Installed Maverick yes Mac still shows 10.8.5 installed

Weird thing. I have been trying to run the migration assistant on my Macbook Pro with Mavericks installed and its the old version from 10.8. So I looked at "About this mac" and it says that 10.8 is installed. Yet I installed Mavericks on it and even when I go to the app store it shows that I downloaded it already.
Any Ideas?

After you down loaded Mavericks it went into your apps directory. You then need to click on the app to install.

I've installed Mavericks several times - from the update section of the App Store to the Featured Section and even tried using cmd-r and a fresh install of the OS. Looks like it installed fine, but it still shows up in the App Store as to be downloaded and not installed.

Spoke with Apple Customer Care. They said it was normal and allowed Mavericks to be downloaded on multiple machines. Looks like all went well.

I had the same problem and was puzzled -- The App Store didn't automatically download/install ML after I purchased it. I had to click on Purchases and THEN on the "install" button.
Wasn't very intuitive.

Deleted Mail "On My Mac" still showing up

I use Tiger, with Mail 2.0.5 (746/746.2).
I have spam auto-filtered into a "Spam" mailbox/folder on my Mac so that it doesn't go to the trouble of synchronizing with my IMAP server. (I started using SpamSieve for this because I get so much spam.)
I have a little cron job that periodically deletes messages from this folder.
The problem is, the messages still show up in Mail, when I click on the Spam folder. When I click on one of the deleted messages, it says the message "has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
But the message isn't on a server - it's on my Mac - and it no longer exists.
Any way to clue Mail in to the fact that these messages have been deleted?
I do this with Mail on an IMAP server and it works great.

You're welcome.
Since the mailbox is new and less than a week old, this may be caused by using a script outside of Mail to delete messages from this mailbox since I haven't experienced the same with any of my mailboxes under Tiger Mail.
It is a good idea to use the Rebuild Mailbox function on the most active mailboxes on a regular basis but I do so on a monthly or every couple of weeks basis depending on activity.

Has anybody else had that problem or know what can be done to enable the needed optimization to complete if one needs to shut down the mac in the meantime as the box only gives "Close" as an option + a warning that "performance may be affected until completed".

I agree that Barney's input that the message was just a notification & not a progress indicator & hence that was it was fine to close proved to be the correct & complete answer, but due to having first posted your initial reply as the correct answer (as it did solve the problem also), the system seems to only post the rest of my replies as "this helped me" despite my clicking on the "correct answer" button even now in response to your 2nd reply & I can't find a way to change that status once posted.

I off loaded my photos, the storage on the compute still shows 47GB of photos. When I go to IPhoto, it is empty and so is trash? Why is the storage still showing photos taking up space

Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.

Why does Mavericks still show as not installed

I did a clean install of Mavericks from usb and in the MAS, still shows that I have not downloaded Mavericks. Grey button still says 'download'. See screenshot. Is there a way to have it change to 'installed', so that MAS recognizes that it is downloaded and updates automatically when 10.9.1 drops?

Thank you for your question. Unlike applications purchased from the Mac App store, Mac OS X will show "Download" even after it has downloaded. This is beneficial if you need to install Mac OS X onto an alternate drive.
If you have installed OS X Mavericks, you will still get the software updates even though you see the word "Download" by it in the Mac App Store. As long as you see Version 10.9 in About this Mac, you are currently up to date:
From the Apple menu, choose About This Mac. The About This Mac window shows your OS X version number.

How do you mean it isn't showing the external drive? If you mean on the desktop, click Finder on the menu bar, Preferences, General and check the boxes for Show these items on the desktop - make sure hard drives is checked.
If you mean it is not showing in Finder or Disk Utility, make sure it is turned on, reboot and see if that mounts it so it shows up.

You did install the latest iTunes (10.5) right? If the problem was that iTunes does not see the iPod try:

Have an imac with snow leopard and Firefox 3.6.13. On a prompt downloaded and installed Firefox 3.6.16. Firefox opening Screen still shows 3.6.13. Have done this twice with the same result. Any help?

On opening Firefox 3.6.13 firefox screen suggests downloading latest version. Have downloaded and installed Firefox 3.6.15 (sorry typing error in previous entry). On opening Firefox, screen still shows 3.6.13 as the operating version although "Get info" shows that updating has been done. Thinking I may have made a mistake I have done this twice with the same result. The screen is still telling me to update.

Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.

I downloaded Java to my mac and then decided to uninstall it, but it's still showing up in plugins on firefox.

I installed java plugin to my mac, which runs mountain lion, and then found instructions to uninstall it by dragging it out of applications and into the trash. However, under Tools menus--Addins, the java plugin is still showing up. I've disabled it, but would like to completely uninstall it. How do I do that?

You can set the plugin.expose_full_path pref to true on the about:config page to see the full path of plugins on the about:plugins page.

It is best not to leave that pref set to true as it exposes that full path to web servers via the navigator.plugins object, so reset that pref to false after you are done with the about:plugins page.

Trying to install Mavericks on Mac Pro series 4,1

Hi all,
I'm trying to install Mavericks on Mac Pro series 4,1 After downloading from App Store, when computer restarts I get grey screen with the "no entry" sign. I have checked compatibility and this model qualifies for Mavericks. Tried a clean install of 10.6.8 first, but no luck. Any ideas?
The Mac has single quad core 2.66, 6 Gb RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT120 graphics. Four hard drives. Three Pro Tools HD cards in PCIe slots.
I also tried this with Mountain Lion, with the same results.

Didn't have any luck with removing PCI cards, BUT................ here's how I resolved the issue:
I tried making a USB stick installer. That also failed, but I noticed it couldn't find any hard drives.
I did a search about OSX installer not finding drives and found someone who had that issue and it turned out to be a conflict with the WIFI card (Atheros, not the more common Broadcom)
I checked my System Profiler and sure enough, I have the Atheros.
I just removed the WIFI card and booted into OSX Installer (it was still there after the failed install) and successfully installed Mavericks.

I have changed my photo on my contacts, but when I send a text on my mac it still shows the old photo.

Yes i am using a PC, i just wanted to ask before rebooting the laptop and disabling the Hyper threading,Is it possible to have a unfinalized Premier Pro project saved as a Adobe premier file on to my USB, then that saved file on the USB stick, inserted into a different Laptop that wasn't originally used to make the Premier Pro project, but has Adobe Media encoder and adobe creative cloud in the same version.
the reason i asked this is because this is my situation and i was wondering if the different Pc had anything to do with the exporting
