was no necessity of creating DNS.How your app communicates with db shouldn't matter for the end user. Still, you may want to use a functional network name also for the thin client driver connection string.
So,is there any other way to solve this problem. What is the problem really? Do you not use dns for network naming? Maybe you have to manage the hosts file on every client then.

Does 10.4.6 have two different install CDs for PPC and Intel?
Also, is only CD 1 required for OS install?
    Thanks!

I tried my black OS X 10.4.6 CDs on a G4 yesterday specifically to see if an install from disk 1 only is possible. Sadly it is not. It requires about 400 GB from disk 2 no matter how minimal you try to make it. My disk 2 contains the following and the install needs everything except languages:

    Upgrade to Leopard
Those wishing to upgrade to Leopard should be aware that install disks can be expensive unless you contact Apple. Details: http://lowendmac.com/deals/best-os-x-leopard-prices.html Standard Leopard installers impose several hardware limitations including speed and RAM size but all these restrictions can be overcome. Google for details. Leopard works well at 500 MHz with 1 GB of RAM and many happy users have less than this.
    Upgrade beyond Leopard
OSs beyond OS X 10.5.8 require an Intel processor. If in doubt check this: Click the apple at the top left of your screen and select 'About this Mac'. This will give you your OS number. Then click 'More Info' to see which processor you have. If it says PowerPC you cannot upgrade to Snow Leopard and above. If you have an Intel Mac it is well worth upgrading to Snow Leopard now and then considering other options after that. You can buy Snow Leopard here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A

So that we may better diagnose DOWNLOAD problems, please provide the following information.
    - Server name ORACLE 9I DATABASE
    - Filename
    - Date/Time 5 JULY 2K2
    - Browser + Version IE 6
    - O/S + Version SUN SOLARIS
    - Error Msg

I didn't see anything on the Sun site, but the disk arrived with my Solaris media. I have installed it on one machine (you need to create the "oracle" user id, the "dba" group, and you must set the tunable parameters for shared memory to install the software and example database.)
I tried to install a second machine and the Oracle installer terminates half way through without errors. I'm still working that issue.

  • Installing Oracle Apps on Linux Virtual Machine, but need patch "6078836"

    Hello Friend's,
    Hope you are doing well...!
I start my EBS Training in a functional role in less than 10 day's.
My dilemma is that i am having a heck of a time installing Oracle Apps on my machine. As recommended in many blogs, i've installed a virtual machine environment and then installed Linux Version 5 Update 5. Before i begins installing Oracle apps, the last step is to go to my oracle support "mos" and install patch 6078836, which i can't access. It seems to me as if that one should either have a paid oracle support account or be a part of an organization/company that has one. I can't get past the sign in page to install this patch and no where in these blogs does it say this.
Does anyone have this patch or has access to it or any knowledge or idea as to where can i find this?
As a back up i've started downloading Oracle apps for a windows server machine as well, in case i am unable to download this patch at least i have a back up. And the bad thing about this is the fact that i am in India and the bandwidth here sucks even with a 2 MB plan. With these speeds this 50 GB download will take another 3 to 4 days. And time is of the utmost importance for me right now..
Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated..
Thank you all in advance and hope that you have a great weekend..!

Does anyone have this patch or has access to it or any knowledge or idea as to where can i find this?Even though any of us has the patch we are not supposed to mail it as this violates Oracle support agreement policy.
There is no other source to get the patch and most Oracle patches (if not all) can be downloaded from MOS website.

Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated..We cannot suggest anything about the download speed or the timing, and even if you had a CSI number it would take 3-5 days to get the Media Pack in case you log a SR and ask Oracle support to send you the pack.

  • Oracle for Sparc different than x86?

Does anyone know if there is different versions of Oracle 8i for Solaris on a Sparc or x86? Thanks

    Hello,
if you ask if the (Oracle) binaries are identical. No, these are different processor architectures.
In case you are asking if one of the versions (SPARC or X86 Solaris) is newer. I think the SPARC version is of cause newer (Oracle 8i SPARC is the cash cow)! The last Oracle 8i I have seen for X86 SPARC was 8.1.6. It came with my Solaris 8 Intel media kit (which is rather old). The SPARC version is 8.1.7. with patchlevel 8.1.7.4.
Have a look at the Oracle web site (http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/oracle8i/content.html). Oracle 8i SPARC is under "Archived Products" still available for download. The version for X86/Intel Solaris is not available for download, you must order a media kit from Oracle.

  • Install Oracle XE on the same machine as Oracle EE

    Hi all,
I have a version of Oracle 11g EE installed on my pc, but I would like to check out the Oracle XE for educational purposes.
I've read that it is possible to run both on one machine, but I couldn't find more info on cofiguring it with the Oracle EE listener . So both versions of Oracle would work.
Can anyone point me to some docs/ tutorials or give me some steps to do this.
    Thanks in advance.
    Kind regards,
    Cleo

Do not worry too much about the Listener - XE can use (and will register itself) with the existing Listener. The only potential issue is that the existing Listener may not support http clients for EPG connectivity (used for running XE's Apex application and IDE). But that is easily configured.
The first thing to determine is whether the XE instance starts up. And if not, why not.
If you want to start XE manually, you can do that via the console. You will however need to set the ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID environment variables - use sqlplus, logon using +"/ as sysdba"+ and issue the startup command.
With this approach you will get interactive feedback of the startup - or failure to startup.
Alternatively, you need to start the XE instance via the Service Manager control panel applet and then find the XE's alert log to see why the startup failed.
Without knowing the error it throws at startup, it would be very difficult to diagnose the cause of the startup failure.
PS. There is however very little reason to use XE for "practise" when you already have EE installed.

  • Installing Oracle on a solaris zone machine

    Hello
I assume this is a legitimate question now that Oracle bought Sun :)
I have a solaris zoned machine. On a normal Solaris machine, I edit several parametersd in /etc/system
what to do in case of zoned machine?
    thank you

Or you can check Oracle installation guide for Solaris
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15690/pre_install.htm#sthref84
On Solaris 10, use the following procedure to view the current value specified for resource controls, and to change them if necessary:
    1.
To view the current values of the resource control, enter the following commands:
    # id -p // to verify the project id
    uid=0(root) gid=0(root) projid=1 (user.root)
    # prctl -n project.max-shm-memory -i project user.root
    # prctl -n project.max-sem-ids -i project user.root
    2.
If you must change any of the current values, then:
    1.
To modify the value of max-shm-memory to 6 GB:
    # prctl -n project.max-shm-memory -v 6gb -r -i project user.root
    2.
To modify the value of max-sem-ids to 256:
    # prctl -n project.max-sem-ids -v 256 -r -i project user.root

  • Crosscompiling for Sparc on Intel

    Hello gurus,
I've a problem on which nobody could help me yet. Maybe I ask the wrong questions or the wrong people - who knows. So I ask YOU as THE gurus for Solaris (a newbie on Solaris I am).
    Here it comes:
It is ANYHOW possible to compile a program (plain .c) for the SPARC Solaris 8 on a Intel Solaris 8 system? Please help if you can. In case it is possible - you have an idea on howto link the sparc solaris 8 mysql libs within?
c'ya and thanx in advance, Dirk.

    Hi,
there was an article in a german magazine (freeX 2'2002) on this subject.
Title: Cross-Compile von Programmen fuer Linux/sparc (Author Felix J. Ogris)
    (crosscompiling programs for Linux/SPARC).
The article is very good and gives valuable hints BUT is in german.
    The authors home-page is http://www.ogris.de/.
Link to the table of contents (also in german)

Maybe the author is willing to send you a draft copy of his article (in german).

  • Installing Oracle for SAP on existing non-SAP RDBMS

The title says it all -
I haven't been able to find any real docs supporting or not supporting the practice of using an existing Oracle 10.2 RDBMS to add an SAP DB.  I know it's technically possible, but since the SAP Oracle installer is configured to build a new RDBMS for each SAP instance/DB installation, I'm wondering if it can be altered and piggy back on an existing one.
The reason is I have a customer who would like to do this so they can continue to use an existing DEV Oracle server without adding the stress of an indepedent set of oracle binaries running, and consuming resources.

    > But aside from that - let's assume the release and patch levels from their own DBs are equal to the requirements from SAP.  What other considerations/issues/supportabilty problems might be encountered?
If it's not a production system you could certainly go for it.
I think though, that it's MUCH LESS maintenance work using a second ORACLE_HOME than to try to fiddle with the huge amount of single/interim patches SAP requires. If you just check
    Note 871096 - Oracle 10.2.0: Patches/patch collections for Oracle 10.2.0.2 (59 interim patches)
    Note 1137346 - Oracle 10.2.0: Patches/patch collections for Oracle 10.2.0.4 (39 interim patches)
I can imagine you having a pretty hard time aligning that with the other non-SAP databases. On top may come incompatibilities with OPatch (SAP uses a "special OPatch") where you may need to switch between the official one and the "SAP-one" depending on which patch you install.
The only additional resources the new ORACLE_HOME uses is harddisk space (some GB) - which shouldn't be more expensive than the work you'll need to invest to keep the system and working for both.
Technically it can be done - certainly.

  • Best way to install oracle server + odp on same machine

    Hello,
I've been having problems with this configuration:
    Win 2003 x64 R2
    + IIS Server
    + Oracle DataBase 10g Release 2 102010_win64_x64_database
    + 10.2.02 patchset Win2003 x64
    + ODAC 10.2.02 x64 Beta
So far, I've installed all in the same Oracle_home.
I get an ORA-12154 "TNS:could not resolve service name" error when running my ASP .NET application.
Been reading in the Knowledge Base and found that there where some issues with access to bin directories from ASP applications. Tried to solve it that way but couldn't make it work.
I'm reinstalling now, and I'm wondering if it's better to install ODP on a different ORACLE_HOME...
    Any advice?
    Thanks for your help.

On web.config you can find this line:
    <add assembly="Oracle.DataAccess, Version=2.102.2.20, Culture=neutral,
    PublicKeyToken=89B483F429C47342"/>
I could change this version to the one on my GAC but i cannot change the
version inside one of the DLLs of our app. There's 2 ways to reference an assembly. One is to use web.config, which is specific to ASP.NET. When you add a reference in the VS IDE, it will create this entry in web.config for you. Or, you can hand-edit the file to create it. Of course, you might get an entry like this "by accident" if you copy from somebody else's code example.
For library, console, Win Forms, and all other project types except ASP.NET, a reference placed within the IDE will create metadata in the assembly's manifest area.
In all cases, you should only put a reference on the specific Oracle assembly you want to use. If the manifest or web.config are wrong, it means you referenced the wrong assembly. The manifest of an assembly can be viewed with ildasm.
You need to be anal about developing with the same exact assemblies as the ones you will deploy with.
Sometimes Oracle will add a "binding redirect" assemblies with new updates, and this forces all pre-existing programs to automatically use the new assemblies. I personally would like to see them document this better. This can cause a great deal of confusion because it can cause production programs to use newer assemblies than the ones you developed with. In most cases, we hope this is fine. But it flies in the face of "side-by-side" deployment and invalidates one of the key advantages of .NET.

  • What is difference to ORACLE for a 16 cpus machine and 1 cpu with 16 cores?

What is performane impact to ORACLE running on a 16 cpus machine compare to 1 cpu with 16 cores?
No difference? but maybe something I don't know.........

So far (I know) there is only quad cores/socket available in the market. Advantage with multiple cores in a socket is
If you are using Standard edition and < 1000 concurrent users, Oracle license based on Socket. So you will pay 4 CPU license instead of 16 CPU for quad core sockets and
    Technically performance of 4 * quad core/socket = 16 Single core CPUs.
