Installed windows media player but still cannot play some files

I've installed windows media player for mac but some sites still ask me to download, have you encountered the same problem before?

Most sites require Windows media player version 10 or 11. The latest version available for mac is version 9. So are still not able to play the content.
An alternative is to download Flip4Mac from http://www.flip4mac.com
I have downloaded and installed this software and found that it serves as a good substitute.

You probably have not seen anyone reporting the exact same problem as you. All three crash reports have the same crash signature and as currently ranked 67 it is not the commonest of reasons for a crash.
I hope you enter your email contact information when reporting crashes. I note you see this crash when using videos, others may possibly see this crash in other circumstances.
You have already tried the obvious, attempts at a fix so it is now down to wait and see, maybe developers working on the bug will report something or fix it.
Did you try my suggestion of installing portable ESR ?

  • Installing windows media player on my ibook G4

I have on several occasions now attempted to download and install wmp on my ibook (only because some radio stations need it to work) and I get as far as downloading it either to the desktop or in a folder in the documents section, then when I click on the icon in order to install it nothing happens only the itunes start up - but there is no mention of windows media player wherever I look. I know it's probably something really obvious but for the life of me I can't work it out. I hope someone out there can - they usually do.
    thanks in advance

Windows media player 9 is still available and downloadable for mac, there's just no updates. Flip4mac is a terrible piece of software in my experience.
Do you have Aladdin Stuffit Expander installed? It sounds like you're missing that to expand the download file. Once you have installed Windows media player, then Safari will use it automatically [which is highly recommended as myself and plenty others have found the other to be impossible to use].
Here's the link and down at the bottom of the page you'll find the instructions with the link to Stuffit expander.

  • Installing windows media player 9

I trying installing windows media player 9 but it will not install after the downloading
    Any ideas or help

As mentioned, F4M is a better alternative to WMP since Microsoft is no longer updating WMP for Macs.
For everyday use, F4M is great. If you run into any files that won't play with it, I suggest you take a look at VLC. It is a great program to have around since it plays just about anything you will run into.

  • Can't open .bin file (trying to install windows media player)

I'm trying to install windows media player on my brand new macbook pro. I downloaded the .bin file and have installed Stuffit Expander. When i try to open the .bin file, stuffit opens to the progress window and tells me that its preparing but nothing happens. it just freezes on me. i've openeother .bin files with no problem. How can I open this .bin file?
macbook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I hope you are aware that the Windows Media Player plug-in will not work with Safari because it's not a universal binary. Furthermore, WMP is no longer supported by Microsoft for the Mac. Instead you should download and install Flip4Mac (www.versiontracker.com or www.macupdate.com.)
Although the WMP plug-in for Safari will not work on an Intel Mac, the player will work fine through the Rosetta emulator. If you are insistent upon using WMP with Safari, then after you install WMP and the plug-in, select Safari's application icon, press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. Check the option "Open using Rosetta." This will force Safari to run as a PPC app.
If Stuffit Expander will not open the .bin archive then check to be sure you are using the current version of it. If you continue having problems then try using TheUnarchiver instead (www.versiontracker.com or www.macupdate.com.) It's also possible you have a defective download.

  • A video clip that works fine in windows media player but not in Premiere

I have an AVI video clip file that I recorded from an old VHS tape many years back. The file plays just fine in Windows Media Player but when I import it into the latest version of Premiere Pro CS6 the video portion shows nothing but a green screen. The audio track plays fine. I've tried using Adobe Media Encoder to change it into a variety of different formats. Some don't even produce a file and some do but don't work any differently than the original within Premiere. Any suggestions?
    thanx a bunch,

You will probably find better support about the features of the Webex app on their support page here: http://www.webex.com/products/web-conferencing/mobile-iphone-ipad-faq.html
Doesn;t look like it's listed as a feature of the iPad app.

  • Windows media Player suddenly can't read some of my MP3, and only with one user account !!!

    Hi!
    here is my problem:
I have a lot of MP3 in my W7 personnal computer at home. I read MP3 everyday with WMP and all was working fine, until some days ago. Some of my MP3 can't be read by WMP. I've looked at their properties, but there is nothing wrong, compared to others
    MP3 that I can read.
The "unreadable" files are correctly read by VLC. So they are not corrupted.
When I swtich to an other user, the same MP3 are read correctly with WMP. (Both usersd are admins)
My MP3 are présents on two computers at home. When I connect from my second computer with a
\\computername\c$, I can read these files. So the files are definitivly OK. But when I connect from my first computer to the second one, I can't read the MPS that have the same name! it's absolutely strange!
I've tried to uninstall WMP, to delete all files related to WMP in my Appdata folder, I have even tried the FixIt from Microsoft, but any of these steps were helpful.
I've copied the "unreadable" files from the Music folder to my desktop, allways the same issue.
I've disabled my Antivirus, but without any results. I've tried the system restore, idem.
My computer is running W7 32 bits, SP1, all updates installed regularly.
Please help me, I want to understand what has happened!!! :)

    Hi Yolanda,
the error message is inside a popup: (French trnaslation) "Windows media Player encountered an error and will close." I have the choice beetween "CLOSE" and "HELP ON THE WEB".
Of course the "help" is totally useless....
I don't see any troublshooter related to "media player". The only troubleshooter where I can choose Media player is for the "compatibility mode", so it's not helpful. On the "audio and devices" troubleshooter I see "read
a DVD with Windows Media Player", but that's not my case.
I've already done the last step. I copy the MP3 from my second computer to the "problematic" one, and I can't read my file. But, on the second computer, i can read this MP3 so the issue is ONLY when I try to read this file with my Windows session.
(in the same computer, with the administrator session, I can read all the files).
To put it in a nutshell:
on computer A logged as CEDRIC i can not read the mp3 called SUPERSONG (it's an example lol)
on computer A logged as administrator, I can read the SUPERSONG
on computer B logged as CEDRIC (other local account but same name) I can read the SUPERSONG mp3 that is present in the music Library (that is not the same file, but it's a file with the same name, and of crouse this is the same song). (all my MP3 are copied
from computer A to computer B in case of failure on one of the computers)
on computer A logged as CEDRIC, if I do a
\\computerB\c$\...\SUPERSONG I can not read it.
I know this is complicated to explain, but if I ask to the Microsoft community that is because I don't know what to do ;) ;) ;)

  • Cannot install Windows Media Player 11 plugin. Not even manually

Since I can't install the Windows Media Player 11 plugin through the plugins section, I tried installing it manually from the link http://port25.technet.com/pages/windows-media-player-firefox-plugin-download.aspx multiple times and it still will not show up in about:plugins. I followed instructions from Firefox and rebooted after the install and still won't show up. I am using Windows 7 64 bit and have the latest version of Firefox. cannot play videos embedded in websites that support windows media streaming.

  • Cannot install windows media player

i downloaded windows media player for mac but cannot install it on my macbook pro. its giving me an error that it is not supported on this system. Is there an easy way to install it, or is there a version avaialbe for macbook pro?

Flip4Mac will not work on Intel Macs as its not Universal yet.
If anyone here wants a Universal plugin for WMV content and cannot wait for Flip4Mac to go Universal try Popwire Tech.

Its free for playback of WMV in QT but you have to pay if you want to encode to WMV.

  • Windows 7 Enterprise N SP1 64bit - inability to install Windows Media Player

    Hello,
For last two days I am strugling to install WMP on to W7 ENT SP1 N 64bit.
This is now driving me crazy - thats what I have done till now :
I have two machines installed with Win 7 Ent N SP1 64 bit.
On both there is no possibility to install Media Feature Pack (Windows6.1-KB968211-x64-RefreshPkg)
Installer stops on windows (installing update 1 from 1.......) and CBS.log is growing very fast during the "installation".
I have left PC for at least 10 hours but nothing happens (and CBS.log grew till 154 GB!!!!).
The other computer acts the same.
What I have tried till now :
    -sfc scan
    -chkdsk scan
    -renaming SoftwareDistribution folder
    -disabling antivirus
Finally I have performed "Windows Upgrade Repair" which allowed me to install the update manually on administrator account.
Unfortunatelly after restart - there was some info about reverting failed update ??? and "Media features" and Media Pack was gone. Tried again and the same thing happened. At the third time the installation stuck on "Installing update screen"
and CBS.log started to grow again,
All automatic updates can be installed without any issues.
I cannot understand why you makes all thing so complicated - turning simple installation files into updates which does not work.
    Please assist,
    Best Regards
    Greg

    Hi,
I was looking for all possible solution I could find before :
    - Clean boot - no effect
    - Manual installation - the only way I know to install this patch  - still failed
    - System Update Readiness Tool - detected no issues
    - sfc scan - no issues
    - fsutil resource setautoreset true
    C:\ - no effect
    - System Upgrade - no effect
    - all antivirus and firewall disabled - anyway I am trying to install this at offline patch
    - patch downloaded with different browsers
I will be appriciated for help. Is there any way to register all librarires related to WMP 12 manually ?
    Many Thanks
    Greg
I have come up with "workaround" - my issue was related to inability to run GTA V without proper WMP installation,
I have managed to copy some libraries from Windows 7 Enterprise 64 Bit /system32 folder and register them in my system. I have also copied Windows Media Player folder to my Program Files (x86).
Here is a list of dll's I have registered :
    mf.dll
    mfplat.dll
    mfreadwrite.dll
    WMASF.DLL
    wmcodecdspps.dll
    WMNetMgr.dll
    wmp.dll
    wmpcm.dll
    WmpDui.dll
    wmpdxm.dll
    wmpeffects.dll
    WMPEncEn.dll
    WMPhoto.dll
    wmploc.DLL
    wmpmde.dll
    wmpps.dll
    wmpshell.dll
    wmpsrcwp.dll
    wmsgapi.dll
    WMSPDMOD.DLL
    WMSPDMOE.DLL
    WMVCORE.DLL
    WMVDECOD.DLL
    wmvdspa.dll
    WMVENCOD.DLL
    WMVSDECD.DLL
    WMVSENCD.DLL
    WMVXENCD.DLL
I know it was a long shot but it works :) Now GTA V is running :)
To bulk register these dll's i have used a following code saves as a *.cmd file (all you need to do is to drag&drop libraries onto this file)
    @echo off
    echo registering files....
    :check
    if not test%1==test goto run
    goto end
    :run
    echo registering:   %1  .....
    regsvr32 "%1" /s
    shift
    goto check
    :end
    pause
    exit
    That is it,
Hopefully someone will not be forced to sit 40 hours and think what to do when Medai feature pack cannot be installed.
Still it would not be easier to get normal WMP installer ? Instead of that I had to struglle with one update which god knows why cannot be installed.
    P.S.
It will not allow to run Windows Media Player !!!! It will just allow to play GTA V which needs some WMP libraries to run.
    Best Regards
    Greg

  • Windows Media Player no sound while playing a avi file in server and client connection using TCP/IP connection

    Hello there
I have a problem with my windows media player while using server and client connection by using TCP/IP connection. So when I play a video using Windows Media Player in LabVIew there isn't any sound come out but when I'm playing a video by a Windows Media Player only the sound will come out. Can you help me solve this problem?

    Hi ican,
I was looking at your VI's but I cannot seem to pinpoint exactly where you are using Windows Media Player.  In order to more quickly assist you, could you please recreate this issue more concisely in a smaller set of VIs.  Also, were you able to get sound when you did not use the TCP/IP connection and simply played the files in LabVIEW?
I noticed in a few places that you were using the Play Sound File.VI from the Graphics and Sounds palette.  Is that what you are refering to?  I noticed there that the file path that you have designated for the song is simply the song title.  Instead, this should be a path to where the song is located on your computer.
Also, if you are planning on using Windows Media Player, have you considered using the ActiveX commands for Windows Media Player?  Here are a few examples if you are unfamiliar with this functionality.
    Example 1 and Example 2.
    I hope this helps!

  • Installing Windows Media Player

I can see Windows media Player in the Applications folder but when I try and play a video I get a message "NO MEDIA PLAYER DETECTED." Can anyone help??

    Hello,
It sounds like your Media Player installation may be corrupted.
    Perhaps re-installing it will help.
Drag that copy of Media Player to the trash can (and empty the trash). Then, download and install the latest version from:
You can download the English version directly here:
Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X (English Version)
All the other languages / versions can be downloaded here:
Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X website
Microsoft is no-longer supporting Windows Media Player for the Mac. But, the version 9 does run just fine in OS X 10.4.x.
Again, you'll want to drag any copy of Windows Media Player to the trash (and empty the trash) before you install the latest version.
    I hope this helps.

  • How do I install Windows Media Player on iBook

I have downloaded Windows Media Player to my desktop, but do not know how to find an appropiate progam in which to install it with. I would very much like to satch sports over the internet and Windows media palyer is required for most of my current subscriptions.
Forgive my ignorance, as it is my first day with an iBook or any Mac for that matter. (Really prefer it over my past PC's thus far)
    Thanks to all.

Stuffit Expander is required to open the WMP download
any many others you'll encounter while using a Mac.
    It's available free from Stuffit.com.
    Thanks. Will do.
