Integrate active directory with Planning/ Essbase shared services security

Hi All,
we try to set up MSAD integration for Planning and Essbase 9.3.1.
Everyting works fine but the accounts that pop up are first and last name in the user field instead of the userid used in windows to login. so in windows i login with mroest but now in Hyperion i have to use Marc Roest.
DC=NL, DC=xxxx, DC=Corp
ID Attribute = ObjectGUID
User DN: CN=Adm Hyperion, OU=xxxx, OU=Utr
Can anyone please help how to use the samID as defined in MSAD instead of the full name as is now?

Hi John.
Do you know why OpenLDAP database would not migrate to the unique identity attribute say if I use sAMAccountName for the ID Attribute field on the MSAD User Configuration screen in Shared Service? It will not update the identity in OpenLDAP when I browse it, even after all the services have been restarted, including OpenLDAP and Shared Services...
Any help would be appreciated.

To provision LDAP user information for P6 EPPM for the first time:
Caution: Ensure that all users are logged out of P6 EPPM to avoid a reset of the P6 Administrator application settings.
Note: Verify which global profile is set as the default since this will be assigned to all provisioned users.
1) Log into the P6 Administrator application.
2) From the Authentication tab:
a. Fill in the appropriate settings under the Authentication folder, and make sure that Login Mode is set to NATIVE.
b. Fill in the appropriate settings under Database instance, and make sure that Authentication Mode is set to NATIVE.
c. Click Save Changes.
3) Restart the application server instance.
Note: If you do not restart the application server instance, the settings will be restored to the previous configuration after the next step.
4) Log into P6 as a user with privileges to create a new user.
5) Creating User Accounts for P6 EPPM to add a new user (in Native mode) that exactly matches an LDAP server user with rights to read the LDAP directory. Make sure to assign a global profile that contains privileges to add new users and search the LDAP directory and assign the appropriate project profiles and module access.
6) Log back into the P6 Administrator application.
7) From the Authentication tab:
a. Change Login Mode to LDAP.
b. Change Authentication Mode to LDAP.
c. Right-click the LDAP Connection Settings folder and select Test Connection.
d. Click Save Changes.
8) Restart the application server instance
Note: If you do not restart the application server instance, the settings will be restored to the previous configuration after the next step.
9) Log into P6 as the LDAP user created in step 5.
a. On the Users page, click the Add icon. The Add Users from LDAP dialog box appears for you to provision users from the LDAP repository:
Note: You must have the Add/Edit/Delete Users privilege and the Provision Users from LDAP privilege to search the LDAP directory. You do not need the Provision Users from LDAP privilege to import users from an LDIF file.
1. Either click the Load LDIF button, or enter an LDAP query (for example, uid=*) under Search users. If a search was previously performed by a user with the privilege to search the LDAP directory, the last query entered by that user will appear.
2. If you clicked the Load LDIF button, browse to the location of the LDIF file, and click Open. If you entered an LDAP query, click Search.
Note: Depending on your P6 administrative configuration settings, you might be prompted to log into the LDAP server.
3. A list of users will appear, grouped by status. For example, LDAP repository users that do not exactly match P6 EPPM users will be grouped together. If users exist in the LDAP repository, the User Name, Actual Name, E-mail, and Phone fields are populated (if you previously mapped those fields through the P6 Administrator application settings).
Note: The User Name field is equivalent to the Login Name field in P6. The Actual Name field is equivalent to the Personal Name field.
4. Select the option next to each user account that you wish to import, or select the option in the fields bar to select all users. New and modified users are automatically selected.
5. Click Import.
Note: The new users will be assigned the default global profile.

Essbase - Shared Services security problem

In a Shared services enabled Essbase server,
For a user/group can we define different access levels (say Read on one & Write on the other) to different databases belonging to the same application (BSO)?
If not, Is there any alternative?

Of course you can.
If you're on v11, the steps are as follows:
1) Create a group (I am going to assume groups and usernames).
2) Provision the group Essbase server access and Read access to My Very Favorite Essbase Database In The Whole Wide World (MVFEDITWWW) -- Sample.Basic. You could get fancy and create a two level group hierachy with the upper level group provisioned ot Essbase server access and the second group Read access to Sample.Basic if you wanted to.
3) Expand the application groups and drill into Sample. Right click on Sample and pick Assign Access Control.
4) An Application tab will open up with a Database drop down. Select Basic and check off the box that relates to your group. It will have the role of Read.
You have just assigned access to Sample.Basic.
Follow the same steps for Sample.Intl, etc., etc.

P.S. I believe the above holds true for 9.3.1 but the interface looks a little different. I never did it there -- all of my System 9 work was, alas, Planning only.

Planning and Shared Services security disconnect.

Hi,
We have an intermittent problem. We are running 9.3.1 of Planning, Essbase, and Shared Services, etc. We have 6 planning applications on the same server. We use oracle as the database. The problem is at some point in time Planning stops getting updates made in Shared Services. When it happens you can go into the planning application, view the security on any object, and click "Add Access". The "Users and Groups" select box get's populated with "<None Available>". If you bounce the planning service and come back in the "Users and Groups" is populated as expected. It also dosen't affect all of the application or the same applications.
We have an admin group that makes security updates. Mainly just adding users to native groups. When things are working the changes/additions flow through to the planning tables. (HSP_USERSINGROUP,HSP_OBJECT). We gave this group a query to run that shows the access a specific user has in planning. If a user is added to a group in SS they then run the query to make sure the access is granted in planning. When the query doesn't bring back the information they think should be there we know we have the issue and start scheduling an outage to bounce planning.
Anyone else seen this behavior and is there another way to fix this besides bouncing planning?

Essbase - Shared services security , User provison

Hi,
I am new to 11.1.1.2 Hyperion version.(worked on 9.3.1) I have some doubts on the user security in 11 version.
We have Distribution environment setup like Essbase on linux and remainng applications on windows 2003 server. Essbase is also registerd with shared services. Here are my questions.
1. If I change the Shared services Admin password (default password) will it effects any other applications?
*2. How to change essbase admin password (default password)?(from foreground we can change first time only)*
3. I am trying to login into EAS as well as essbase admin user but under essbase I am not able to create New User. The Create users option on security is disabled seems like already externalised. I am not able to get those users who are created in shared services evnthought using Refresh from Shared servcies+ option in essbase.
4. If I want to a user with only essbase applicatons provisioned what is the procedure.
Here i followed the procedure. Created xyz user in shared services and provisioned Only Demo applications. trying to loing EAS with xyz credentials login successfull and prompted for essbase credentials with server name , username (Extername authentication) getting failed. If i provide admin password at essbase server leverl i am able to connect and see all applications.
Please help me on this...

Is it the base install of 9.3.1 or is it a later version like 9.3.1.3
I know there have been a number of security issues being addressed since the base version.
e.g.
Security. Users are not de-provisioned properly, causing Essbase applications to remain accessible to

Not able to access the links to Essbase Console, Planning and Shared Servic

I am trying to access the links to Essbase Console, Planning and Shared Services but I get the following error message.
Error 404--Not Found
From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:

The server has not found anything matching the Request-URI. No indication is given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent.
If the server does not wish to make this information available to the client, the status code 403 (Forbidden) can be used instead. I tried to restart all the services on all the servers and also restarted the servers but it didn't work.
I found some more errors in the starter file on the Linux box.

Porting the Essbase/Shared Services to other landscape.

Hi ,
I need to port/refresh the Essbase/Shared Services (11.1.1.1 on Windows) from Development Environment to Test Environments. Both Environments are under different domains and I dont think I can usre LCM. I have already setup the Foudataion/Shared Services and Essbase on Destination Host. Can someone guide me how I can move the Essbase/Shared Services accross these Environment manually. Any document refrence or step by step instruction will be great help.

I never worked with CSSImportExport. I will be moving Planning Applicatoin, HFM and FMD along with Shared Services and Essbase. Can I use CSSImportExport for HFM/FDM etc. If you can point out to any good working example or doc on CSSImportExport that would be really very helpful to me. In the mean time , I willl be googling arround the internet about it.

Pointing Essbase/Shared Services/Etc to new Oracle DB

We're on Version 11.1.1.3 and I need to know if there are any tricky things with moving the Shared Services/Essbase repository from one Oracle server to another.
My initial thought are: Shut everything down. Back up the database, restore it onto the other server. Then I can either rename my TNS entry to point to the new server, or create a new TNS Entry for the new server, and go into the configuration of the EPM tools on each server, and change the Repository server to the new TNS server entry.
Thoughts, issues??? Essbase can be a pain, so is there more to it than this??

The database connection does not use tnsnames and uses JDBC, you will need to reconfigure the database information in the EPM configuration utility, have a read of the following doc in Oracle Support - How To Change Shared Services Database Repository in EPM 11 [ID 976279.1]

Unable to connect to Planning nor shared services

Hi,
Something weird happened:
Users were using Planning webforms in the office (http://server.com:8300/HyperionPlanning/LogOn.jsp) for about 2 hours and suddenly no one could log in.
When users entered userid/password on the planning application, the form was stuck in state saying “Authenticating User”.
The strange thing is that I am able to log into Planning (from my home PC, VPN into corporate network)
However, from all rooms in the building, no one was able to log into Planning nor Shared Services. Everyone could access the Internet and Intranet thought.
Any idea why? Restarting Planning and HSS services did not solve the problem. We even tried to use IP address in http://server.com:8300/HyperionPlanning/LogOn.jsp

I logged in as one of the users from my PC from my home via vpn - no problem.
Oh, they are getting a blank screen - they are not able to access Planning login screen.
Same userID can't get Planning login screen from corporate office. Planning admins can't login as well.
Just found out that all users can now log in.
Isn't that weird ?
I was wrong , the Windows administrator did NOT attempt to log into Planning using Remote Desktop directly to Planning server. It probably would have worked.

You need to expand on your question.
But the basic concept is you create or connect (for LDAP) users in Shared Services. You also create groups as required for these users. Then in shared services you provision those user to Planning applications (directly or indirectly through groups)
Then in Planning you will see users or groups. And in planning you connect them to either members in dimensions or to objects like Forms, Task lists, Business Rules.
There is therefore no such thing as synching Shared Services with Planning.
Note: the 2 steps mentioned above can be done in batch through load utilities.

Not able to access the links to Planning and Shared Services

I am trying to access the links to Planning and Shared Services but I get the following error message.
Error 404--Not Found
From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:
10.4.5 404 Not Found
The server has not found anything matching the Request-URI. No indication is given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent.
If the server does not wish to make this information available to the client, the status code 403 (Forbidden) can be used instead. The 410 (Gone) status code SHOULD be used if the server knows, through some internally configurable mechanism, that an old resource is permanently unavailable and has no forwarding address.
I tried to restart all the services on all the servers and also restarted the servers but it didn't work.
Please let me know how to fix this issue. Also please let me know where else can I find the logs to the errors.

Essbase, shared services, projects, users

I have installed shared services and cnfigured it
now installed essbase
EAS
Provider services
and configured in the above mentioned manner
(DID not start essbase and EAS till now)
when I log into shared services....i see only bussines rules under projects
no analytical services under unassigned applications.....
how can i see essbase server in shared services user management console.......
it might be a basic funda....i am not getting
help me in solving this....

In EAS, right click security and choose "Externalize users"
