Can you elaborate how you installed ? I suspect that you chose non-networked option. That however does not explain the problem you are seeing. I suspect that your BIOS setting has some ACPI setting that is powering the system. Please disable that so that the OS can do it. The X server not starting is another separate issue. What version of S10 are you trying to install.

  • Video/LCD config problem with x86 Sol 10 EA

I'm trying to install Sol 10 EA and the video card/screen keeps
defaulting to the minimum LCD size of 720x400,
instead of the configured size of 1280x1024.
The Solaris 10 installation says "VESA No Matching Modes".
If I set it to 640x480 the sunwindows comes up o.k.,
but does not set the LCD, so the LCD goes to the default size
of 720x400. The installation assumes a much larger size, and are
thus truncated, leaving the windows so small it is impossible
    continue the installation.
The NEC manual has no way to manually override the screen size.
    Hardware:
    Asustek A7V400-MX
    NEC LCD71V 1280x1024
    'kdmconfig' shows:
Video Device: XF86-VESA VESA-compatible video cards
    Screen Size: 17-inch (43 cm)
    Resolution/Colors: 1024x768 - 256 colors @ 75Hz
Monitor Type: Plug and Play Mfreq 17 Inch NEC661D (up to 1280x1024 @
The only way to successfully install the system is to use the
Text-Only installer, and 'Bypass & Supress' any attempted usage of
kdmconfig. After installation, if I run kdmconfig, and get the same
problem. I want to be able to run X-Windows in 'init 2' mode.
Now all I can use is the console.
    Any suggestions ?

I have seen this before with a build 63. Is yours b63?
Changing "virtual screen resolution" might help, though it did not do anything for my case.
    "VESA No Matching Modes".
Video Device: XF86-VESA VESA-compatible video cardsOn b63, it is known that there are issues with some video drivers.
A possible workaround is to use XF86 drivers, so maybe use some non-vesa driver.
Text-Only installerUsing this method where you able to install all CD's?
    Hope this helps you.
If not check if your hw is compatible (hcl) or wait for the next beta-release.

  • Partial dma problems on x86 (intel)

    Hi,
I am trying to port a Sparc driver to x86. On SPARC, you have DVMA, so
essentially SGlist size is 1. On x86, you get a large SGList. Our h/w can
handle only 64 SGL entries. I keep messing with just about every parameter
in ddi_dma_attr struct, but no luck. I or'ed in PARTIAL_DMA flag, but it keeps giving me 64+ cookies.
I have loaded latest patch cluster as of 4/19/00, but does not help.
    Please help.

    Hi Harish,
Following is the excerpt from one of FAQs.
    ====
For our discussion we are focusing on the number of scatter gather elements only. This is controlled by the dma_attr_sgllen member of the ddi_dma_attr structure. A popular misconception is that the dma_attr_sgllen is the maximum number of cookies the ddi_dma_alloc_handle() will return. This is not true. The ddi_dma_alloc_handle() will return as many cookies it needs to satisfy the request.
Let's see an example. Assuming you want to do a DMA transfer of lets say 1MB and your hardware can handle 64 scatter gather elements. So you would call the ddi_dma_alloc_handle() with dma_attr_sgllen set to 64. In this case let us say that ddi_dma_alloc_handle() could not fit in 1MB into 64 contagious memory segments. Then it will return lets say 96 cookies. The sum total of all the sizes of the 96 cookies will be equal to 1MB and the first 64 cookies will satisfy all the alignment requirements that you had requested in the ddi_dma_attr structure.
The device driver is expected to check for this condition and handle the transfer using two or more dma requests to the DMA hardware. As each set of 64 cookies satisfy all you alignment requirement it should be just doing multiple 64 scatter gather element dma transfers.

    Hope this helps.

  • CS4 installaton problems

The CS4 extended installer is crashing (which means I can't run CS4 at all, so I'm verging on demanding my money back for the upgrade)...
Running in Vista Ultimate, 64bit, 4 GB ram, nVidia 8800M GTX with 512 MB ram... around 15 GB free on my main drive, and well over 400 GB free on my second drive
This is in a fresh Vista install, after ensuring that all of my drivers are current, service pack 1 is installed, and going through adobe's silliness of restarting in a simplified mode and also disabling user access control, and running install as an administrator... no dice.
I found one of the other similar threads, but found that I don't have any user agent related registry entries to remove, so no dice there either.
Does anyone by any chance have any other ideas or recommendataions?
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the response!
I guess the uninstall process cleans those up, because it was running when I read your reply, and I couldn't find any installer logs for Adobe.
I guess this is what happens when you try to parallelize things in the real world ;)
Anyway, an update -- good news; after uninstalling followed by running the cs4cleanup utility, I switched to a "simplified" mode per Adobe's tech docs, though unlike their recommendation I left the flex license services disabled as well as everything else, and ran the installer as administrator. This time it ran to completion, though I didn't have time to launch PS4 before I had to head out to work.
Hopefully, when I get home tonight I'll be able to actually run PS4... which will be nice, it will make working with 1+ GB images much more pleasant (I'm using the 64-bit version).
    Thanks!

  • Win8 ADK: Dism Problems (.DLL related?)

I'm having some problems with the Win8 ADK; specifically, DISM, and it appears to be a bug related to how the ADK is installed and it's .DLLs are registered.
I created a Windows 8 x64 VM from scratch and installed WADK, and once finished, opened a Shell with the Deployment and Imaging Tools environment settings as Administrator. I then ran the copype script to create a fresh copy of WinPE to begin servicing:
    copype x86 C:\test
This command executes as expected. I then attempt to mount the new image:
    dism /mount-image /imagefile:C:\test\media\sources\boot.wim /index:1 /mountdir:C:\test\mount
This operation fails with the following output:
Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
    Version: 6.2.9200.16384
    Error: 3
The system cannot find the path specified.
The DISM log file can be found at C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log
Now, what's bizarre is that if I proceed to uninstall WADK, I can then immediately re-run the same operation and it will work correctly -- presumably using the Windows 8's built-in DISM tools. If I reinstall WADK, once again I cannot mount images--uninstall,
    and everything is fixed again.
I've been trying this on various machines in our organization, and so far I've encountered this problem on one Windows 8 VM, as well as a coworkers Windows 7 x64 workstation. Strangely, other coworkers (also using Windows 7 x64) seem to be having no problems
related to mounting images with DISM.
Are there known issues with WADK/DISM? It seems like the WADK might have some issues in installing/registering the necessary DISM files, in that the same error can occur on Windows 8 and also 7. I can only confirm that I've seen this issue on x64, but I
haven't had the resources to try and test to look for similar problems in x86 environments.
Can anyone advise on this issue?

To be clear, I installed the WADK in order to create a new copy of Windows PE (x86) to
C:\Test. To that order, the following directories exist:
    C:\Test
    C:\Test\fwfiles
    C:\Test\media
    C:\Test\mount
Further, I can run copype x86 C:\Test successfully after installing the WADK. However, mounting the image is where the problem comes in. Again, here is the command I'm using to mount the image:
    dism /mount-image /imagefile:C:\test\media\sources\boot.wim /index:1 /mountdir:C:\test\mount
With WADK installed, this operation fails citing "Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified." If I uninstall the WADK, I can then successfully mount the image using the same command. I expect that
the difference is that with WADK installed, some DLL confusion is taking place. When I uninstall the WADK, I'm now mounting the image using the built-in DISM components, and it works correctly.
Attached are two seperate DISM logs: The first is of DISM failing to mount the image with WADK installed. The second is of successfully mounting the image after uninstalling WADK and using Windows alone.
    Windows 8 + WADK installed (/mount-image fails):

    Further:
When running DISM commands in Windows 8 w/o WADK, I'm running from an elevated Console
When running DISM commands on Windows 8 w/ ADK, I've tried running from an elevated Console, elevated DISM environment Console (installed with the WADK), as well as running dism.exe specifically from the Windows Kits\8.0\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Deployment
Tools\amd64 as well as x86 directories. All fail as above.
This problem is reproduceable in my HyperV session, I can install/uninstall WADK repeatedly and receive the same results. To that end, I can capture a video and post to Youtube (or elsewhere) to help share the operations I'm going through. I could also take
a snapshot and perform other testing.
It seems that installing the WADK is causing some libraries to be stomped on, for lack of a better term. Also importantly, a co-worker who has Windows 7 x64 is getting the same type of error, although because he's running Windows 7 and not Windows 8, he cannot
test a mounting operation without the WADK (as Windows 7 does not include the DISM tools as Windows 8 does.)

    i'm HCL list found it.

    error message.

interface ifconfig: SIOCGIFFLAGS:pcelx0: no such interface
    Please answer the question.!!!

I have a Dell inspiron 5000 with the ATI Rage Mobility Card. In order to get it to work properly I had to get Accelerated-X from Xi Graphics (www.xig.com). After using their software I can now work at 1280x1024 with full color.
I have never got Solaris 7 to recognize a pcmcia card. What I finally did was get a Xircom parallel port ethernet card. That works. Your error message means Solaris never found the card.

  • Can't get Solaris 8 to show my second hard drive.

I installed Sol8 on a 1 hard drive intel machine (as the only OS, no windows). Later, I added a second hard drive, and after running the device config assistant (DCA) still doesn't show it in the list of drives under the 'format' command.
Physically, the new hard drive is using middle IDE plug on my IDE 0, original drive is plugged in on the end of IDE 0. The new hard drive is jumperred to slave, original was orignially set for single, that didn't work so I tried jumperring that one to master, no change in results. On IDE 1 I have a cd-rom on the end plug, originally with no jumper, then added jumper for master (middle plug is empty).
In the BIOS, the second drive was detected with the right number of heads, cyl, etc. It calls it my D drive.
I can get to certain screens in DCA to show me the second drive (only in respect to which drive should boot the kernal - I don't want to install the OS on the second drive, I just want it for extra storage).
Am I missing a step, or am I not installing the hard drive correctly? After DCA and reboot, it still only gives me a choice of my origial drive for 'format', and only shows one drive in the SMC.
I don't know what is on the new drive (it was pulled from another PC).

I have the same problem on x86 Solaris 10 that the format command cannot show my second hard drive, the master and slave hard disk are attached through one single cable and Solaris 10 is intalled in the master disk. I tried devfsadm -v but it still doesn't work, do you have any other way to do that? Thank you for any help.

  • Flash player in Chrome high CPU usage

    Laptop Specs:
    Windows 7  64-bit
    Lenovo Thinkpad T410
    Intel Core i5 CPU  m 520 @2.4 GHz
    8.00 GB RAM
This started happening a couple months back (September ish). My laptop run perfectly fine with game play, watching HD movies, running photoshop, etc. It's only when I start up Google Chrome that the CPU usage would spike. It remains under 80% though. With normal internet surfing my CPU usage will teader around 30-40%. When I watch videos via chrome, that's when I have problems. For example, when I watch a "Walking Dead" episode from AMC.com, my CPU usage will spike to 90-100%. After a minute or two my computer will do a hard shut down, as if I pulled the battery out. I'm guessing it is because my CPU is being overworked and over heated. I thought this problem was only with Chrome but when I pulled up the video with internet explorer the same thing happened. I've cleaned my CPU & fan and bought a laptop cooling fan, no help. I've disabled the multiple flash plugins on chrome, no help. I've updated chrome and flash, no help. What should I do? I've read online that this is a common issue. Has there been a solution yet?

    Same problem here:
         - x86 Family 15 Model 6 Stepping 5 GenuineIntel ~3000 Mhz.
         - Intel 82945G Express Chipset Family/128MB
         - 4gb RAM
         - Windows XP
The problem is obvious on pages with Flash ads, YouTube (auto resolution), etc. I have the same problem with IE 8; I am guessing, it is not related to the browser.
Ordinary pages with Flash ads keep the CPU at 15%, at least, when not visible; when visible it oscillates from 15% to 90%.
In YouTube the CPU goes to 80% when the video is visible and decreases to 20% when not visible, but it spikes to 30%.
My other, I7, computer has no problem.
Adobe, I hope you will come with a solution. An algorithm should not rely on computer's power.

  • SCCM 2012 Agent and high CPU utilization.

We have numerous Windows workstations and servers running with very high CPU utilization. Services are slow to start and login can take an hour. The service running with high CPU is svchost.exe, we determined that it is Windows Management Instrumentation
that is causing high CPU in svchost.exe.
If we stop or uninstall the SCCM 2012 Agent, everything calms down on the computer.
Any ideas as to way this would be?

Same issue seen on a clients and KB2617858 resolves it. I am deploying using the App model no problem with x86 and x64 hotfixes with requisite OS requirements. Is there a way to configure to only apply to those that it applies to...if that makes sense. I
ask because my B&C x64 W7Sp1 image does not require it (I have not included it) whereas other non-B&C do - what's the condition or applicability (or non-applicability) if not as listed on the KB..! If I run it one W7 machine it says it doesn't apply
and isn't already, whereas another it installs..!
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2705357:
To apply this hotfix, you must be running one of the following operating systems:
    Windows 7
    Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)
    Windows Server 2008 R2
    Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1)
..obviously, if a client has the issue it applies :)
Donald Rumsfeld's 'known unknowns' comes to mind here. Sorry.

  • Zpool import issue

    Hello.
I have two Solaris 10 servers (release 10/09). The first one is a Sun M4000 Server with SPARC technology. The other one is a Sun Fire X4170 with x86 Intel architecture. Both servers are attached via SAN to the same EMC Storage system. The disks from the M4000 Server are cloned every night with the EMC Storage. After cloning the clone disks are made visible to the X4170. When I try to import the Pool on the X4170 with
    zpool import -f sn2500-log
I get the following error message: “*invalid vdev configuration*”. But there is no problem when I try to import the same clone on an other SPARC server. Are there ZFS compatibility problems between x86 and SPARC architecture? There are differences when I compare the VTOC of the clone disk on the x86 and the source disk on the SPARC server. When I compare the VTOC of the clone disk on an other SPARC server and the source disk there are no differences.
I get the following informations from the X4170.
