Install Oracle on Solaris Intel
I have purchased Oracle8i Enterprise Edition, Release 2(8.1.6) for Intel Unix(Solaris Intel), and have installed successfully. However, as soon as I shut down and reboot the machine, I can connect to sqlplus
internal, but I cannot log into the database as "sys".
The procedure I did is as following:
Immediately after the installation (message says "installation successful"),
1. Log in as user "oracle" in the Bourne shell.
2. At the $ prompt, type "sqlplus internal"
3. It come out with SQL prompt
4. SQL> show user ( I typed show user under SQL prompt)
5. Then it return "sys"
Things seemed to work fine at that point.
But, when I shut down and reboot the machine and logon again, and follow the same steps 1-5 as above, it did not work. When I did the "show user" command at SQL prompt, the user is not "sys", instead it returned
" ". I followed the installation guide and tried to reinstall 5 times.
Every time I had the same problem. I was wondering if this is a bug in
the CD. How can I solve it?
Thanks,
Lillian
Got past this spot... Thanks to the beefier shared memory/semaphore settings in this website (from another response in this forum)

Disk partitioning tool, to install oracle in solaris
I need to install oracle in solaris. Is there any version of solaris for intel processors.
Is there any free disk partioning tool availbaleThe partitioning tool (fdisk) you need comes with OpenSolaris 10. First Download this free Operating System from sun.com. Then start the installation. You will be asked to partition your hard disk. The system automatically recognises Windows Installations and Linux Installations on the same disk. Windows Installations will be bootable after the Solaris Installation. Linux and Solaris is not able to use the same disk. Because they have the same boot loader/manager called GRUB and must make a different disk layout for this boot loader. But you can use Linux and Solaris on different disks.
Oracle 10.1 and 10.2 is available for Solaris x64. I strongly recommend to use the 64 Bit AMD64 version. Its a real fun and fast as hell. Supported Raid Controllers can be found at the Solaris driver discussion forum at www.opensolaris.org. -
Can you install 9i on Solaris Intel ?
Can you install Oracle 9i on Solaris Intel ? 32 / 64 bit
Hello dear people,
I'm trying to install the 9i Database for Sun SPARC (32-bit) on an Intel machine with Solaris 8 running. I followed all steps of the installation documentation, but when I try to execute the runInstaller programm, I get always the following error:
Syntax error at row 1: '(' unexpected.
Can you tell me, which is actually the terminal Release for Intel Solaris? I were very pleased.
Thanks,

I have Installed Oracle 8 on Solaris Intel with starter Database. Its fine and working, but when I create custome database It reports can not connect to Oracle. I am struck. Please help me out.
Regards,
nullyou would need to startup your database in order to connect! Or if you are connecting using sqlplus "/ as sysdba". You would need to be in the unix dba group in order to connect.

To install Oracle 10g in a Solaris 10, Do I need to launch a GUI or do I can install it in text mode?
An interactive installation needs the graphical installer. Alternatively you could perform a silent installation using a response file. You find all necessary steps in the installation guide.

Install OSB in Solaris (Intel)
Hello,
I am trying to install OSB 10.3 on a Mac Intel with SUN VM running Solaris 10. I download the binary from this link
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/osb/index.html
Labeled:
Download for Solaris Operating System (SPARC 32-bit)
But it does not work.
Trying to find whats wrong I download the BPM Enterprise Installer from this place
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/bpm/index.html
Labeled:
for Solaris Operating System (SPARC 64-bit)
and it works
Do you know if there is any installer of OSB for SPARC 64 or what happened with the installer?
bash-3.00$ ./osb1031_wls103_solaris32.bin
bash: ./ osb1031_wls103_solaris32.bin: Argumento no valido bash-3.00$
Thanks in advanceHi,
I found the following information:
bash -3.00#file OracleBPMEnterpriseWL103100_sol.bin
OracleBPMEnterpriseWL103100_sol.bin: secuencia de Ă³rdenes de shell ejecutable
bash -3.00#file server103_solaris32.bin
server103_solaris32.bin: ELF 32 bits MSB ejecutable SPARC Version 1, enlazado dinĂ¡micamente, quitado
bash -3.00#file osb1031_wls103_solaris32.bin
osb1031_wls103_solaris32.bin ELF 32 bits MSB ejecutable SPARC Version 1, enlazado dinĂ¡micamente, quitado
bash -3.00#
Why it worked is because the first one is a shell and the others are exec compiled for SPARC.
My future proyect will run in solaris thats the reason I want to test in this enviroment. Thanks to everybody I must wait until the server with sparc arrives. -
Err when installing Oracle on solaris (URGENT) please help
while installing 10g database on solaris i am finding the following error
" ./runinstaller : line 56: /root/desktop/database/install/.oui: cannot execute binary fileHave you carefully followed the installation documents of your OS specific?
$ uname -a
By the way, Oracle has a good "Quick Installation Guide 10g Release 2 (10.2) for Solaris Operating System (SPARC 64-Bit)". Don't miss any pre-requisite steps. I have followed the same documentation to install and configure Oracle Database 10g on Solaris 5.10 - SPARC Machine.

Oracle 8i support intel i5 processor
Hi all
I would like to install oracle 8i on intel core i5 based processor is it working on same platform.
kindly give me the suggetions for the same
Thanking You
SudhirHi,
Oracle 8i is a very long period out of support. So you can install it on I5 but you have to look at an OS what will support I5 and also 8i. For example I don't think Windows NT will work on I5, and it will definitely not being supported. Why not try 11G if you need a fresh install? Another option will be a virtual server in which you install Oracle 8i on an old (supported) OS.
