Did you create a database though?
Installing Oracle doesn't necessarily mean you have a database.

  • SQL Developer 1.5.5 installs but won't connect to Oracle DB

An earlier version I'd been using for years just went dead on me, nearly crashing my PC in the process.
I installed 1.5.5 with its own JDK, and it launches without errors, but when I try to create a new connection, it gives me this crap: "no ocijdbc11 in java.library.path".
A perfect example of a completely useless error message. What's a "java.library.path"? Where is it? How do I fix it?
I couldn't find any uninstall utility for SQL Developer, so I just deleted the 'sqldeveloper' directories for both versions and re-installed. Same result, same useless error message.
I thought I might try this forum while I'm installing TOAD. Any suggestions? Anyone seen this before?

If you're using TNS, try using the Basic connection type.
If that still doesn't work, you can try tricking sqldev by changing your ORACLE_HOME within a batch file inside sqldev's install folder. This would force using the supplied thin driver:
    set ORACLE_HOME=%CD%
    start sqldeveloper.exeHope that helps,

  • How to install SQL Developer Data Modeler 3.1.1 for Mac OS X?

How do I install SQL Developer Data Modeler 3.1.1 for Mac OS X? I downloaded the file "datamodeler-3.1.1-703-macosx.gz" from OTN, but there is only a single file inside this archive - "datamodeler-3.1.1-703-macosx". What am I missing here?
    Thanks in advance...

Extract that file and then run it.
Once you installed the tool to your Applications folder (if you choose to move it to Applications), you'll need to install Java (maybe).
What version of OS X are you on?
In a command window/terminal, type 'java -version'
If you get something back like 'java version "1.6..." then you're all good.
If you're on Mountain Lion, then type 'java' instead. That should download java for you.
Once you've got java available, then launch SQL Developer Data Modeler.
The installation notes are here if you want the official list of instructions

  • Problem install SQL Developer in my iMac

    Hello everybody!!
I´m a Spanish guy who is starting in the world of databases. This is my first year studying and I´ve always used SQL Developer on Windows but now I would like to use it on Mac.
I have installed the SQL Developer but when I try to create a new connection I get an error message, it says something like:
_"Error de E/S: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection"_
But is very strange for me because in Windows when I want to create a new connection, first of this, I have to create a new user in the SYSTEM connection, but now in Mac this connection (SYSTEM) doesn´t exist.
There are a lot changes between Windows´s version to Mac´s version.... can anyone help me please??
Thanks for your attention and excuse me for my English hehe!

    Hi betico,
I have no idea if Oracle 10g Release 2 for Mac OS X Server 10.5.4 might also install and run properly on OS X 10.7.3. I do not use a Mac, but probably your best path forward is to use ...
    Oracle VM Virtual Box:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/virtualbox/downloads/index.html
to run a VM image packaged for a recent Oracle Technology Network Developer Day workshop:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/databaseappdev-vm-161299.html
That VM includes Oracle 11g2 Release 2, SQL Developer, and so on. And if you wish to run SQL Developer directly on OS X, you can still connect to the database running within the VM by altering the VM's network configuration to use a bridged adapter. Here is a post from another thread that discusses that:

  • Problem while installing sql developer

    Hi,
I am trying to install SQL Developer for the first time on my machine with
OS : WinXP Professional Service Pack 2
Configuration : Intel Pentium 4 1.50 Ghz, 512 MB RAM
Database: Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.6.0
    PC Type: LAN PC
I download both the versions described below for installation in my PC:
    1. Oracle SQL Developer for Windows
    2. Oracle SQL Developer for Windows, with JDK 1.5 already installed
But when i start setup, It asks me to locate the path of Java Executable in both the cases.. and when i give path of java.exe which is installed as a part of Oracle installation on my PC it gives me the error:
"Java 1.3 not supported.. pls. install Java 1.5"
can you pls let me know if winXP has builtin Java1.5 support? Also in Oracle's Java\bin folder has java.exe which when selected gives me the same above error.. is there anyway to get around this?
    thx

Are you sure you downloaded the correct archive ?
    Download sqldeveloper from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/sql/index.html
    - extract sqldeveloper.zip into any folder, using folder names
    - within that folder, open the sqldeveloper folder
    - double-click sqldeveloper.exe

  • Issue Install SQL Developer - Windows 7 64 Bit

I am trying to install SQL Developer 3.2 on my Windows 7 - 64 bit laptop. When I attempt to install and put in the Java path I get the following error:
"Cannot find a J2SE SDK installed at path: ;C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0\bin."
I tried using the version 6 path and it did not work either.
    Can someone please advise?
    Thanks for your help!
    NS

Does your path really start with ';' - if so, that's wrong.
Also, take out the \bin, should look something like this
    C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_05

  • SQL Developer 1.1 Query Builder does not display connection tree

I have installed SQL Developer 1.1 on a PC running Windows XP SP2. I am connecting to Oracle 9.2.0.7.0.
After connecting to the database, I right click in the SQL Worksheet and select Query Builder and when the new window is displayed, there are no tables to select from.
    What is causing this?

    Hi Antony,
Upgrading from SP7 to SP9 fixed a lot of problems for me! It's worth trying.
    Problems solved for me:
Page requests take about 2 minutes to display page (now within a few seconds)
KM SQL logging (30-50Mb per minute) problem fixed.
There are some problems upgrading to SP9, but searching this forum will help you in finding some solutions for this

  • TS1398 Can't connect to hotspot with my iPad, picks it up but unable to connect. Any sugestions?

Can't connect to hotspot with my iPad, picks it up but unable to connect. Any sugestions?

When Access Connections fails to connect it asks if I want to configure the network and there's a bunch of settings. Connection type: infrastructure or Adhoc, Wireless security type "use static WEP keys", "Use Wi-Fi protected Access - Pre Shared Key (WPA-PSK)" - I choose it and under Properties there's more options. Access point authentication, WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK; I've tried it both ways. Data encryption: TKIP or AES, I've been using TKIP. Under Pre-Shared Key, there's the only box I see to enter a password, so I enter the password there.
Chances are pretty good that the problem is the network configuration of your PC and not the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS). What configuration options you choose will depend on how you set up the AEBS's wireless network, but the following can be used as a guideline:
    o Connection Type: Infrastructure
    o Wireless Security Type:
    AirPort Setting = PC Setting
    o WEP = WEP
    o WPA Personal = WPA-PSK w/TKIP
    o WPA2 Personal = WPA-PSK w/AES

  • Problem in launching newly installed SQL Developer in Linux

In order to install ORacle SQL Developer for linux, I tried to install JDK 5.0 according to the instruction. I downloaded the files and installed it. But when running the sqldeveloper, I got the error message:
Error: This product requires a Java(TM) Platform 5.0 runtime.
You are using 1.4.2 from /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.4.2-gcj-1.4.2.0/jre
Yes, in directory /usr/lib/jvm, there are:
    java-1.4.2-gcj-1.4.2.0, jre, jre-1.4.2, jre-1.4.2-gcj, jre-gcj
    But rpm -qa|grep jdk returned:
    jdk-1.5.0_10-fcs
How can I resolve this issue?

you are running SQL Developer using gcc's runtime environment.
just set JAVA_HOME to the dir where jdk1.5 is installed, then PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH, and it should work.

  • Installing SQL developer on windows 7

    Hi all,
Please has anybody successfully installed Oracle SQL developer on windows 7 (64 bit system)? I have been trying to do that for some time now but it has not worked out? I even downloaded the beta version of JDK i.e. JDK version 7 on advice from a google user. Here, there was an instruction that I need to change the file to make it executable which I don't know how to do. Can someone help me out here?

    Hi,
I have also installed on windows 7 but the screen refresh rate is pretty bad.
By this I mean have a lot of SQL in the SQL editor and scrolling up and down in the box. We use this as a development tool and it is stopping the roll out of Windows 7 to the development team.
Is there a work around to this or is anyone else experiencing this problem. ?
By the way Java version is
    java version "1.6.0_17"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_17-b04)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 14.3-b01, mixed mode, sharing)
    Any help appreciated.

If you do not have a tab titled 'Connections', and clicking on menu 'View -> Connections' does not bring one up, then you have a bad 'install'. Possibly need to download again. Or possibly you ignored the 'where is the Java.exe' box, or pointed it to the wrong java.exe.
If you DO have the connection tab, right-click on the 'Connections' work in that column and follow the instructions at http://www.oracle.com/technology/oramag/oracle/08-may/o38sql.html

  • Installing sql developer

I have downloaded sql developer and while installing it was asking for the java path to be specified and on providing the java path(c:\Program Files (x86)\java\jre6\bin\java.exe) , it was raising the error saying
"Cannot find a J2SE SDK installed at path (c:\Program Files (x86)\java\jre6.)
Request you guys to let me know the possible solution or an workaround for the same.

    Hi,
J2SE SDK -> Java 2 Standard Edition Software Development Kit, aka, the JDK -> Java Development Kitas opposed to the
JRE -> Java Runtime Environmentis what SQL Developer needs to run. Try installing the latest Java 6 update (jdk1.6.0_35).
SQL Developer and Java 7 don't play well together (yet).

If you're running SQL Developer from your Database 12c install, you can set the java location to your $ORACLE_HOME\jdk
Otherwise I've written this to explain the jdk/java/jre path stuff.
