Installation problem on Solaris
I am trying to install sun one 7.0 on Solaris 8. The install is failing with this error:
ERROR - library load failed with following error: Can't load library: /opt/SUNWappserver7/lib/libinstallCore.so
INFO - End core server uninstallation
anyone know what causes this??
cheers
Looks like Solaris package installation failed and installer reverted to uninstallation sequence. For low level pkgadd log please check /var/sadm/install/logs/Sun_ONE_Application_Server_install.B<timestamp> file (timestamp is date and time of your installation attempt in mmddHHMM format).
Look for any errors in this file. Most likely thing that could have happened is that the installation of Java Help (SUNWjhrt) package failed because you didn't have existing package based J2SE installation on the system. If that's the case, workaround is to either preinstall package based J2SE installation or to selected option to install bundled J2SE that comes with application server.

Gavin,
Glad you're sorted. Can you confirm that it is 4.10.903 you are using
(not 4.00.903)? I'm concerned if this installation problem is still
present in the later version.

Bill - that seems to have done the trick! the installation is now running.
Thanks so much for this.I am running a pair of Sun Ray 170's on my desk
here at home mated to an E220R. I am hoping to use Tarantella to be able
to access and run apps on a win3k server in the same rack.

Gavin,
This looks like a known problem with TTA 4.00.903 and some Solaris
patches which were distributed at about the same time. However, you say
you're using 4.10.903, and as far as I know the problem should be fixed
in that version.
You could try the workaround described in
http://www.tarantella.com/documentation/sgd/ee/4.0/install.html - search
for "tta_pkgadd" on that page and follow the instructions given there.

Installation problems with Solaris 8 on Intel
Howdy,
I am having some problem with my installation of Solaris 8 on Intel. I am installing the system on a P133 (Asus TX97 motherboard). When I first start the installation and perform the system scan I get the following error:
The PnP ISA: IDE Controller programable device was unable to be programmed.
This could be caused by two possible reasons:
- Lack of resouces available
- There is a conflict with the following already-existing device: 8086,7111 - Bus Mastering IDE Controller
When I bring up the View/Edit device settings and I scroll to the IDE controller there is an ! mark beside the PCI IDE controller. The controler is specifying: Bus 0, device: 1, function: 1 port 1F0-1F7, 3F6, 170-177, 376, E000-E00F, 0 IRQ 14, 15
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this conflict? I tried removing the PCI IDE interface and then installing a ISA IDE interfact (for IRQ: 14, IRQ 15 automatically put a PnP IDE controller there). This seemed to resolve the conflict but then I received a: No Bootable devices have been found.
If anyone can help out with how to resolve the conflict, or what the No Bootable Devices have been found error it would be greatly appreciated.
Currently there is a partition set up with NT on it, but I wish to basically get rid of everything on the HD and install Solaris on it. FYI, when I check the HD's in NT it mentions I/0: 1F0-1F7 IRQ 14 and also I/O 170-177 IRQ 15.
Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Regards,
S.When I close down Solais in the CDE I am taken back to the logon screen
and I turn the PC off.Don't do that. If you simply turn off the PC, the OS has no chance to
write back cached / modified disk data back to the HDD - this is also the
reason why solaris has to check the filesystems on the next boot and apparently
has to repair filesystem defects.
What you have to do is shutdown the machine, before you can power it off.
Login as user "root" and use the command
init 5
or
halt
"init 5" will shutdown system services, by executing commands from
/etc/rc0.d/K* with argument "stop". Then it'll sync all modified disk blocks to
the HDD, kills all remaining processes and unmounts all filesystems. In this
state it's safe to power off the machine!
"halt" is a quick-and-dirty shutdown. It does not stop system services (the
/etc/rc0.d/K* commands are not run). But, it syncs all modified disk blocks
to the HDD, kills all processes and unmounts all filesystems. "init 5" is preferred,
especially if you have services like a database server running on the machine,
which needs to be cleanly shutdown. On the other hand, with a default solaris
installation and no extra services, a simple "halt" should be OK.
Btw. if multiple users are logged in on the machine, you should also have a look
at the shutdown(1M) command. "shutdown" sends warnings to the logged in
users that the machine is about to be shut down, ... -

Kalpesh MehtaI had similar problems several months ago. I suspect this happens when host pc does not have floppy drive(or bios somehow misreports it) as it was in my case. Solaris 8 seems to work fine in the same environment, so I keep using it for now. Possible workaround might be to use DCA from Solaris 8: Installation of Sol9 started just fine after I entered Sol8 DCA and asked it to boot from Sol9 CD.
Hope this problem will be fixed in subsequent Sol9 releases.

How can I solve this error?Cannot I install SAP 4.7 SR1 on Solaris 10 - ORacle 9.2.0.7?Is the problem about SAP profile parameters or Solaris Kernel parameters

Installation problem with Solaris 2.6 on E220R server
Dear Sir/Madam,
I got the problem to install Solaris 2.6 on the new E220R server and
would appreciate if someone can give me some hint/trick how to fix it.
Firsly I boot the machine using the OPERATING ENVIRONMENT INSTALLATION
CD and then selected Solaris 2.6 and from there I used the Solaris 2.6
CD to install.
The installation went OK however after reboot the OS complained that it
could NOT open the "kernel/unix".
Please send me a copy of your answer to
[email protected]
Thanks in advance,
Trung NguyenThe response is "/platform/sun4u/kernel/unix".
You will be asked another question, but you can just hit enter in response.
Of course, this solution begs the issue of why it happens in the first place. -
UCM 10gR3 installation problem on Solaris
Hi,
I have a problem installing Oracle Content Server 10gR3. When I run the setup script:
*$ cd <path>/UCM/ContentServer/solaris-x86/*
*$ ./setup.sh*
I get the following error:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Installer
I am running Solaris 10 on VirtualBox, and I have Oracle Database 10gR2 Installed. JDK 1.5.0_20 is installed with Solaris, but I have tried different JDK's, with no use.
I tried setting the CLASSPATH environment variable to ".;/usr/jdk/latest/lib;/usr/jdk/latest/jre/lib", and running the script again, but I got the same result.
Any Ideas?
Thanks in Advance.

ISW Installation problem on Solaris SPARC
We are currently running JES4 directory server version 5.2 patch 5.
We wanted to test a JES5 installation so we could install Identity
Synchronization for Windows (ISW) and see if it would resolve the
problem we have keeping our Directory Server (JES4) and Active
Directory (AD) servers synchronized.
We did a clean install of JES5 with Directory Server 6.2. Prior to the
installation of ISW, we migrated the data from our production JES4
system and loaded that data into the newly installed and configured
JES5 system. That all went fine.
Then we then tried installing ISW, but the installation failed during the
portion of the install process where the administration server is
installed.
Has anyone seen this problem, or can you tell us any gotchas? The Solaris*.bin file should have unpacked everything and installed all the JDK in a directory off of the directory where you ran the .bin file. Inside this subdirectory will be a bin subdirectory where the java executables, etc are installed.

Installation problem on Solaris 10
Dear All,
We are trying to install j2sdk 1.4.2_13 on solaris server zone. I have downloaded j2sdk-1_4_2_13-nb-5_0-solsparc-ml.bin
But when I try to execute this:
#./j2sdk-1_4_2_13-nb-5_0-solsparc-ml.bin
It gives me error: The installer is unable to run in graphical mode. Try running the installer with the -console or -silent flag
Tried with -console:
The wizard cannot continue because of the following error: Invalid command line option: console is not supported (10
01) (403)
WARNING: could not delete temporary file /tmp/ismp001/2599368
WARNING: could not delete temporary file /tmp/ismp001/6183226
WARNING: could not delete temporary file /tmp/ismp001/1222839
Then tried with -silent:
This time command just completed w/o any output at all.
Please suggest what can I do?
regards, Sean.Dear Siddhesh,
Thanks for your reply.
I tried using X Manager GUI for my Solaris. But when I double click the j2sdk-1_4_2_13-nb-5_0-solsparc-ml.bin file to run it, it simply denies saying:
The filename "j2sdk-1_4_2_13-nb-5_0-solsparc-ml.bin" indicates that this file is of type "Unknown type". The contents of the file indicate that the file is of type "Shell script". If you open this file, the file might present a security risk to your system.
Do not open the file unless you created the file yourself, or received the file from a trusted source. To open the file, rename the file to the correct extension for "Shell script", then open the file normally. Alternatively, use the Open With menu to choose a specific application for the file.
Also /tmp has full authorizations:
drwxrwxrwt 7 root sys 557 Jun 24 08:34 tmp
I dont have Hummingbird for X11 forwarding with this client. Do I have any other option??

Sun Studio 11 Installation Problem on Solaris 9

I am installing Sun Studio11 on Solaris 9 SPARC Platform using -nodisplay option. The command line output is showing as installation is success.
But when I see the install log file I am seeing the following errors.

9i installation problem on Solaris
I have had a good deal of trouble installing 9i on a Solaris machine...
At the end of the installation process, the following issue occurs:
Oracle DBCA hangs without an error at the point "Creating and starting
the Oracle Instance" - The CPU maxes out, with little or no disk access.
(I let this run for 14 hours, and it never ended).
Running the CreateDB.sql file from the sqlplus command line shows that the
CPU maxing occurs on the line
sql> startup nomount pfile="$pfile_location"Hi,
On the solaris box you are allowed straight in as your account is a member of the dba group and no password file is necessary. When you connect in from a remote machine there can be no local os authetication and oracle has to rely on the password file for this purpose. These are the steps you will need to follow to get the connection to work.
1) Log on to the solaris box as an account in the dba group (usually oracle).
2) cd $ORACLE_HOME/dbs
3) orapwd file=orapwYOUR_SID_HERE password=your_sys_password
4)Shutdown your database
5) Set remote_login_passwordfile=exclusive in your init.ora/spfile
6) Startup the database
7) now try and log in using sqlplus remotely - it should work
Cheers,

Forms & reports 6i installation problem On Solaris 5.8
Following is the error i got while installing the product in Oracle home. The Oracle HOme already has Oracle Server 8.1.6. I am just installing Developer6i along with Oracle Server 8.1.6. The Installer Analyzes the dependencies and then gives this error.
'rdbms' software is not available in the current distribution source and has not been installed.
You must obtain and install 'rdbms' software from some other source
Note: You may also get this error if the Installer registry file has been overwritten

Can anyone throw light on this issue ?
Thanks in advance.Make sure you are using the Oracle version 11.1 (11g R1) as stated in the supoported platforms guide.
What version of Solaris is this? For Solaris 9 you need libc 112874-16 or higher and C++ run-time 111711-11 or higher.
For Solaris 10 you need the SUNWlibC package.
Hope that helps
