Installed 10.5 and my NTSC monitor no longer displays In Final Cut Pro

I have been working on a movie project for over a year, and have used an external NTSC monitor via the S-Video cable adapter for the ATI Radeon X1900. It has worked perfectly, until I installed 10.5.1. Now it displays the desktop. All of my other windows within Final Cut work as they always have, and I've tried setting the "mirror on desktop" setting every way it can be set up, and so far nothing has worked. I can move the canvas window over to the secondary montior and it displays fine, so I know the display is "working." I have installed a firmware update for the Radeon card, and I have also updated my Pro Apps.
Any ideas?
Thanx!

In answer to your questions:
I updated to access better pathways in the hardware (i.e., I was under the impression that my system would work faster than before, and when working on films, faster is always better). Also, the project was supposed to be done. I felt this would be an advantageous time to do so. As it happened, the director decided to shoot new footage.
I have only just been able to purchase more drives, so no to the cloning question.
In this case, I did an upgrade install, and also upgraded the Pro Apps when that update became available.
If I may say, please post something useful, rather than "maybe you shouldn't have done this." I am looking for answers, not criticism, and if I could undo what I've done easily, I would. I have over twenty years experience in Macintosh hardware and software. My feeling on this particular issue is that if Apple only sells one video card that is compatible with an S-video output, then their video/film editing software should continue to work with it, even if that software is updated.

All of my titles, themes and generators seem to be completely missing from Final cut pro x. Do you know how to get them back?

Do you mean that when you click the title browser, for example, nothing is there?
Do you at least see several categories listed in the effects browser?
First make sure that you have nothing typed into the search box (not even spaces).
If you still see nothing, try this in order:
    1) Window->Revert to Original Layout
    2) Quit FCP X, delete preferences using Preference Manager (a free download from Digital Rebellion)
    3) Download FCS Remover, and use it to completely remove FCP X. This will NOT delete your content, just the application.
    4) Reinstall FCP X from the Mac App Store: log in with the same Apple ID that you used to buy FCP X, click on "Purchases", locate FCP X and click Install.

I just installed the lastest upgrade to Final Cut Pro X.  I have an external hard drive connected to my computer and I want to import video and sound files into Final Cut Pro X- how do I make the transfer?

File>Import Files (Shift-Cmd-I). Select the files, fill out the dialog box that appears as you need.

  • How do you match the audio and text with the typer writer effect in Final Cut Pro?

I am making a video and I want to sync up the text with the audio using the typer writer effect.  For example I want when the music makes a bing noise I want a letter to pop up.  How do you set the exact time for each letter that comes up instead of just choosing the duration.
    Thank you!!!!

The most common cause is user error in understanding how these things are recorded in the acquisition system. You've got to first determine in it's easily solved by properly transcoding or if you're actually just seeing a display lag. Mismatched sync is based on different timebase scales so the offset gets worse the longer a clip plays.
The most common solution is to unlink the components, time them precisely to the frame, and change the speed of one component to match precisely the length of the other. It's easy and usually results in a slight pitch change that is indiscernible.
But you want to figure out the cause, not just he solution, so you can fix it in production instead of in post.

  • Final Cut Pro X and 4:3 monitor

Hi, I'm sorry for my bad English!
I need an help about my 4:3 monitor and my MacPro.
I am a Final Cut Pro user... When I used Final Cut Pro 7, the software was perfect in my 1024*768 screen resolution.
Now, with Final Cut Pro X my monitor doesn't show all the window and I have to move the window to see the rest of the window.
Is there any solution, as letterbox the monitor? I can't spend any money for a new monitor and work with Final Cut in this way is very impossibile.
Apple didn't think to users with an old monitor!!!
    Help me! Thank you.

How can I unintall the trial version of the final cut pro x after installing the new updated final cut pro x 10.2

I have the same issue. There are now two version of FCP X: the trial one and the purchased one. Problem is, the first hasn't been overwritten by the second, and all my projects are only visible on Final Cut Pro X Trial, and nothing on FCP X.
How and where do I get a fast answer from customer support?

  • I just updated to new final cut pro x 10.1.1 and i am also on mavericks so but on my editing timeline i was trying to color grade using magic bullet looks but i am having problem with it. when it comes back to tcp x it's black.

I just updated to the new final cut pro x 10.1.1 and i am also on mavericks so but on my editing timeline i was trying to color grade using magic bullet looks but i am having problem with it. When i send a sample to MBL and color grade it , it comes back to final cut pro x all black even after render. By the way on the MBL i am using the GPU rendering, I used before like 4months ago and it was fine. And i don't like to use the CPU because it very slow.

What is the frame rate of the project? At what frame rate was the media recorded? What frame size?
    What are the audio settings?
What are the specs of the machine, in particular how much RAM, how is the hard drive connected, etc.?
If possible, post screenshots of the inspector for the project.
It could be related to the audio frequency?

  • Trouble with Round trip between Soundtrack Pro 2 and Final Cut Pro 6

I have edited a home movie together. I then have sent the sequence to Color for grading and then after completing the Color changes and Rendering. I sent it back to Final Cut Pro. It starts out working fine but during the transfer process it stops at somewhere between 50% and 60%. It is during the "Importing XML Data" phase. It just sits there and does not change and I have to force quit to get out of it. The exact same thing happens when I try to round trip from Soundtrack Pro 2 back to Final Cut Pro. So I am unable to make use of the changes I make in these programs.
This is a round trip process that I have successfully made many times before. Nothing has changed. I am working in Final Cut Studio 2 with the latest updates on an Intel Mac. Any advice on how to remedy this situation would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

    Thanks.
What's I've been doing is exporting the Soundtrack files as AIFF files, then importing them into Final Cut...
It's working... at least well enough. Still seems harder then just being able to go back and forth between the two applications.
    Thanks for the advice.

  • Best Graphics backgrounds for final cut pro and g-5's

I am not sure if this is the best place to post this but I was wondering if anyone could tell me what are some of the best graphics to use with final cut pro that work real well with a dual g5, this would be like quicktimes for backgrounds. I have had alot of people tell me after effects but then I am looking more for software that you dont have to build, I have been looking at Digital Juice and was wondering how well that works with final cut pro, are there any other High Quality graphics already put together, thanks for your help and if this is not posted in the right spot let me know where would be the place to post something like this. thanks

  • I updated to yosemite os and was in the middle of a project with final cut pro 10.  Now it says final cut pro is incompatible.  How can I access my project and/or update final cut?

I updated to yosemite os and was in the middle of a project with final cut pro 10.  Now it says final cut pro is incompatible.  How can I access my project and/or update final cut?

There is this offer of a trial version FC Pro X with 30 day runtime:
    http://www.apple.com/final-cut-pro/trial/
Too bad you didn't have a complete backup that could run the previous OS X
and then you could resume using an earlier Final Cut Pro (10) or (7) since a
clone would have been a means toward that position.
    http://www.apple.com/support/finalcutpro/
    http://www.apple.com/support/pro-apps/
This appears to be another good reason to check out all the reasons why one
would want or need to upgrade a working OS X version, since these kinds of
events are known to happen as a direct result.
Sorry to not have an answer to this, other than try & use the Trial version...
Or see if someone at Apple sales/support can field your issue w/ an answer.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • 5.1 Surround Speakers and TV/NTSC Monitor connection

I have a Dual 2.0 G5 that's a few years old but has an optical audio jack. I'm going to be editing a movie soon and would like to know if anyone could suggest a 5.1 Surround Sound speaker system that I would be able to connect to the computer. I've found several in the $200 range that claim they are PC speaker systems, but they seem to only have RCA connectors.
I also need to find some way to connect a TV/NTSC monitor to the computer, if anyone knows anything about that, too. I have a SONY digital-to-analog converter box, but it doesn't seem compatible with FCP (it works with iMovie).
I'm also going to post this in the G5 forum.
    Thanks in advance.
    Lloyd

there are many gaming speakers in the 100.00 range that work. Best Buy has them... However, you'll need a sound card to process the 5.1 sound to each speaker. You'll also have to set up Final Cut Pro for each speaker. As far as TV... i got HDMI cable with a PC connector on one end. Hooked up the HDMI to the TV.. PC connector to the mac with an adaptor... and I could play the movies on the TV. Pretty simple solution.

  • Help! Final Cut Pro wont Open, I tried to un install and re install but it still didnt work!

I have a Final Cut Pro Express from 2006 and all was working fine untill i got an external hard drive and moved most of my projects over there. i tried moving them back to no avail and tried uninstalling and reinstalling final cut and it didnt work! Anyone have any advice on what I can do???

I disagree an uninstall-install is going to do anything for you. "Won't work" and "to no avail" don't help us speculate on what's wrong with your system. Moving projects should not have caused any issues at all so what you probably really mean is that you moved your media or maybe moved your ssytem or the apps folder or you tried to move FCP. All really bad ideas.

  • Does CC 2014 eliminate the need to have Final Cut Pro and/or Compressor installed to access Apple ProRes 422?

    Hello:
Just today, I was working on a Mac system that does not have any of the applications that I would have expected to need to have installed in order to do more than just decompress movie files compressed with Apple ProRes 422.
I was expecting to have to install Final Cut Studio 3, Final Cut Pro X, Compressor 4, and/or QuickTime 7 with the QuickTime Pro key; however, none of those applications are installed and I am able to create custom QuickTime Apple Pro Res422 Sequences in Premiere Pro as well as export using Apple ProRes 422.  After Effects and Adobe Media Encoder also show all the Apple ProRes variations.
Does CC 2014 eliminate the need to have Final Cut Pro and/or Compressor installed to access Apple ProRes 422?  Is it something happening on the OS or QuickTime level that would affect CC or CS6 in the same way?
I've done a web search, but haven't really come up with anything other than older articles about needing to have FCP installed (and I typically work on systems with Final Cut Studio 3 installed as well as CS6, CC, or CC 2014).  If more detailed information is available, it would be great to be able to read up on it.
The system is a 21.5-inch iMac running Mac OS X 10.8.5, QuickTime Player 10.2, and Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 (8.0.0 - I know an update is available for PrPro, but it's not my system to make that change).
    Thanks in advance,
    Warren Heaton

    Hi Emil:
I use ProRes all the time as well, but I have Final Cut Studio on my workstations.
I had not come across MindPower009's YouTube video.  That explains how ProRes could be showing up without FCP or Compressor.
So, the answer to my question would be, "No, CC 2014 does not eliminate the need to have Final Cut Pro and/or Compressor installed to access Apple ProRes 422; however, if you are willing to be in violation Apple's terms of use, you can install the ProRes codecs anyway."
Even though MindPower009's YouTube video comments claim "FREE and LEGAL", it's clear from both the Apple download page and the ProRes codecs installer that Apple expects you to own at least one of their applications.
    Thanks again for the link!
