Installing skype failed code 1603

Hi,
I just upgrading the skype which is auto prompt by skype, now, got this error message, "installing skype failed code  1603". It popups another message before this error message, the popup messages says "object is exist".
Anyone can help to resolve this issue?
I had installed tried to install both visual c++ redistributable 2005 SP, and 2010 which is required by Mindmanager, had same failed error message, says "object is exist".
Your replying is greatly appreciated.
Thank you

You get that error with a corrupt download.  If you aren't out of hard drive space, maybe you have some hard drive corruption or malicious or security software installed inhibiting access to your hard drive.
Try running a check disk to resolve hard drive problems:

  • Installing Skype Failed : Code 1638 - Windows 10

Hello, Just downloaded windows 10. Now getting a new Skype update. It wont install and gives me this error.  It asks me to unintall Skype as the old version is incompatible with the new version. Tells me to go to add/remove programs. The only problem is that Skype is no longer there. Cool! I read about this probem and was advised to go here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/mats/program_install_and_uninstall/en Problem is that tool  is not compatible with Windows 10. Please advise. Peter

Hi Techfreak, I ran Fixit as you suggested from this part of the page: ================================ Step 3: Disable Microsoft Installer logging and Windows Update verbose loggingImportant As soon as Windows Update or Microsoft Update has finished, disable Windows Installer logging. Having logging enabled can require too much time every time that you install updates, can slow down your computer, and can create large log files that require large amounts of disk space.
To have us disable logging for you, go to the "Fix it for me" section. If you would rather disable logging yourself, go to the "Let me fix it myself" section.  Fix it for meTo disable logging automatically, click the Fix it button or link. Then click Run in the File Download dialog box, and follow the steps in the Fix it wizard.
    For Windows 8, Windows 7
Fix this problem  =================================== Seemed to go ok. Got the attached message. It wasn't specific, but seemed to fix something. Cheers

  • Skype installation error 1603

Hello, 8 days ago skype started to malfunction on my laptop and I get this error and it says "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed." and this happens when I click to open the program, I also unistalled then reinstalled the program and I get to errors and it says "Object already exists." and the second error I get says "Installing Skype failed, code 1603 A fatal error occured during installation" I tried everything I can to resolve this error from Google then youtube. Please help me!

The "Object already exists" error message is known to be caused by the recent Windows Security update KB2918614. Due to changes this update made to Windows Installer, not only Skype, but also several other updates (e.g. Adobe Reader, Java and even updates for Sophos Antivirus) may suffer from this behaviour. Uninstalling this update will rectify the issue, and this update can always be subsequently reinstalled (when the affected application is successfully installed/updated).
Try to uninstall this Windows Security update KB2918614.

  • Code 1603 - never ending story

I am using Windows 7 Professional. There was an older version of Skype installed, but it was removed. There is no file/directory on the disk conating word SKYPE. There is no entry containing letters SKYPE in the registry. The sanity of the registry has been checked with Norton Utilities. The registry was checked also with Microsoft's own Wunderwaffe named FixIt that was suggested with some earlier posts dealinig with Code 1603 error. It didn't find any issues.
I downloaded a new Skype 7.6.0.103 from the skype.com. After being launched three offered options (Click-to-Call, Bing, etc) were deselected. The program ran for couple seconds and finished displaying a following dialog:
The older version of Skype 7.6 cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group.
After the message was accepted, a second dialog window popped up stating:
Installing Skype failed; code 1603. A fatal error occured during installation.
I have to admit the messages are not very informative, but this is all what I've got. Does anybody have any idea what could be wrong and how to fix it? Perhaps the maintainers of the program could elaborate at what conditions the above messages would be printed.
    --gb

Run the following program as it should pick up the majority of leftovers that would impede the install.  I recommend you reboot before reinstalling though it may not be necessary.

It didn't even finish the last sentence. I'm running Windows 7 Professional, and tried to unistall the program in the Windows Control Panel, but it didn't show up. I followed the "How can I completely uninstall and then reinstall Skype for Windows Desktop?" guide: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA10634/how-can-i-completely-uninstall-and-then-reinstall-skype-for...
I followed it up until I was supposed to run the reinstaller, but it gave me the same error as when I tried to update it before.
I tried doing what it said in this post: http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-desktop-client/error-1638/m-p/1674543/highlight/true#M157151
I used Program_Install_and_Uninstall troubleshooter, but Skype didn't show up. I chose product is not on the list, and it asked for the product code, which I don't have.
Right now, I don't have any Skype files on my computer that I can find in the registry or on the C: drive, so I don't know what could be left. Hopefully someone can help me.

hello skype today and I wanted to install skype I went on my website and downloaded from there skype but when I came to settle appeared mia

    Skype failed; code 1601
Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. Contact support staff to check whether service has been registered under Windows installer

    Try this  Lessmsi  method:
    http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-archive/Impossible-to-install-v6-13-0-104-Error-16...
Be aware that if you want to install the currently latest 7.6.0.103  version, then you should use SkypeSetup_7.6.0.103.msi file in order to extract Skype.exe and Login.cab files.
SkypeSetup_7.6.0.103.msi file can be downloaded using this link:
    http://download.skype.com/msi/SkypeSetup_7.6.0.103.msi
Don't run this installer, but only use the downloaded SkypeSetup_7.6.0.103.msi file to extract the Skype.exe and Login.cab files.

  • Rollup Update install error - error code 2771

When trying to install the rollup update 7 on a hub/cas server, I get the following error almost immediately:
"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package,.  This may indicate a problem with this package.  The error code is 2771."
I get the same thing when installing from a downloaded install (that I've used on other servers) or via windows update.
I also get two errors in the event log:
    1. MSIinstaller - event id 10005 - same as above but adds "The arguments are: AdminTools" at the end.
    2. MSIinstaller - event id 1023 - "... could not be installed.   Error code 1603.  Additional info is available..."  (no add'l info is in the log file referenced)
I had a similar, if not exact, problem trying to install rollup update 6 and couldn't find any info then...  or now.   Saw one post about disabling symantec endpoint protection (which we don't use) but I tried closing our trend a/v but no diff.
    Oh yeah, the server is Win2k3 R2 x64 SP2.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Hmmm...  Logging... Who 'da thunk it...  Thanks for the suggestion.   :-)
Below are the all lines from the log containing error or debug.  The "...." means that the previous two lines were duplicated numerous times.
The only real reference I found to the admintools error was at this link but it wasn't very helpful. http://blogs.msdn.com/windows_installer_team/archive/2005/08/17/451516.aspx

  • Skype Failed to install error 1603 after windows r...

Hey everyone! Thanks for any help in advanced.
Honestly after losing access to an old account and making a new account I've still been a long time fan of skype and love free 1 on 1 video calls. I'm really hoping this is an easy fix because honestly I've been looking at the skype community forums for the last hour and havn't been able to find a fix.
About 2 and a half hours ago I reduced the size of my only partiton on my 500 GB harddrive as much as I could. After doing this I reinstalled windows on the new 200ish GB partition. After installing and loading windows I coppied skype, smite, and steam from D:\Program Files to C:\Program Files (x86) and attempted to run skype. Skype opened and I signed in as usual but skype was having a really high CPU usage and kept reading/writing to some statistics.db file at several GB/s (Total IO was like 1.8GB/s, mostly write I think). The 13% cpu usage, although concerning as abnormally high, didnt really bog down performance too much. This high disk usage was really driving my mad as when it peaked my computer would almost stop responding and skype.exe would stop responding (although it resumed eventually). Skype in this state was unusable as any time the window was focused it almost crashed.
After this I decided to reinstall skype instead of using the backup I had. I went to uninstall skype and found that it didnt show up on the list to "uninstall a program" so I tried following as many steps I could at https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA10634/how-can-i-completely-uninstall-and-then-reinstall-skype-for...
I've also followed all the steps here except for installing an earlier version of skype as I'm not sure what version to use. http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-desktop-client/Skype-Problems-Troubleshooting/td-p/52260
I force ended skype.exe then made backups of my skype user and pictures folders. I skipped step 3 since it wasn't in the list. I then did steps 4-6. While doing this I noticed it said there may be "up to 50" references to skype in the registry but I noticed there were a lot more. I'm not exactly sure how many there were but I counted up to 40 and when I noticed I was only half way through the registry I started spamming "delete" key "enter" (to confirm deletion) as fast as I could.  I'd say there were at least 70 skypes in the registry. I'm not sure if this registry includes things from my other installation of windows or if it got **bleep**ed up because of they way I tried to install skype.
After doing all this with my registry I rechecked to make sure the skype program files and skype app data folders were deleted and then tried to reinstall skype. Downloading from http://www.skype.com/en/download-skype/skype-for-computer/ I tried to reinstall it and all I did was unchecked "run skype when windows starts" hit next unchecked the bing and skype click to call stuff, hit next. After it said installing for a while it said installation failed error 1603.
I tried following advice of several posts on the forums and other sites, including going through the registry again, using Microsofts FixIt for install/uninstalls, and trying to install skype from another administrator account. After looking at several posts, trying all these fixes, and looking into it myself I'm really not sure what to do.
I've looked at all of the following posts and tried all the fixes I saw.

Not really sure what else to say or do, I've never really had to debug any programs or windows features before, and the only time I ever messed with the registry was a few windows installs before when I had to delete several instances of a self-reinstalling virus on my computer that spammed processes and lagged my computer.
Edit: After seeing this link I tried rerunning Microsoft's FixIt Install/Uninstall with the program ID from the folder name at %programdata%\Skype. I tried doing this and installing Skype from SkypeSetup_6.1.0.129.msi. Installation failed with some failed to read file totally forgot what it was. I then tried using the standard InstallSkypeFull.exe and it gave an actual error this time instead of the apparently "generic" error 1603 (see attached picture) After this installation failed I tried reinstalling from the 6.1.0.129.msi and it didn't say it failed. I'm about to try and open it.
Anddd opening Skype failed with the error message in the attached skype2 picture. I'm just going to close everything related to that except for this post and I'm going to close all my installers and debug stuff I have open and just wait for a reply. Currently I believe the system thinks skype is installed but I can't open it.

I'm afraid that after all the manipulations your system is so messed up that a regular Skype installation is no longer possible.
    Try this:
Download but not run this msi-installer for Skype 6.9.0.106 version:
    http://download.skype.com/msi/SkypeSetup_6.9.0.106.msi
Create a folder on your computer where you want Skype application to be located. This folder can also be C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone\, but any other location will work too.
Now using the procedure described here:
    http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-desktop-client/How-to-update-Skype-without-using-any-Skype-ins...
extract Skype.exe file from the SkypeSetup_6.9.0.106.msi file and copy this Skype.exe file to the selected installation folder.
Right click on the Skype.exe file and select: Send to – Desktop (create shortcut). You will have to start Skype using this new shortcut.
P.S. There is a new link to the latest Lessmsi program:

  • Install Failed error code 1603 -- SOLVED

On Windows 7, upgrading to 7.1.0.105. The upgrade deleted the old version, but the install failed with error code 1603. Tried lots of things suggested here and on the net.
What worked was simply rebooting -- because there was a service: Skype Updater, that had to be deleted for the install to work, and rebooting is the only way to delete it. After the reboot, ran the install and it worked!

One thing to check for is look at your disk with Disk Utility and see if there is a new "Install OS X" partition. If yes you can delete that partition and resize your original partition (resize not reformat).
