Installing Version 11.1.1.3 Plan & Sequence: Questions

I have to install Essbase, Planning & Financial Reporting Version 11.1.1.3. For now it's one development server with 3 client machines (all developers who will need admin rights). My plan is as follows, please check, I have a couple of questions along the way:
Check for platform compatibility: Most likely going to be using Windows Server 2003 and default built in tomcat web server. Intend on using EPMA, so IIS 6.0 should be installed first (correct?)
Download files:
EPM Installer
Foundations Services Parts 1 - 4
Essbase Client
Essbase Server
Planning
Unzip all these files in one folder in the development server. Also unzip the EPM installer and Foundation Services on all 3 client machines.
For Server Install and Configuration:
Run the EPM installer on the development server.
Configure shared services on the development server. Then login to shared services and see if it works and is running. If so, then proceed. If not then come back to forums and SOS for help!
Configure Essbase and Planning on the development server, using a separate Oracle (or SQL) Database for each. (*For this all I have to do is create a database in Oracle or SQL Server for each component is that correct*? Stupid question but how do you guys usually name those?)
For client install and configuration
Unzip EPM Installer, Foundation Services, Essbase & Planning
Run EPM installer and under "Install By Tier" check mark ONLY the CLIENT products for Essbase and planning correct?
While configuring shared services use "a previously configured shared services" (the one on the development server)
How do I configure the database for the client components? Do I point to the one on the development server? Pls clarify this part for me.
I believe the above are all the steps in sequence. Pls correct me if I'm wrong. Answers to my questions plus any additional tips from experts and experienced users appreciated.

You are nearly there, the OS and server part seems fine.
The client part you don't need to configure any database part, client elements are usually just an install and then you are ready to use them.
It also depends on what client products you want to install.
If it is the excel addin then there is a standalone install available on "My Oracle Support"
If it is Smart view then there is a standalone install available.
If you want to use the essbase runtime client then you would have to extract the files you have pointed out and run the installer and select essbase client.
If you want the EAS client (though it can be accessed via the web) you would do the same thing with extracting the files.

Not sure what other client products you plan on using.

    Hi.
    You can save variable variant for planning sequence in modeler and then use it in process chain.
    In process chain you choose "Execute planning sequence" and add planning sequence with variant.
    All this if you using IP instead BPS.

  • RFC_ERROR_SYSTEM_FAILURE error in Planning Sequence in RSPLAN

    Hi everyone,
    Whenever we run the Planning Modeler in RSPLAN and choose any Planning Sequence either for changing or executing, or just selecting it the system throws the following error:
    "An exception occurred that was not caught., error key: RFC_ERROR_SYSTEM_FAILURE", and retrieve a short dump.
    This only occurs in all the planning sequences, which were working before without any issues, and this is only happening in BW development not in production.

    Thanks for the response.
    I've already searched for that not but haven't installed it yet. I'm gonna try it to see if it solves it, but the weird thing is that in production the issue doesn't occur, only in development.

  • Downgrade version of NI steptypes in a sequence

    We have a sequence , which includes the NI Action step in version 3.1.0.2 ,NI PassFailtest in Version 3.1.0.2 and  EditSubstep in version 3.1.0.9098
    This sequence should be modified on  a on a clean Teststand 3.1 installation with NI Action step in version 3.1.0.1 ,NI PassFailtest in Version 3.1.0.1 and EditSubstep in version 3.1.0.9095.  Just opening that sequence on 3.1 and saving it causes the Teststand 3.1 installation ( ni_types.ini )to be upgraded to the newer versions.  Any way to avoid that ?

    If this is not working. Try this.
    1.) Use a clean TS3.1 (best reinstall)
    2.) Start your editor (now clean Steps are loaded)
    3.) Load your SeqFile
    4.) Now - Type conflict
    5.) Be sure that "use currently loaded.." is selected.
    6.) Do not click Apply all just do it step by step to see which type is affected
    7.) Save your SeqFile
    8.) Close the editor no savings to NI-Steptypes should appear.
    9.) Reopen with no conflicts.
    If your production machines now having conflicts they are infected, too.
    If a copy from clean NI Types would not help, re-install and pray for more project money

  • Need Information of how to Consume/Execute Planning Function & Planning Sequence in Design Studio

    Dear Colleague,
    We are trying to have a PoC demonstrating BW planning function and Planning sequence in SAP Business Objects Design Studio.
    1. In the process, we have built our own Planning function and Planning sequences in our BW system and they are working as per expectation in the BW system.
    2. We added the Planning function and Planning Sequence on to the Design Studio App.
    But now how to we add these Planning function and Planning sequence on to the Dashboard.
    Is there any container to add these planning objects on to the dashboard.
    Or how to execute or Consume these Planning functions and sequences in Design Studio dashboard.
    And any Document or Information in detail would definitely help a lot.

    Thanks for replying!
    But Since this is an Internal project. We are already using Version 1.3.
    Solving double purpose of evaluating the tool and coming up with the application as well.
    As I said in my previous description, we were able to add Planning Functions and Planning Sequences on to Design Studio using menu options available.
    But not sure of how to consume or execute them in the app. To get the rows of records, change values, Save and Transfer values as we do it with the Planning function with BW backend.

  • How To Run Planning sequences automatically a BPS 3.5 web interface

    We are using BI on version 7.0 (Netweaver 2004s) yet since other planning applications were used in BW-BPS we are still using it, anyway when creating planning folders I can set son sequences to run before layout display. In web interface (via BPS_WB) this option is not available as a standard.
    I followed the steps from teh how to paper "How to run planning sequences on save and other events (WEB)" and even named my subcoponents as described in the document yet it doesnt work,
    I already checked the source code for the sub class and names of the components. does anyone have an Idea of how can I make it work?

    Hi,
      You can go the transaction code: rsa1 and then select "Meta data Repository" option on the left side.
    You can use Meta data repository to view the dependent objects for a infocube or any other BW object.
    In your case, you can select "Infocube" option on the left side and then go on selecting your infocube.
    Now you will get all dependent objects created on this infocube, which will include your plannign functions also.

  • BI IP Executing planning sequence via process chain not possible

    Hi,
    we use BI IP and have defined a process chain (RSPC) with value type process planning sequence. When we execute it, we get error message
    "Inconsistent input parameter (parameter: <unknown>, value <unknown>)"
    When we execute this planning sequence via the modeller or via SE38 RSPLS_PLSEQ_EXECUTE everything works fine. I thougt the cause could be the user of the job itself (job is executed with different user, and variant of planning sequence is user-dependent!), but I changed the user in the job itself as well without results.
    any thoughts?

    I executed with my user and have a SAP_ALL authorization. Perhaps it could be because we use authorisation with the old method (4.0) (-> I'm not sure on this). I also think it has to do with authorization. I'll check this out with our authorization consultant.

  • Currency Translation in Planning sequence with variable for target currency

    Hello ,
    i have a requirement, the cube contains multiple data in the Group Currency for multiple company codes. & I want to convert these amounts to another KF as local currency using planning sequence only (not using transformation, as the users want to do this when they require.)
    For this, i defined a Aggr level , filter & Planning function with Currency translation selecting the source field as AMOUNT_GC & target field as AMOUNT_LC using the Currency Translation type ZCTGCLC.
    The target currency is not know beforehand, as it depends on the company code of each records that comes in.
    Hence, Currency translation type uses  a Customer exit variable 'Z_R_0026' for target currency.
    This is customer exit variable which searches the Master data table of the Company code & replies back with the local currency of that particular company code (derived value from the company code variable also in teh filter).
    However, when i execute this planning sequence, it gives me an error saying, "no value found for variable 'Z_R_0026'
    1. when edit the CMOD code, to return only say "EUR" the planning sequence runs fine.However when i use this select statement to fetch the corresponding value of the currency using the company code reference from the company code master data table, it gives the above error. it seems to be a problem with the select statement.

    2. there is a option of using infoobject for target currency in the RSCUR itself, however, when i try to input the 0COMP_CODE for finding the attribute currency from this infoobject, it doesnt accept.
    has anyone tried this earlier ?

    I have a Question.
    If RSCUR were to only accept a Date InfoObject , it would be placed under a differnt heading.
    The Tab is "Currrency"  & the sub-Tab is "Target Currency"
    so i guess, it should accept other infoObjects as well.
    Moreover, the help on that InfoObject buttons says
    "Specification of an InfoObject (Characteristic) in which a currency
    attribute is stored in InfoObject maintenance. At runtime, the
    associated currency attribute is determined using the characteristic
    value and this is interpreted as source or target currency."
    & i have already defined 0currency as a attribute of 0comp_code. so this should work ideally.
    almost similiar CMOD code i have used for other too, but i dont know why only this one is getting struck.
    any help, pls.

  • How to use the same variable value for data entry and the planning sequence

    Hi,
    the scenario is the following:
    Using the WAD template a user enters cost center plan data. The cost center is selected by the chosen value for the variable "V1".
    Afterwards he shall push a button which starts a planning sequence (including saving the data and further functions). This planning sequence uses a filter that also contains the variable "V1".
    What or where has it to be defined that the planning sequence uses automatically the same value for the variable "V1" as selected for the data entry?

    You have to define in the planning function. The planning sequence is only a sequence and it read the planning functions underneath it.

  • No Authorization error in executing a planning sequence

    Hi,
    We are using BI 7.0 Integrated Planning.
    We have implemented Mark Bernaud's file upload solution. We have used a planning sequence that uploads the file and stores it in a cube. Using it, we are able to upload files without any problem when executing with a SAP User Id which has all the authorizations (the user id has SAP_ALL specified in its list of profiles). Now, we have a requirement where we need to execute the file upload using a user id which has limited authorizations. When we are trying to execute the file upload with the userid that has limited authorizations, we are getting the following authorization error.
    'You are not authorized to execute sequence PL_SEQ_FL_UPLOAD'
    where PL_SEQ_FL_UPLOAD is the name of planning sequence we are using. We have also included the authorization variable in the filters being used as suggested in one of the blogs but this didn't help.
    Could anyone please let us know the authorization objects to be added to the user id to enable access to this file upload.

    The objects you suggested were already there. We have successfully traced the error by switching on the trace using ST01. We found the reason for the error to be that display authorization is not provided for S_RS_PLSQ whereas execute authorization is already present for that.

    The planning sequence runs when the user approves on STS. The planning sequence runs for all profit center (this is a variable in the filter). I want to execute planning sequence for the profit center level selected on STS.
