Installation of Solaris on a new HDD

Hello,
I have a new HDD (20GB) that I had just installed onto the Ultra10 workstation. I have try to install both Solaris7 and Solaris 8 but faced some issues. After the completion of the installation, the system will reboot. BUT after reboot I will encoutered the below error message.
Can anyone kindly advise.
Rebooting with command : boot
Boot device :/ pci@1f, 0/pci@1/ide@3/disk@0,0:a File and args : -F cprboot
Fast Data Access : MMU Miss
ok
Thanks
Karen

I'm unsure about the exact syntax for setting a
configuration variable at the boot prom to an
empty string (that's why I suggested "-v" :-).
And I don't want to stop one of our servers now,
just to find the right answer.
But, now that you've solaris running, you can also
change the settings from solaris, using the eeprom
command.
eeprom boot-args=
should define "boot-args" with the empty string.

  • Problem with New HDD and installation of Qosmio Player

    Hi All,
Hope someone can help, I have had my Qosmio for 2 1/2 years now and recently had a problem with the hard disk. I decided to replace the hard disk as this was the quickest solution. The problem I have now is that I cannot receive TV on media center. I was trying to install qosmio player on the HDD to see if it made any difference but when I run the recovery disk supplied the software tells me that there is not enough disk space!!. The laptop came with a 60G hard disk and the new HDD made by the same manufacturer is a 150GB, can anyone help me out with this one would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    ED.

    Qosimo F10.
Sorry my previous entry was garbled. I upgraded the HDD to 120, could not get the Qosimo player to reload, same error, No space on HDD.
I then upgraded to Vista and downloaded the new Vista Qosimo drivers, created the ISO image and booted from it. Still did not work.

  • How i can install Mavericks on new HDD because my mac hdd broken

i have macbook pro A1286 hard disk damage . i buy new HDD and fix it on my mac , then how i can install Mavericks ?
i try many times but i cant finish this problem because i cant access to disk utilities or recovery mood because already the hdd is new&empty .
    Please Help

    Thanks

It's going to be impossible to install Mavericks unless you have a working Mavericks-USB-installer or an  "install OS X Mavericks.dmg" that YOU have downloaded from the App Store in the past.
You should use a Snow Leopard install DVD to install 10.6.8 Snow Leopard on your Mac. From there, you can use your  "install OS X Mavericks.dmg" to install Mavericks. If you don't have that, you can download and install Yosemite from the Mac App Store instead.
If you don't have either a Snow Leopard install DVD or a custom made Mavericks-installer-USB, you should call Apple and buy a Snow Leopard install DVD from them. They're still for sale.
The other option is to use another, still functioning, Mac and connect the two using a firewire cable. Then you can use Target Disk Mode to install Mavericks or Yosemite on your Mac http://support.apple.com/nl-nl/ht1661

  • CS5 Design Standard. Will not activate on new HDD following transfer from old HDD. Shows Error 213.10 Have serial number/s etc.

I recently encountered a problem with a HDD drive. So I had to replace it with a new one. Fortunately I managed to recover the data and applications on the original drive.
However when I transferred and installed the Adobe CS5 Design Standard suite on the new HDD it will not open any of the Adobe applications.
It prompts an error 213.10 each time. I can't see where to deactivate or reactivate.. please advise suggested course of action.
Also, will I be able to successfully access my previous files after the reinstallation/activation?
    Many thanks

Reinstall properly. Activation cannot work because in the technical sense it simply isn't there. You screwed it. Run teh cleaner tool if necessary and contact support to reset activations.

  • Hi, My Macbook Air Rev A 80gb HDD isn't showing up in Disk Utilitiy (new hdd btw)

Hey guys.. im new and this is my first post
Recently my Macbook Air rev a 80gb original hdd was failing *S.M.A.R.T* so i knew its time for a new hdd soon anyways... then i managed to format it with disk utility one day then after that it completely stopped detecting in disk utilitiy. now got my new hdd which is exactly the same *confirmed* and well its not detecting with my macbook...
    Helllppppp meee please
(PS. dont just comment stating the obvious i.e. try a new hdd cable as they are not cheap for a trial and error case)
    Thanks...
Ps. i have a secondary Mac Pro to use in the meantime if this can help repair/cd boot?

Does the new drive appear in Disk Utility?  If so then you need to prep the drive before you can use it:
    Drive Preparation
    1.  Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
When formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Complete the OS X installation.
If the drive does not appear in Disk Utility then either the new drive is dead, you've installed the ribbon cable incorrectly, the new drive is physically installed improperly, or there is some other hardware issue.

  • Replace HDD w/ Win 8 with new HDD w/Win 7

Just bought a HP Pavilion 17-e067cl Notebook PC from COSTCO. I want to remove the factory installed HDD with Win 8 and the factory load on it and replace it with a new HDD and load Win 7 on it
Is there anything in the BIOS that would prevent me from doing this? If so, can the settings be modded to accomplish my plan?
I intend to use an identical bare drive and load Win 7 on it.
Will a new, retail copy of Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit Full System Builder License and Media, GFC 020250 (1 machine, 1 license) be the correct version of the OS install. I want Home Prem.
My intention is to keep the original HDD with Win 8 in case warranty issues arise in the future or will the motherboard marriage be a problem?
    details for the laptop:

    ****Disclaimer*****
HP doesn't recommend the installation of Windows 7 on a computer shipped with Windows 8, nor will it support the installation of Windows 7. HP will not provide Windows 7 drivers and suitable drivers may not be available for the hardware in the computer. Also, Windows 7 may not support some of the hardware or software features designed for the computer.
Make sure you create your HP Recovery Discs or USB Flash Recovery media before modifying or changing ANYTHING... even if you are going to swap in a new HDD.
    You will need to DISABLE "Secure Boot" and maybe ENABLE "Legacy Support" in the "BIOS Secure Boot cofiguration" on the settings page shown below, before you can attempt to install Windows 7;
    or
Some of the information below will vary depending on the HDD being partitioned as MBR or GPT, and/or booting the Windows 7 installation media as Legacy or UEFI.
Additionally, as the hard drive may be partitioned as GPT, you may have to boot the computer using the "UEFI - CD/DVD drive" or "UEFI - USB Flash drive" options in the "F9" boot menu. If "UEFI - CD/DVD drive",  "UEFI - USB Flash drive" or something to that effect doesn't exist in the boot menu, please post a screen shot and/or descibe the listed boot options.
I suggest using Windows 7 SP1 for the best intallation experience. If you need Windows SP1, please see "How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc" to download and create your own Windows 7 SP1 disc. If the DVD refuses to boot as UEFI, you may need to use a USB Flash drive (may require DISABLING "Fast Boot" in the BIOS) as the installation media. Please download the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool to create a Windows 7 SP1 USB Flash drive. Please note that some computers may not recognize a valid UEFI enabled USB Flash drive if it is formated as NTFS and may require a FAT32 formatted USB Flash drive. You should be able to make a FAT32 formatted Windows 7 installation USB Flash drive using Rufus, UNetbootin, Universal USB Installer, or WiNToBootic. I like Rufus, as it has options for "GPT partition scheme for UEFI computer" and "FAT32".
Most of the Windows 7 drivers from the HP Pavilion g7z-2100 CTO Notebook PC Drivers page should work on your computer, however you may need to source some drivers directly from the chipset manufacturers's support sites.
    Please post the Windows Device Manager's "Hardware Ids" for any additional missing or unknown devices as shown in the example below;

  • Can't detect boot device after factory format to new HDD

First off, I have an HP Pavilion G6 that I purchased in December 2012. Yesterday I decided to get a new HDD to upgrade it and start fresh. It's a 1TB SSD+HDD hybrid by Seagate. It installed without a hitch, and I used my HP recovery CDs to do a factory format of the disk.
It finishes, reboots, but instead of rebooting to the HP Windows 8 setup screens, it goes to what looks like Windows 8 safe mode with a box containing the date, time, and it says something along the lines of "HP diagnostics driver installation" with an OK. Clicking that or not makes it disappear, and there's a command prompt bar at the bottom left hand corner of the screen.
The screen changes to an HP screen that begins to install drivers. It finishes, and reboots to a black screen that says "no boot device detected, please install OS."
I ran a check of the drive and it's fine. I swapped my regular drive back in, and it loaded up fine. In fact that's what I'm using right now to type this.
What could be the problem here? The boot order was never changed in the BIOs. If it were the connector failing I doubt it would load the drive that's always been in the computer. Loading up the newly formatted drive in an external enclosure shows that Windows 8 is indeed on it, but on a 93GB partition even though the drive is 1TB.
I'm at a total dead end here and no one seems to know what to do!

  • How to Add a Physical Interface After Installation in Solaris 10

How to Add a Physical Interface After Installation in Solaris 10
    Hi Java Specialist,
I am trying to setup a network interface with the following steps on a new fresh Solaris 10 installation using the instruction titled How to Add a Physical Interface After Installation in Solaris 10 3/05 ONLY from http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19253-01/816-4554/esxhb/index.html:
    1. # ifconfig lo0 plumb up
    2. # ifconfig lo0 10.56.8.101 netmask 255.255.240.0. This was the working Windows DHCP environment prior to installing Solaris
    10 on top of it.
    3. # Added saturn to /etc/hostname.lo0.
    4. # Added 10.56.8.101 to /etc/inet/hosts
    5. # Added 10.56.0.0     255.255.240.0 to /etc/inet/netmasks
    6.# reboot
However, the following errors kept recurring:
svcs –xv …. unable to qualify my own domain name,
    failed with exit status 69.
Any idea on what other steps have I missed? I was hoping to only do step 3 – 6 for the change to apply permanently.
    Many thanks,
    Jack

Hi Java Specialist,... in a Solaris forum?
    1. # ifconfig lo0 plumb upThe loopback connection (your lo0)is NOT a physical interface. There are no hardware components for it. Nor can I think of any reason why it should ever be anything other than the default 127.0.0.1
Use your favorite Internet search site (such as Google, Bing, Yahoo) to learn more about it.
    2. # ifconfig lo0 10.56.8.101 netmask 255.255.240.0. This was the working Windows DHCP environment ...I have no idea how a nonexistent software construct gets a DHCP address in a MS Operating System, unless you are confusing this with the "Microsoft Loopback Adapter" which is an utterly different concept. Again, go see what Google tells you.
    <br>
    <br>
    <br>
... completely unrelated to configuring an IP...
unable to qualify my own domain nameAgain, search the Internet or even search these forums with that string of words.
Go back through your two most recent posts and read the responses again.
They seem to both be on the same topic as this new one -- configuring an IP on something.
How to initialize new IP address on secondary interface permanently
How to change IP address permanently on Solaris 10
When you've done all that, then come back and tell us what you are actually trying to do.

  • I have a MacBook Late 2008 Aluminium and want to increase my storage what should I buy a new HDD or an SSD? I want it to work faster too, can you please recommend specific products that I can consider

I have a MacBook Late 2008 Aluminium which has 160GB currently. I want more storage and to speed up my computer. What should I get HDD or a SSD?
Also can people recommend specific products that are compatible, what are my options?

If you have a cable that connects and external HDD to the MBP, it will do.  If it is something like this, an  enclosure will not be needed for the swap:
An enclosure allows you to use your old HDD for storage or backup purposes.  The cable will not.
Here are instructions as to how the swap can be performed using DISK UTITY.  Substitute You cable for the enclosure in same:
INSTALLING A NEW HDD IN A MBP
    1. Make certain that you have backed up all of your important data.
    2. You will need a HDD enclosure.  One with a USB connection will do.  A 9 pin Firewire is better.
    3. Install your new drive in the enclosure and connect it to your MBP.
    4. Open DISK UTILITY>ERASE.  From the left hand column drag the new drive into the 'Name' field.  Make sure that the format is 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)'.  Click on the 'Erase' button.
    5. Click on the 'Restore' button (on top).  Drag the old drive into the 'Source' field and the new drive into the 'Destination'  field.  Click on the 'Restore' button on the bottom right hand corner.
Depending upon the amount of data you are transferring, this may take a couple hours or more.  A Firewire will speed up the transfer.  This will result in both drives having identical information on them.
    6. After the data transfer has completed, you may swap the drives.  Start the MBP and you have finished the installation.  The initial boot may take a bit longer than you are accustomed to, but that is normal.
    7. When you are satisfied that the new hard drive if functioning properly, you can erase the old drive and use it for any needs that you may have.
If there is any confusion on your part, post back.
    Ciao.

  • Imovie and a new HDD

I have just added a new HDD to give my macbook more capacity. The istore did the installation for me. All looks fine until i tried to open imovie '08. It wont open because it comes up with a notification "imovie requires quicktime 7.6.0 or later".
I try to update my quicktime but it comes up with a notification "This software requires Mac OS X 10.6.3 or newer."
    I currently have 10.5.8.
Before i put the new HDD in i was using imovie with no issue at all.
    What has happened?
Please help me? I have a deadline of Monday to finish an imovie project.
    Why is it never easy?!!

  • How to make Recovery Partition in my new HDD (Win8.1)

    I already re-install my Win8 with usb.
But after finish the installation (I choose Fully Clean in my new HDD), why there is no Recovery Partition like my old HDD (original HDD)?
how to make a Recovery Partition in my new HDD?
    Thx

    Creating the recovery partition
Right-click the start orb, and start 'Disk Management'.
Shrink the C: drive by let's say 20-30GB.
Then create a new Partition and assign the R: label to it and name it RECOVERY.
Then open command prompt as administrator and type: 'recimg /createimage <directory>',
In this case: 'recimg /createimage R:\' to save it on the new partition.
This step may consume a lot of time.
Now we need to register the newly created recovery image: 'recimg /setcurrent <directory>'
    'recimg /setcurrent R:\'
    Voila you are done.
    Restoring from recovery partition
You may want to use this restoring method by default, because it is the easiest way to do so if your recovery partition is still intact. If not, look at the other recovery methods to see which suits you best. This is usually the way you reset or refresh your Windows installation if you purchase a computer from a brand like Lenovo instead of building one yourself
Press the Windows-key + C to open the charms bar or swipe in from the right.
    Click Settings.
    Click Change PC Settings.
Click Update & Recovery in the menu on the left.
    Click Recovery.
If all your documents are safe and sound in your user folder, you can use Refresh your PC without affecting files. However I still recommend taking a back-up... If you want to do a complete reinstallation of Windows and also clean your user folder in the process then choose Remove everything and reinstall Windows.

  • Migration from OLD HDD to LARGER NEW HDD

Hi experts, I am deciding to upgrade my G4 cube HDD from 20G to 120G. The point is that how can I migrate my entire OS 10.3.9 ,application and other personal stuffs to new HDD? What method can I apply to or is there any possible way to reduce my time on re-installing OS and heaps of applications? Many thanks!
    PowerMac G4 Cube   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Get a Firewire enclosure for your old hard drive. When you remove the drive install it in the Firewire enclosure. Install the new drive. Boot from your OS X installer disc and use Disk Utility to partition and format the new drive. Connect the Firewire drive and boot the computer from the external drive by restarting and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the icon for the external drive and click on the large right arrow button. After your computer boots from the external drive open Disk Utility and clone the external drive to the new internal drive:
How to Clone Using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the backup or destination volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (journaled, if available) and click on the Erase button. This step can be skipped if the destination has already been freshly erased.
    4. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    5. Select the backup or destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Select the startup or source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
    8. Select the destination drive on the Desktop and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. At the bottom in the Ownership and Permissions section be sure the box labeled "Ignore Permissions on this Volume" is unchecked. Verify the settings for Ownership and Permissions as follows: Owner=system with read/write; Group=admin with read/write; Other with read-only. If they are not correct then reset them.
For added precaution you can boot into safe mode before doing the clone.
When the clone has completed quit DU and open the Startup Disk preference. Select the internal system volume and click the Restart button.

  • New HDD for Inspiron Duo

Hello, my Inspiron Duo's HDD is defective and I can't recover it. I have a new HDD but I don't know how to install Windows in it, as the Duo BIOS doesn't support boot by an USB device and it doesn't have a CD/DVD-reader. How can I replace the HDD and install the OS in it?
