Installing SharePoint 2013 with SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition
Hi,
Can we use SQL Server 2012 Developer edition with SharePoint 2013? One thing that came to my mind was setting max degree of parallelism, is that supported in Developer edition? Looking forward to your assistance here.
Thanks,
kashif
I'm slightly incorrect. See http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/4/A/64A1EC8F-F575-41E1-9D34-821FA9F98F8E/SQL_Server_2012_Licensing_Reference_Guide.pdf.
Licensing SQL Server for Non-production Use
The SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition is a full-function version of the SQL Server software—with all the
features and capabilities of the Enterprise edition—licensed under the Developer Tools model, which is a “per
user” model. One license is required for each person that accesses or uses the software.
When using SQL Server software for development, test or demonstration purposes, only the users are licensed
and there is no need for a corresponding license for the actual server systems running SQL Server software in
this case.
As long as only licensed users have access to the software, customers can install as many copies of the software
on any number of servers that are used exclusively for development, test or demonstration purposes. This
is significant, because it allows customers to run the software on multiple devices (for testing purposes, for
example) without having to license each non-production server system.
But no, as you can see above, you'll have no issues with the software (Developer Edition is Enterprise Edition with licensing restrictions, but no functionality restrictions).

SHAREPOINT 2013 WITH SQL SERVER 2012 REPORTING SERVICES - NOT WORKING
The SQL 2012 with SP1 is installed but the Reporting Services are not working and not able to connect the Sharepoint with it.
i also TRIED TO install THE ADD-ON (rsSharePoint.msi) but it doesn't connect and show the Sharepoint Mode and cannot connect the Reporting services.
If I install the Reporting Native feature then the reporting service config displays the Instance else doesn't show and connect to the sql server.
But I am able to access the Configuration manager and TCP/IP are enabled.
I have installed SQL 2012 and Sharepoint 2013. Please revert soon.

Installing SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition or wait for SP2?
Hi everyone,
I just received my copy of SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition I ordered. As usual, before installing, I searched the web for any hint or other stuff on the subject.
I first found that SP1 was already available. Honestly I prefer installing using the last version available instead of upgrading. I found the SP1 install package using the following web address:
http://www.microsoft.com/fr-ca/download/details.aspx?id=35575
Is this the right install package to use?
Now, still reading everything I could find on that SP1, I found stories about major issues with SP1.
Two examples I remember:
http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/770630
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2793634/en-us?wa=wsignin1.0
Two others (not specifically related to SP1):
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlsetupandupgrade/thread/a0da3372-ab3d-4af0-b4c4-0d47163e0e03/
http://www.sqlperformance.com/2012/11/system-configuration/2012-cal-problems
My question. Should I wait for SP2? If so, any target date when it should be available?
If not, what would you recommend as the logic install sequence? Should I look for any cumulative update(s)? Any other "manual settings" I should consider?
Finally, can someone guide me regarding what options I should choose while installing. My main goal is to program/build C++, C# applications using VS2010 that will interface with SQL Server for data storage purposes (add/update/delete,
batch update/delete) and reports.
Hope to hear from someone.
Stephane
BTW: My current setup is the following:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU [email protected]
3.00 Go
Vista Ultimate SP2 32bits
Visual Studio 2010 Professional Edition (which will be upgraded to last SP once installed)Hi again,
I proceeded with download of CU7. On Microsoft's webpage, there are several files we can download:
2012_SP1_DAC_CU7_2894115_11_0_3393_x86
2012_SP1_AOrcleDes_CU7_2894115_11_0_3393_x86
2012_SP1_AOrcleSer_CU7_2894115_11_0_3393_x86
2012_SP1_PPExcel_CU7_2894115_11_0_3393_x86
SQLServer2012_SP1_CU7_2894115_11_0_3393_x86
Which one I should choose?
Also, some people reported having problems installing this update.

This 3rd time I followed this link. But nothing new, same error.
Can you please tell me how to do follow, I cannt do the 1st step, how to change the local system to windows level account, vice-versa. It is shown mine as
Server Configuration Manager(Local)
From here I folllowed the steps ---[I cannt insert link/image :-(]
SQL 2008/R2 setup fails with "Wait on the database engine recovery handle failed"
If I right clicked on SQL Server Service, there is no option to change the account.
Hello,
Thanks for your patience, did you tried stesp mentioned in below article
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqljourney/archive/2012/03/16/sql-2008-r2-setup-fails-with-quot-wait-on-the-database-engine-recovery-handle-failed-quot.aspx
To resolve it, follow these steps:-
When the installation throws this error, click on OK and allow it to proceed. It will fail for Database Engine, but the SQL Server service should have
been created. Check the Services console.
If the service is present, perform the following steps:-
1. Go to SQL Server Configuration manager, right click on the SQL Server service, and change the service account (if it is local system, give
it a windows level account, and vice-versa). It might throw a WMI error but you will see the account getting updated anyway. If not, then use the Services console. Change the account for SQL Agent as well.
Use this link to change sql server service account
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345578.aspx
2. Next, try to start the service. It should come online.
3. However, you will not be able to log in to the SQL Server
4. Now stop the service and start it from the command prompt using -m -c -T3608 parameters.
5. Now try logging in to the server using admin connection from sqlcmd (sqlcmd admin:<server name>\<instance name> ...)
6. Once logged in, use the sp_addsrvrolemember '<domain\username>','sysadmin'.
Also add the builtin/administrators to the sysadmin role
7. Now stop the service from the command prompt and start it from SQL Server configuration manager
You should be able to log in to the server now.
Hope this helps someone.

SharePoint 2013 and SQL Server 2012
Hi all,
I've looked around and not found a concrete answer to this question; or maybe I have and just haven't realised! Anyway.
We've currently got a license for SharePoint 2013 Enterprise, and are working on introducing Business Intelligence capabilities, namely Power Pivot and Power View. We'd like the data to be refreshed regularly, meaning we need Power Pivot on the SQL Server.
As Power Pivot and Power View are listed as features for SharePoint 2013 Enterprise, is it enough to have the Enterprise licence for SP2013, and use a SQL Server 2012 Standard License, installing the Power Pivot configuration tool along with the required
SSRS for Power View? Or do we need a SQL Server 2012 BI / Enterprise License to make use of Power View and Data Refresh on SP 2013?
I've also seen talks of installing SQL Server 2012 SP1 -- I'm new to all of this, but would having SQL Server 2012 Standard License alongside installing SP1 be sufficient for the above features?
Many thanks for any help.PowerPivot/PowerView do require the BI or Enterprise editions of SQL 2012 (and yes, SQL 2012 SP1 is required for SharePoint 2013). These instances must be installed on the SharePoint server, not the SQL Database Engine server. You can use SQL
Standard for the Database Engine server.

Sharepoint 2013 comes with prerequisitesinstaller.exe to install the software required for the actual Sharepoint installation.
I 've installed Windows server 2012 in the R2 edition as well as Standard edition, but installing the prerequisites ends with an issue for the Microsoft Identity Extensions (MIE) on both versions (screenshot).
The 2012 R2 server has been updated with all latest files by executing Windows update.
In case of the Server 2012 R2, MIE is already installed , but somehow the Sharepoint installation is missing something.
I al;so tried removing default install to let prerequisiteinstaller.exe to install it's own version, but that did not help.
When I skip the prerequisites remaining items, the Sharepoint installation stops directly , requesting the missing items.
I've tried several Sharepoint server installation files, including the 180 days free version.
Screenshots will be uploaded after my account has been checked......Hi Jay,
Installing SharePoint Server 2013 on a computer that is running Windows Server 2012 R2 could lead to unexpected behavior, therefore, Microsoft does not support SharePoint Server 2013 in Windows Server 2012 R2.
SharePoint Server 2013 with Service Pack 1 and SharePoint Foundation 2013 with Service Pack 1 will offer support for Windows Server 2012 R2.
Refer to:
SharePoint 2013 Support for Windows Server 2012 R2
In addition, as Dave suggested, for the sharepoint server issue, please post in the dedicated forum for a better response.

SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition Installation Problem
Hi,
I have just been given a new PC by my IT department so am trying to get all the software I need onto the PC. Since I am now running windows 7 I wanted to try SQL Server 2012, however whenever I go to install it, one of the checks always fails as follows:-
SetupCompatibilityCheck
Checks whether the current version of SQL Server is compatible with a later installed version.
This version is not compatible with a later installed version. For more information, see the compatibility information at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=160850.
All other checks are successful but no matter whether I use the MSDN disc the software is on or the downloaded copy, the software doesn't seem to like my PC. I don't understand how the software can believe there is something
newer than SQL Server 2012 on the system. When I run the discovery tool elsewhere in the installer it reports that nothing is installed.
Is anyone able to give me some information on what might be triggering this? I did install Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Studio 2010 on the system prior to this, as well as SQL Server 2008 R2, but I have since removed all of these products again in order
to try and identify the cause of this problem. Now with nothing left on the system again, it still reports this same error. Could it be something is left over from those installations that is causing this problem?
Any help would be much appreciated

Hi Paul,
Any progress?
This issue you met may be due to there are still registry keys left related to the SQL Server, even though we have uninstalled the SQL Server.
To fix the issue, we can remove the left keys manually:
1. Click 'Start' > 'Run' > type 'regedit' > press Enter key.
2. Backup this registry keys that related to SQL Server under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
3. Delete keys that relate to SQL Server under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall.
4. Restart the setup installation.
If you have any problem, please feel free to let me know.
Thanks,
Maggie

It is supported to install sharepoint 2013 and SQL server on the same server. However, please check the size of your Azure VM and make sure it is compatible for that.
The minimum recommended size for a virtual machine is A3 when using SQL Server Enterprise Edition. Select A3 or higher when using SQL Server Enterprise Edition. Select A4 when using SQL Server 2012 or 2014 Enterprise Optimized for Transactional Workloads
images. Select A7 when using SQL Server 2012 or 2014 Enterprise Optimized for Data Warehousing Workloads images. In addition, the default size for SharePoint 2013 image is A3.
In addition, as a best practice, you can install them in different servers and then deploy SharePoint 2013 with SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups in Azure:

Hi
I'm working on upgrading sharepoint 2010 to sharepoint 2013 with sql server 2008 r2. I've ran into some problems but have been able to get a test farm upgraded. However to run SSRS 2013 it seems Sql Server 2012 Reporting Services are required. Upgrading
to a full sql server 2012 database isn't an option. I know that sql server 2012 reporting services can use sql server 2008 r2 as a catalog and content database so I was wondering could this be a workaround? Importantly would I need a separate machine/virtual
machine to host sql server 2012 reporting services? or could it live on the sql server 2008 r2 machine? Any pointers appreciated. Thanks DanRemember that SSRS must be deployed on the SharePoint server. Having said that, yes you can install SSRS 2012 SP1 on a server running SQL 2008 R2. And yes, you can use 2008 R2 as your Database Engine server while SSRS 2012 SP1 runs on the SharePoint server.

Installing SharePoint 2013 in a Windows 2012 R2 Server I was getting the following error
when I install prerequisiteinstaller.exe in sharepoint 2013, got the below error:
Error: The tool was unable to install Application Server Role, Web Server (IIS) Role.
Any expert please help?Hi,
From your description, I know you get error when you install SharePoint 2013 in Windows Server 2012 R2.
If you have tried all method above. In your case, you have installed the Web Server(IIS), but the
Web Server (IIS) role installation may fail. You could try run commande: aspnet_regii -enable –i.

As SharePoint 2013 does not support Windows 2012 R2 Server very well what you can find from this blog:

kirteshHi kirtesh,
According to your description, my understanding is that you got an error when you ran prerequisite installer.
Please make sure the Windows Server Features and Role services are enabled in your SharePoint server.
Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Server Manager->Add Roles and Features:
i. Application Server
ii. File Services
iii. Web Server (IIS)
