Interactive Brochure

Does anyone know if I can use iDVD to produce an interactive 'brochure' that can run on any computer, the contents of which include a QuickTime animation and a series of PDF 'pages' containing images and text. I want the DVD to autorun with the animation, (with a 'skip' option), then open with a selectable menu to the various brochure pages. There would need to be an option to go back to any page or an index menu. Can this be produced in iDVD or does anyone know of a better way to produce this using Mac based software (i.e iLife)?

Okay -- that's progress. The alias (to your home page HTML file) allows the user to skip the navigation process, ie, the user would double-click the CD to open it, and then double-click the alias to start everything.
If you want the CD to autorun... that might take some research to do that in the Mac environment (I recall that Windows allows autorun software execution). Roxio Toast is very capable, so I'd investigate that as well as look around in other Apple forums. Here are a couple links:

So, making an alias is straightforward; autorun could be more challenging.

  • Creating Interactive Brochure for the Web

I am trying to find a way to create an interactive brochure with page curls, hyperlinks, printable, etc. Is this possible using Adobe software?
I thought it would be something you would create in Flash or Fireworks, but can't seem to find any info on it. I know you can create a primitive one in Indesign to a certain extent, but I am looking to add more that that to it.
Also, I created an interactive brochure from Indesign, but the file is about 6MB and loads very slow on the web.
I am just look for some input or advise in creating this kind of document.

I don't know how to make page realistic page curls but you could create a small page curling animation in the corner that is actually a button to the next frame.

  • What's the difference between a web site and a web application?

I'm stumped trying to come up to a difference between a web site and a web application for myself. As I see it, a web site points to a specific page and a web application is more of some sort of 'portal' to content and information.
But where I'm stuck is that a web application is still viewed through a browser (is it not?) and a web site can still view content dynamically, making the line between web site and application prety gray.
For instance, does a web site using ASP.NET or AJAX (I assume ASP.NET is AJAX's proprietary sibling, if not, ignore ASP.NET AND concentrate on the AJAX), becomes a web application because it can retrieve data dynamically and asynchronously or would a website
using PHP and a CMS be more of a web application because it forms the pages on request, based on the request of the client and its content in its databse?
Or maybe I'm totally wrong here - what differenciates between a web application and a website?

This is totally personal and subjective, but I'd say that a website is defined by its content, while a webapplication is
defined by its interaction with the user. That is, a website can plausibly consist of a static content repository that's dealt out to all visitors, while a web application depends on interaction and requires programmatic user input and data processing.
For example, a news site would be a "website", but a spreadsheet or a collaborative calendar would be web "applications". The news site shows essentially the same information to all visitors, while the calendar processes individual data.
Practically, most websites with quickly changing content will also rely on a sophisticated programmatic (and/or database) backend, but at least in principle they're only defined by their output. The web application on the other hand is essentially a program that
runs remotely, and it depends fundamentally on a processing and a data storage backend.

There is no real "difference". Web site is a more anachronistic term that exists from the early days of
the internet where the notion of a dynamic application that can respond to user input was much more limited and much less common. Commercial websites started out largely as interactive brochures (with the notable exception of hotel/airline reservation sites).
Over time their functionality (and the supporting technologies) became more and more responsive and the line between an application that you install on your computer and one that exists in the cloud became more and more blurred.
If you're just looking to express yourself clearly when speaking about what you're building, I would continue to describe something that is an interactive brochure or business card as a "web site" and something that actually *does something that feels
more like an application as a web app.
The most basic distinction would be if a website has a supporting database that stores user data and modifies what the user sees based on some user specified criteria, then it's probably an app of some sort (although I would be reluctant to describe Amazon.com
as a web app, even though it has a lot of very user-specific functionality). If, on the other hand, it is mostly static .html files that link to one another, I would call that a web site.
Most often, these days, a web app will have a large portion of its functionality written in something that runs on the client (doing much of the processing in either javascript or actionscript, depending on how its implemented) and reaches back through some
http process to the server for supporting data. The user doesn't move from page to page as much and experiences whatever they're going to experience on a single "page" that creates the app experience for them.

...can i make as many iweb websites as i want? ...and as many blogs as i want? ...i have never made one before....
....although, i do have my own small business and i do have a website that i paid a guy to make and also host....(which is a waste of $$$$ in my opinion as i think i can do a better job making one myself through iweb) ....
...anyways, i know it is splitting hairs but what exactly is the diff b/w a blog and a website ....i am under the impression that a blog is just a personal newsletter sort of thing,...?

  • Run swf file on ipad

I have exported a swf file from indesign CS5.5 ( contains audio, interaction, movie...) and I want to run it on my iPad, and off-course I can not install flash player on iPad. How can I solve this problem Without loosing interactivity? What is the right format to create an interactive brochure and become suitable with ipad ?.  Thanks a lot Sahar

Use the iBooks Author app to create .ibooks format, or follow instructions provide by Adobe to produce an .epub format file using InDesign.

  • Forms fields on multiple layers

Hi, I wonder if someone can give me an answer on this one or point me to a resource for this.
I have an interactive brochure for a conference with muliple buttons that turn layer visabilities on and off (There is a button for displaying each day's schedule for the conference etc.)
I want include a simple registration form and I want the form to be on a layer so that it can appear when a specific button (which sets the layer visability) is pressed.  Obviously if it can work on one layer, why not multiple forms on multiple layers, hence the title of the post.:)
Can this be done in Acrobat?  I have searched and tried it and have not met with success.  btw yes - I know I could just add an extra page with a button pointing to that page, but I was wondering if there was a more elegant solution:)
Any help, direction etc. would be greatly appreciated.
    Grahame Dryden

    Hi,
Since my layer visibility is triggered by buttons, I would add it to the action for the button.  Just select Javascript from the choices and code it that way.
I created the form in InDesign so one way would be to create the text fields there and try the forms wizard in Acrobat to see if it will recognize the fields.  Alternatively you can just add the fields in Acrobat after the export from InDesign.  Then set their visibility to invisible when the pdf is opened and toggle them based on the button pressed.
I don't have the specific Javascript since I didn't end up needing it, and I am not a javascript expert.  However I am sure there are plenty of examples out there for this.

  • Oracle database discovery and licensing

    hi
i m into compliance auditing for oracle
i want to find all oracle apps installed on a box or network mainly nonwindows asap
can you please help me on how to find installations of oracle products and apps from the network or server
please also reply on [email protected]

    Hi!
a whole lot of your activities for license compliance depends upon the products deployed and contracts that you signed off with Oracle.
There are a coupld 3rd party vendors out there that claim that they can identify Oracle deployments that are not validated by Oracle.
Another source that can help you on the next steps to be compliant is Oracle License Management Services. They do work for different products in order to measure usage and deployment. Find your contact and further details here:
    http://www.oracle.com/corporate/lms/index.html
Read more in the Oracle License Management Interactive Brochure (PDF): http://www.oracle.com/corporate/lms/license-management-services-interactive-brochure.pdf
    Contact http://www.oracle.com/corporate/lms/contact.html
Further source can be Oracle Support as they continously develope on managing your asset through the Oracle Enterprise Manager for all Oracle products: http://support.oracle.com the key word is Oracle Configuration Manager (OCM) in relation to the Enterprise Manager (OEM).
Hope this helps a step further.

  • Newsstand requirements

What are the requirements for submitting an app to the Apple Newsstand?
Is it just for magazines and newspapers?
Does it have to be a subscription?
Are the guidelines spelled out somewhere?

    Thanks Bob.
I've got a client who insisting they want their app in the Newsstand, but their content is basically an interactive brochure.
It's already been approved for the App Store.

  • How do you share and view multi article folios on any desktop computer without DPS?

How can one view a multi article folio on a desktop computer, mac or pc, using the Adobe Content Viewer?
I need this for desktop sharing purposes, for people without DPS of any other Adobe software installed (except for probably Content Viewer).
It`s an interactive brochure that needs to be spread among a number of people. Some use mobile devices, but others use Desktop computers.
    Thank you.

DPS is essentially a mobile publishing platform.
The only desktop ACV that is available is for Windows 8.1. Otherwise these
    folks need tablets.

  • How do I keep the format in a fillable PDF, specifically the "$" symbol and the 2 decimal places?

I created a fillable form in Acrobat Pro and when we use it in Adobe Reader on the iPad, the preset format for money doesn't stay when the fields are populated, but if we email the filled form back to the iMac, the format is there and it's fine.  Any suggestions?  Do I need to do something with the original fillable form so that it carries over to the iPad?

I have been having a similar issue for a client's interactive PDF report that needed the "Show/Hide" feature in InDesign to reveal many acronyms' definitions in a "Pop-up" box when the acronyms were clicked on. Then the "Pop-up" boxes could be clicked on to close themselves using the same "Show/Hide" feature. While I have been going a little crazy the last FEW MONTHS scouring the forums and blogs (and just spent an hour and a half on the phone with Adobe's tech support staff that apparently only support desktops and laptops but have NO CLUE about the delivery of Adobe content via tablets and other mobile devices), I can say that a few things have been helpful - on the expert blogs (but sadly not in any of Adobe's support forums or call centers).
Buttons in interactive PDFs are NOT supported in iBooks or Acrobat Reader on the iPad.
Basic buttons, like navigational buttons (go to next or previous page) or submit, DO work in the "PDF Expert" app, which is $9.99 in the App Store.
So far, no matter which workaraound I have tried from the forums and blogs, the "Show/Hide" buttons still do NOT seem to work properly in even the "PDF Expert" app. (I see a highlight field where my buttons and pop-ups should be but no content in them - no text and no background - only a translucent highlight that shows that somewhere in there it's trying to work. The highlight fields even show and hide the way the buttons and pop-ups are supposed to, which is maddening!)
The only recommendation I could get from the Adobe tech support folks was to use InDesign and the Digital Publishing Suite (DPS) instead and publish an app through the iTunes Store.
Unfortunately that is NOT an option for me because my client's report is confidential and being sent to only a small group of less than 100 people.
I could bypass the iTunes Store and distribute the "Ad Hoc" method of attaching the .ipa file (the app file) to an email list of up to 100 people but my client would have to buy the DPS Enterprise Edition, which costs upwards of $20,000. (Yes, that's $20K in American dollars.)
There is NO option to distribute "Ad Hoc" with the Single Edition of DPS which comes with the Creative Cloud. I guess a lot of people ask that of the DPS forums and the experts give cranky repies that "No, it is just not possible with any DPS version less than the Enterprise Edition."
There is no middle ground on this yet but a lot of people seem to be asking for it. What's up with that, Adobe? No support for the small to mid-sized businesses for simple interactive brochures and reports that they don't want to release to the world, just to a select few?
The only solution I have found even slightly feasible is to create buttons that control "Multi-State Objects" (or MSOs) to behave similarly to the "Show/Hide" buttons and create a DPS .folio file from the InDesign doc.
I still can't recommend that my client pays $20,000 to be able to distribute his interactive quarterly report but I think I found a way around a small distribution.
You can share a .folio file with people through an email from the "Folio Builder" panel in InDesign. (See this help file: http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-publishing-suite/help/create-folios.html and scroll down to the "Share Folios" section.)
Apparently, this link is not permanent, but I haven't found an answer anywhere as to when it will time out. I'm thinking at least 3 months will be enough for my client for the time being until the next quarterly report comes out. Hopefully by then Adobe will have come up with a cost-effective solution for the small to medium-sized business that wants to publish interactive documents for the iPad or the PDF apps on the iPad will become mature enough to handle these slightly more robust interactive features.
I hope this was helpful to some of you trying to do something similar. If anyone has an elegant solution for the nearly-working interactive PDF on the iPad, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

  • Create an interactive digital brochure

Which of the Adobe Suite applications is best suited to create an interactive digital brochure? I am new to Creative Coud and fairly new to most of the Adobe Apps but wanting to learn. Indesign or Illustrator plus which others?
I want to be able to view brochure on desktop and mobile platforms and I want the brochure to include page flips, video, animation, etc.

You can't do all of those things in the same kind of digital file. You can choose InDesign. Your choices are interactive PDF, SWF or a tablet app with Digital Publishing Suite. You need to investigate which of those features work with which output.

  • How do you create a brochure for a website that is interactive and opens like a real brochure?

I've created a brochure in Indesign. I can make it interactive and have the pages turn like a book, but I want it to open like a brochure. How can I do this and with what program?

Next we'll want folding pieces represented on a screen that represents the unfolded piece of paper behaving like a pdf, behaving like a folded piece of paper.
    It's like inception!
    I use BoxShot 4 - you can save a 3D pdf.
It doesn't allow folding - but gives it a good idea.

I'm new to InDesign CS4. Could someone help me in explaining how I can create a single turning page peel interactive online book. I have the job done in InDesign using spread pages format.... and I'm looking to try and output to SWF format as single pages (not spreads). How do insert single pages as I keep getting spreads outputted to SWF format so that a single page displays online and peels to the next page.

  • Digital Publishing and Interactivity with digital magazine on my own server

Hello... I am researching what would be the best plan of action for my project... need to design a digital magazine for the web that is interactive and has rich media like video, animations, etc.
I am thinking of doing the following... design my animations in Edge Animate that will output html5 friendly animations, then use Indesign to design my master digital magazine like the way I want to with embedded rich media and symbols that have interactivity options.
I am unsure of my next step, or if I am on the right track... should I bring in this Indesign file as a format compatible with Html5, CSS3, Wordpress or what? And use Jquery plugins within the overall structure to add flash like effects.
    Any suggestions?

  • 6-full-size page brochure - want it to be larger in PDF view

I hope I can explain this correctly. I created a 6-page (8.5 x 11) brochure/report in InDesign using a page size of 25.5 x 11. When I create the PDF, it makes it into two 3-page spreads that are very tiny. When the client goes to print it, the 3 pages all print on one 8.5 x 11 page. How can I make a PDF that shows each page of the 6 pages on a separate page? Is it even possible since I created this like a brochure? Thank you!

    I created a 6-page (8.5 x 11) brochure/report in InDesign using a page size of 25.5 x 11.
In InDesign, what was your document size? 25.5 x 11? (Normally a really bad idea to design "imposed")
When I create the PDF, it makes it into two 3-page spreads that are very tiny.
Well, AA is fitting 25.5 inches onto a monitor...14 inches wide at best.
When the client goes to print it, the 3 pages all print on one 8.5 x 11 page. How can I make a PDF that shows each page of the 6 pages on a separate page?
Does the client have capabilities to print 25.5 x 11? Their local AA may be defaulting to lettersize, which can be changed via "Choose Paper Source by PDF page size" or through the Properties button for their printers features.
Re-read your post, AA is Scaling to fit the Paper, no surprise. They would at least want to tile.
Is it even possible since I created this like a brochure? Thank you!
Redesign that to a 6 page document.
All above  could be subject to CS5's ability to create interactive spreads which you may want to deselect for 6 lettersize pages; I have not loaded CS5 yet.
