Interactive Report Filter Problem

Hello,
I ran into a problem with an interactive report today. When the report first loads, no issue. If a filter is added, an error is returned. The error is actually generated by an assertion routine that raises and exception if a NULL value was passed in. Here's a modified/simplified version of the query:
SELECT id,
name,
dept,
emp.year_of_emp(hire_date) AS years_of_employment
FROM emp_table
WHERE id IN (
SELECT c001
FROM apex_collections
WHERE collection_name = 'EMPS_UNDER_MANAGER'
);Again, when the report first loads, no problem. Then when the manager applies, say a filter on dept, an error is raised from the emp.year_of_emp function because a NULL value was passed in.
I know that all emps with an emp id in the collection have a hire_date so I don't feel as though I should have to add another condition in the where clause to filter those out (although that is the work around at this point). Anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Dan

Roel,
Hey there! Hope you enjoyed your time off ;) Thanks for having a look...
Yes, of course I "could" update the functions, but this is NOT something I want to do. I'm one of those people that subscribes to Coding by Contract and the assertion routines at the beginning and end of my subprograms are an important part of that.
This may be a lack of understanding on my part with regards to the order in which Oracle does it's thing - or a bug in Apex... I'm able to duplicate the problem on apex.oracle.com: dmcghan/test/test.
Log into the demo app with admin/dmcghan. The home page has an interactive report, filter the name and you should get the error. When you look at the query you'll see a filter in the where clause that goes against the apex_collections table. This is populated from the post-authentication procedure. Let me know if you have questions.

• VERY STRANGE Interactive Report Filter Error

I have a very interesting problem happening with an interactive report in my APEX application. The report runs just fine and has been in use for about 6 months. Just recently, the users have begun to run into problems when using the filter capability within the report. There is a specific column heading (RH Analyst) that they typically click on and select a specific analyst name (the list contains 10 entries). Most selections from the filter list work fine. However, when one specific name is chosen, they get the dreaded ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small+* error.
I have been working to narrow the problem down and have found the following:
1. The filter error is related to the content of one specific column (not the one I am filtering on)
2. The column that is causing the error is a CLOB datatype
3. The data in the CLOB column was inserted into the database from a form utilizing an "HTML Editor Standard" type of item
4. The data in the CLOB column was copied and pasted from an email that was being viewed using Outlook 2007
5. If I try to recreate the problem with exactly the same information, but copied and pasted from Outlook 2003, I don't experience the problem.
6. The only people experiencing this problem are people who have upgraded their system from Microsoft Office 2003 to Microsoft Office 2007
7. When I try to load the form with the data that was stored in the database, I get a 404 page not found error. This is the same error that I get if more than 32k of data was saved into the CLOB.
The data pasted into the HTML editor from Outlook 2007 (_this is the data that causes problems_) and saved to the CLOB looks like this when I extract it in SQL Developer

• Interactive report performance problem over database link - Oracle Gateway

Hello all;
This is regarding a thread Interactive report performance problem over database link that was posted by Samo.
The issue that I am facing is when I use Oracle function like (apex_item.check_box) the query slow down by 45 seconds.
query like this: (due to sensitivity issue, I can not disclose real table name)
SELECT apex_item.checkbox(1,b.col3)
, a.col1
, a.col2
FROM table_one a
, table_two b
WHERE a.col3 = 12345
AND a.col4 = 100
AND b.col5 = a.col5
table_one and table_two are remote tables (non-oracle) which are connected using Oracle Gateway.
Now if I run above queries without apex_item.checkbox function the query return or response is less than a second but if I have apex_item.checkbox then the query run more than 30 seconds. I have resolved the issues by creating a collection but it’s not a good practice.
I would like to get ideas from people how to resolve or speed-up the query?
Any idea how to use sub-factoring for the above scenario? Or others method (creating view or materialized view are not an option).
Thank you.
Shaun S.

Hi Shaun
Okay, I have a million questions (could you tell me if both tables are from the same remote source, it looks like they're possibly not?), but let's just try some things first.
By now you should understand the idea of what I termed 'sub-factoring' in a previous post. This is to do with using the WITH blah AS (SELECT... syntax. Now in most circumstances this 'materialises' the results of the inner select statement. This means that we 'get' the results then do something with them afterwards. It's a handy trick when dealing with remote sites as sometimes you want the remote database to do the work. The reason that I ask you to use the MATERIALIZE hint for testing is just to force this, in 99.99% of cases this can be removed later. Using the WITH statement is also handled differently to inline view like SELECT * FROM (SELECT... but the same result can be mimicked with a NO_MERGE hint.
Looking at your case I would be interested to see what the explain plan and results would be for something like the following two statements (sorry - you're going have to check them, it's late!)
WITH a AS
(SELECT /*+ MATERIALIZE */ *
FROM table_one),
b AS
(SELECT /*+ MATERIALIZE */ *
FROM table_two),
sourceqry AS
(SELECT  b.col3 x
, a.col1 y
, a.col2 z
FROM table_one a
, table_two b
WHERE a.col3 = 12345
AND   a.col4 = 100
AND   b.col5 = a.col5)
SELECT apex_item.checkbox(1,x), y , z
FROM sourceqry
WITH a AS
(SELECT /*+ MATERIALIZE */ *
FROM table_one),
b AS
(SELECT /*+ MATERIALIZE */ *
FROM table_two)
SELECT  apex_item.checkbox(1,x), y , z
FROM table_one a
, table_two b
WHERE a.col3 = 12345
AND   a.col4 = 100
AND b.col5 = a.col5If the remote tables are at the same site, then you should have the same results. If they aren't you should get the same results but different to the original query.
We aren't being told the real cardinality of the inners select here so the explain plan is distorted (this is normal for queries on remote and especially non-oracle sites). This hinders tuning normally but I don't think this is your problem at all. How many distinct values do you normally get of the column aliased 'x' and how many rows are normally returned in total? Also how are you testing response times, in APEX, SQL Developer, Toad SQLplus etc?
Sorry for all the questions but it helps to answer the question, if I can.
Cheers
Ben

Hi,
I went quickly over this:

This should help. it shows you how to prepare the URL of the wanted report. and you can choose button action Redirect to URL.
There is more ... give me one minute :)
Ok.. This is what you need:

• Interactive Reports filter ignoring case

Is there a way to have the built-in interactive report filter ignore case? I am currently passing the 'LIKE' filter to my interactive report to search for employee names. I want it to ignore the case so 'SMITH' would be the same as 'Smith' when doing search.
ie. upper(:P1_NAME) like upper(EMP.NAME)

But I'm not capturing the time. The default format is DD-MON-RR.
This is crazy, I have used other Adhoc tools that didn't treat dates that way.
Seeing as the operators change depending on the data type selected by the user, the option must be controlled in the application. Oracle is excluding it for some reason, but they really need to let the administrator control that.
This is in Interactive Reports. The users don't want to have to format the dates, or anything else. They just want to filter the data to a certain date and the = sign should be allowed. If they are capturing time, then the administrator can truncate the date and make it available via another field/column.

• Interactive report filter for date not working correctly

Hi,
I am having an interactive report. I tried to give a filter for a column(created_on) as created on>29-oct-2009 17:17
but i am getting the row containing created on as *29-oct-2009 17:17* in the report result. How can i correct this
problem
Thanks,
TJ

Hi,
I think it is because seconds.
So it is 29-oct-2009 17:17:00 and your record is e.g. 29-oct-2009 17:17:02
br, Jari
Edit
You can use trunc function in your select so that it round date to minutes
TRUNC(created_on,'MI') AS created_onBr, Jari

• Htmldb_application array reset based on interactive report filter

Hello
I was searching various forums on this topic and did not find usefull answer. I must be doing something wrong or just do not understand how come that others do not have this problem?? Anyway, here it is.
I have interactive report where first column is checkbox. Using submit process , I perfrom inserts/ deletes in database based on checbox array (htmldb_application). Everything works well untill I do not use filter on one of the columns. Such action results in resizing the report ( so number of rows is re-ordered / changed ). I want to run the same submit process on resized list, but it is not possible, because the array points to different/non-existing rows. I would expect that the array gets "reseted" accrording to the new result list, but it does not??
Example:
I load the page with the report, where I have 10 records. Two of them, row 5 and 7, have in column X value '1'. If I leave the report as is, check checkbox on any line and run submit process, action is succesfull.
Now I change the filter and I will display only rows where column X=1. Report now have 2 rows. I check checkbox on the first one, submit the process, but the arrays refers to row 5 ( the old resultset), which is not present in the report now ??
Can I somehow achieve arrays reset based on the interacitve report filter applied? Or any other solution?
Thanks in advance
Ludek

from REF_CUSTOMER_UNIQ big ) r ) r where rownum <= to_number(:APXWS_MAX_ROW_CNT)As you can see, the 'rownum' is gotten in the inner query. I suspect that when you apply a filter, the filter is applied to the outer query. Hence, the rownums will not be as you expect them to be. Instead of using the 'rownum' as the values for checkbox 1 and checkbox 2, I suggest you use a concatenation of
inst_id and customer_cd. In the after submit process you can then just loop through the f01 and f02 arrays , split the concatenated values back into their inst_id and customer_cd components and perform the Insert or Delete.

• Interactive Report filter using "in"

I am using an interactive report, and I want to filter using the "in" criteria. The data I want to filter is a person's name, and it is a concatenation of the entire name, last name first. I have no problem doing this filter on just the first or last name, but the concatenated field has a comma in it, and that seems to be throwing the filter off.
What automatically populates when I click a name from the list is something like:
Abraham, Adam
I can see that it would probably be interpreting that as two different values. But even if I put single or double quotes around the name, it still does not work correctly.
An example available at:
http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=41923:1
Try doing an "in" filter on the "name" column.
Thanks,
David

David,
The comma is the operational separator for the 'IN' clause, so you are right, the filter sees each part of the name as a parameter. Just use something else as the separator (like a space) and you will be good to go.
Keep Smiling,
Bob R

• Interactive Report Filter Operator Tool Tip

I had question raised to add a Tool Tip to the Operators in the Filter on the Interactive Reports.
When the Operator select list is displayed the Managers don't know what all the operators mean. I noticed that if the mouse is hovered over an operator there is a Tool Tip displayed that says "Operator".
Where and how could that Tool Tip be modified to display a defination of what that operator is for, if it can be done at all?
Please let me know if you need more information.

I've made progress on this task, but I'm also having some issues.
I've obtained the code as you've suggested and found that there are a few Operator lists.
There are:
apexir_STRING_OPT
apexir_CLOB_OPT
apexir_NUMBER_OPT
apexir_DATE_OPT
apexir_PSEUDO_OPT
What I've done:
Created Dynamic Actions for:
apexir_STRING_OPT
apexir_CLOB_OPT
apexir_NUMBER_OPT
apexir_DATE_OPT
For each Operator list the Dynamic Actions are created like (changing the names and Operator selections as needed):
name: Add tooltip to Date filter operators
- event: Get Focus
- selection type: jQuery Selector
- jQuery Selector: select#apexir_DATE_OPT
Create a true action with the following settings:
- action: Execute Javascript Code
- code:
$(this.triggeringElement).find('option').each(function()
if(this.value == ">")
$(this).attr("title", "greater than - Value in Column is greater than the value in Expression");
else if(this.value == ">=")
$(this).attr("title", "greater than or equal to - Value in Column is greater than or equal to the value in Expression");
else if(this.value == "<")
$(this).attr("title", "less than - Value in Column is less than the value in Expression");
else if(this.value == "<=")
$(this).attr("title", "less than or equal to - Value in Column is less than or equal to the value in Expression");
else if(this.value == "is null")
$(this).attr("title", "is null - Value in Column is empty");
else if(this.value == "is not null")
$(this).attr("title", "is not null - Value in Column is not empty");
else if(this.value == "is in the last")
$(this).attr("title", "is in the last - Value in Column is in the last x timeframe");
else if(this.value == "is not in the last")
$(this).attr("title", "is not in the last - Value in Column is not in the last x timeframe");
else if(this.value == "is in the next")
$(this).attr("title", "is in the next - Value in Column is in the last x timeframe");
else if(this.value == "is not in the next")
$(this).attr("title", "is not in the next - Value in Column is not in the last x timeframe");
else if(this.value == "between")
$(this).attr("title", "between - Provides a means to test whether an Expression falls within a range of Values");
})The problem is that the Tool Tips are only showing for the STRING Operator list. If a numeric column or a date column are selected the Tool Tip shows as 'Operator'. I thought that maybe it was a conflict with all these Dynamic Actions so I moved the STRING Dynamic Action to the last one in the sequence and put the DATE Dynamic Action as the first in the sequence. Still only the Tool Tips for the STRING columns are displayed and not the NUMERIC or DATE.
I've tried to see if there was possibly a different name being used for the two lists that don't display, but I haven't found any other place where these lists are being created. I haven't found a way to set a breakpoint to confirm that's indeed the list being created with those names.
Would you have any ideas here?
Thanks,
Joe

• Variable or Substitution String in Interactive Report Filter

Background: I have an application that has a number of customized Interactive Reports where the Filter on the reports is set to a custom company name. When I install the application, I do not want to go through the reports and change the filter for the new company's name. The filters I need to change are all set by LOVs.
Question: Is there a way that I can do one of the following:
- associate a Filter with a Variable or Substitution String such that I can set that variable or string on login and then the user always sees the correct Filter displayed in the Interactive Report?
- or is there a code method to update a sql apex table behind the scenes to reset the Filter to the new value. So that I could run that after installation as part of a customization / set-up time?
System Info: 4.1.0.00.32
Thanks,
Stephen
I used the IR_FILTER function, and while it allowed for a new filter to be set. It did not save the filter after logout or for other users accessing the Primary report. I could not find a SAVE Interactive Report function. So, my question still stands on looking for a method to set and save Filters programatically.

Hi,
I don't have access to an Apex 3 environment to check this, but I think that the Apex 4 Interactive Reports save the filters slightly differently and an attempt to mimic that functionality using IR conditions would fail.
The only alternative I can think of right now is to have an additional column that returns 0 or 1 - eg:
SELECT FIELD1,
FIELD2,
FIELD3,
CASE WHEN (FIELD1 IS NULL OR FIELD2 IS NULL OR FIELD3 IS NULL) THEN 1 ELSE 0 END INCLUDE_NULLS
FROM YOURTABLEand then apply a filter to INCLUDE_NULLS = 1

• Interactive Report Filter Expression

I am a (new) user not a developer.
The Apex developer has presented me with a web page containing an Interactive Report interface.
I seem to be managing just fine, for the most part, except to make a filter with multiple OR statements.
I can easily make multiple AND statements.
Is there some trick or special way to write the filter statement (OR is this just not possible with Interactive Report - excuse the pun)
Please help, the developer is stumped!

I don't think it's possible (someone can correct me if I am wrong) in 3.2.x, but certainly possible in version 4.
Taken from the Interactive Report help page:
FilterFocuses the report by adding or modifying the WHERE clause on the query. You can filter on a column or by row.
If you filter by column, select a column (it does not need to be one that displays), select a standard Oracle operator (=, !=, not in, between), and enter an expression to compare against. Expressions are case sensitive. Use % as a wild card (for example, STATE_NAME like A%).
If you filter by row, you can create complex WHERE clauses using column aliases and any Oracle functions or operators (for example, G = 'VA' or G = 'CT', where G is the alias for CUSTOMER_STATE).>

• Interactive report : subscription problem

I had set subscription for an interactive report. The frequency is Daily and there is no ending day.
The report is received daily on my mail in html format, but it is blank (2.4 KB). Only search field & search button are displayed.
There are not parameters to generate the report.
Please suggest the solution.

Hi Christina,
i have a smilar problem with Email subscriptions, i don't use items, but i use collections in the where clause!
Example:
select * from PUMA_MMRDB_GSM_LB a
where
case
when (select C001 from APEX_COLLECTIONS where COLLECTION_NAME = 'TMP_SELECTION') = 'BRD' then 1
when (select C001 from APEX_COLLECTIONS where COLLECTION_NAME = 'TMP_SELECTION') = 'REGION' and (a.Region in (select C001 FROM APEX_COLLECTIONS WHERE COLLECTION_NAME = 'REGION_M')) then 1
when (select C001 from APEX_COLLECTIONS where COLLECTION_NAME = 'TMP_SELECTION') = 'NL' and (a.NL in (select C001 FROM APEX_COLLECTIONS WHERE COLLECTION_NAME = 'NLK')) then 1
end = 1
Sometimes i see the Errror ORA-01722 in the 'error message' field of the apex_application_page_ir_sub view. I don't know if this related to the above.
Can you point me in the right direction?
thanks,
Wolfgang

• Interactive Reports - Filter Criteria Using Other Operators

Currently using version 3.1.2.
Is there any way to specify the operators that are used for filter criteria on an interactive report?
Trying to specify the following criteria...
LASTNAME like 'B%'
OR
LASTNAME like 'A%'
The interactive report uses an "AND" in this case instead of an "OR".
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Kris

Any comments would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks

• Capturing Interactive Report Filter Fields

I've a requirement where in a user can view data, apply filters to it, and then invoke an Oracle API by passing in the data set currently visible on the report.
If I can some how capture currently applied filters on an Interactive report, I should be able to recreate the same data on the server side before calling the Oracle API.
Is there a way to capture these Filter field out of the Interactive report?
Thanks,
Shikhar

Thanks again Jari.
I compiled Stew's package and setup a call like this:
DECLARE
v_variable   VARCHAR2 (5000);
BEGIN
v_variable := apex_ir_query.IR_QUERY_WHERE (app_id_in => 125,
page_id_in => 2,
session_id_in => 1058992121588043,
base_report_id_in => 6902307847490674);
DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE ('Query: ' || v_variable);
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS
THEN
DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE ('Exception :' || SQLERRM);
END;But this didn't return anything. Did some digging and ran the SQL below:
SELECT * FROM apex_application_page_ir_cond cond where application_id = 125Which revealed interactive report id values different from the ones returned by $v('apexir_REPORT_ID'); $v('apexir_REPORT_ID') returns 6902307847490674 but in the table its 7.76121620735057E15 (My Apex version is 3.2).
I'm not going to pursue it further, as I've decided to implement custom filtering functionality using ape_util.ir_query package. Thanks for your valuable help with this issue. Closing the question.

• Interactive Reports Filter Capture

I am looking for a method to capture the filter information on an interactive report to pass in a page branch.
For instance if the filter was Name like 'Doe%' I would like to be able to capture the fact that the current report was filtered that way and pass this information into the next page.
I realize that it can be much more complicated than this filter, but the concept is the same.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Todd

Todd,
Have a look at Stew's post here:
