Hi,
it looks like the VIPs you used are already taken in your network or the name resolution on the VIP name does not return the correct IP address for the VIP, hence the problems.

Do anybody came accross this issue? I had 11gR2 Grid Infrastructure installed on this server, but for demostration to other team members, I removed the earlier installation using Metalink Note :942166.1. I will appreciate your input.

ShailandraHi,
One of the recommended solution for this issue by Oracle.
Have the DISPLAY variable set when running root.sh. This is the th recommendation by oracle to a SR opened by another vendor for this issue.

Install 11gR2 grid infrastructure
Hi,
I installing grid infrastructure on SINGLE INSTANCE.
I would like to know what is the difference between the following option in the runInstaller :
1 ) Install and configured grid infrastructure for standalone server
2) Install grid infrastructure sogtware onlyThanksHi,
Option 1 will install the Grid Infrastruture and also configure the ASM disks.
Option 2 will install the Grid Infrastructure binaries only. You have the configure the ASM on your own.

11gR2 Grid Infrastructure and 11gR2 RAC install as separate users (RH 5)
We are about to set up a few new RH 5 clusters and are trying to make a decision if we should install 11gR2 Grid Infrastructure and 11gR2 RAC as the same user (oracle) or as separate users (grid and oracle) as per Oracle documentation.
I would like to know what other people are doing and their experiences with this.
Here are some concerns that we have:
1) Does Oracle support has an 11gR2 cluster environment where grid infrastructure and oracle database are installed as separate users ? I have been to a few Oracle 11gR2 demos and they always have a simple install where everything is installed as a single user.
2) Potential permission issues that we might hit iif we use separate users, for example
- grid control agent - which user do we install it as and will it be able to access both grid and oracle files ?
- database listener will run as grid user. Is this going to cause any permission issues ?
Thanks in advance for your answersIt is all dependent on your business whether your business needs to separate between privileged user for storage administrator (ASM) or database level. It is recommended to have user separation but not mandatory.
see http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e17212/toc.htm for the details
permission issues might happen if the configuration is not correct. for example you might see ORA-12537 when configuring the system
Hope this helps -
How to install oracle 11gR2 Grid Infrastructure for standalond server
Hi Experts,
we do not want to install ASM. under this condition, does any expert install oracle 11gR2 Grid Infrastructure for standalone server in Linux 5 at file system?
Please share tip and experiences of installed oracle 11gR2 as single instance include install oracle 11gR2 Grid Infrastructure for standalone server in Linux 5. no one node RAC configuration.
If we do not install 11gR2 Grid Infrastructure for standalone server . which function will be lost? restat server only?
Thanks
JimGrid Infrastructure automatically uses Oracle Restart as default if you're installing Standalone. You can turn this off using crsctl ('disable has', I believe).
According to the inference in the install docs (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e16763/oraclerestart.htm#CIHCBGCC), you can install 11gR2 without Grid Infrastructure, but you lose ASM and Restart. -

Install Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11g Release 2 - Yes or No???
Hello,
We are setting up a new OEM Grid 12c system on Linux x86-64. We want to use it to manage several stand-alone, non-RAC, non-ASM database machines. The docs are unclear - do we have to install Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11g Release 2 on any of the database machines, including the machine that will support the OEM repository database, or not? Again, no plans to run Oracle Restart or Oracle ASM or Oracle RAC on that machine or any others.
The docs are not clear and we need a definitive answer.
Thank you, TLHello, OTN gurus.
Thanks for your attention to my original post. However, I am asking about a specific installation package called "Oracle Grid Infrastructure", which is separate from OEM Grid 12c and Oracle Database, and is supposed to be installed in its own home directory before the Oracle database software is installed in its oracle_home. "Oracle Grid Infrastructure" is also supposed to be installed in a different oracle_home from the OEM 12c Agent and a different oracle_home from Oracle Database, under specific conditions.
The docs say that you need Oracle Grid Infrastructure installed first in order to implement Oracle Restart and Oracle ASM for the Database. Other docs say you also need it for OEM Grid software. The docs are confusing on this point. I do not need Oracle Restart or Oracle ASM. I want to avoid installing this separate product, called Oracle Grid Infrastructure if I can. Does anyone know if a simple environment of Oracle Database 11gR2 (11.2.0.3), managed by OEM 12c OMS and Agents, requires "Oracle Grid Infrastructure"?
Thanks, TL -
Hi I will be installing 11gr2 on rhel6 and have a question.
Since I need to install the gird infrastructure for before the rdbms and the grid infrastructure will be installed using the user grid as opposed to the oracle user id I am wanting to know if I need to configured multiple Oracle_base directories?
I usually would just create /u01/app/oracle and set that as the oracle_base. Can I use that for grid(infrastructure) and oracle (rdbms) for both installations. I have read the install guides and unfortunately it is still unclear to me. I am planning to install rac database.
Thanks for any hekp it is greatly appreciated. In 11gr2, Grid infrastructure software contains both clusterware and ASM.
Prior to 11g, we used to have 3 ORACLE_HOMES one for cluster, ASM and rdbms.
For eg:
In 11g r2, Your RAC binaries set up could be like this:
Grid Infrastructure Software (Clusterware + ASM 11.2.0.1):
Server: on all RAC nodes
ORACLE_BASE: /u01/app/grid
ORACLE_HOME: /u01/app/grid112
Owner: grid (Primary Group: oinstall, Secondary Group: asmadmin, asmdba)
Oracle Database Software (RAC 11.2.0.1):
Server: on all RAC nodes
ORACLE_BASE: /u01/app/oracle
ORACLE_HOME: /u01/app/oracle/db112
Owner: oracle (Primary Group: oinstall, Secondary Group: dba) -
Install a grid infrastructure for a cluster for single node Windows Server
Hello,
Can you suggest me how to install a Oracle Single Node RAC 11g on a Windows Server 2008 x64 bits? It's for testing purposes and I don't need two nodes. I know that Linux is better, but my company only uses Windows servers. Our former consultant was able to do it, but didn't tell us how to and that server was lost.
I know that we have to install first Grid Infrastructure. Running the "Oracle Grid Infrastructure" installer, I could successfully install a "Grid Infrastructure for a Standalone Server". But that grid is not for a RAC database. When trying to install the Database software, it allowed to me to only install "Single instance database", not "Real Application Cluster database installation".
Running the "Oracle Grid Infrastructure" installer, I tried to select option:
"Install and Configure Grid Infrastructure for a Cluster" -> Typical Installation:
SCAN Name: SRVORAC-cluster
Validating SCAN information
INS-40922 Invalid SCAN Name - unresolvable to IP address.
Is it possible to install a grid infrastructure for a cluster for a single-node or one-node Windows Server ?
Edited by: user521219 on Jan 30, 2012 12:46 PMHI,
You probably have misconception about Single node RAC. This feature does not need that you have only one physical machine in a RAC, it actually means that in a RAC environment (2 or more nodes), you can run your database on only one node(single instance) and then later you can move this single instance to any other node of the RAC (so that you can do some patching on this node making your database available all the time). This also has some other benefits, see bellow.

Install of grid infrastructure @ win 2008 server
hello!
i'm a newbie on oracle rac/grid and so i think there will be an easy answer to my question. i want to install oracle grid infrastructure on windows 2008 (r2) with asm on a san storage.
i worked through a lot of tutorials, but till now i didn't manage to find the san in the "create ASM disk group" dialog (installation of grid infrastructure). i think i have to change the "discovery path", but i don't know how.
which additional information is needed so that someone can help me?
thx in advance!
best regards,
christiansorry, but i overlooked that i have to use asmtool.exe to stamp the disks for oracle asm!

11gR2 grid infrastructure hangs at 93% when checcking user mask!
Hello Folks,
I have a weird situation over here!
I have setup 2 nodes solaris 10 to install grid infrastructure 11gR2/ASM and RAC DB later.
I have setup them according to the install guide including kernel..project..env..umask..network interfaces..SCAN IP which resolves to 3 IPs which is registered in our DNS.
I have run the CLUVFY and it went fine..Then I started the OUI..all was good till it reaches the PREREQUISITES screen..it always start the checking here and gets stuck at 93% (CHECKING USER MASK ...) which is absolutely configured right:
--As oracle user (From both nodes):
$ umask

Please advise.

OEL 5.3 guest wouldn't boot after installing 11gR2 grid - fixed
Ran into this twice so I thought I'd post it:
- standard OEL 5.3 64bit template
- Using the public Oracle yum repo and install the unixODBC pkgs and possibly a couple others that the installer is looking for.
- Configure ASM via manually adding a storage volume, fdisk'ing it, udev'ing it and "service oracleasm configure" - ASM is happy, installer sees the ASM storage
- runInstaller using the 11.2.0.1 11gR2-GridInfrastruture.zip downloaded from Oracle
- Installer does it's thing, no errors. +ASM is up and running just fine.
- reboot - not so much - grub is pointing to a non-existant kernel. OVS blows this (confusing) error:

Fix for me is: Do this on the host -->
mkdir /x
mount -t ext3 -o loop,rw,offset=32256 /OVS/running_pool/<xx_broken_guest>/System.img /x
cd /x/grub
ls -la grub*
mv grub.conf grub.conf-bad
cp grub.conf.orabackup grub.conf
cd /
umount /x
Then you can startup the guest. You can do it manually if you want to watch it by -->
xm create -c /OVS/running_pool/66_cnvdb01/vm.cfgThe lights/fans powering up for a split second and going back out every time you try to turn the PC on = PSU going in to protection mode due to a fault or short, most likely in the board.
Given MSI's track record lately, I would bet you fried at least one of the MOSFETs...this is a common problem on the 890fx they're producing, not sure if it is happening with their other models. Unplug the 4 or 8pin cpu power from the board and hit the power button. System won't boot, but the lights/fans should come on. If they do, the MOSFETs are junk and you'll need a new board.
Another possibility is you are grounding out the board somewhere it shouldn't be grounded. Remove the board, check the back of it and make sure it is not contacting the case anywhere. Check all the board standoffs to make sure they are mounted securely to the case, check all the board mounting screws to make sure they are threading in to the standoffs correctly and that you didn't overtighten any and damage the board.
The "flicker" is usually one of the above issues, but could also be a bad PSU, bad CPU, bad RAM, etc. You could try booting with one stick of RAM at a time, without the video card, etc, try to use a process-of-elimination to figure out what the faulty part is. If installing the new cooler caused this, the problem would have likely shown itself right away instead of waiting a day or two. -

Too many LISTENER processes (11gR2 Grid Infrastructure (2 nodes))
Greetings -
I get an alert that says that my LISTENER is down (EM Alert Details). It suggests a corrective action
to stop the current running LISTENER and start it again using the listener parameter (listener.ora) from
the database (RDBMS) home. There are two (2) LISTENER processes running (ps -ef | grep LISTENER) .
One process is running from the grid home and the other from the database home however only
the one running from the grid home has a listener parameter file (listener.ora) there are no others.
To confuse me even further the documentation says that I should not set the 'local_listener' parameter
and that the Oracle Agent will maintain this setting.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks in advance.
BrianThanks Rodrigo,
That was VERY helpful.
I disabled the old listener and then
I was able to create a new listener with the correct settings.
I can see the instances on each node using this
expression.
lsnrctl status NEW_LISTENER
However this shows on the first node that +ASM1, DM3, DM31
are available on the second node I see only +ASM2 but nothing else.
I was expecting DM3, DM32 .
Now when I first created the new listener I read that the 'local_listener'
setting need NOT be set. When I attemptied to unset that parameter then
I lost the local instances. I reset the local_listener as before
and the local instance on node one returned. Not on node two however.
My question: Do I need to set the 'local_listener' on each instance to the same
value or to different values to reflect which node they are configured for ?
I cannot see it now but I remember there is a section that references the
first node 'node_one-vip' .
Should the second node's local_listener section be 'node_two-vip' ?
Now if it need not be set this then something else has to occur to make it work.
Sorry for not being more brief,
Brian
