Installation of Oracle 11g 32 bit Client on Windows 7 (32 bit) laptop.
Hi,
I just got a new Laptop with Windows 7 (32 bit) operating system.
Has any one successfully installed Oracle 11g client on in Windows 7 environment and if so what are the steps involved.
In the past I have never had any trouble installing an Oracle client on a Windows work station.
Thanks,
Ashim.
Oracle hasn't officially supported 11g on windows 7. folks have installed it successfully too. Check the below threads.

Installation of Oracle 11g Release 2 on Windows Server 2008 R2
Hi:
When I tried to install 64-bit Oracle 11g Release 2 on a system running 64-bit Windows Server 2008 R2.
One of the system pre-requisites failed with the following error message:
Checking operating system requirements ...
Expected result: One of 5.0,5.1,5.2,6.0
Actual Result: 6.1
Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<<
Problem: Oracle Database 11g is not certified on the current operating system.
Recommendation: Make sure you are installing the software on the correct platform.
I presume 6.0 is Windows 2008 Server and 6.1 should be Release 2.
Does this mean that this version is not compatible with Server 2008 Release 2?

Does anyone know when we can expect 11g R2 for Windows? No one outside of Oracle officially knows (and they are under NDA)
No one inside Oracle is permitted to say, or pre-announce release dates for legal reasons.
Which is why I gave you the link - so you could monitor for yourself.OK, thanks...
I was just hoping there was an official release date and I just couldn't find it.
Is there any information about features in 11gR2 for Windows available yet?
Or can you maybe tell me if it will be possible to mount the new "database filesystem" like we can do on linux?
I remember oracle did something similar with Oracle ifs (Internet File System) back in Oracle 9i. (or was it 8i?)

Installing 32-bit client on windows 64-bit
Hi friends,
I've installed 64-bit Oracle software and database on Windows 2008 64-bit server. We have created this server to troubleshoot something at 3rd party location and our application will be on the same server as the database. Our application is not compatible with 64-bit client so is it possible to install 32-bit Oracle client on this system with 64-bit oracle database running? Do I have to make any changes to the path for the application to use 32-bit cilent?

Assistance needed during Oracle 11G R2 client installations in Windows 2008
Hi,
I am installing Oracle 11G R2 client in Windows 2008 R2 enterprise server. It has JR6 installed. But whenever I am launching the installer from OUI, I am getting the error 'Java: “Could not find the main class. Program will exit” and the installation is getting terminated. Any inputs/suggestions will be great for me.
Thanks in advance.Hi,
are you able to run java manually? I.e. java --help in the cmd? Are your environment variables (JAVA_HOME) set properly? -
Oracle 11g R2 Client Silent Installation Issue (PATH) Windows 7 x86
Hi All,
I'm hoping somebody can shed some light on this issue.
I created a Response file using the 'Save Response File' method during an interactive installation on a Windows 7 Enterprise x86 client. (file enclosed)
I have installed it multiple times now with multiple permutations of the command line (got caught out by the old lower case F in responseFile) but now I'm getting the same error each time (a critical error with the PATH according to the installation log). There is nothing wrong with the path length as the installation works fine in GUI mode and passes the Prereq check.
I launch the command line to install (with Run As Administrator) - "[location of setup.exe]\setup.exe" -nowait -silent -responseFile "[location of response file]\Oracle11gv2.rsp"

I am trying to install Oracle 11g 64 bit client on Windows 7 64 Bit Professional. I'm running setup as administrator and all prerequisites fail with Actual Value not Found Expected value not found. I select ignore and press next and the application just silently shuts down. Log is too big so here is an abbreviated log.
Here is the installation log

INFO: Get view named [SummaryUI]I disagree with your assessment, for two reasons.
One is the severity for RAM is listed as Severity:IGNORABLE.
Secondly I just saw this happen to myself just a moment ago (which is how I found this threat) as well using a silent install on a Windows 2008r2 server I can install to using the setup.exe manually. so disk and memory really isn't an issue.
I suspect something else is going on here. If you read those warnings the Critical they are just the last two about disk space and the PATH variable. Perhaps I am not running as elevated as I thought or the C$ share is not reach able. I am going to keep trying and will report back here when I get my silent install working.

Oracle 11g R2 Install on Windows 7 64 bit setup.exe does not work.
Hi
I am trying to install Oracle 11g R2 on my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. When I execute setup.exe as Administrator the command window flashes and exits. I could not even see what the message is. Also tried command prompt. Can anyone help me resolve this issue?
Appreciate your support.

Finally the install is successful.Congratulations.
And thank you for posting your solution. The security issue was quite a surprise to me as well, although it ties into a PC World article I read today.
To continue, please make sure you have a static IP address. If your system uses DHCP, that may mean setting up Loopback Adapter, configuring a static IP address other than 127.0.0.1 for that (for example you can use 192.168.123.101), and updating C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts. (note - no 3 char 'type on the hosts file) to include an entry like '192.168.123.101 myhost.example.com myhost', and perhaps setting your ORACLE_HOSTNAME variable. Windows 7 install of Oracle 11g R2 client hangs
The prior discussion was closed, but I have something to add, so I am opening a new thread. The prior thread is Oracle 11g install hangs on windows 7
I found that the very final post, by user12924267 was correct and solved the problem for me.
The symptoms were the same or similar as what other users had reported.
On Windows 7 workstation, I ran the 11g r2 installer. The installer would get to the point where it was checking system requirements, and then it would just hang there forever.
I tried disabling User Account Control (requiring a reboot), and that did not help.
I tried disabling the firewall, and that did not help.
However, the following command did work. From the command prompt at the installation folder
setup.exe -jreLoc C:\install\reinstall\sqldeveloper\jdk\jre
Then it went all the way through and installed successfully.
I don't think it really matters which Java folder you use. I happened to have a Java folder that I knew worked (because I had previously successfully run SQL-Developer from it), and so I just re-used that same Java folder. The default Java that comes with the 11g installer, is the one with the problem.Pl confirm that you are following all of the steps in the Install Guide - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e16774/toc.htm
Try re-installing with option "-logLevel" set to "finest" to see if additional information is captured in the install logs - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/em.112/e12255/c_oui_appendix.htm#BABDADJE

Installation of Oracle 11g on Windows 8
I am trying to install Oracle 11g Database in my windows 8 system.

I am running it as an administrator.
I need some help on this. I have tried to run in compatibility mode as well but help.994288 wrote:

Certification of Win 8 is expected with a future release - see http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/windows/tech-info/sod-oracle-db-win8-win2012-1853201.pdf
You have three options
1. Wait for this future Oracle release
2. Downgrade your OS to a supported version.
3. Install VM software (like Virtualbox), create a VM, install a supported OS in the VM, then install 11gR2 in the VM - see my blog (linked in my profile) for a detailed example

Insalling 32 & 64 bit clients in Windows 7 64bit OS
Hi,
We are using Windows 7 64bit OS. We have both 32 bit and 64 bit applications accessing our Oracle 10g server.
Some applications are listed bellow.
1) Forms 6i 32 bit
2) 32 bit VB6 application
3) Office VBA applications
4) Autocad 64 bit VBA
5) ASP.NET
I first installed forms6i. I find all my 32bit applications working perfectly.
Then I insalled 64 bit oracle 11g instant client & ODAC & ODBC. I tested the 64bit ODBC connection and it works.
Then when i try to run the 32 bit applications it not working.
I find that in registry my oracle home is pointing to the new 64bit client.
How to make both 32bit and 64bit applications work together.
Regards,
ShijithHi,
Thanks Srini for your quick reply.
Meanwhile we succeeded in installing both Oracle 32bit and 64 bit clients. The following clients are installed.
1) Oracle Forms 6i
2) Oracle 10g 32 bit client
3) Oracle 11g instant client, ODAC & odbc for 64bit.
By this we are able to run our
1) oracle form based applications
2) VB 6 Complied Applications
3) ODBC for both 32 & 64 bit.
But we can’t connect from VBA forms from both Office 2010 64 bit and Autocad VBA 2012 64 bit.
I tried ole db for connection string from VBA which gives the error prtovider was not found. Please provide me the steps [references if needed] and connection string for OleDB or any other method.
Actually I don't have much experience with oracle. This is what heppen so far.

The oracle client version is 11g R2 64 bit and the database server is a 11g R1 and I am trying to load the data from the server to a 11g R2 database.
I am not sure how to look at the version of the data pump client.
But i do have a 32 bit version of the 11g R2 also installed on my machine, could that be an issue? (he bin for both the installation are on the PATh variable)Yes, it could be an issue.
Run the executable file using the absolute path (i.e. if the 64-bit version is installed under C:\oracle\11gr2\bin then use C:\oracle\11gr2\bin\impdp). Or, make sure this ORACLE_HOME is set first in the PATH.
Thanks,

Cannot access APEX on Oracle 11g XE Beta on Windows 7
Hello,
I installed the Oracle 11g XE Beta on Windows 7 (32 bit). The installation went ok, and I am able to connect to the enterprise manager website using system/password and also using SQL Plus.
I didn't see a link to APEX setup as part of the install and hence tried http://localhost/pls/apex to launch APEX but an error page shows up.
Are there any post-install steps that I may have missed? Any pointers appreciated.
Thanks,
ManishCheck your listener status output (in a command/dos box) , it should have the http endpoint port number and host bits for the apex URL. It should not be port 80 which is what you get when the port is not specified.
$ lsnrctl status
... Listeneing Endpoints...
... PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=<your hostname>)(PORT=8080))(Presentation=HTTP) ...Given that output, apex URL would be http://<your hostname>:8080/apex -

It will bre great if anyone can help me with some ideas and concepts here.I have downloaded Oracle 11G R2 version from Windows and extracted it in Windows and copied it into DVD after extraction in two folders. Now I am mounting that DVD in Solaris 10 installed in my VMware . I made a new directory named as 'installation ' under /export/home/oracle and copied the folders from DVD to 'installation' folder. Now I am entering installation folder and try to do ./runInstaller as 'oracle ' user and getting the error mentioned before.

How to monitor the Oracle 11g database sessions on Windows 2008 server (other than SQL Developer tool), which procedure or query is taking more time with Java application.Recently i found this tool- myorasql on the net to monitor the performence of database, easy to setup and check the performence. i never tested it but seems impresive. It is free and i think it would be use ful to you.

You can also use Quest - Toad or sqlplus if you are very good at sql commands and all dictionary tables or OEM/EM grid if it is configured .
