Installing problem on Windows 2003 Server 64 bit
Dear All,
I'am trying to install XE onto a Windows 2003 Server 64 bit.. The installation process ends without any errors but the database itself seems not to start.
I tried several hints that have been mentioned here within the forum. But none of them worked. While experimenting I saw that there is not a single registry entry of Oracle within HKEY_LOCAL_MASCHINE\Software .
Is there a possiblity to set those needed registry entries manually? Is there a script for that purpose?
Thank you very much for your help!
Regards
Matthias
Hi,
thank you for your reply. As 32bit programs should run under Windows 64bit I thought the XE should run under 64bit, too.
The installation of XE itself seems to finish without any errors. But within the log files it can be read that the database has not started up due to a out of memory problem. This causes many log entries within all other logfiles as no database could be created.
The out of memory problem might be the same as within Advice on running XE on a small virtual Linux host ("Virtuozzo") because I am using a virtual windows 2003 server with "Virtuozzo", too.
At this time I am on discussing the issue with the provider. Maybe I will get a dedicated server with Windows Server 2003 64bit. Hopefully the XE could be installed on the 64bit Windows Server because 32bit dedicated servers are rare.
Best regards
Matthias

Can't install ITunes on Windows 2003 server (WHS box)
Hi,
I can't install the latest ITunes because it incorrectly mistakes my Windows 2003 server as Windows XP. So after search I find that I can change the MSI files as according to this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2154140.
This seems to work for all MSI file sin the ITunes etup exe except for this: AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi. If I change the MSI LaunchConditions it gives my error 2229 no matter what.
So I'm stuck. Should I call Apple next?I can't help you with the error you get, but just to clarify while iTunes isn't "officially" supported for use on Server 2003, it does work. Sort of. iTunes 8 could be installed by editing the MSI, iTunes 9 however while this method is still required you'll run into a problem with iPodService.exe crashing, and iTunes refuses to finish the install until that service is up and running.
There are a few topics on here that detail what you can do to get around this problem. I believe currently the only tried and tested method is to use the iPodService.exe from iTunes 8, doing a swap trick when the iTunes 9 service crash occurs so that you can at least get the application to install.
I can't be bothered to go to the trouble though. I'm interested in seeing if Apple will silently stop with the BS and just fix the installer's version mismatch errors (easily done), and fix iPodService.exe. The reason why the service crashes, according to what I've read, is because it seemingly misidentifies Server 2003 and similar OS's as Vista or Windows 7, and then begins calling functions for those OSs from ntdll.dll - which causes the crash.
As for your error, presumably that is with Orca. All I could find relating to the errors is something about transforming the MSI and language translations. It could also be because of an older version of Orca. Perhaps try and re-download iTunes, and extract the MSI packages again. But you should only need to edit the LaunchCondition for AppleMobileDevice.msi - and you don't need to delete the table either, you can simply change the number in NTVersion from 501 to 502, save the package and it'll all work. It did for me when I first tried it anyway. -
LAN Problem in Windows 2003 Server (LAN connection disabled)
I have installed LAN in Windows 2003 Service. But it shows LAN connection disabled. LAN connection is also proper.
I asked local vendor, he told me that it may due to virus problem. i do not want to format the machine against. i have very much useful data in it.
KedarHi
Do you mean you have plugged in the network cable to the server and the network card showing disabled.
If its disabled in the network and sharing then you need to enable it.
If you can't see any network connection in the network and sharing form control panel then check if the network card driver has installed properly.
if you can see the network connection then simply right click and enable them.
Thanks

Installing 9i on windows 2003 server
i am trying to install oracle 9i on windows 2003 server, but i got an error message, like the following...
"There are no patches that need to be applied from the patch set Oracle 9iR2 Patch set 9.2.0.3.0."
i can't find a version(9.2.0.3) for windows 2003 server(32bit) on oracle download section. I think that windows 2003 server doesn't support the Oracle 8i(8.1.7), either.
can someone help me install Oracle 8i or 9i on windows 2003 server?
Thanks...I'm not sure there is a supported version for your O/S but if there is you will find it by going to the downloads page at http://otn.oracle.com.
If there isn't I'd recommend going with a currently supported version of the product rather than one whose full support has ended. -

Startup Problem in Windows 2003 Server
Hi,
I was using oracle 9.0.2 with Windows 2003 & i had to format & re-install my machine.
Then I tried to install 9i Application Server & failed in between. But I noticed that the setup has already installed oracle 8i database instance. Then I quit configuring 9iAS & installed Oacle 9i (9.0.2) database. Then I upgraded the 8i instance with 9.0.2 with Database Upgrade Assistance.
Then I noticed when I start the instance with windows services & log in with sqlplus
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
errors occure. when I run following
c:\>sqlplus /nolog
SQL> conn sys/change_on_install as sysdba
SQL> startup
then the database starts up perfectly.
I thought this happens because of upgrade & then I created a new database instance but same problem is occuring.
Please help me...
Thank in advance.
Shaamil.Thank you,
I did remove ORA_DBA from the administrator user. then I did change "logon as" option for "this account"
Now it's OK.

Getting repeated lockups using MSI FX5900XT and Windows 2003 Standard Server. Mouse stops responding and system occassionally locks up completely. I have a dual boot system and windows XP works fine. Install problem on Windows 7 64-bit
Hello all,
I am attempting to install Adobe Reader on a new installation of Windows 7 64-bit. When I run the setup file (AdbeRdr920_en_US.exe) the installer starts, but the progress bar never gets beyond 10.93%. It just hangs there. The text above the progress bar says "Processing Adobe Reader 9.2". I've tried downloading the installer again, and running the installer as Administrator, to no avail. Does anyone have any insight into this issue? Thanks in advance.I seem to have solved the issue by downloading this install file
ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.2/enu/AdbeRdr920_en_US.exe
which installs successfully. -

Problem in installing Oracle 9i R2 on Windows 2003 Server Enterprise
We are having problem installing the Oracle 9i R2 Server on Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition. During installation, it generates error saying "The IP Address of the machine not found". When clicking the "Continue" button, it tries to install other things but few minutes later it asks to stop complete installation or installation of that feature.
But when we installed it on Windows XP it works fine and we have no problem in configuring it. What's the problem with Windows 2003 Server?
If we drop the idea of installing it on Windows 2003 Server, can we make Windows XP maching as a Server?ORACLE asumes that the first network device you have on your server has a fixed IP address.
Is this the case?
If not so you should install a loopback adapter as network device with a fixed IP.
Does this help?
