Interested in creating a first time backup for 13'' MacBook Air?

Would love to create a backup version of my new MacBook Air!
Probably looking to create a default factory standing.
That way, any future downloads or applications that adversely affect my mac can be reversed back to "pure" system.
I don't have an external hdd yet! But before I go ahead and surf the web and download. I would like to create a backup to the system.
Who would like to share some light?

You can also back up wirelessly to a Time Capsule.   That's a combination wireless router and HD, and was designed specifically for wireless backups.  They come in 2TB and 3TB models: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD032LL/A/Time-Capsule-2TB?fnode=MTY1NDA0Mg
Of course, if you already have a wireless router, it's a pain to buy a new one.
If you want to use Time Machine, you might want to review the Time Machine Tutorial, and perhaps browse Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions, and Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule.

In addition, I have another question, after bought the Mac, I found there is a screw come out and we can touch it clearly, could I know why?

    Amanda,
I have asked the moderator to remove your personal information, including your email and serial number. Posting that information on a public forum is not very wise.
Regarding the loose screw take the machine to an Apple Store or AASP to be looked at.
Regarding your first  question, would you please re-word it, I'm having difficulty trying to understand what you are looking for.

  • Can I access the backup for my macbook from my iMac

My MacBook will not boot - time for a new one.  Is it possible to access the last backup for thae macbook from my imac?

If you are only after a limited number of files....and not a complete restore of the laptop....you can use Migration Assistant on the iMac to copy the files that you want from the Time Machine backups of the laptop.
Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > Migration Assistant
Connect the iMac to one of the LAN <--> ports on the Time Capsule if you can.......to speed the process 3-6 times over wireless.

  • First time user of Mac(Book Air) and mouse sensitivity not high enough

First time user of Mac(Book Air) and one thing that has bothered me is when I use a generic USB mouse and I've set the tracking speed/sensitivity to the max and it's still not high enough and it just irritates me to no ends. Am I not doing something properly being a first time mac user? Thanks in advance for any response.

Depends on the mouse.  "Laser" with shorter wavelengths are far too sensitive for me and need to be dialed down.  IR is worthless in my opinion because they cannot move properly across a black/white checkerboard.
I actually (to my great surprise) love using the trackpad and hate to use the mouse because trackpad keeps my thumbs directly between my hands while typing.  But that is just me.

  • Dear all, Since a week ago I observe that when I press the button for my macbook air to start a nap, first the screen turns to black but I can see the arrow (pointer). And only after few seconds the arrow and the screen really shut down.

Dear all, Since a week ago I observe that when I press the button for my macbook air to start a nap, first the screen turns to black (although I can see it is stil on) and I can see the arrow (pointer). Only after 15 seconds the arrow and the screen really shut down. It did not occur before, as a matter of fact it was instantaneous. What could be the problem?

Note the time in your Mac's menu bar or some other accurate timepiece. Then, press the button to put the MBA to sleep. Wait until the cursor disappears and for all indications that the Mac appears to be asleep.
Then, wake the Mac the way you normally wake it.
Then, find the Console app - it is in your Utilities folder and looks like this
You can find it by selecting Utilities from the Finder's Go menu.
    Open Console.
If the log list column on the left is not already displayed, show the log list by selecting Show Log List from Console's View menu.
Locate system.log in the list and select it. Many date and time-stamped entries will appear, hundreds of them, and you must find the entries relevant to your Mac's sleep problem. To do that type the words sleep cause in the Filter field at the upper left of the Console window:
That will cause all log entries to be hidden, except for the entries containing those words. The last entry in the list will correspond to the last time you woke the Mac. It will have a time stamp in the form hh:mm:ss later than the time you noted in the Mac's menu bar prior to putting it to sleep.
Make note of that exact time in hours, minutes, and seconds.
Next: Clear the filter field by clicking the x in the above screenshot. It should then look like this:
All previously displayed log entries will reappear.
Next: Find the log entry that corresponds exactly to the time you noted in hours, minutes, and seconds containing the words "previous sleep cause". You may have to scroll up or down a considerable distance. When you find that line, select it and drag your cursor up and prior to the entry corresponding to the approximate time you noted before putting the Mac to sleep. This will result in a selection of perhaps 50 to 100 lines or so.
One or more of them, along with their time stamps, may reveal the reason for the fifteen second delay.
Copy and paste those log entries in a reply.
Most of the entries will be cryptic but will contain information you might consider personal such as your Mac's name. If you do not want that information to appear, delete or obscure it when posting your reply. Leave enough information so that the entries can be deciphered.

  • Every time i start my MacBook Air i get the spinning wheel and have to soft boot (shift, control, option, power) it three or four time s before it starts

Every time i start my MacBook Air i get the spinning wheel and have to soft boot (shift, control, option, power) it three or four time s before it starts. It has only been over the last week or so I also found Safari will not load up and tyou have too open then shut from the drop down then restart it to get a page, any help pleas?

    Do this:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall
Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is
                    three times faster than wireless.

  • I delete my app store for my macbook air, how to recover

i delete my app store for my macbook air, how to recover?

The Mac App Store comes with Mac OS X, so you have to reinstall it. Open  > About this Mac, and tell us the OS X version you have.
If it's 10.7 or 10.8, hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting and reinstall OS X. You won't lose any file, but make a backup
If it's 10.6 or 10.5, you need the Mac OS X DVD and an external optical drive or a Mac or PC with Remote Install. Insert the DVD, hold the C key while your Mac is starting and reinstall Mac OS X. Then, open  > Software Update, and install the most recent version.
If you have a Time Machine backup, you can restore it instead of reinstalling

  • Please explain me, how to remove an usb stick or memory chip? With experiences only in pc:s, I do not find on my first apple e.g. MacBook Air a solution. Until now I have succeeded to destroy one chip full of photos and - there's no life more in the port.

Please explain me, how to remove an usb stick or memory chip? With experiences only in pc:s, I do not find on my first apple e.g. MacBook Air a solution. Until now I have succeeded to destroy one chip full of photos and - there's no life more in the port...
Someone told me just to remove the chip in clicking it to the trash can and voilá - it would be done. But as I did so, on the screen appeared a text which let me know, that that way had been the wrong one...
I should have clicked Finder plus something.... which I do not now remember but which was then not found behind the Finder.
So please would someone be so kind and tell me, where I can find explanations for the most simple functions. The manual I got does not include a clue.
    Thank you!

First make sure that no application is using or has open any files on the disk. Then:
Click and drag the disk icon on the desktop to the trash. Wait for the system to recognize the action, and the icon should disappear from the desktop. It is then safe to remove the device.
Alternatively, you can secondary click on the disk icon, and then primary click "Eject (name of disk)". Wait for the icon to disappear off the desktop, and then it is safe to remove the drive.
Here is a detailed help document on the subject.

  • How can I download the latest Microsoft Office for my Macbook Air through the App Store?

How can I download the latest Microsoft Office for my Macbook Air through the App Store?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Microsoft Office is not available in the App Store. Instead, you can purchase it in the Microsoft site > http://www.microsoft.com/mac
Note that there are other apps that do the same, like Apple iWork (available in the Mac App Store) or LibreOffice, open-source and free. I recommend you to give LibreOffice a try.
If you are interested in Office for Windows, you can find it in the Microsoft Store or at shops

  • Why is the time different on my Macbook Air and my iPhone?

    Hi All,
For some reason the time on my iPhone is consistently 7 minutes behind the time displayed on my Macbook Air (Mavericks). Both devices are set to display the time automatically according to my time zone. After checking time.org, it looks like my phone has the correct time. There must be a logical reason why this is happening and some kind of solution, no?
    Thanks for any advice.

    On your iPhone ..
    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
Then tap Settings > General > Date & Time
    Switch:  Set Automatically ON
No data is lost due to a reset.
