  • Ipod mini for mac to pc

hello everybody i apology in advance for my question but ive read through the forum and i cant find an answer.
i have ipod mini for mac and im going to give it as a present to my cousin, now she has a pc and i dont know if it will work..can anybody tell me?
    thanks

I'm not really sure why they asked you that question really.
There's a difference in file systems between Mac and PC and Windows cannot read the Mac system, hence the need to reformat it.
When the mini was first realeased it could be that iPods were pre formatted for each system (I can't really remember), so that's why they asked you.
Nowadays, they're all Windows formatted out of the box.

  • Error message when installing ipod on my mac mini:

"You cannot install ipod on this volume. This installer does not contain support for your system language."
This is the message I get when I try to load from the cd or the net the ipod software on my mac mini. As far as I am aware my language is set to english.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi Paul. Two more things:
    - Click the Apple logo and run Software Update. Update everything. Restart.
    - If this still doesn't solve the problem, install Cocktail. Cocktail is a maintenance program for your Mac. You can install it here:
    http://www.macosxcocktail.com/
In Cocktail, run the"Pilot" option. After it is finished, restart.
    Best of luck,

  • Vista won't install Ipod Mini - PLEASE HELP!!

Latest version of Itunes 7.4.2 has been installed, Windows Vista has located Ipod mini in "other devices" in "Device Manager", but it won't install the Ipod. I've reinstalled Itunes three times and searched the Windows Vista disk and various internet forums, but with no luck.
I'm on the verge of selling the ipod - any advice would be welcome.
    Thanks

I suggest either getting a Mac or going back to Windows XP because Vista is known to have these problems.

  • Problem installing ipod mini hardware error msg

Installed software ok but when I connect ipod mini to USB 2.0 I get "Found new hardware wizard. There was a problem installing this hardware: apple ipod usb device. An error occurred during the installation of the device. One of the filter drivers installed for this device is invalid." If I click finish I get a pop up at bottom saying" A problem occurred during installation. Your new hardware might not work properly." Click out of that and my ipod and itunes works ok. How do I correct this nusance? Tried reloading 3 times now, same results. Brand new to ipod.

hey, i finally figured out how to do it! i had the same frustrating problem as you until just a moment ago : ) This is what you need to do:
    1) Reset your iPod Mini by holding down on the Menu and the Select button until the Apple appears.
    2) Plug it into your computer, windows and mac should be the same for that
    3) Go into the iPod Updater and update the software : ) should work... if you need anything else, just ask or go to the following:

  • IPod mini - USB - mac mini

The iPod mini is visible on a
    mac mini, OS X 10.3.9, iTunes 4.7
    but is not on a
    mac mini, OS X 10.4.2, iTunes 4.9
My assumption is that there is a problem with the OS?
Seems similar to 10.3 to 10.3.3 which did not detect iPod
    minis either.
Can anyone confirm this? If so, what can I do but reverting to
    10.3.9 ?

Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens or doesn't happen.

  • Installing ipod mini to PC

my little sister got an ipod mini today and we are having trouble getting it to connect with the PC.

Try this instead of using the supplied installation CD.
Download the iPod Updater, install this to your computer, restart the computer, run the Updater, then connect your iPod when prompted (not before), then follow the set up procedure.

  • Installing iPod mini Softw my PC says not enough space onHD

Hi, 1st time posting; I'm surprised by the huge amount of troubles people are experiencing with iPod mini. THE PROBLEM: my daughter bought iPod mini (4Gb) in July in the US (we live in Italy). When I try to install on my old PC the software from the installation disk that came with it , this message comes out: "Out of disk space. Disk space required for the installation exceeds available disk space. Volume 'C' required space 34.626 Kb: available space 18.840 Kb. Error 1603". My OS is installed on the HD "C" where I see 90Mb of free space. I've also tried to redirect the installation to the other HD "D" drive with 3Gb of free space that was reformatted before the installation, but with the same error message. I also disabled the antivirus. Any help for my iPod mini? Thank u very much

Your old PC probably doesn't meet the requirements that the installation cd requires. Your old PC might not have room for the mini files.
How about deleting stuff you don't need and then trying again?

  • Using iPod Mini with Mac and PC

Has anyone had any experience switching back and forth between a Mac and a PC with the iPod? I've only used a Mac with my iPod Mini, but I will be taking a business trip and will be taking my PC laptop. I'd like to be able to recharge the iPod battery and access the playlists located on the PC while traveling, but when the iPod was connected to the laptop, I got a message stating that the iPod would need to be reformatted--something I hadn't thought about before. I didn't reformat it, because I wanted to check to see if anyone had any experiences with problems due to back and forth reformatting. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks so much for the info! I wasn't aware of that.

  • Email iPod mini and Mac

Hi. I have seen other people ask this question and not been answered so I will try to be the exception.
I got my wife an iPod mini for Christmas to replace her kindle fire. One major reason I did this was because she said she wanted her email on her mobile device.
I just configured it last night according to the instructions, and each email is still only appearing on one device - depends on which one sees it first.
(BTW - Mimi's email confit screen looks nothing like the screenshots from Mac support. )
    Any help would be appreciated.

if it's pop3 email then you have to set it not to delete the mails when downloading them

  • Installed ipod mini battery...easy as pie

If you were thinking of sending in your ipod mini for a new battery or even purchasing a new one from Apple, don't. I just installed a new battery in five minutes. I'm not terribly handy, so if I can do it, anyone can. I paid less than $15 for a kit on line (many resources for this available). So, if you are still OK with your mini and need a new battery, do it yourself for heaven's sake.

Sorry the delayed response. I received instructions and tools with the battery, but you can view a video here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XULR7z8vFec&eurl=http://video.google.com/videosea rch?q=new%20battery%20for%20ipod%20mini&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozi.

  • Installing ipod mini on new computer, HELP!

Our old computer died, literally. Just got a new one. Installed itunes and plugged in our ipod. Asked if we wanted to override exisitng library with new (which has no songs, ofcourse we said no.)We have no way of deauthorizing the other itunes on the old computer, and that won't allow us to sync or transfer any of our music library. Is there a way to do this??? Anyone????? I'm getting so frustrated!@!!!

First of all you need to authorise your new computer to play your purchases. After that, connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iRepo Mac and Windows
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Itunes 4 locked up after installing ipod-mini!

I just bought a new i-pod mini for a trip (I leave in 3 hours!), and after hooking it up and installing all of the songs in my itunes (which worked), my i-tunes totally crashed. Whenever I try to launch it now, it says:
"The itunes 4 music library file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permissin for this file"
I ran the disk utility, and repaired all permissions. No change.
    Please help!

I also had the same problem - Gen 1 iPad and after repeatedly bugging me about the update & not wanting to do it. I went to get an iBook and it told me that it couldnt deliver the book until I updated. I relented and it just hangs up. After 4 attempts to restore it get an error -
"iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes."
obviously restore means delete and reset to factory settings, loose all my data etc etc
"The iPad cannot be restored at this time because the iPad server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable" Please try again later."
"The iPad could not be restored. An Unknown error occured (1603)" - So click more information and I get a web page at apple GRRRRRRRRRRRRR  .... http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275
Seriously - I have no idea how Apple succeeds at deliverying this device as mission critical or for any real business use. Its a crash happy device even without updates but now its just a dust collector. Nearest apple store is 120 miles away.

  • HELP - Cant install iPod MINI

I am furious - spent all day with my birthday present. Doesn't work. While trying to install. I start the software on the CD, then plug in the iPod (software states that iPod is connected) then it states that it is checking for formatting - within seconds a dialog box pops up:
    "iPodDeviceInternal assert"
    assertion b failed at .\iPodDeviceCommon.cpp line 166
    What do I do?

Yes... you have a virus on your PC that alters how EXE files operate.
Either update your virus definitions and scan your WHOLE PC or since (more likely) you don't have a virus program, download the free one at
    http://free.grisoft.com
Make sure you update it and scan it.
While you are at it, get the Microsoft Anti Spyware at
