Internal isight problems

Hello,
I just purchased a macbook for school this September, and isight just started throwing up all over everything (figuratively). It was working fine, now it intermediately displays a black screen in photo booth, ichat and imovie. I tried restarting and experienced the same problem, (the green light is on). It is working at the moment, but sometimes I'll only have Safari open and the green light will activate (it's making me a bit paranoid...)
Any thoughts?

Dear gsallomi, 2 years ago with my new macbook, I had the same problem. It started when I run a game in bundle with the new mac "Big Band Board Games" for play on the web. From then on, at start up of my mac the iSight light was on. I solved opening the games, there preference and disabilited iSight. The same i did in iChat (that don't use) and other software I don't use but maybe authomatically open iSight.
Another suggestion is to go in system preferences/ account/ login elements and deleting process using iSight or web (notice that to delete it you have to click on it and click on - at bottom, not only sign it that only not show the process)
I hope some other more expert than me can help you. As this forum is helping me very much, I try to be gratefull to you.

  • Internal iSight camera on, but LED is off... Hardware problem?

    Hello all,
My MacBook Pro (15", late 2007) has developed a strange "feature": the internal iSight LED no longer lights, even with the camera on. This is quite unsettling.
I have searched the Intertubes, but could not find any references to this kind of problem.
My MBP is covered under AppleCare, but I'm reluctant to send it in for repairs (again!), since that takes at least 2 weeks. Frankly, I can't do without my Mac for 2 weeks since I use it professionally.
Is the LED "hardwired" to iSight power, i.e. is this a definite hardware problem, or is there some hidden setting somewhere? I have tried zapping the PRAM, but that did not help...
    Any info would be appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    Ed.

Can you or anyone else confirm that the LED is a "hardware" feature on the iSight, or is it software-controlled?
Of course, the camera still appears to work without the LED. But that is exactly the point There is no proper feedback on camera status now, which is unsettling. Bringing it back in is not (yet) an option; I already went without it for more than a month during the first 18 months of ownership due to 2 earlier repairs.

  • Recording from Internal ISight interupted during IMovie Playback

I record and edit a daily blog (5-6 minutes long) on IMovie 7.1.1 from my internal ISight which i eventually share/post on YouTube. I have over 100 blog postings and all the recordings has always worked well. My last 5 recordings (all at different times)have come out choppy. The audio and video get interrupted numerous times (usually between 5-15 seconds apart) as if there is a sudden break/jump in recording. The recording location and techniques are the same as they always were. It has nothing to do with the editing -- this is the actual raw footage from the ISIght recording. I do this for my business, and it really is an issue if my ISight/IMovie has a problem. Please someone advise

Taking Pictures are not a problem. S Photo Booth works. In fact, IMovie records. The problem is the slight interruption every 5-15 seconds in the recording

  • Has External FW ISight killed my internal ISight?

    I have a 2.16ghz MacbookPro, 2gb ram, OS10.6.3.
I have been using the built in iSight regularly since i got the laptop four years ago....never a problem.
Recently i attached my old external Firewire iSight to try some stopframe animation software. Everything worked fine, the camera worked in various applications, again with no problems.
I have now tried to use the built in iSight but the laptop is not seeing it. (The external has been removed).
I have tried all the suggestions mentioned on the forum - reset SMC/PMU, repair permission, new account, safe boot. It is not being recognised by system profiler, and no application is seeing the camera. iChat, Skype, PhotoBooth all say no camera is connected.
    Anything else i could try?
Has anyone else heard of a built in iSight being killed by its older external sibling?
    thanks
    Adam

    Hi Adam,
I have the Macbook Pro before yours (2ghz with the RAM maxed out and the larger drive that was available).
I do not have an External iSight though to test if there are any issues.
    It does seem strange though.
The Internal iSight is USB and has a .kext of it's own to run that.
The External iSight has it's own .kext file to run it.
Sometimes on Firewire devices the ports need to be reset. (Power Down the computer and on Laptops remove any external Power Supply and then wait 15 mins for internal capacitors to discharge.)
There is not a similar way for the USB Ports.
IF resetting the SMC/PMU does not show the camera in System Profiler then the best thing is probably the Engineer route.
I can see the value in EZ Jim's suggestions of trying a reinstall first.
However you could try Pacifist to Reinstall just the bits that might be effected and then run the COMBO Update.
This is the Instructions for Reinstalling iChat (I Am NOT suggesting you do this)
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1486891
The broad outline of the Hard Way as it is called can be transposed to other items.
In the second Pic in the Instructions it shows Pacifist's view of the files as they are laid out on the Hard Drive (Contents of Essentials being equal to the Hard Drive Level).
Extensions (where .kext files are) is normally between "DTDs" and "Filesystems"
although you may have to use the Find option to see any further.
You need to run the COMBO version of the Update that you are up to to make sure any files is updated from the Install Disk Level to the current OS level.
    10.6.3 is here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1017
(If both computers are up to the Same OS level you could find the file on one and try it on the other, particularly if both iSights work there (if the Mac Pro has an iSight in any screen it has) ).
Time Machine may be an option to grab a working .kext file (the most likely is IOVideoFamily.kext )
Your MacBook Pro has limited USB ports and although the External iSight may well go for some time yet and New External USB cameras are not that expensive you may want to consider finding out the cost or "Servicing" the External and about investigating the issue with the internal so that you have options covered (Depending what other USB devices you have plugged in)
    Just some ideas.
Essentially I favour EZ Jim's Repair and or reinstall before taking it to an Engineer as they may want that done anyway to make sure the "system" is as as "good" as it can be.
I would probably try the Pacifist way first as it would ave time over an Whole Archive and Install method

  • Internal iSight not working in iMovie HD

Internal iSight works in Photobooth but not iMovie HD. I move the toggle over to the recorder icon and no drop down menu appears and "no camera attached" is displayed across the blue screen.
I have read a number of posts here and suggestions. So far:
-Repairing disk permissions has not helped
-iSight shows up on the USB tree in System Profiler
-I have added other user accounts and the problem occurs there too
    -I have reset the SMC
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, BostonG5
Here are the next things you should try.
    (1) Check your iMovie HD version. As explained in Using iSight with iMovie, iMovie HD 6 or later is needed with built-in iSight.
    (2) If you are using iMovie HD 6, verify that you have tried every relevant suggestions from Apple's How to Troubleshoot iSight.
    (3) Verify that you are clicking in the right place. The drop-down menu does not appear until you click on the small triangle in front of the camera iCon as shown in this picture:
    (4) If iMovie is the ONLY app that is having this iSight problem, your iMovie preferences file may be corrupted. Quit all applications. Then throw away the iMovie Preferences file (com.apple.iMovie.plist) from your Home (user) / Library / Preferences folder.
A new preferences folder will be generated when you restart iMovie to test whether it works now, but you will need to reset any preference settings you want different from the default values.

    Hi,
There is a solved thread on this page about this error. The solution is to replace the battery because its storage capacity is low. The right part number can be found in a maintenance and service guide. Go to Support and Drivers page, enter your model and look in User Guides section.

  • ISight problem, time for repair?

iSight suddenly stopped working. No green light. Won't work in iChat, Gmail, or Photo Booth. Message "No camera connected to this computer". I followed the advice given here. Restarted. I checked Utilities >> System Profiler >> USB and saw iSight listed (though it said "not configured yet"). I reset the PRAM, went back to System Profiler and now iSight doesn't show up at all.
Does that pretty much exhaust my efforts? Time to bring it in?
    Many thanks in advance,
    rob

You've tried some good things, Rob. You may be right that it is time for service.
For any iSight problems, first try restarting the Mac. If the problems persist, try all relevant suggestions from:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
If your iSight problem still occurs in more than one app and more than one user account, the reset suggested there (PMU/SMC for your MacBook) often restores proper function of inbuilt iSight.
However, if your built-in iSight still does not work after carefully following all the suggestions in the "How to Troubleshoot iSight" article, and if iSight does not show as a USB hardware device in your Mac's System Profiler utility, yours is most likely a hardware problem. In that case, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
BTW - I note that your posted system info shows Mac OS X (10.4.7). If that is correct, unless you have compelling reasons for not doing so, I suggest you backup your Mac and apply the 10.4.11 Combo Update:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/DL172
For more info on how to install and benefits of updating, see http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901
I recommend you use your Mac's Disk Utility to *repair permissions* immediately before *_and again_* immediately after the update. After repairing permissions, use your Mac's  > Software Update... menu command to apply any additional needed Apple software updates.

  • USB camera substitutes for internal isight web cam

I am exploring the possibility of using one of two usb sources as external chat cams for ichat/AV (as opposed to internal isight, which I find inflexible on my desktop imac).
I have connected both sources, but neither are found as external cam options when I open up ichat.
My two options are (1) canon powershot A85 digital camera (2) macally icecam (which worked fine on an older G3 powerpc imac).
I am wondering who has successfully used powershot A85 or icecam as a webcam instead of isight in 10.5 environs, how you got them to function, what circumstances have you tried that did not work, and any retrospective insight as to why one or both worked.
I'm just beginning the learning curve for leopard. I have used macs for awhile now, but I am hoping to maximize my knowledge towards incorporating some purchases that are less than 5 years old in order to reduce waste and reduce personal expenditure.
Thanks in advance for both good and gloomy information regarding this matter.
    Best to All!

Your exploration will not go far since the iMac's FireWire ports will not work with your cam.
(you'll need an extra hub in between, then it will work)
USB 2.0 is very fast, a USB webcam that is UVC compatible will work, almost as good as your built in.

  • Internal iSight- does it have a microphone?

Hey i was wondering if the internal iSight has a microphone or if the iMac intel has a microphone. Thanks.

YES! The microphone is included near the built in iSight.

  • How Disable Mac Internal iSight Camera?

I have looked through previous postings on how to turn off the MBA internal iSight camera and the instructions are not working for me.
    I moved:
              System/Library/QuickTime/QuickTimeUSBVDCDigitizer.component
    into a new folder:
System/Library/QuickTime Turn Off iSight Camera .
    Then I rebooted.
When I go into Skype > Preferences > Audio/Video I can still see my face and the green light.
    Next steps?

Move (you will actually be making a copy) the QuickTimeUSBVDCDIgitizer.component file from your /System/Library/QuickTime folder to your UserName (Home)/Documents folder.
Then throw the QuickTimeUSBVDCDIgitizer.component file from your/System/Library/QuickTime folder in the Trash and empty it.  You will need to authenticate with your system administrator password.
Restart your Mac.  Internal iSight (and amy other USB cam) should no longer work.
If the above does not work, see an Apple-certified technician and ask him to remove your iSight.

  • Can you override internal iSight with external iSight?

I have upgraded to a MBP with the built in iSight and still have the old iSight from my iBook. I wonder if anyone has been able to override the internal iSight to use the external cam. I think it's great that it's built in, but there are times when I don't want to have to pivot the entire laptop just to display something in the room (i.e. what the dogs are doing on the floor etc.)

Sorry, I'm only familiar with this as far as cam chat

Hi, chat is what I want to do - I have a logitech cam which works fine with the ibook but I can't find a way to overide the MBP's internal isight. Even when I try the imovie tip suggested the camera doesn't get recognised in system profiler although there's power to it.
    Any ideas?
