Installing Mac OS 10.3.5 over Mac OS 9.1

I couldn't really find any other information relating to my particular problem in any other discussions, so here I am. I have a problem installing Mac OS 10.3.5 on my Power Macintosh G3 with dual hard drives (4.0 GB on ATA bus, 2.0 GB on SCSI bus), 448 MB of memory and a DVD-ROM drive. If there's any more information needed about my system - please ask! I'm new to the whole discussions thing. Anyways, when I try to install Mac OS X from the install thing from the Installation CD, the install screen with the restart button pops up, so I click it. Then, when it restarts, a blank white screen pops up, and the words "No bootable HFS partition" start going across it, like this: no bootable HFS partitionno bootable HFS partitionno bootable HFS partitionno... and so on, over and over, until it covers about a third of the screen. Then, the screen jitters, and the regular Mac OS 9.1 bootup screen comes on and continues from there. Am I doing something wrong? Is there something else I should do?

Here's some more info for you!
Mac OS X Versions 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4, are complete system upgrades that must be purchased.
The point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), and 10.4.x to 10.4.7 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (U.S.).
Jaguar and Panther, are no longer available directly from the Apple Online Store, as Tiger 10.4.x is the most up to date OS.
Jaguar Full Retail Version CDs, a Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs, or a Full Retail Version of the Tiger Install DVD, can be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, AppleRescue, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
Jaguar and Panther are only on CDs, not DVDs.

Once Jaguar 10.2.x is installed, you can use the 10.2.8 combo update,
or if Panther 10.3.x is installed, you can use the 10.3.9 Combo Update, to upgrade to the final edition of either OS.
If your Mac meets the System Requirements for Tiger, you could also consider installing that.
And then use the 10.4.7 Combo Update.

I don't know what you mean by "I switch to log out other users and deleted everyone listed" -- if other user accounts are on your Mac you just need to log them out, not delete anything -- but it may be that there are other user accounts you aren't aware of on the Mac.
Are you an admin user? Did you originally set up this Mac?

Installing Mac Panther 10.3.5 over Mac Jaguar 10.2.9

I have an iMac G3/400, 320 megs ram (indigo blue). I am currently running OSX 10.2.9 Jaguar, want to install OSX 10.3.5 Panther over it. I assume that I insert CD #1 of the 3 CD set into the cd player, then where do I go from there. I am a non-techie, new to Mac so please make your reply easy to follow. Thanks.

Will the Panther installer just install those components necessary to update to Panther or will it remove Jaguar then perform a complete Panther install?
Unless an Archive & Install is performed, Jaguar will be removed.
If successful then can I complete the updates to 10.3.9 in the update function of System Preferences + will that also include the Java update + security updates as well?

Anyway, I downloaded it all but just photoshop I downloaded separtly, It is really the only one I use. Seems my old OS was to old and my new is too new?

Hi,
If you have the suite then you have to download the whole suite otherwise the Serial Number will not work, if you only download Photoshop. Once you download the suite you can choose to only install Photoshop and use the Serial number you have.

Having read further websites, I am now a bit more dubious you can do this, at least with an XP installer.
However if you have a USB memory stick and an existing Windows computer (even a Boot Camp one) or can borrow one you could try using the free WinToFlash utility to make a supposedly bootable USB memory stick of the installer. See http://wintoflash.com/overview/en/
The problem is XP predates EFI firmare and XP only really knows BIOS firmware. As such (supposedly) XP would have problems booting from a USB device fully - it might lose connection part way through. Windows Vista and 7 do support EFI firmware.
The other approach I mentioned of temporarily moving the hard disk from the Mini to the MacBook so you can use the MacBook internal CD/DVD drive would work - be careful of the cables. Fortunately a new Mac mini and an old MacBook are two of the easier models to get at the hard disk. Regardless of which method you try, the first step would be on the Mac mini to run Boot Camp Assistant and to create the partition for Windows. Then via either method try booting from a Windows XP installer.

Intermittent file loss over mac / pc network

Hi I hope someone can help, I have been using my network for over a year with no problems also networked the same for the last 4 years.
I now have files and folders go missing when dragging between computers I have one mac pro and x2 windows computers vista & 7.
The network is set up so I have the windows set up for emails and downloading files - I then transfer to the mac, I work on them and drag them over to the windows vista which runs the rip for my large format printer.
I have a shared folder on each pc which all the computers can read/write.
When i drag files and more often folders from the windows 7 to the mac they will not show on the mac but are sitting in the shared folder. when i drag from the mac to the windows vista I sometimes can't see anything in the shared folder (other times a few things) but I can't add folders or drag files over without them going missing. there is no logic or pattern to what i get so if this make any sense i really could do with the help!

There are several things that I had to do in order to get my Mac to play nicely with my PC network.
1. Turned off IPv6 on my mac
2. Set up an account on my mac with the same User ID and PW as on my PC. (and used that account when signing in to the mac.)
3.Downloaded and installed the Gimp printer drivers on my mac. (My printer is connected to one of my PC's)
4.Designated one of my PC's as the network Browser Master.

If you have an Intel Mac and have recently upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion; here is a post I made in another similar thread:
I do not have any experience with Final Cut, but if you have existing projects that you MUST access; then you are in need of a solution on your new iMac in Mountain Lion!
Unfortunately you got caught up in the minor miracle of Rosetta. Originally licensed by Apple when it migrated from the PowerPC CPU platform that it had used from the mid-1990's until the Intel CPU platform in 2006, Rosetta allowed Mac users to continue to use their library of PPC software transparently in emulation.
However, Apple's license to continue to use this technology expired with new releases of OS X commencing with Lion (and now Mountain Lion). While educational efforts have been made over the last 6 years, the fact is that Rosetta was SO successful that many users were caught unaware UNTIL they upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion.
Workarounds:
1. If your Mac will support it, restore OS X Snow Leopard;
2. If your Mac will support it, partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it and use the "dual-boot" method to choose between Final Cut Pro or Lion/Mt. Lion;
3. Purchase a used Mac that will run Snow Leopard (with the optional Rosetta installed) and continue to run FCE on that Mac (you can actually use Screen Sharing with a "headless" used Snow Leopard Mac Mini and use the screen from your other Mac to view and work FCP in the Mac Mini environment);
2. Upgrade to an Intel compatible version of FCP (such as FCP X) and hope it converts your existing projects to its newer format correctly. There is much debate that the newer version of Final Cut are eliminating many needed features; for example Final Cut Pro X vs. Final Cut Pro 6 -- many users are staying with version 6;
3. Install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels and then install FCE in the Snow Leopard environment:

It would also be extremely helpful to those trying to help you if you complted your Profile so we at least know what iMac and version of OS X is installed. Click Your Stuff in the upper right then click Profile and complete the necessary fields including what part of the planet you're located.

It may be too old-did you check the hardware requirements? Are the disks from another Mac? If so, that won't work either.
