Installing Leopard 10.5.6 in a MAC PRO

Hello, I hae an issue installin this new Leopard 10.5.6 into my Mac Pro, everytime I insert the CD so i can install it I start getting a bunch of lines and color all over the screens and right after that it freezes, now im installing it in a brand new hard drive 500GB 16 Cache, Serial ATA etc...
I decided to install my old version of 10.4 on this computer and it works just fine and I didn't get any weird lines or colors and not even froze on me and I can work just fine but again I inserted the New Leopard 10.5.6 CD to upgrade it and I start getting this lines and colors again and I end up doing nothing but upset.
My question is: Reading the requirements for Leopard 10.5.6 I'm O.k all the way with compatibly, I have:
Dual-Core Intel Xeon 2GHz Each
L2 Cache 4MB
Memory 9GB
Bus Speed: 1.33GHz
500GB Hard Drive 7200 RPM's ATA serial SATA
Anyone that can help me, I'll appreciate it a lot

Dumb question first. Do you really mean a CD and not DVD?
You're clearly getting some kind of video issue as the Mac reads the disk. Question is, why? Your Mac more than meets the requirements for Leopard.
Shut down the Mac and unplug it. Leave it without power for at least a minute, then plug it back in. Start it up and immediately hold down the CommandOption+PR keys to zap the PRAM. Continue holding the keys through three startup chimes, then release the keys. Does it start up properly to the Leopard disk now?

  • HT1338 Why can't I install Leopard for PowerPC on my old Mac Mini?

Why can't I install Leopard for PowerPC on my old Mac Mini? The massage "This can not be installed on this computer" appears.

My thoughts are that your difficulties could be one of these:
your non-retail DVD may only work on a very limited range of Mac minis
the installer may not like your new RAM
the installer may not like the language change especially if the disk has not been erased first
I have seen a little evidence for 3 in the code of other Leopard install DVDs - they appear to have less stringent language checks for erased volumes. Whilst I have never modified model specific installers I have modified retail installers to ignore speed and RAM checks.
    My advice:
back up your whole mini hard disk to an external disk - see notes
erase the hard disk and partition into 2 volumes with Leopard install DVD
try to install Leopard on one volume
put original OS on the other volume
    Notes:
Carbon Copy Cloner can be used to backup the whole hard disk
ensure the mini can be booted from the external disk before you erase the internal disk

  • How can I install Windows7 -64BIT on a 1st Generation Mac Pro 2.66GHZ Quad?

    Hi,
I posted this in Bootcamp but haven't received any replies so I am reposting it here where perhaps it really belongs. Is it possible to install Windows 7 64 bit on a 1st Generation Mac Pro 2.66Ghz?
Apple suggests that it's not possible and yet I've seen several Googled posts where the users have successfully installed 64 bit on a 1st Generation Mac Pro. The problem is that they've done this creating a bootable iso disk(whatever that is) using a Windows computer with imgburn and windows commands. I'm pretty good at following instructions but I haven't seen any instructions on how to install Windows 7 on this machine using a Mac based approach.
I'm using BootCamp and was able to partition the drive into NFTS and "proceed" with installation; however all the installations failed during setup and Windows would not boot; disk repair was not possible. Besides, from what I've gathered, 32 bit is problematic around memory issues.
When I try installing 64 bits, I never get past the "select cd rom 1 or 2" message where the keyboard won't work. It is at this point where others say they have successfully proceeded with moving forward by creating a bootable iso disk.
Problem is it's all Windows based with exe files and presupposes I already have Windows running.
I'm not sure I really understand how to create an iso disk, but I do have ROXIO TOAST 10 which is capable of burning "ISO" disks.Does anyone know how to do this and/or can you point me to a place where there are instructions on how to proceed?? While I realize Apple says that some mid 2006 mac pros aren't supported, there are multiple posts of windows 7 users successfully installing Windows 7 on a 1st Generation Mac Pro.
    Thanks.
    Mac Pro 2.66GHZ Quad Core

I have a March 2009 Mac Pro dual quad core running Win7 Pro 64 bit. I have Windows installed on a dedicated internal hard drive. There are no partitions, the entire drive is for Windows use.
Here's how I installed it, I did not start with BootCamp. Make sure the drive you're going to use for Windows doesn't have any important files on it because it will be formatted.
    1. Update Snow Leopard
    2. Place the Windows cd in the Super Drive
    3. Shut down the computer
    4. Remove all the hard drives except the one you want Windows installed on. Keep track of the order they are in and at the end replace them in the same order.
    5. Boot the computer holding down the Option key
    6. Boot to the Windows cd
    7. Install Windows and format the drive to NTFS
    8. When Windows needs to restart during installation you'll need to hold the Option key and boot to Windows, not the Windows cd.
    9. After Windows installs, place your Snow Leopard disc in the Super Drive
    10. The Drivers for Windows will be installed along with a Windows version of BootCamp.
    11. Go to Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update
    12. Update again until it's done.
    13. You'll also find a BootCamp under Control Panel, check it out.
    14. Shut down the computer and replace the hard drives in their original order
    14. Now if you turn on the computer it will boot to Snow Leopard, but if you hold the Option key during boot you can select Windows or Mac.

  • Installing Server 10.5 on Early 08 Mac Pro

I am trying to install Server on a Mac Pro, but every time I try to boot from the CD it kernal panics. Does anyone know how to solve this?

Just to add more color to this process...
First of all, the DVD does not have the drivers on it to boot your Mac Pro. That is why it kernel panics. So this is how you have to do it:
Install Leopard client version on the Mac Pro. I would make sure it's an erase and install just so you don't have anything left over that may cause you frustrations down the road.
After Leopard client is installed, run through the "Mac Buddy" assistant that automatically launches at startup of a new Leopard client installation and setup your Mac Pro like it will be when it's your server, including the administrator's name, password, and networking info.
Then put the Leopard Server DVD in the computer and there will be an installer that will transform the client into a server. After the client has been upgraded to server, the server assistant will appear. Carefully go through it, and after it's completed, if I remember correctly, the computer will restart.
After it's restarted and you log in, run the software updater and get all of the latest software updates installed before starting up any of the services.
    I hope this helps!

It appears to me that you would need a boot device with 10.5.6 already installed, and to NOT be running any Westmere features (such as 6-core processors) to have any hope. Also, drivers for 5770 and 5870 first appeared in 10.6.5, so getting your displays to work may be tough.
Custom 10.6.4 or "Full Retail" 10.6.5 is much more likley to succeed.

Nobody can tell you that.  We don't yet know what the pricing will be or what kind of compatibility issues may arise.  If you don't need anything in Lion right now, you can certainly wait, and if you do find the features of Lion compelling, there's no reason to wait for 6 months.  Buy what you need when you need it, and don't worry so much about what's ahead...  there's always something new coming soon!

  • Will the new 2012 Mac pros boot on Snow Leopard (10.6.8, installed on a HD in a 2008 Mac pro and then moved to the 2012 model).

I keep getting fuzzy answers on this (firmware, future updates, etc.). I can make a 2 partition HD on my 2008 (3.1), with Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on 1, and Lion on the other, and then put this HD in the 2012 3.06ghz. Will it work? (It does on the 2010 2.93ghz).

Tony https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4051765?tstart=0 Never got back and until someone who received a "new" Mac Pro 5,1 (5,2? just for laughs?) to know.
Apple ties OS build and fiirmware and Mac ID.
It should after all nothing really changed. In this case it has the same latest firmware that shipped iwth some 2010s
We had discussions about this when Mac Pro 2010 started shipping with Lion last... summer/fall.
A true Lion only system ships not only without DVDs, and with Lion, but can do a network install (it grabs a small boot loader) to pull down the installer and has enough code in the firmware. Same with AHT.
    A. It (10.6.8) works and you are fine
    B. It works only with Lion.
What is the real question? do you need to run 10.6.8?
There is a 1/20 chance too that it has a later build of 10.7.4, right?

  • Installing Leopard 10.5 on a new Mac Mini (2010 model)

Hi, I have just purchased the new look mac mini, which came with Snow Leopard.
I wish to also install Leopard (10.5) on this machine for software testing purposes, but when I insert and boot from my Leopard disk, the mac just hangs with a grey screen.
I assume that the new Mac requires newer drivers that are available on the Leopard disk.
Is there anyway to install Leopard on this Mac?

maybe this will help to understand why that is not a good idea: _*Don't install a version of Mac OS X earlier than that which came with your Mac*_.
