INstallation\Update Log?

New to Macs, so bear with me. Is there an installation\Update log some where on the Mac? I got a notice this morning about several updates (two applied to FCE HD, but others did not). But I'm not sure if I really updated or not as the only option after the update was process was to Quit the updater.
I should have made notes or printed the available updates but was in the middle of something else when I got the notification and just proceeded with the update process. By the time my conf call was done so were the update - or at least I think they completed.
Any way to see what was updated and when?

Hi,
Yes, there are logs for, effectively, everything. You can access the logs from within the Console utility which is located in your /Applications/Utilities folder.
With regards Software updates, you can also view which updates have been applied by firing up System Preferences, selecting Software Update and then clicking on the Installed Updates tab.

    i previously updated from 10.5.8 to 10.6.
    since then the software update history as seen in LIBRARY/LOGS/Software Update.log is not visible anymore in the Software Update Panel. installing rosetta gives that feature back, but that is not my intention.
    tonight after updating itunes 8.2.1 to 9.0 this installation was visible again in the Software Update Panel.
    i was wondering were 10.6 keeps this info, as the "old 10.5 Software Update.log" is still on its place but not altered anymore.

    It is now a text based xml file found here:
    /Library/Receipts/InstallHistory.plist
    Many useful details are tracked in this file. However, Software Update chooses not to display any non-apple or optional-apple "installs" when showing it's preference pane -- even though they're included in the plist.
    That's why I manually maintain the former '/Library/Logs/Software Update.log' which is still visible under the console application.

  • Software installer update caused macbook pro/snow leopard to not start

    I ran the recent software installer update; since then my macbook pro--running 10.6.8--won't get past the blue screen.  i tried verifying/repairing permissions and even reinstalling from the disk but it tells me simply that reinstalling from the disk cannot be done.
    The only other relevant information I can think to share is the fact that my harddrive is partitioned with bootcamp, running Win7 64-bit.

    Had the same problem with my Early 2006 Core Duo iMac and Starting up in Safe Mode ended up being the fix.

    1. Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    2. Press the power button.
    3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
    4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
    In this case starting up into Safe Mode will take a lot longer than normal, so be patient and let it finish uninterrupted.
    Likewise after Safe Mode, starting up into normal mode is also going to take a lot longer than normal, so once again be patient and let it finish uninterrupted.

  • Delete entries in "Installed Updates" log

    Is there anyway to delete entries in the "Installed software updates" log?
    I want to reinstall a firmware patch but although the patch downloads and says it has installed successfully it doesn't actually update anything... However, it shows up in the "installed updates" log.
    Any one any ideas how to delete entries in the "Installed software updates" log?

    Why do you want to delete an entry from the log?
    What do you think that will achieve?
    How do you know it doesn't actually update anything?
    Why do you think you need to reinstall the patch?
    If you reinstall the patch but it doesn't need to be reinstalled
    then I would not expect anything to change.

  • Microsoft Office Update Log -- Really quick question!

    Hey,
    I have an log file entitled, "MAU 1.1.2 Update Log" in my root hard drive folder.
    Probably a dumb question, but can I delete that log safely, it just looks stupid sitting there not serving really any purpose right? Like it's only 16 KB but still, I just wanna get rid of it.
    Should I be alright to delete it? It's just a log file.

    The number leeds me to believe its from an old update. If you haven't done so you should download and install the 11.3.4 Office 2004 patch.

  • "Unable to update, log in with account that purchased app"

    Hi
    I get this error: "Unable to update, log in with account that purchased app" more or less, when trying to update apps on my other macbook pro. I *am* logged in with the account that purchased the apps; I ONLY purchase apps from apple's app store (iOS and MacOS) with one account and one set of banking details. I *do not* have more than one account with apple AT ALL.
    Please can someone at apple remedy this bug?
    It seem related to the fact that I upgraded the hard disk on the machine that is complaining; it seems to no longer recognise the machine in question. It allows me to purchase and install new apps, but NOT upgrade/update.

    Ok, here's the latest update on this problem.
    I tried to open an app that had been downloaded and I tried to do an in-app purchase (specifically, the FreeMemory app upgrade). Since it was a new hard disk, the computer asked me to authenticate the app against the app store; in other words, the anti-piracy thing kicked in. Then, when I gave my MAS password, the MAS asked me to verify my billing details. Thereafter, it allowed me not only to run the app and do the in-app purchase, BUT it stopped complaining about updates not being permitted with this account.
    So maybe this is a bug Apple needs to pay attention to: viz., if the hard disk is new and you think the app store details are faked, ask the user to verify billing details straight away rather than leaving them in the dark as to why they think they're logged in, but they're not authenticated fully, and wondering why they can't update.
    I will monitor the situation, and if any further problems come up, I will report them here, but for now, this seems to have fixed it.

    Hi Experts,
    I have a requirement where in i need to create processing logs for a output message type of a delivery using custom program. So basically for a delivey a output type will be triggered , furhter i will develop a custom program which i will run from se38 and update logs. I even need to update teh status of the output message type.
    Any inputs on this would be very useful.

    many possible ways...
    1. create a report which queries table NAST for required output type and run the report in background for every 2 mins or 5 mins.
    2. you can write it in the driver program for the output message.

  • OS X Installer Update

    I bought my Wallstreet off EBay. Very happy with it. It came with 10.1.5 including the disks for 10.0 and 10.1 and a disk with .dmg files for security updates, installer updater and 10.1.5
    The only problem is, to install stuff using the .pkg files I decompressed I must first update the installer. It will load the installer updater .pkg file, but it will ask me for a volume on which to install the installer update, then show me all my volumes grayed out.
    Suggestions?

    The classic issue? Do you mean the startup disk problem? Kinda. It works sometimes, and sometimes is freezes. Takes patience. It won't work with extensions off, and it won't work immediately after a forced restart. So, yeah, sorta.

After it’s downloaded, it will relaunch and the new CC applications will show up when you sign-in.   • 10.5.7 Update not showing in Installed Updates log

    Hello everyone!
    Not sure if this is some type of problem or not but I'm checking with you guys before I do something drastic like reinstall Leopard or something.
    I installed the 10.5.7 update yesterday on my iBook G4. After I installed it, the computer hanged only showing my desktop and dock (no menu bar). After a while, I manually powered off the iBook, turned it on and saw it boot, restart, and boot back up. I updated Safari 4 beta after that. Then I checked the Installed Updates log on System Preferences and it showed the Safari update but not the 10.5.7 update. I thought there might be something wrong so I downloaded the Combo Update, repaired permissions and installed the update again. No hang this time, it restarted but it did do that boot-restart-boot again thing again. Tried it twice now and the 10.5.7 update is still not showing in the Installed Updates log even though in About This Mac it does say I'm running 10.5.7.
    Is that normal? Are others having this issue?

  • Snow Leopard software update log

    I have enclosed a capture of my Snow leopard update software update log found in the "Apple menu" "system preferences"
    You will noticed that Itunes did not have a version and never updated on my system. Can any one tell me what the update called "MBP17" is ?

    Is your MacBook Pro a 17" model. Is it probably just some hardware specific module making a verbose print in your log as you ran that slew of updates. Note that it precedes an SMC update, so it first 'reads' your particular hardware to make the correct SMC update and that print is just a relic of that event. That's my guess.

    These files are just some temporary file created by using the system. You could delete them manually via disk cleanup:

  • Can't install installer update

    hi everyone, my beige g3 died, so i got another off ebay, it arrived in a shocking condition. however with a new pram battery,new 40gb hd in 3 partitions, memory at 416mb, 9.2.2. on 2nd partition, 10.1 on 1st partition, its humming along except i cannot install the installer update in order to do further updates, the disk is greyed out. i did have it on once but had to do a clean install on 1st partition. i have a retail copy of tiger and have tried to install from 9.2 with xpostfacto but it won't have it, tried several versions, there is a ! next to the install disk and sometimes on all the partitions don't know what this means....

    thanks for the replies, its funny isn't it how one can do something then next time you can't. i installed 10 on 1st 5.5 gb partition, 9.2 on next. took it up to 10.1.5 but had start up issues so did a clean install on 1st partition, and am now stuck in 10.1 because i need installer update to continue. so stuck!! also i want to get rid of all that and put panther or tiger on, now i'm caught with no dvd drive so i took apart my lacie ext. and put that one in and it works fine but i can't boot from it. i am now surrounded by dismantled things drives hard drives a spare imac for fire wire but you can't target disk the beige to the imac. i have a beautiful g5 imac sitting downstairs will some one explain why i have bought another beige?
