Installing update 7 in Windows XP

What is the deal with updating to 7 in XP??? It just locks up constantly. I can't even get the program to open now?

I tried to uninstall everything again and reinstall the original software from the disk that came with the Nano. Still no luck. I deletede every file I could find on iPod, iTunes, and QuickTime. The iTunes program opens and immediately hangs up. I still can't see the error message or warning. Click on the window and it flashes on and off so fast you can't see anything. Even if you continually click on and off, it still doesn't come up long enough to read anything. The program is perpetually locked and I can't close out of it.
Something has really crippled this program and for the life of me I can't figure out what it is. I tried disabling the Norton Utilities Personal Firewall and Security, however this proved worthless.
Any suggestions? I also don't understand why Apple doesn't have a technical support phone line for issues like this. With over a million communications just iTunes alone, you would think they would have a more active support system than posting messages and waiting indefinitely for replies.

Error Code 8024200D while installing update KB3000850 for Windows 8.1
I have been prompted for the last 10 days to install the important update KB3000850 in my laptop, but the installation fails every time.
Two days ago, on March the 12th, I installed 31 updates without any problem. What is wrong with this particular update?
You will find below my dialogue with Microsoft Support Engineer, Mr Niranjan Manjhi, who referred me to you:
    Hi Michelle,
Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.
    I understand that you are unable to install the a specific update KB3000850. I will be happy to assist you with your query. Let me ask you;
Is your computer connected to domain?
Which security software is installed in the      computer?
Do you remember making any specific change in the      computer prior to the issue?
This November update rollup also includes all previous updates since the previous image update in April 2014 and this includes performance and reliability
    improvements.
    Cause:
This issue occurs because a process keeps a file in the component store open. Therefore, the file cannot be deleted or overwritten. Let's try the methods below and
    check the status.
Method 1: Depending on the architecture of your
Windows 8.1 operating system, I would suggest you to install the following package first and then try installing the KB3000850.
All supported x86-based versions of Windows 8.1: [link] Download the package now.
All supported x64-based versions of Windows 8.1:
    [link] Download the package now.
    Restart is required.
    Method 2:
If the issue still persists, run the Windows Update Troubleshooter and check the status.
    Click to run
    [link] Windows Update Troubleshooter
    Also refer to:
[link] Troubleshoot problems with installing updates
Hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to reply in case you face any other issues with Windows in future.
    Regards,
    Niranjan Manjhi
    Dear Niranjan,
    Thank you for your answer.
    To answer your questions:
    1) Yes, my laptop is connected to the domain,
    2) My security software is McAfee Total Protection, the same I use for my PC running Windows 7 XP,
    3) I did not make any specific change to the laptop. It is true though that I run regularly McAfee´s QuickClean.
In your answer, you suggested 2 methods for resolving the problem.
I chose to apply first the second one, i.e. I ran once again the Windows Update Troubleshooter, which revealed again the following status:
Potential Windows Update Database error detected Ox800F08F: Not fixed
Windows Update components must be repaired: Fixed
And a last information: Yesterday, McAfee´s Vulnerability Scanner was automatically activated, showing as "critical" the update in question ("important" according to Windows)!
As for applying the first method you suggested, I will need the services of a professional, someone more IT literate than myself.
    Michelle
    Hi Michelle,
Thank you for keeping us updated on the issue.
Since the computer is connected to domain, I would request you to post your query in the TechNet forums as your question is beyond the scope of what
is typically answered in this consumer forum and would be better suited for the IT Pro audience on TechNet.
Please post your question in the link TechNet Forums.

    Hi there @Achintya-only
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I see that you are getting an error code, when you try to install Windows 8.1 from USB or DVD. I am happy to assist.
Just to clarify, you are using a standalone Windows installation disk, you are not using a factory recovery image. Is that correct?
Have you run the hardware diagnostics on your notebook? HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 8)
What operating system was on the system before, and have you made a set of recovery media, for your original factory installation?
Please let me know what you find.

  • Internet Explorer issues after installing Update KB2955163 on Windows 8

    Dear,
Since we've installed Windows update KB2955163 on Windows 8, we've been experiencing the following issues:
    - After using Internet Explorer for a long while (one hour or longer), some websites won't work properly anymore. For example: list boxes and pop-ups don't appear.
    - After using Internet Explorer for a long while (one hour or longer), employees can't access any external webpages. They receive a message saying the webpage isn't available. Reconfiguring the Proxy-settings will temporarily fix this problem.
*The above problems don't appear on all of our computers running Windows 8.
We've found the only fix for these problems, is to uninstall Windows update KB2955163.
All of our affected systems are running Windows 8 Enterprise x64, and come from various manufacturers (Dell / HP etc.).
Is anyone of you guys familiar with these specific issues regarding Windows update KB2955163?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Thom

    Hi,
Did this issue occur on all computers which installed that update?
In generally, it's not most likely be Windows update cause.
    Let's narrow down the issue:
Have you tried to reset the Internet Explorer to check the result:
1.Close all Internet Explorer windows that are currently open.
2.Open the desktop, and then tap or click the Internet Explorer icon on the taskbar. Changing your settings will affect both Internet Explorer and Internet Explorer for the desktop.
3.Tap or click the Tools button, and then tap or click
    Internet options.
4.Tap or Click the Advanced tab, and then tap or click
    Reset.
5.In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, tap or click Reset.
6.When Internet Explorer finishes applying default settings, tap or click
Close, and then tap or click OK. You'll need to restart your PC for these changes to take effect.
If it persists, perform a clean boot to see if it caused by some third-party software:

Is it safe to use DISM /add-package to install updates on an online Windows image?
I mean what happened if you run the command on a folder which contains an update and another update which deprecates the another one?
And what will happened if you have installed an update and try to install an update which is deprecated by that update using DISM?

If you are wanting to install a Windows Update .msu file, use WUSA.EXE instead:

  • After installing update 1 for Windows 8.1 NTVDM.exe not working anymore.

Hi. After waiting for the new WSUS friendly version of the KB2919355 update, I deployed it via WSUS to various machines. After the update, one machine started giving NTVDM errors when calling the wuauclt.exe file.
I need a way to re-install the NTVDM.exe and NTVDMD.dll files in Windows 8.1 seeing that they were corrupted. I cannot find anything on the web on how to do this in 8.1.
    Please help.

    Hi,
Please check wuauclt.exe file version which located C:\Windows\System32. If windows 8.1 update 1 installed, its version should be 7.9.9600.17031.
In addition, please check Event Viewer if it identify this problem.

  • Update itunes on Windows XP computer

I keep getting the error message when trying to install update to my Windows XP computer get error message about privileges and Apple mobile device failed to start  won't retry or ignore

    Follow this article
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
In order like it tells you to.. and if it appears that the apple mobile device support does not uninstall or goes backwards just ignore it and move on thru the list in order.
Once you are done uninstalling all five components.. restart your computer
Once the computer comes back on and is fully up and started go to www.apple.com/itunes and redownload itunes and install it.
    This should resolve your issue!
If you want to try to avoid all that you can try this it worked for me.. close out all itunes files.. type in services and wait for it to come up.. click on services find the apple mobile device support and stop the service.. then go download itunes again and install it.. worked for me but I'm on windows 7 home premium.
    Good luck!

  • Windows vista recovery error CTOERROR.flg and following that error 0x643 while installing update

    Hi All
    system info : HP LAPTOP DV6 -1256tx , windows vista sp1 32 bit
When I am trying to install windows vista sp1 from recovery disks/partition I am getting the error from recovery manager prompting me to choose either to retry or see the details for failure : CTOERROR.flg in form of notepad on my desktop. I have done retry 100 times but to no avail. I cannot restart after this recovery failure message as it shows dialog box on restart: windows security update is not installed successfully or is not trusted. So, i have to go through recovery process again to see the desktop (everything functioning - internet, video, music all) but only once.
Last time i got this message too . When i did installing windows from recovery disks few months back, that time  i figured out to install all imp. updates  through  automatic  windows update. All the updates were installed successfully and then it restarted and gone through process of language settings, time settings and all....
But this time when i am trying to update windows, i am getting windows update error 0x643 which is for security update for .net framewrok 3.5 sp1 and family update.I do know the answer how to get away with this error from "windows help" and also from this forum too, which asks for installing .net framework updates from windows update site directly. But the problem is:
Windows update ask me to restart after automatic or manual windows update installation takes place and restart causes problem as it shows dialog box - windows security update is not installed successfully . I need to install all updates in one go like last time from my understanding.:
    1. So if i install windows update (to try my luck as last time) it shows 0x643 error for .net framework and asks to restart and after that when i try to manually install failed updated 0x643 it asks me to restart the windows for pending updates.
    2. Alternatively, If i try to install failed update first just after recovery failure it won't allow me to install important updates for vista sp1 and asks to restart windows.
All i need is to successfully update all updates through windows automatic update which is not happening at the moment.
Not even able to upgrade to sp2 bcz it too restarts for installing.
    Please Help.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Windows Update in Endless Loop of 'Installing updates" and "Undoing changes" on New Windows 8.1 Pro Install

I am setting new Windows 8.1 Pro computers, and am installing Windows 8.1 Pro to bare drives.  Everything goes fine until Windows Update starts installing updates, and then the computer goes for hours installing updates, and then "We
could not complete the updates Undoing changes".   It's an endless loop. It seems to be the same 38 updates.  This is a recent phenomenon.  I have not run into this until the last week or two on several new computer installs.
Again these are brand new installs, so something is clearly wrong with the Windows updates.
If anyone can please tell me how to avoid this, it would be much appreciated.
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
"  This is a recent phenomenon"
Have you made any modifications to the machines ?
To resolve this issue ,running the built-in troubleshoot tool is a very good beginning .It will automatically diagnostic the windows update components and check the configurations for us .
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\Fix problems with Windows Update
If there are antivirus software installed in these machines, please turn off them temporarily to have a check.
The command line included in the link as S.Sengupta posted is very useful and convenient to repair the windows corrupted files .We can have a try .
    "sfc /scannow" ,"DISM.EXE /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth "
We also can check the windowsupdate.log for more information to troubleshoot this issue .
     Run "windowsupdate.log"
If you have trouble in analyzing the log ,please upload them to the OneDrive and paste the link here .
    Best regards

  • Can't update quicktime on windows xp. Try to install 7.7.3 and it says I have a newer version installed. I don't of course, I have 7.3.1. Have never been able to update it. Even uninstalling older version it still says a newer version is already installed

Can't update quicktime on windows xp. I have 7.3.1 and when I try to install 7.7.3 it says I have a newer version already installed??? Even uninstalling the older one, it still says the same thing. I haven't been able to update it since 2007.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATION" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up").
In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC. Now try another QuickTime install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Error while installing the BAM Updater Service in Windows

    Hi all,
I am getting an error while installing the BAM updater service in Windows. When i type the "oraclebpmdatawarehouse install " command in the command prompt it gives error as follows:
    d:\OraBPMEnterpriseHome\bin>oraclebpmwarehouse install

Please can anyone tell me how to get rid of this error.
I have already done everything else like setting the database and other things.
    Thanks.

From the error message you specified, I guess you are trying to install MS Office SP2 package. If you are then its not MS Office package its just a Service Pack; something like a patch. You need to install a Full Base package first. Again, as mentioned by Rajiv - refer to MS Support
