Installation Woes

i am having problems on a development box getting 9i Lite to install...wondering if anyone could offer some advice.
i have a 9i db installed and running on the machine (win 2k sp4) where i am attempting to install the mobile server. however, after entering the "Hostname, Port, and Net Service Name" in step 4 of the installation guide, i get an error stating "The specified key was not found while trying to GetValue," with the options to "Help, Continue, Retry, or Cancel." i have no idea why this is happening, and it is preventing me from getting this box up.
any help would be much appreciated!
tia,
matt

Most likely caused by wrong version of JDK. Please use
JDK 1.3

  • Installation Woes on Solaris 10

I have looked thru all the issues posted so far and I have worked past those, my issue occurs during the installation of the Oracle JVM:
The installation is at 36% when I hit this error:
ORA-00604: error occured at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-04031: unable to allocate 4096 bytes of shared memory.("java pool",.....)
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_JAVA", line 222
    ORA-06512: at line 1
I've created a project for the oracle user and assigned a value for max shared memory:
    # id -p oracle
    uid=102(oracle) gid=1000(dba) projid=100(oracle)
    # cat /etc/project | grep oracle
    oracle:100::::project.max-shm-memory=(priv,536870912,deny)
I then activated this setting dynamically:
    #prctl -n project.max-shm-memory -v 512mb -r -i project oracle
Even though I shouldn't have to reboot after this change, I went ahead an rebooted anyway.
I am trying to install 10.2.0.1 64-bit on Solaris 10 with latest recommended patch cluster as of 13-Jan-05.
    Any ideas?
    Thx,
    CC

Well, I am using scripts generated by dbca, surely those allocate enough for itself to function?
Also, under Solaris 10, memory parameters are no longer pulled from /etc/system.

  • New installation woes - SQLDeveloper on Oracle Linux x64 and Oracle 11g XE

Note that as an experienced Oracle developer in enterprise environments running MS Windows OS, I am familiar with SQLDeveloper for Windows. I don't have a lot of experience with Linux however. I don't find it intimidating, I just don't have a lot of accumulated knowledge.
I have recently been trying to set up a development environment on my Windows7 Professional x64 laptop.
    1. Installed Oracle VBox
    2. Installed Oracle Linux 5.2 inside the VBox (because Oracle 11g XE is not certified on 64 bit Windows, needed to go with a Linux OS)
    3. Installed Oracle DB 11.2 XE
    4. Installed JDK as instructed in the SQLDeveloper release notes for Linux x64
    5. Installed SQLDeveloper 3.1.07.42-1
No apparent issues with any of the installations.
Problem : I can run SQL Plus from the command line, but when I click on the icon for SQLDeveloper, nothing happens. No error messages, nothing else.
Question #1 : Unsure how to debug/troubleshoot this. Will read through the installation and release notes for SQLDeveloper, but any suggestions would be welcome.
Question #2 : Could this be due to an issue with the JDK installation? It appeared to be successful (no obvious issues) but I can't see anything in the Oracle Linux menu system that tells me the JDK was installed successfully. How can I confirm that the JDK installation was successful?

    >
The Linux x64 version of SQLDeveloper doesn't come bundled with JDK. There is a version of JDK recommended, with an advisory to install it before installing SQLDeveloper. This I did, with apparent success. I guess I'll have to install the JDK again and check my Java versions afterwards. Thanks.
    >
I don't know what JDK you downloaded since you didn't say. What version was it? Post the link.
I find it hard to believe that the JDK version recommended was 1.4.2 since that is an ANCIENT version of Java, you have to hunt to even find it for download and most importantly the sql developer main download page clearly announces what version of Java is needed.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/downloads/index.html
    >
    JDK Support
Oracle SQL Developer 3.1 is shipped with JDK1.6.0_11. However, you can connect to and use any JDK 1.6.0_11 or above. To use an existing JDK, download the zip files listed below "with JDK already installed."
    >
As you can see you need JDK 1.6.0_11 or above.
If the version you say was recommended was actually 1.4.2 then that is an error; post the details so the developers can get that error fixed.
I don't know what is on your system and can only go by the information you provide
    >
    4. Installed JDK as instructed in the SQLDeveloper release notes for Linux x64
    java version "1.4.2"
    >
You either downloaded version 1.4.2, which seems unlikely, or your Linux included 1.4.2 and it is being used when you try to launch sql developer.
Perhaps your system now has multiple versions of Java on it but the version being used by sql developer is the wrong one. If so that is the issue you need to resolve.

  • Enterprise Manager installation woes

Hi experts, I need some help desperately...
I've had a working 9.2 system for some time now but noticed that Enterprise Manager wouldn't work. It would lock up when trying to connect to the database in standalone (log in standalone then select database from navigator tree, log in form pops up but then seems to die at that point - no action after hitting OK).
So, rather than spend countless hours trying to fix it I decided to upgrade to 10. The installation of 10 would always stop at 21% while extracting files - no clue in the log file as it just said extracting file XXX. I then installed the database by selecting a Custom install and installing each component. All but the Enterpise Manager installed (stopped at 99% while extracting files).
Thinking, no problems, I'll get on with what I need to do, I then installed HTTP server (all this to get Application Express 2.2...). After installing HTTP server and finding that I don't think it will do what I need, I uninstalled it. Now the listener service is gone AND I still can't install Enterprise Manager.
Any ideas? (my patience is wearing a bit thin as I've been at this for 4 straight days now and my database is not up...) How do I get Enterprise Manager to install? How do I get the listner to install? (I've used lsnrctl but the error message is 193 meaning tnslsnr.exe is not a valid Win32 application)
    OS is Windows 2000
    Cameron

Well, i would suggest to star form the scratch rather then wasting time on hit and trial. Ra-install your OS if you can, If you can't then re install oracle software. As far as liostener is concerned, first un install the oracle net components and then re-install them on ther server and try to create a nre listener and run it.
For enter prise manager, install oracle 9,2 client in another home(administrative client) and then run OEM from that client home if its not wowkring from server's home

  • Installation woes with 2008-04-RC & 2008-03

    Well, here goes.
Firstly, I installed 2007-08.  I assumed this was the most recent, as it was on the main page and all.  Install went fine except for the network card, which I eventually fixed by grabbing new drivers (r8168).  I tried to install some basic packages and update with pacman, but this turned out to be a disaster, leading me onto 2008-04-RC.
Burnt 2008-04-RC, inserted the disc, and found that it stuck on Udev (can't remember exactly what, but it's that line relating to Udev on boot).  Waited ample time and tried multiple times, but it just wouldn't have it.  I went to try 2008-03.
I could get to the installer with 2008-03.  Trouble is, settings were being saved in <temp dir>/etc/.  As such, the files were empty and it also turned out to be a disaster.
I'd really love to install 2008-04-RC (by the way, does this include r8168 drivers?  r8169 didn't do it for me), but I've been at this all day with no success.  I'm very close to going over to Gentoo, despite remembering how much I loved Arch.
Please, please, could someone help me?
    Thanks.

OK, just tried 2008.03 and I was unable to compile the r8168 drivers on it.  Any clues as to why this might be?  I couldn't save a log, it got cut short to the following:

  • Adobe CS4 School Installation Woes

    Hi,
I'm a student at Brown University. I  downloaded the 5-part installation for CS4 from the school website and  have been plagued by installation problems since.
First, the  error message "Session has dependencies that cannot be satisifed"  appered. I used MS Windows Installer, Your Un-installer, and CS4/5  Cleaner to remove all the parts I've installed. Tried this for 3 - 4  times and still got the error message.
Eventually I got a different error  message: "Installer database is corrupt". Tried uninstalling everything  (including removal of CAPS file) and re-installing, but was faced with  the System Profile Check being stuck at 90%. Did the uninstallation all  over again and it's back to the  "Installer database is corrupt"  message. I've also tried deleting the regsvr32.dll file using the  command prompt, as recommended by other forums.
In all, I must have gone  through the cycle about 10 times, all to no avail.
I've read  through the forums and tried all the remedies I could Google, and it  seems I've come across pretty much every single installation problem  raised by others. Does anyone has any clue what I should do?
    System  specs:
    OS:  Windows 7 Home Premium
    RAM: 3GB
    Thanks!

You will need to set your language code to the version on your CD - en-US or en-International etc.

  • Illustrator 10 installation woes

    Hi,
I just installed Illustrator 10 on my windows 7 x64 PC. The installation went smoothly & s/n accepted without error messages. Unfortunately, when I go to run the program, I see the initial splash screen for a split second, and then nothing. The program isn't running.
I was assured by the seller of this disc that it isn't installed anywhere else, and has been removed from her PC. Does this sound like a licensing issue or a technical problem?
    Any advice appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • Client Installation woes

    Hello,
during BPC client installation we have found a couple errors which we cannot easily trace back to known procedures:
    1) DotNet Installer crash during installation. No alert message related to dotNet Framework 1.1 absence were reported;
    2) Graphical "difficulties" after installation: for example the dialog box for Application Set/Application selection comes cropped. The "OK"/"Cancel" buttons are fully (or partially) cropped out. It seems that dialog is web-based, and still cannot be resized.
OBS: Could client PC resolution be such a factor? We're not talking about extreme resolution either - regular users with 800x600 or 1024x768 are having this problem.
Could anybody shed us some light? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Alwin,
Regarding the DotNetInstaller error: thanks for the suggestion, however the IT team in charge of bpc-client installation reports that 1.1 has already been reinstalled, yet the error persists. They're puzzled, any help would be appreciated.

  • Final Cut Pro Installation Woes

I hope this is the correct forum for this question. I have today received my Final Cut Studio upgrade via the Apple Universal Binary programme. When I try to install the upgrade I get an error message claiming I don't have enough privilages to perform this installation. It then installs the software but when I try to run any of the programs my Mac asks for the serial number and again claims I do not have the correct privilages. I am the administrator on my system (indeed the only user) and I have repaired permissions using disk utility - but this has not corrected the problem.
    Can anyone help?

    The same here...
I just deleted some preference and support files, following as a guideline the following article from Apple on how to unistall Final Cut Express (could not find anything about Final Cut Pro):
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301182
and now all apps in Final Cut Studio work properly...
    Hope it helps...

  • App installation woes

I'm a total Mac newb, so bare with me...
I just got a MacBook Pro, updated w/ all the latest patches, but for some reason I'm unable to download and install Windows Media 9 for OS X. The file downloads with an .sitx extention, and when I try to doubleclick it, it opens my printer options. Is there some file association wrong with this, or have I just missed the mark on installing this application?
    Thanks,
    Jason

    Jason,
First, I recommend re-downloading the file to make sure that it wasn't damaged somehow. You can find the file at Microsoft Mactopia and it should be either a file that ends in .bin or .hqx.
Depending on your web browser, it may either simply download or download and unstuff. If it unstuffs, you'll have a file called "Windows Media Installer" in your download location; if not, you'll have to double-click on the .bin or .hqx file in order to have Stuffit Expander unstuff the file.
If that's where you hit your problem--when you double-click--then you should try this: instead of double-clicking the compressed file, right-click or control-click (depending on your mouse) and choose "Open With" option; if Stuffit Expander does not show up on the list of applications, you'll have to choose "Other" and navigate to it on your hard drive. It is likely in the "Utilities" folder inside "Applications."

  • BT Infinity Installation Problem

I know I won't be the first person to post about installation woes with BT Infinity (and probably not), but here goes:
I placed an order for a BT phone line and BT Infinity 2 at the end of July. The activation date was 13 August, and originally the BT engineer was scheduled to come to our flat for installation on that day as well. The day after I placed the order, I attempted to reschedule the installation date for 11 August, as neither my fiancee or I could be at the flat on 13 August. The online scheduling tool confirmed the new date and everything seem fine. About a week or so later, the order management page was updated to indicate that the engineer did not need to come to our flat and could complete all the work at the exchange.
The activation date came and went, but neither the phone line or the broadband worked. On midnight 14 August, my order was updated on the order management page to reflect that the order had been cancelled. This of course made no sense. I phoned up BT's customer service line at about 09:00 on 14 August, and after speaking to a frankly quite incompetent individual, we managed after about an hour to establish that the order cancellation was BT's fault. Apparently, BT's offline team had been notified by Openreach that they could not meet the new installation date of 11 August. Instead of notifying me about this, the BT team member cancelled my order! What is worse, they did not notify me that the order had been cancelled. Instead, the order management page indicated that the order was still progressing and that the BT engineer need not visit my premises. This was completely the wrong information. Somehow, I had to wait until after my activation date to first be notified about the cancellation.
Needless to say, I was furious. I was then told that I needed to place a new order. I rebutted this, indicating that it was BT's error and that they should correct it. Placing a new order would result in another two week delay before installation and possibly double charging. I asked to speak to the order management team member's supervisor. I was informed that he was busy and could not speak to me at that point in time. I again reiterated that this was unacceptable. The team member scheduled a callback from the supervisor for between 12:15 and 14:15.
    No-one ever called back.
I phoned BT customer services back at about 14:20, and spoke to a very helpful individual (who I think was named Dave, but I can't be sure). He was very apologetic. He created a new, identical order with an installation and activation date of 28 August, and arranged a callback with a manager so that the order could be expedited and the activation date could be brought forward. That callback was meant to happen by 20:00 on the same day.
    No-one ever called back.
This morning (15 August), I phoned BT customer services at about 09:30, and spoke to a somewhat rude, but still helpful individual. He arranged for the BT line to be activated within 24 hours. He also filled out a form to expedite the installation and activation of BT Infinity to next week Tuesday (19 August).
This is where I am at the moment. I am really not sure if Openreach will approve an installation date that is so soon. And if they reject it, I am not sure if my order will be cancelled again. This has been an incredibly frustraing, time-consuming procedure (and I realise other people on this forum have had it worse). Hopefully it all works out, but I am not holding my breath. Will this post with the outcome.

Good afternoon traveller10 and welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately there have been other posts on this forum of a similar nature. It also appears that it is all too common for call backs not to be made. Broadband cannot be installed without a phone line (obviously) and it appears that it is normally 2 different engineers (and probably 2 different departments) one of which deals with the new phone line, and the other that installs the broadband !!!
I have notified the moderators of your problem, and hopefully they will post an invite on this forum in order for you to contact them. They can take 2 - 3 days to reply, but they take your problem on, on a personal basis and have a VERY good record of sorting out problems such as yours......
