Interlaced? (jagged lines) issue when burning a disc

I uploaded some standard definition DVD-R footage into my 2011 iMac (550gb). To get the DVD-R's vob footage into FCPX for editing, I first transferred the vob's to QT MOV's via MPEG Streamclip. I then imported it into FCPX as is (SD 640x480), then edited and completed my project without any issues or problems in FCPX.
My plan was to burn the finished project back to an standard definition DVD-R. I wanted to try it via four ways. 1) Burn the disc straight from FCPX. 2) Burn the project as an IMG to my hard drive and make the disc later. 3) Export the finished project as an H.264 QT MOV (at 640x480) and then burn the disc via Compressor. 4) Burn the H.264 MOV via Toast.
Here's the big problem: When it was time to either burn the project straight from FCPX to a DVD-R, or take my QT MOV of the same project and burn a disc via Compressor or Toast, the finished DVD-R, when played on a DVD player or in my Mac showed MAJOR interlacing issues (those jagged wiggly lines on people's bodies, especially during camera movement).
So what's strange is, the QT MOV files and the VOB files that I exported to my hard drive from FCPX (before actually making the disc) look and sound perfect. But when I try to burn the actual disc via FCPX, or Compressor, or Toast, the interlacing issues (jagged lines) appear every time. So it's obvious to me that there's something that the disc burning process, itself, doesn't like, or is having issues with. (I tried changing it Progressive and nothing gets rid of those jagged lines.
Any advice or help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
J.

I did all all that before,
All what…including chaging field order and de-interlacong in Compressor?
Then it's probably not interlacing.
Post a screen shot of a frame before you imported into FCP and another sceen shot shot after exporting.
(Or is you'd prefer, upload a short section to Dropbox so we can see it and test it first hand.)
I used h.264 because there was no alternative.
I don't understand that; if you export as a master file, you should have a whole bunch of codec options.

  • Photo's out order when burned to disc

Hi, my photo's are in numbered order in the library but when burned to disc are all random,
they have been edited from 3 cards and saved as a smart colllection, how can I get them
to burn in order as library shows them !! thanks steve

You use the Export Dialog by clicking on <Export> bottom - left in the Library Module. See Screen shot:
This will open the Export Dialog. The second section from the top is <File Naming>. Click on the small triangle, see screen shot:
And select <Edit> from the list.
This will bring up the <File name Editor> where you can specify various parameters for renaming. i would suggest that you add sequential numbers in front of the file name to preserve the order of images. In the screen shot below I have selected a sequential number that will go from 1  to 10000 plus the existing file name.
Then click <Done> and <OK> and export your images to a location of your choice.
Since you are a newbie to Lr it would be good if you would watch some of the video tutorials on Adobe's website. Lr is a complex program and without the tutorials you will make mistakes and get frustrated. The links for the video tutorials are on the main page of this forum, to the right where it says <getting Started with Lightroom 4>.

  • "Internal Software error: %0, line%1" when burning to DVD

I recently upgraded my Premiere Elements 8 to 10 on my Dell laptop running vista.  I have a 24 minute slide show with some video clips in it and a menu.  I can output to avi, etc but cannot burng a DVD.  Everything looks normal until it gets to 99% of the burn then I get the error "internal software error: %0, line%1" and my DVD is ejcted and I have to cancel out of the burn process.  I've read various other similar problems on here but with slightly different error messages.  I've tried outputting an avi file, importing it and burning to DVD from that but get the same error message.  Any ideas?

I do not work for Adobe, nor am I affiliated with it in any way. No relatives there either. I come with no bias in my remarks to follow.
I have Premiere Elements 11 on Windows 7 and 8.1 64 bit and decided to take a look at what you feel is a bug in Premiere Elements 11 when it comes to burn to disc DVD-VIDEO on DVD using MPEG2 and .mp4 source files.
I took 1920 x 1080 @ 29.97 progressive frames per second (AVCHD.mp4) and 1920 x 1080 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second (MPEG2.m2t) into a Premiere Elements 11 NTSC/DSLR/1080p/DSLR 1080p30 project, added menus, and did a burn to disc NTSC  DVD-VIDEO Widescreen on DVD-RW disc. The total duration of the Timeline was 5 minutes. And the burn dialog presented with
Space Required 375 MB and Bitrate of 8.00 Mbps.
I used Premiere Elements 11 on Windows 7 Professional SP1 64 bit for the above test. That computer has 8 GB of RAM installed and has about 900 GB of free hard drive space. The computer used an internal LG Blu-ray DVD burner for the burn to.
I have never run into this "error internal software error: %0, line%1" in any version of Premiere Elements on Windows XP 32 bit or Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit in the past or tonight when I did this test.
Whatever you are encountering I cannot confirm the built in existence of a Premiere Elements 11 bug in this regard. This would suggest to me that you should consider looking outside of Premiere Elements software as the cause target. If you would like me to cross check those MPEG2 and .mp4 sources that were involved in this error "internal software error: %0, line%1", I would be glad to do that for you if you send sample via a Dropbox link posted in your thread.
But I suspect the answers are in the Windows Vista on which you are running Premiere Elements 11 or perhaps on some incompatibility or resource considerations between Windows Vista and Premiere Elements 11 (for that matter any version beyond your Premiere Elements 3.0/3.0.2). Unfortunately I do not have Windows Vista to incorporate into the testing. Do you have access to a Windows 7 or 8 computer?

  • Error message when burning a disc of photos

I was trying to burn a disc of a large number of photos - around 400, and I got this error message:  "The burn to the HL-DT-ST DVDRW GS23N drive failed. The disc drive didn’t respond properly and can’t recover or retry."  I did a sample burn of about 5 or 6 photos and it worked fine, but this large project failed.  I have a total of 1200 pictures I'm trying to burn.  Any advice?  Thanks for your help.  I have spent hours trying to get this project done.  It looks like it is in the "preparing to burn" stage for 10 or so minutes, then when it gets ready to burn, I get the failure message.  Thanks again!

    Take your choice:
    Bad discs
Dust bunnies in drive blocking laser
    Drive failing
    Crashed/corrupt firmware controlling drive
    Crashed system component
Try different brand of discs and/or slower burn speed
You don't say anything about your model computer.  With some you can reset software.  Of course sometimes restarting a computer can help.

  • Sound Issue when burning an imovie HD projet with iDVD

I've just finished a 45 minutes movie with a rich sound track, using the video recorded sound, mixed with music & garage band loops and effects.
In Imovie, I've used a variable sound level adjustment to have a good sound mix. When playing with iMovie, everything is fine.
When burning my DVD, the volume levels in the soundtrack are incorrect with big sound variations each time i've used a mix of 2 sound effect, one with a decreasing volume, the other one with increasing sound volume at the same time for example.
Is there any known bug issue regarding this ?
    Imac G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)
    Imac G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Problem found !
Karls answer's helped me to findout the issue.
    Nevertheless, this wasn't the bug.
When playing the movie in iMovie HD, sound rendering is not correct. When you burn your DVD, sound track is calculated to mix every sound tracks according to each sound volume curve defined in iMovie.
If you see a dot at the beginning of a sound track this mean that the DVD sound rendering will be incorrect.
Clean the and make sure that, when you select a sound object, you can change its volume by adjusting it, not manually, but using the general volume cursor. If not, you have a problem. Remake a perfect flat volume curve before adjusting it again.

  • Lose audio when burning to disc image.

Hey guys. I am losing my audio half way through my project when I play it on a dvd. My audio is there after I export to quicktime, but when I create the disc image through iDVD and burn through Roxio toast my audio is only there toward the first part of my project. The video portion is fine though. Any thoughts on this would be great .
    Thanks,
    D.T.

Burning a disc image and copying it to disc is the recommended workflow around here -- it is one more action that you have to initiate, but it provides greater control (set the burn speed down to 1x or 2x) and it is less demanding on your computer (fewer errors?).
Re the audio -- if the music was purchased from iTunes, you may be caught up in a problem that should have been resolved in iLife06. There's a workaround (burning a CD from iTunes and re-importing) but provide some more details on the audio.

  • CD boundary when burning 2-disc album

    Hello!
I wonder if it's possible to make iTunes respect the disc numbers stored in track metadata, when burning a 2-disc album. It's annoying that iTunes seems to fit as many songs as possible on the first disc. The problem probably also accumulates further in the case of 3 or more discs. I would like each iTunes-made disc to have as many tracks as the original recording.
One solution is to make a separate play list containing only the songs on a particular disc of the multi-disc album, and then burn the playlist. However, I would like to make this automatic.

Strange, that option is working fine here. Has it worked before on the same computer? Have you installed new drivers, or do you need to? The troubleshooting steps here might help. iTunes for Windows: Optical drive is no longer recognized, or "Disc burner or software not found" alert after install

  • PE 8 crashes when burning a disc

I have a new HP PC that meets all of the hardware requirements to run PE8. I have successfully developed one 20 minute video
with titles, transisitions and music. I recently used InstantMovie to develop a 2 minute video which includes both stills and video.  I used a
song from ITUNES.  The problem is I can not burn a disc.  PE crashes while encoding media.  Looks like it crashes at the same spot every time - 14% Into encoding media.   I tried un-installing and reinstalling PE8.  and using a WMA music file instead of a song from Itunes.  Nothing seems to work.  Thanks for your help.

Good morning.  I am thinking I may have had an "AH..HA" moment".
Yesterday I ripped a new music file that was a 48Khz WAV file using Audacity 1.3 Beta (unicode) and GSpot.  Then used the "get media' function of PE8 to import in into my project and burn a disc.  PE8 hangs at the 14% point no matter what I do.
Today,  I deleted the WAV file completely from the project, the organizer and even emptied the trash can, then tried to burn a disc of just the project, without music.  PE8 hangs at the 14% point just like before.  Can  I conclude from this experiment that the problem is not with the musc file, but there is something else going on instead?
Am I correct in locating the assets at the 14% mark.  If the project is 3:13 minutes long...14% is acually 28% into the project
    (3 * 60 + 12)*.28 = 53.76.  So there may be a problem between the 53 and 54 second marker in the project.
I was going to try to select another music file that I have used successfully on a previous project.  I realize this is an avoidance technique, but I am running out of options.
The song is from an album produced in 2002. I can't believe the security management for this album would be drastically different from other recordings I have used successfully.

  • Capturing Hi8 - Interlacing/horizontal line issues

Hi everyone. I'm in the process of transferring some old Hi8 home movies to my computer via Quicktime Pro's record feature. I have the recording preference set to 'Device Native' and as I'm recording, the picture looks great. But when it's done recording and I playback the saved .mov file the picture looks different (horizontal lines....some sort of interlacing issue). Does anyone know what causes this? I'm transferring the tapes via a Sony digital-8 camera w/ firewire. I'm no video expert, so any help is appreciated. Thanks a lot!

The Hi8 footage is interlaced. If you not going to dvd but going to view this on a computer screen you need to de-interlace the video.
Here's a free program that will de-interlace the video, MPEG-Streamclip. Not the best in the world for de-interlacing, but for a free program and it's not that bad.

  • Internal software error: .\vobulator\titleplanner\cgopgrouper.cpp, line 401 when burning DVD with sl

I am burning a DVD that has 10 slideshows. Each slideshow is treated as a chapter. I have burned DVDs in the past using this method with no problems. Now, with this project I get the following.
internal software error: .\vobulator\titleplanner\cgopgrouper.cpp, line 401

This error came up again (the first time i had to rebuild), and i figured out that it had to do with a clip i had in a timeline that needed trimming, and would not butt up cleanly to the preceeding clip. i am assuming that the chapter point i inserted did not fall on a GOP, and generated this error.
when i took that clip out of the timeline and put it in it's own seperate timeline, the disc burned with no problem.
hope this help someone else skip the frustration i had.

  • Encoding media gets stuck at 17% when burning DVD disc

    Hi,
I am currently trying to burn a dvd on adobe premiere elements 11. The movie is 9.3GB and I am burning onto a 4.7GB disc (Tried a 8.5GB dual layer the other day and same problem occurs).
I clicked burn yesterday at 2pm and the first 4 stages of encoding were completed within about 90 minutes, then it moved onto encoding media. At 4pm, the blue bar stopped at 17% and has remained there since yesterday. Is this normal?
Should I just leave this to run over the next few days?
I successfully burnt 3 copies of a 1.8GB short film last week so know it works, just taking forever...
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    R Mc 99
Sorry, I think that I must have lost track of your prior post with the information that was on its way. Glad you posted your follow up message.
If you do not have an external hard drive to which to point the Scratch Disks, then please use the following scheme for now...
    Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks
    a. Point them all to the same place. Remember, the project's Save In location is set in the new project dialog, not in Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks like the other project assets listed there. In the Scratch Disc location, I prefer to browse to and set for a special path rather than leave "Same As Project".
Here I left "Same As Project" for all, but made sure of where the project was being saved by checking the new project dialog Save In field. The arrow in the screenshot points to where you will see how much free hard drive space is
at the location to which the Scratch Disk is directed. How much do you have listed for all? Here I have all directed to an external hard drive that has the drive letter E and has 922.4 GB free hard drive space.
Your settings of the project and Scratch Disks should hold from project to project, but no guarantees, so best to check to see what have within a project and from project to project, especially when you are using Save As Project instead of a specific path.
Suggestion, if Local Disc C, browse to
    Libraries
    Documents
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    11.0
the set should look something like C:\User...\Adobe\Premiere Elements\11.0
you should not be seeing "Auto-Save"....Adobe Premiere Elements AutoSave Folder is in the 11.0 Folder. In this scenario you want the all the Scratch Disk pointed to the 11.0 Folder not the AutoSave folder within this 11.0 folder. Think about that one including what you are setting in the Premiere Elements 11 preferences and the location being designated in Documents. Also, check out what is going on in the Encoding Folder in that line up of Folders in the 11.0 Folder in the Documents area.
Reminder...about Media Cache Folder....the Media Cache Folder in Documents (Adobe Folder/Premiere Elements/11.0) has the conformed audio files.
For Edit Menu/Preferences/Media, just hit the Clean button there to clear out the conformed video files. Note that the path to what you are deleting is shown in Edit Menu/Preferences/Media
    C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common
In the Common Folder there is this other Media Cache folder with the conformed video files (.mcdb).
For video properties, you can always get a readout from a program like MediaInfo
    http://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo
but for now you can right click the file in Project Assets and let us know the frame size and other properties information for what is in this project.
Lots of details but the focus here is
In view of the low memory messages...
    a. assure that computer resources are not being eaten up by pile ups of Scratch Files
    b. assure that your project's format's computer resource demands are not exceeding your computer
    resources.
Please review. If necessary, I will fine tune what I have written.
    Thanks.

  • Issues when burning a DVD

I am unable to access my Computer info, and Software Versions right now, So I am just looking for a little Direction.
I exported a .mov from FCPX with Chapter info and used iDVD to make a DVD. The DVD was ejected, the iDVD window said it was done, but that I also had 1 minute left or something... Instead of the "Burn another" or "Done" options I Just had "Cancel". When I hit this it asked if I was sure I wanted to cancel, but I had no other option. It loaded up in the DVD Player but when I selected a chapter or hit skip the DVD player went crazy and the DVD Froze. I then lowered the write speed and tried it again. Everything went the same.
My last attempt was creating a disk image, then used Disk Utility to burn it to DVD. When I did this I got an error: "The burn failed because of a medium write error."
Would love to be pointed in the right direction. Could the .mov file cause this or does it sound like a Drive issue?
Any help would be appreciated. Sorry again about the lack of info.

Maybe Bengt Wärleby's post in this topic will help: Re: mes chapitrages bug
Don't worry.  The OP posted in French but there's translations included.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
