Installing Leopard 10.5.1 and then updating OS

I have a new Macbook Pro and I need to install Leopard 10.5.1 for software compatibility reasons. I tried doing an install of Leopard 10.5.1 last night but it appeared not to work. Can I install Leopard 10.5.1 and then do the updates on my Macbook Pro? If so, what are the steps that I was missing the first time around?
Thanks

Ok, you got me there. Missed that change. There are limitations, however. Here is the Apple KB article about it --> http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1948
Note the warnings at the top of the article:
Intel-based Macs support starting from an external USB storage device's volume that:
* Has been formated with a GUID partition type
* Contains an installation of Mac OS X 10.4.5 or later, or Mac OS X 10.5 or later, which is compatible with (or shipped with) the Mac that the USB device is connected to. Note: You should not use a version of Mac OS X that is earlier ("older") than the version your Mac shipped with.

     Hi Shada this can happen if you are including additional installers to your installer for example DAQmx. When you are doing this the installer has to include other files like MAX (Measuremente and Automation Explorer). Probably when you installed Vision Builder it updated MAX, so when your installer is trying to Include MAX, its asking for the source where it was installed in your computer in this case Vision Builder.
     Here you can cache the information so its not asked again, or you can download a newer version fo DAQmx, so it will update MAX and change de dependecy.

  • How can I use wget, cron and Automator to periodically pull a dynamic image from a URL to local storage, and then update a Keynote slide with that image, automatically?

    How can I use wget, cron and Automator to periodically pull an image from a URL (which is dynamically updated - like a weather map, say - to local storage, and then update a Keynote slide with that image, automatically?

    Any particular reason for those specific technologies?  wget does not exist on a mac, although you can nstall it I guess.  OS X has curl installed which should do pretty much anything you want to do with wget.  cron is being replaced by launchd, although cron still exists on mountain lion.
    As far as I can tell from automator all the standard 'actions' to access keynote  available to it require keynote to be open and running, but does not provide a function to actually open it.  So I think you will have to write some applescript, as a minimum to open and quit keynote. I notice that the keynote actions are mostly circa 2005 an wonder if they would even work.
    Under utilities in automator 'actions' there is a capability to add applescripts as part of the workflow.
    Also, note that cron is being dprecated by Apple and replaced by launchd.  that said cron is stil on my mountain lion instalation.
    This entry at stackoverflow shows use of cron with curl to get web urls.  http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1683620/getting-started-with-cronjobs-on-a-ma c
    If I have any time I may try and get this to work as it is quite interesting and new to me.  But otherwise, good luck.

  • IBook G4 "slowed" SIGNIFICANTLY afte installing OSX 10.4.8 and then 10.4.9

    Hi,
    My iBook G4 slowed SIGNIFICANTLY after installing OSX 10.4.8 and then 10.4.9 and freezes often too!!!
    I mean, it takes a few minuets to boot-up sometimes.... I hate that spinning wheel!
    It ran great before the two up-dates, and I have done all the "verify and repair" that can possibly be done with and without the original installation DVD.
    Basically, can I revert to 10.4.7???
    Or, is there a simple solution?

    First let's take a step back and have a look at your upgrade procedures. Here is one suggestion of how to proceed:
    Mac OS X 10.4.9: Update procedure recommendation
    First, make a full backup of your current Mac OS X installation -- preferably a clone ( try SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner). If something goes wrong, or you experience a major incompatibility after updating, the backup will prove invaluable.
    Next, if you are the cautious type, run a disk repair on the volume targeted for installation. You can use an n alternative startup drive or your Mac OS X installation disc. If you are starting up from your Mac OS X install disc, put the disc in your optical drive and restart holding down the "C" key. After your system starts up and you've selected your language, go to the "Utilties" menu and select "Disk Utility." Use the "Repair Disk" function. After disk repairs are complete, restart from your normal startup drive and continue.
    Avoid performing any other operations (in Mac OS X or third-party applications) while the update process is occurring. Performing other tasks during the update process potentiates various issues, including problems with prebinding (which is happening during the "Optimizing the system" phase of the update process) and others that can occur when files are being replaced by the update are also being read/written by the currently logged in user. You should not only refrain from launching applications or working with files during the update process, but also from putting the system to sleep, disconnecting/connecting devices, and other potentially interruptive actions.
    In addition, before installing the update, make sure all Apple-installed applications and utilities are in their original locations. Moving one of these applications to a different location on your hard drive can lead to an incomplete update. Also, disconnect any FireWire/USB devices before applying Mac OS X 10.4.9 (except for your startup drive, if it is FireWire or USB, and your keyboard/mouse), then re-connect the devices one by one (checking for issues created by any particular device) after the update process is complete and the system has restarted. Also, note that the first restart after applying Mac OS X 10.4.9 may be abnormally long. Subsequent restarts should take place at normal speed.

  • How I can edit and then update multiple rows via JSP to Action Class?

    Hi All,
    I have a JSP page which allows users to edit the some properties for all Object returned by the db. They can then submit the changes to a Action Class which i.e.
    <form action="/SaveUserNames">
    <table>
    <c:forEach items='${requestScope["users"]}' var='user'>
    <tr align="center">
    <td><input type="text" name="userBean[ i ].firstname" value="..."/></td>
    <td><input type="text" name="userBean[ i ].surname" value="..."/></td>
    </tr>
    </c:forEach>
    <tr>
    <td><button type="submit">Save</button></td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    </form>
    In the ActionForm, there is a method, which would allow the Struts code to update my beans with the data the user editted:
    public UserBean getUserBean(int i) {
    return userBeanList.item(i);
    Although I am not sure how I can update the beans in the Action Class with what the user submitted.
    Can somebody help me for this point or can me suggest any design pattern to solve this points?
    Thanks
    Amit

    Fetch values for each user data and put into a Hashtable and then update.
    Userid is the key
    User related data is the bean (like firstname, lastname, age, job, etc), so you have ArrayList of user bean.

    Can MyRoll app work to arrange a plenty of labeled photos on iOS7 and then updating to iOS8?
    So, freely; to be running the latest OS.

    Since Numbers version 2.5 for IOS, the app updates the file format of the spreadsheet, so that it can't be opened by earlier versions of Numbers, regardless of the IOS version. I tested this myself. I created a spreadsheet using the latest version of Numbers on my iPad Mini running IOS 8.1.1. Then found I could not open the spreadsheet on my iPad Air with Numbers version 2.4 running the same version of IOS 8.1.1 or on my MacBook Air running Mavericks.
    Spreadsheets created with the latest version of Numbers can only be opened by Numbers 2.5 or later, or on Macs running Yosemite.

    Keaten wrote:
    Yea I would have to say wait until the release of IOS 5, because the phone will probably run it a lot smoother. I mean go ahead and buy the Iphone 4 if you are dying to have it, because you can just update it which is no big deal at all, but it would be the smarter thing to wait for the new updates.
    And the networ issue as far as I am aware is fixed on the Verizon iPhones, so it really depends on which service you have.
    - correct me if i am wrong
    Have to disagree here, Apple have not even announced an iphone 5, it is pointless to speculate that we will see one or not see one until Apple actually releases a statement. ios was built and tested on the iphone 4 so there will not be any slowdown or laggyness compared to a phone that has not been released yet.
    If we are advising potential apple product buyers then we should not be putting them off buying a iphone 4 on speculations alone. Just because apple have for the last few years released an iphone every june/july does not mean then have to stick to this approach.
    Apple have not issued any statement regarding an iphone 5, until this time it does not exist, only in heresay on the internet.
    Any one looking to get an iphone 4, to you i would say waiting until ios 5 is released is a personal choice, no matter if you wait or not you will be able to update via itunes. One way or another in the future you will have to do an ios update via itunes whether this is the 5.0 software or 5,2,1.
    Please note that Apple are very closed mouthed about new hardware releases and potentially a new iphone could be round the corner, however there is no evidence to suggerst this, i.e Apple have not even mentioned an iphone 5 this year anything you hear towards the contrary is media spin thus far and speculation.
    ios 5 was built and tested to work seamlessly on iphone 4, the beta software released to developers is being tested on iphone 4. Please do not listen to people telling you that the iphone 4 will not run this ios as well as a phone that does not exist yet. When iphone 5 launches it will most likely have dual processors and not until its launch will the next gen apps start appearing.

  • Possible to Install Leopard on External HD and Boot on Another Mac?

    Is it possible to install the Leopard upgrade DVD onto an External HD, AND THEN use the external HD to boot Leopard onto another Mac? Also, since the upgrade disc is an "upgrade," would I have to first install Tiger onto the External HD?
    If possible...
    Am I able to create an External Boot Drive that can boot both onto a PPC Mac and also onto an Intel Mac? Or will I have to create separate partitions?
    Lastly, can Intel Macs boot from an External USB Drive? Or are FireWire Drives required? Thanks!

    Yes, you can install on an external drive and boot the Mac. I do it all the time.
    I'm not 100% sure whether the same drive can boot PPC and Intel Macs -- I don't think so because PPC macs require Mac formatting and Intel Macs require GPT formatting to boot.
    Intel Macs can boot off both USB and Firewire external drives. PPC Macs can only boot off Firewire external drives. In any case, Firewire is better as it's quite a bit faster.

  • I have iTunes installed on an external drive and the update broke it

    I updated iTuneswithout researching and nowit's broken... again.
    I have it installed on an external harddrive, and now every time I try to run it, it starts an 'Autoplay' loop where the system scans ALL THE FILES on the harddrive, and then says: "This Disk or Device contains more than one type of content. What do you want Windows to do?"
    I'm attemting a 'Repair' to see if I can fix it, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Also, please note, prior to running through the autoplay loop, it opens for all of 15 seconds before it quits with no messages.

    This is sometimes caused by a problem with the iTunesPrefs.xml file, normally found at C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunesPrefs.xml. Try dragging this to the desktop and trying again.
    Alternatively the problem may be that you have McAfee AV and it is preventing iTunes from updating the same file and thus causing the problem. See Why does iTunes delete my itunesprefs.xml? for details.

  • So I installed leopard on my g5, and nothing changed.....

    Okay, well, I suppose some things changed, but many features I'm supposed to now have, aren't there for me to use.
    I have an imac g5, I got it a few years ago, and I decided to purchase and install leopard because I was really looking forward to the video feature in imovie hd that lets me record isight (something I couldn't do with my older version of imovie) The installation went fine with no problems, however upon starting to use leopard I found that though I had the new imovie, there was no way to record isight.
    I set the file to a "isight" file, but when I moved it to camera it still gave me the "no camera connected" I thought this was odd, because my sister also installed this update on her laptop awhile ago, and the camera worked fine.
    Going to other programs, I loaded ichat, curious to see what the "new background" feature was you could get behind you and found that though the options WERE there, I couldn't click on them, or access them at all.
    The video feature in iphoto also shuts iphoto down completely, keeping me from running that. (Iphoto also runs SO MUCH SLOWER.)
    Infact, my whole computer runs quite noticeably slower. And though I assumed I'd get used to it at first, it is just really too slow for me to handle.
    So, did I do something wrong? Why is it that although I have these new programs they don't work or have the features they are supposed to? And is there anything I can do to fix this and speed up my slow computer?
    Thank you very much. I'm not sure if I provided the correct information to be helped (see username) but if more information is needed please tell me so I can attempt to clarify.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    A few things to clairly.
    1. Leopard does not include a new version of iMovie. What are you talking about?
    2. How much RAM (memory) does your iMac have?
    3. You only seem to be mentioning iLife apps (iMovie, iPhoto, iDVD, iWeb, and Garageband make up iLife). Are you talking about an upgrade to iLife '08? Leopard is an operating system, and it does not include iMovie or iPhoto.
