Install win 8.1 pro pack
In the process of Adding Features to Win 8.1 with the Microsoft Win8.1 Pro Pack, I was able to install the Microsoft license key - it accepted it, but the last step in the process fails with this error: "Something went wrong. Close this wizard and try again."
I have attempted to reboot and retry, but I get the same error. Has anyone come up with a fix for this?

Fresh install Win 8.1 Pro into Pavilion X2 (10", 32GB tablet)
Have a Pavilion X2 (32GB version) with Win 8.1 Bing.
Need to get into domain, therefore wanted to fresh install Win 8.1 Pro, at the same time remove the recovery partition for more space.
F10 to bios to set bootup to USB drive, pops in a Win 8.1 Pro x64 installation disc, but X2 refuses to boot to disc.
Is it the x64 version disc problem or have i missed some setting to make the X2 boot to disc properly??HI @Nikola84 ,

Can't Install Win 8.1 Pro 64bit
Hi Guys,
I just purchase Win 8.1 Pro from the Microsoft Store (AUS). I have created a live usb (selected from the windows setup options) so that I could do a clean install of the OS on my laptop.
Each time that I have installed the OS (both clean or upgrade) it automatically installs the 32bit version. When I purchased the OS, it did not specify whether it was bit-specific, so I assumed it would include both bit versions, with an option to select
during the installation process.
I know my laptop is capable of running 64bit environment as my previous OS was Win 7 Ult 64bit.
Does anyone know what to do to either force the setup into installing 64bit, or any other method to get 64bit installed.
Cheers...My understanding is that the download from Microsoft will be the same bitness as the OS you were running when you downloaded it.
I don't recall the mechanism, but I do believe with a little elbow grease it's possible to get a 64 bit Windows 8.1 download, as I recall reading another forum thread where someone had the same issue and ultimately solved it. Do some searching for
forum posts on this same subject; I'll bet you can turn up the information.
I wish I'd been able to help you more directly, but don't lose hope.

Can't install Win 8 - Satellite Pro C660 does not detect HDD
Hello,
My HDD has died, so i decided to upgrade my Satellite Pro C660-1D9 to an SSD.
I made a bootable USB with Win8, and booted just fine.
The problem is that it does not detect my SSD so i can proceed with the install.
SSD shows up in BIOS, but not in Windows install.
It says there's a driver missing.
I downloaded AHCI drivers (XP, only ones available) and even then, after selecting the only driver that appears, it says no new devices found.
I tried changing SATA mode from AHCI to Compatibility mode and it's the same..
What can i do?
Thanks for the help.
Best regards,
Bruno MoreiraOlder Windows XP required an AHCI driver from Intel but I think this isnt a missing SATA driver issue because as far as I know Windows 8 as well as Win 8.1 already contains the drivers in order to recognize the HDD or SSD drive.
Furthermore the OS installation should be possible even if the driver would not be added... for this procedure you have to use the "compatibility mode".
As you said, the compatibility mode did not work too, so I think there is another problem.
However, Toshiba driver page provides also an Intel RST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) driver (Windows 8 - Upgrade) which you could try to add while OS installation.
But Im wondering if you would be able to install this Win 8 on common SATA HDD.
Did you try to format the SSD drive using another computer and then to install Win 8?
Try it out. -
So I am thinking my Windows 8.1 Pro needs a refresh, but I have not ran "recimg /createimage C:\*" for a while and because of the problems I have. I cannot create a new one, it just wont work and I've had a post on here about that issue for a while
now and nothing has worked. So I know I need to re-install windows but I really want to be able to keep my Programs & files.
So my question is, are there any other methods to re-install Windows 8.1 pro without losing my programs?
That's the reason I have not just done a reinstall, because of the time and effort needed to do this in a timely manner. Also I need to keep my programs APPDATA intact so that my applications still work as they do now, some programs have got months
of history and data. Also I am not certain I still have the installers for some of my applications, I know I can get them but again its the time it would take.
This is why I run a separate backup of my APPDATA DIR, am I right in thinking that If I did have to reinstall that I could just restore the old APPDATA data to the new Install and my programs would automatically have all there normal settings?
So what are my options?
Thanks peeps.
JK MCPIsn't that only used when a PC will not boot?
What options does booting with this give me?
Thanks
JK MCP
Hi,
USB recovery disk was used to recover your system when it encounter problem. You can try to use it to fix your problem instead reinstall system. However, there is no method to keep your program whenreinstall system.

Yoga 2 Pro BIOS UI corrupted after clean install Win 8.1 Pro
Hi all.
First of all sorry for my bad English.
And here is my problem:
I just bought a new laptop "Yoga 2 Pro". Because I have a legal copy of Windows 8.1 Pro I decided to reinstall the system. Before re installing BIOS UI looked normal but after re installation of the operating system BIOS UI looks strange and can not use it. You can see it on the attached photos. I tried to reinstall the system a few times but immediately after installation BIOS UI looked like in the pictures. Interesting that after removing system from SSD, BIOS UI is starting to look normal and is fully functional. I even tried different versions of the operating system because I thought that the cause lies with the ISO file. The effect has always been the same.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this problem?
I will be grateful for any suggestions.I did try removig the Lenovo energy management software, but that didn't work. I also then reinstalled and tried setting it to Performance mode. However, I didn't look for a Windows power mgmt solution.
What's weird is that after I powered down and used the Novo button to check the BIOS version (just to confirm what I said earlier), when I restarted Windows again I did not see the Hyper-V error message. I haven't restarted again, but will check again tomorrow morning when Windows starts again. -
Boot Camp- unable to install win 8.1 pro OEM on mac mini.
Hi,
I have latest mac min with mavericks OS. I have genuine windows 8.1 Pro OEM version.
when I am trying to install windows OS, after windows 8 logo screen becomes blank and not going ahead.
I have tried with USB stick as well as DVD drive. The issue is same.
Is windows 8.1 pro OEM supports for the mac mini.
ThanFrom Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows operating systems
Requirements for all Windows installations
In order to install Microsoft Windows using Boot Camp, you need the following:
An Internet connection
An administrator account in OS X to use Boot Camp Assistant
The keyboard and mouse or trackpad that came with your Mac (If they aren’t available, use a USB keyboard and mouse)
A minimum of 2 GB of RAM, 30 GB of free disk space are recommended if you are installing Windows for the first time, or 40 GB of free disk space if you are upgrading from a previous version of Windows
An authentic Microsoft Windows full install disc or ISO file
A built-in optical drive, or a compatible external optical drive is required if you are using an install disc
8 GB USB storage device, or external drive formatted as MS-DOS (FAT) to install the downloaded drivers -
Why is this so difficult? A lot of the directions are outdated by months.
It is not difficult if you read and follow the instructions located here: http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/

Windows 8.1 Pro Pack fails to install
Been trying to install Windows 8.1 Pro Pack on my Dell XPS but it continues to fail, indicating 'something went wrong'. I worked with two different Microsoft support techs on this. The first executed a number of scans and started dism.exe /online
/cleanup-image /scanhealth, which finished successfully. They then started dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth, which started and remained at 40%. The first tech later disconnected. I worked with another tech that performed
a virus scan and then indicated that I would have to pay for premium service for him to scan the laptop again.
There are no errors listed in the system log that I can find and no way to determine what 'something went wrong' means. All of the non-Microsoft services have already been disabled by the first tech using 'msconfig' so there is nothing running other
than Windows. Does anyone know where there might be a log or trace that I can check to determine why the Pro Pack won't install?
Thank you in advance.Hi,
We can check the following path to troubleshoot the installation.

Error trying to install Win 8.1 x64 Enterprise
Brand new iMac 27", fully loaded, 1 TB SSD, 32 GB RAM, running Mavericks 10.9.3. Trying to install Win 8.1 x64 Enterprise (from MSDN).
Downloaded the ISO file and license and used Boot Camp to install the files and Apple Support files to a 16 GB USB 3.0 thumbdrive.
Used Boot Camp to repartition the 1 TB SSD to set a Windows partion of 256 GB, then the computer rebooted into Windows Setup.
Came to the drives listing, selected the BOOTCAMP parition (Drive 0, Partition 4, 239 GB) and formated it, then clicked on NEXT.
Thought for a while, then it came up with this error message: "We couldn't install Windows in the location you chose. Please check your media drive. Here's more info about what happened: 0x80300002"
Got some hits on Google about issues with VISTA, or with Intel processors, but, nothing specific.
Checked USB thumb drive with Norton, no issues, CHKDSK, no issues.
Have repeated the entire process twice, including restoring the patition and recreating it, and rebuilding the USB Thumbdrive.
Any ideas on what to do?
Thanks!More sadness. I finally started getting the BSOD as soon as Windows booted, and, I could not restart or shutdown the computer...had to power off. That, after a few times, corrupted my BootCamp partition. I messed around with trying to fix, but, no joy.
Redid the partition, checked all drives for errors (fixed permissions on the Mac HD...LOT of errors), and created a new partition.
Used USB 2.0 (VERY SLOW) thumbdrive and had all external drives removed, and installed Win 8.1 Pro, not Enterprise this time.
Got it back up, patched it, configured it, put Norton 360 on it (have on all my computers and iOS devices) shut down, and hooked up the external drives. Booted up and...got the BSOD.
This time I had Windows Debugger loaded, and after the BSOD could reboot, go back intoWindows, and Debug.
Culprit seems to be Norton--in particular a Norton Storage driver. Will be contacting vendor to fix.

Does partitioning Bootcamp [rMBP] 2014 really ready to run win 8.1 Pro?
Hello for all the experts and thank you for your time, it won't be long.
I'm using an Early 2013 rMBP 15"
I'd like to install Win 8.1 pro (because that is the only original copy I can get from Microsoft Store online, (Got it),
and the fact that I am a student with RTL languages needs, I need Microsoft's Office [which I prefer 2010 but again the Online store
makes only the 2013 available, and I want everything to be original.
So, my questions are collected in order to make things clearer, for me, and for others of-corse:
<1> Does Apple and Microsoft really works together?
<XXX> Would I be able to update to Yosemite or any other update from apple with windows installed on my drive ?
<2> Does the Bootcamp is the best option for my needs?
- Lets say it is, Does win 8.1 pro would be much more compatible than Windows 7 Pro ?
<3> What are the do and Don'ts ?
<4> How can I damage my mac if I won't use it wisely?
<5> Which format is needed to create a USB installation?
<6> What question should I ask ? what are there answers, please help
Thank you very much,

Hyper V on Win 8.1 Pro - can you use a wireless nic or does it need to be ethernet
On my desktop with win 8.1 pro i installed win 8.1 pro on hyper v as we are going over this chapter in school. i got it loaded just fine but when i start it up I have no internet on the virtual 8.1 pro OS. My desktop uses a wireless nic and I'm wondering
if this is the problem. I was able to get it to work once, but when I shut it down I no longer had an internet connection on the host OS. So i went in and removed the virtual switch and that did it - now i have internet on my desktop but when i turned the
virtual machine back on, created the virtual switch again - no internet on virtual machine. I have a feeling I'm configuring something wrong - I will probably find out monday at school but decided to post here because it is bugging me!
Any help is greatly appreciated
S VenderFYI - you should not need to perform the wireless sharing that is outlined in the article in the link provided.
You should only need to select the wireless adapter as the physical adapter associated with your External Virtual Network.
The internet sharing that folks do is only necessary in a very small number of cases due to router issues or wireless NIC driver issues.
