here's what we'll try first with that one.
first, completely remove your existing itunes and quicktime using the instructions from the following document:
Removing iTunes and QuickTime for Windows
second, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to check for any leftover itunes or quicktime installation configuration information. if you find any, remove it with CleanUp.
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
now restart the PC. download and save a copy of the itunes 7.0.1.8 installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
iTunes 7.0.1.8 Installer
if that install goes through okay, restart the PC and try to launch itunes again. does it launch okay this time, or do you get an error message? if you get an error message, what does it say this time?

  • Installing itunes and quicktime problem

Alright i am having problems installing itunes and quicktime, itunes downloads fine but when the quicktime install gets to writing system registry values it says "Could not open key: HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classes\QuicktimePlayerLib.QuicktimePlayerApp\CLSID. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel"

    "Could not open key: HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classes
\QuicktimePlayerLib.QuicktimePlayerApp\CLSID. Verify that you have sufficient >access to that key, or contact your support personnel"
Crikey. Haven't seen one of those for an eternity.
Checking on a simpler possibility with it first. It can be produced if certain older versions of QuickTime were installed in a different administrative user accpount from the one in which you're currently attempting to install the newer version.
Do you have other user accounts with full administrative rights on the PC? If so, can the install go through successfully from any of those?

  • CD/DVD Drive disappears after installing itunes and quicktime HELP!

When I have installed itunes and quicktime my cd/dvd player drive disappears?? Has anyone had this problem??

I have had exactly the same problem with my Toshiba Laptop running Vista Home Premium for 5 months. I have continually tried updating and checking this site for a fix, but haven't had a clue. My Son-in-law works for Microsoft and uses iTunes extensively and he can't figure it out either. Toshiba has no answers.
I am beginning to believe that Gates has scored one-up on Jobs by planting something in Vista that crashes the drive when you try to use Apple software.

  • Problems installing itunes and quicktime. i've tried everything

i installed itunes. i was then using the wrong port/plug in because it wouldn't read my D drive. i reinstalled itunes and then i clicked on it and it says something like "i can't open this because the installation failed with itunes or quicktime."
i then tried to delete itunes from "my computer" which worked, but it wont let me touch quicktime to delete it. i left quicktime in the computer.
i have then re- installed itunes and registered my ipod over 10 times at least because it kept saying i couldn't use itunes. i think that might be the problem, that my ipod has been registered so many times. which files ami supposed to erase to fix this problem. i restored my computer and reinstalled itunes and the same problem happened. there is also a error 2095 in quicktime which i cant fix. i just got an ibm laptop aith windows xp and i was wondering if i should try using that instead. it already has itunes on it, but it has not been used.should i?

I'm having the same problem....driving me crazy...I've tried everything...turning off my virus and firewall center....deleting it...reinstalling it from the disk and the site....and I keep getting Error code on the QT of 3 and I don't remember the one of Itunes but it won't run unless QT is installed....HELP!!!!

  • Installing iTunes and QuickTime on an HP laptop running Windows 7.

    I get error 2738 when:
              installing todays downloads or when
uninstalling a preinstalled 2009 version of QuickTime.
I have seen and successfully applied the solution offerred at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1331.
    Twice.
Restarted the computer and applied that solution again, and again with the message indicating success.
And each time get the error 2738 message.

I also looked through the earlier messages and saw something about
a logon as a simple user.
Did this and then noticed the uninstaller in QuickTime folder.
Used this and QuickTime uninstalled without error (2738 or anything else).
Continued to be logged on as this simple user.
Ran the iTunes installer (answering yes to security questions).
Installed both iTunes and QuickTime without error.

  • Massive problems installing itunes and quicktime

Hi, to anyone who can help me:
I cannot install iTunes or quicktime. Just bought a new ipod 30gb. v.excited. Downloaded itunes. gives me error messages when i try to install.
They read: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
    and
"The installation of Quicktime did not complete successfully. ITunes requires Quicktime."
I have tried using CCleaner to clean up my hard drive and uninstall both itunes and quicktime (old and dodgy new versions). I have tried using 7-zip to unpack the new downloaded files and install from the .msi and other .exe files.
I have tried installing the standalone Quicktime (which wont install properly) and then installing itunes (which won't install properly, coz quicktime is not installed properly)
I have tried rebooting my computer between these attempts
I have tried it with my virus-protection software off as one thread here suggested.
I am logged on as administrator for all these attempts and i'm at my wits end.
    I have tried everything!
please help me if you have suggestions.
    Thanks

They read: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
    interesting.
did you have an earlier version of itunes and/or quicktime installed on the PC? in particular, an itunes 6.0.x or lower version, and/or a QuickTime 7.1 or lower version?
(checking on this because i'm wondering if there's a DCOM permissions issue involved with the uninstall of your previous versions of itunes/quicktime.)

  • Problemmm installing iTunes and Quicktime on 64bit XP System....NOT VISTA!

I had a problem installing iTunes onto my Windows XP 64bit system so I tried an older version of both iTunes and Quicktime 7.1.1 from www.oldapps.com and it appeared to work okay...it was version 7.1 I believe. However, the library it pulled over won't play anything that I have downloaded since that release. Any advice?
Does anyone have a solution for a 64bit XP system? Is there an iTunes tech support phone number anywhere?//

    Hello, Welcome to discussions.
I am sorry. At this time there is only iTunes 64 bit for Windows Vista, There is currently not one for Windows XP 64 bit.
Please feel free to use feedback link below.

    Windows Software

    * QuickTime 7.5.5 or later is required (included)

  • Can't install itunes and quicktime on win7 32bit

    Hi all,
since the new updates from october 2011 i couldnt update my itunes anymore. During the installation it said:
in dutch: kan map C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu niet maken. Er bestaat al een bestand met deze naam. Wijzig de naam of verwijder het bestand en klik op nogmaals.
In english: can not make folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu. There already excists a folder with this name. Rename the folder or delete the folder and try again.
Now the problem is: i deleted my itunes and quicktime to finally install the new updates. When i install itunes it still give this message during the install and i cannot find the folder  C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu  and i deleted everything i could find from itunes.
In my start menu there isnt anything named itunes as far as i can see. how can i delete the folder so i can finally instal itunes again..?

These are the minimums listed for the iPod Classic:
    Windows system requirements
    PC with USB 2.0 port
Windows Vista or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later
    iTunes 7.4 or later

  • Bought new iPod but unable to install iTunes and Quicktime, so what now?

I tried to install iTunes, but when it gets to the Quicktime module, it stops working and says the following: This installer cannot upgrade QuickTime 7 for Windows Public Preview. Please uninstall it first."
OK, so how do I do this. There is NO Quicktime listed anywhere in my Add/Remove folder, and no Quicktime shows up when I run the word through the FIND search in Registry Editor.
If I cannot resolve this, I'll have to return the iPod to Apple as an unworkable gadget.

I have just found a way of sending some feedback to
    Apple.
Will be interested to see what they say to this>>
I find it ridiculous that the cost of these ipods
does not include some on line support from Apple. We
have to try and rely on other users in discussion
forums. All I am finding is there are loads of others
on thee forums with similar problems unable to find a
    solution.
    Please advise.
Also found a number for 'tecnical support' after 5
    days trying....
    0870 876 0753
Will give them a 'polite' call tomorrow!!!!
Thanks for the phone No. I was having a problem with Quicktime which I couldn,t resolve by checking the discussion forums but that phone No. was a great help. Alhough you are talking to a call centre somewhere in the world and have to be careful with the language difficlties it was a help and it,s a shame Apple don't make this No. more easily available, so well done for finding that No.
You can go days or even months for a solution and I think Apple should have an online Tech. expert to help out.

  • Installing iTunes and QuickTime

I've read all of the discussions and tried everything. I had iTunes working on an old computer. Bought a new computer and a couple of iPods. I'm trying to install iTunes from the download. It appears to install ok but when I launch it, I get the "Tell", "Don't Tell" message. Through that, I find out that the problem is with QuickTime and that I should remove it and reinstall. Except that QuickTme does not show up as an installed program but iTunes does. So, I remove iTunes and reinstall. Same thing. When I launch QuickTime, nothing happens but I can view the options page. I tried the standalone quicktime install but get an error at the end (Can't remember the error but it lists a bunch of dll's).
    Can anyone help?

    hi Sunfire!
I tried the standalone quicktime install but get an error at the end (Can't remember the error but it lists a bunch of dll's).
hmmm. can you run that standalone again, and check to see if you're getting an "0x80040707" error?
(if so, i think we've got a good shot at fixing this one.)
    keep us posted.
    love, b

  • Install iTunes and Quicktime seperately?

I already have quicktime installed, and all I'm trying to do is upgrade my current iTunes to 10.1. Every time I try to do this, it gets to the part where it installs quicktime, gets to "computing space requirements" and stops. An error message pops up ready "cannot access data folder %APPDATA%\. I've tried so many things, and nothing seems to be working. I'm fairly certain it's quicktime that will not install, not iTunes. So I was wondering if there was any way to install iTunes 10.1 separate from the quicktime installion. Meaning, not the link that Apple provides, because that requires you to install quicktime and iTunes at the same time. I already have quicktime, I just want to install iTunes 10.1. Btw I have a vista home desktop.

Error 1402. Could not open key:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classes\.cdda\OpenWithProgids.
Verify that you have sufficent access to that key, or contact your support personnel
when i go to regedit, my user seems to have correct access on the key, but i add "everyone" as it says in the link above, then when i try to install i get the above error. Go back into regedit and "everyone" is no longer on that key

  • Cannot open TIFF files since installing iTunes and QuickTime Player.

iTues+Quicktime is preventing use of Alternatiff, that is a Firefox plug-in TIFF image viewer, from displaying the image. Instead the Quicktime symbol appears but is unable to display the image. I uninstalled iTunes and without any other change, the plug-in works. I installed iTunes, making sure it is not selected as default media player. When iTunes started both it and Alternatiff plug-in functioned correctly. However, Upon exit from iTunes my TIFF viewer stopped working again. Uninstalling Quicktime (leaving iTunes) enables Altermatiff but then iTunes doesn't work
It is critical that I get bot iTunes and a TIFF viewer plug in to work.
    HELP!!!
    [email protected]

    Excellent news, Bulent!
I hope Quicktime does not, later, try to take over again.
Good point ... next time you do a QuickTime update directly from the Website:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
... very near the end of the install, there should be a screen with a "Configure File/MIME types" button. Click the button, go to the MIME types, and make sure that that TIFF image entry is unchecked. That should avoid the problem in future.

  • Installing iTunes and QuickTime on computer not connected to internet

I'm planning on giving my current iPod to my father-in-law. He has a computer but it isn't connected to the internet. If I just download the iTunesSetup.exe from this Apple web site, does it contain everything needed to install iTunes, or will it try to download other components from the internet. If so, is there a way to get the full iTunes/Quicktime software so I can bring it over to his place (either burn it on a DVD or put it on a USB)?
    Thanks,
    -D

    Wlecome to AD!
iTunesSetup.exe should have everything you need.
QuickTime is bundled into the install - so are Safari, Apple Software Update, and a few other things.
Cross your fingers that it goes well. Othewise, you're nowhere near the internet to get answers if an error message or problem crops up.
