Installing PS CS4 Extended fails because of upgrading control??

I´m having trouble installing PS CS4 Extended on my laptop, when I put in my serial number and go to the next page I get "Upgradingcontrol" and that I should choose a PS product I already own and then put in the serial number for it..
It says I can choose either Adobe Photoshop CS, Adobe Photoshop CS2, Adobe Photoshop CS2 Deutsch/English/Japaneese/Francais... and then put in the serial..
Problem is that I don´t have any of these programs on my laptop..!
I have searched all over my computer and all I can find of Adobe programs is Adobe Reader 9.
How can I get PS CS4 installed? My licence and serial number is bought from Adobe. It can be used on 10 computers, but only on 2 at the same time. One is already in use on another computer.
I tried to delete and re-install, and downloaded the trial version of PS CS4 from adobe, and then tried to put in the serial, but with same result.
So now I only have the 30-day trial, but I have the valid serial so this is really annoying.
Anyone knows how to solve this?
Any help appreciated!
Thanks!

I´m not upgrading, that´s the trouble!
I don´t have any of the programs it says I own, and therefor I´m not upgrading nor do I have any serial to put in in the "upgrade control session"..
It would appear you have an upgrade copy of CS4 which is no use if you are not upgrading.
You need to buy the full version.
You are probably having a problem with the trial because of the rubbish left by the earlier attempts.
Uninstall everything you can from the Control Panel and then run the CS4 Clean Script.
Then install the trial from the download.

I have to install Photoshop CS4 extended on a new computer from a disk because my old computer had a hard drive crash.  There is no serial number on the back of the case.  How can I obtain a usable serial number?

    Find your serial number quickly
You can activate software without following up and registering it... at least that was the case in the past.  The serial number is normally located on the disc case or a box inside the main box.  If you did not purchase the disc from Adobe then it is possible you would have dealt with a redemption code, in which case it would have been up to you to keep a record of the serial number, especially if you did not follow up and register the software.

  • Installing photoshop cs4 extended with cs3 suite

    Hi,
I would like to install photoshop cs4 extended with cs3 suite on the same drive.
Is it possible?  Should I uninstall photoshop cs3 (not extended) from the drive first?
Should I use the WinCS4Cleanupscript before I do that.
I dont want to uninstall the whole suite cs3.
    Thanks for your advises

CS3 will co-exist quite happily on your computer with CS4.
Do not remove it until you are completely satisfied with the new version!
There is absolutely no need for the clean script at this point. It is only to clear up after messed up un-installs.

  • Installing Photoshop CS4 Extended upgrade on my Mac Pro. query

Hi all I do hope you can help me. I have just purchased ps cs4 extended upgrade for my Mac. On attempting to install the istall program checks my system profile then asks me for the serial number for the new product. all well up to this point, then on the next page it tells me it cannot find an existing product to upgrade from and asks me to insert the serial number of the qualifying product. I have the full version of cs3 standard on my Mac so i insert the number. Ok so far. on the same page it asks me to choose my qualifying product showing cs3 extended in the box. However when I try to insert cs3 standard I find there is nothing to change to only this one option.  On the adobe website it clearly shows that I should be able to update from the standard version  to extended. Can anyone dvise me. I purchased the upgrade from Apple and I note it is the international version.

Thank you for your Help, just come off the phone to Adobe. I had to put a Challenge code in as it was as you suggest the wrong package only allowing Upg from CS3 Extended. All sorted now thanks to a very patient and helpful Adobe guy.  Have since updated and everything seems ok even though I am on Snow Leopard.
    Thanks again Denis

  • No luck installing PS CS4 Extended

I work at a University and have the volume license for CS4 Design Standard. I'm running a MacPro Leopard 10.5.8, plenty of RAM and Hard Disk. A few months ago I purchased PS CS4 Extended, license and DVD. The DVD says, Photoshop CS4 Extended, MacOS. I just now got around to installing it. I put the DVD in the drive, click on Setup, it asks for my admin password, then the setup dialog comes up in the Welcome screen. On the RHS of the window under Installed Products it says Adobe Photoshop CS4. The checkbox is checked and can't be unchecked. The install size is listed at 5.3 MB. !?
Under Available products it has Adobe AIR, Adobe Device Central, Drive CS4, Extension Manager, Media Player, and Supporting Components. I can't select any of the check boxes, and under Total size (of the install) it says 5.3 MB.
So... I click on Install, the progress bars move quickly all the way to the right. After a 1/2 minute or so the progress bars disappear, the dialog says, "Thanks! Thanks for installing Adobe Photoshop CS4." Then the disk ejects.
I open Photoshop and the About box says Adobe Photoshop CS4. The last modified dates on the PS App and all the plugins, etc. are the same as the Install date, Feb 7. 2009.
What's up with this, and how should I proceed?
    TIA, Vince

Sorry to disabuse you of this notion, but I called Tech Support yesterday. The tech support person, who initially had a difficult time understanding the issue, finally got it, and asked for my serial number so she could check it out. She verified from her database that it was indeed a valid serial number for PS CS4 Extended.
Then she blew me off and transferred me to the Customer Service line. I was on hold for over an hour, and, sadly, had to hang up as I  had a meeting I had to attend.
Now here's an interesting development: I downloaded the Trial Version from adobe this morning. It installed correctly, I specified the trial rather than S/N. It loaded and ran as the Extended version! I was then able to plug in my S/N and it accepted it.
So my tentative conclusion is that somehow a batch of disks accidentally got loaded with the standard version. We'll see what Customer Service has to say.

  • When I try to install Photoshop CS4 extended, machine locks up

Down loaded LION.  Photoshop CS4 extended was working initially.  Then experienced hiccup, my daughter was going to clean up my machine for me and deleted a bunch of files.  Things were so screwed up I had to restore LION.  In the process, CS4 got corrupted somehow.  Tried to reinstall and whenever I do, the machine locks up and the dark screen of death appears.  I've tried everything to get CS4 to work but to no avail.  Sure would appreciate some suggestions, I really depend upon CS4 for my photographic work.  Thanks

Since my last post (initial question/problem) I logged onto Adobe.  Among their recommendations was to download Adobe CS5 cleaner; which I did.  Still cannot even install Photoshop.  As soon as I try, I get the dark screen of death which requires that I power down and restart.  Any ideas?

  • Production Premium CS4 installation failed because of Disk failure

    Hello all,
I just want to add this for the record. I tried installing PP CS4 for 3 days. First there were individual programs that wouldn't install, then the setup crashed with an error at the first place. I looked up any mentioned cause in the forums. But in the end the solution was as simple as this: I downloaded the images and and mounted them in Daemon Tools - no Problem at all. Funny, that I didn't come earlier to this, because my first thought as I opened the shrink-wrapped DVD-case one year ago was, how poor the quality is.
That's it - and maybe of any help for someone.

    Hi,
Finally, we found out that the socket files were put under /var/tmp/.oracle instead of /tmp/.oracle
After we clean all the files under /var/tmp/.oracle, the css can up and running again.

  • Photoshop CS4 Extended Fails to Open Some Files

    >Thousands of files (images)have been save to a hard drive under CS, CS2 & CS3 in various formats, such as *.CR2, *.tif, *.psd, *.jpg, *.mrw.

    >Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document (*.CR2 & *.MRW).
    > Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you. Bob Hartman

Normally that means you have corrupt files, usually due to disk errors.
JPEG and raw files could indicate a problem with ACR, or the "open JPEG and TIFF in ACR" setting. But PSD files never touch ACR.
You could try copying the files to another machine and see if they open, or use another application to try and open the files (it might skip over the corrupt bits).

  • Problems with installing Photoshop CS4 Extended (Windows)?

Just got new software today and am unable to install it. I keep getting the following error message: DATA_FILE_VERSION. I then have to click ok and then the screen gets hung up with the hour glass. When I try and force quit, I get another error: autoplay.exe not loading.
Anyone else have this problem with this particular program? I've never had a problem installing any software from Adobe or otherwise. Can't seem to get support techs to answer the phone to get help.

Googling only comes up with a couple things where someone was trying to
install a cracked version they downloaded, so it could be a corruption
    problem.
If this is a downloaded installer, then redownload it and try installing,
    again.
If you are inserting a DVD and autoplay is starting up and you get this
message, you can shut down the installer process as you've done then instead
of double-clicking the DVD, use right-click Explore to view the files
directly on the DVD without running AutoPlay, then find the setup.exe or
something.MSI with EN in it's name to run the installer, directly, without
goint through autoplay.  This would only make a difference if the autoplay
is corrupted somehow but everything else is ok.  Since your error message
talks about autoplay then maybe that is the case.
If you are calling Adobe for support, it can take hours, depending on when
    you call.
This "open letter to Adobe customers" was posted within the last few days
and basically apologizes for poor support, recently, while they change from
    support-provider to another:

  • CS4 InDesign fails to install

Last night I downloaded the file ADBESTDSCS4_LS1.dmg and used Easy Install; however CS4 InDesign failed to install.  I've called tech support, but the person I spoke with told me to read several articles about troubleshooting an installation using disks.  She was absolutely no help. Would someone tell me how to install InDesign CS4?
My operating system is Mac OSX 10.5.8.  I received no error messages.  I was upgrading from CS2 InDesign. The Easy Install just didn't install InDesign.

You can try to use the CS4 Cleanscript to see if that helps. You can also fix permissions and make sure you are installing as an administrator.

  • Upgrade from CS4 extended to CS5

I have Photoshop CS4 extended. Purchased the upgrade to CS5, loaded the disc, ran the installation , all seemed Ok.
However my current version of CS4 is still displayed - Is there a diffenece in the updrade discs you need to purchase?
Won't be too happy as I ordere d by phone and I explained what I had ? . Not a happy bunny with Adobe at the moment.
And try caling support at the weekend - aaagh !

The correct forum for this question is http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop and from there pick your platform. But wish you to know that I have PSCS3, PSCS4 and PSCS5 still installed on my comp. Updates don't override the previous version.

  • Make Photoshop CS4 (normal) to Photoshop CS4 extended

    Hi people,
I tried the whole day upgrading from Photoshop CS4 to Photoshop CS4 extended.
    The situation is:
a few months ago, I had installed and activated Photoshop CS4 (normal) at a workstation.
Now we need at this Workstation Photoshop CS4 extended.
    What have i done yet:
At first I uninstalled the normal Photoshop CS4, rebooted the workstation, and installed from the DVD Photoshop CS4 with an extended key.
After the installation has finished, and I started Photoshop CS4, I recognized that its not the extended Version, its just the normal one.
After googling the internet, I found the "WinCS5Cleanupscript".
So I have uninstalled the not extended Photoshop CS4 again,
    did a reboot,
run the CleanUpScript (which does not recognize any CS4 on the workstation),
    reboot again,
installed Photoshop CS4 with the key from the extended version,
    reboot,
startet Photoshop CS4 and recognized also, that it was not extended.
    Next step:
Ran the CleanUpScript, which found something from CS4 (what is ok, because I did not uninstall PSCS4 this time)
CleanUpScript cleaned some CS4 thins up.
    Reboot.
Uninstall everything that begans with an "A" and ended with "dobe" from the workstation.
    Reboot.
Than I ran RegCleaner, cleaned everything that began with an "A" and ended with "dobe".
    Reboot.
Checked again with RegCleaner if anything was left, but RegCleaner did not recognize any more Adobe things.
Startet Photoshop CS4 and recognized also, that it was not extended.
What can/should I do, to be able to install Photoshop CS4 extended?
    I have no more ideas.
    regards Kai

Sorry if am not realy precise and correct enough, I try to explain it more exactly:
My Company has purchased Photoshop CS4 (normal) and Photoshop CS4 extended.
For both versions, do I have a separate key; one for the normal, and one for the extended version.
I have the Situation, with one workstation, that there is Photoshop CS4 (normal) installed and activated with a (normal) key, since a half year and it works propperly.
Now we need at this workstation Photoshop CS4 extended. But I can't "upgrade" my PhotoshopCS4 (normal) to Photoshop CS4 extended.
I know that the extended key works for the extended Version, because we also have workstations that needs PhotoshopCS4 extended since Photoshop was installed there.
    My "upgrade"-way was:
    - uninstalled, PhotoShop CS4 (normal) from this workstation
    - Installed it again from the DVD
    - entered the key from the extended Version
    - waited half an hour, since the installation finished
    - rebootet the workstation
    - startet PhotoshopCS4 an then I recognized, that this is not the extended Version
    - and now, I do not know, what I can do
Now after reading the other posts, there could be one mistake that I could had made.
And its, that I did not have deactivated PhotoShopCS4, but logicaly will it not be deactiveted during the uninstallation?
sorry if my english is too bad, if this is the case let me know, and I try to explain it more exactly.
    regards and thanks
    Kai
