Internet connection only works in 1 place??

I recently brought a ibook G3 laptop off my neighbour. I live in Sydney, Australia and we are connected to the internet via broadband, not cable or wirless or dial up. My problem starts here, the ibook will connect to the
internet (we use an ADSL) using his lead but it will not log on anywhere else. The router has a light on it that should light up when it is plugged in to the laptop to show that it has a connection but this light does not come on but does with my other laptop, not an Apple. I have taken it to other homes and it wont log on there either,
using the same service, but different service providers I am sure. The error just says that there is no connection to the internet. I have taken it too 2 different computer tech's and they both said they didn't know why, didn't appear to be any problem with settings etc , so take it back. Of course the neighbor doesn't want it back, I actually love it except for this problem. My neighbor thinks I am mad since it works perfectly for him but it wont work anywhere else, I am starting to wonder if
he has put a lock or something on there??? Has anyone ever heard of this sort of problem if so I would love to hear about it and how to fix it. Please dont be too technical when responding, I know next to nothing about computers!

Good news Jackie. This means that your mac has "communicated" with your router successfully. Click apply in System Preferences > Network for the setup to be stored.
Can you now connect to the internet? If no, then your router needs to be set-up to connect to the service provided by your isp. This is usually done via your browser just by entering the router's ip address at the address bar. For example, if your router's ip address is 192.168.0.1, by entering it in Safari's (or any other browser's for that matter) address bar and hitting return, you should be presented with a user id and password screen. To access your router you must input the user id and password as per router's manual (do not worry if it is windows-centric as it is only a difference in layout). Once you're logged into your router it is a matter of navigating through its various sections and setting it up as per your isp's instructions. Hi,
I have a strange problem with my internet connection. When I connect to the Internet everything works fine until I open a second tab in my browser (have tried with IE, Firefox and Chrome all latest versions and latest flash player). After I open a second or more tabs my connection becomes really slow. It takes forever to open a website! The strange thing is that the speed sometimes is ok and then it becomes very slow just to work ok again? I think the speed is improved if I clean my computer using CCleaner and use the command Ipconfig/Flushdns (sometimes it works, sometimes not).
I use WiFi, but the problem also occurs If I connect directly to the router. I have a second computer (older) which works fine with WiFi so I do not think it is the router or the internet connection in general (have 24Mbit connection - downloading files goes very quickly, it is just loading webpages that is slow). I might also add that I have updated all drivers using the Lenovo solution centre....
One other thing which might be connected to this problem is that sometimes my internet connection is lost for a short while but recennects again by itself within a few seconds.
Any help would be appreciated.

Internet connection - only works wirelessly

I have a two pronged issue.
1) I have not been able to get on the internet via my cable modem (comcast), only through a wireless connection using my neighbor's access. I called Comcast's tech support and they said the cable connection and modem are just fine. What now?
2) When they asked me to bypass the router and connect straight to the modem, I did it. Now I'm trying to remove the cat 5 cable, but it is now stuck in the ethernet port. What should I do so I don't void my warranty?

1) could be a number of things. At worst, your ethernet port may be blown. At best, it may simply be configured improperly. There isn't enough information for any kind of diagnosis.
2) This is a common issue. The plastic finger on your cable's connector is weak, and is bending outside the socket and not at the hinge joint, so the locking tab is not disengaging. First, try pushing the cable in firmly before pressing on the finger -- this will reduce friction on the locking tab, possibly enough to let it slide inwards and release. If this doesn't work, find a non-metallic tool of the proper size (a long toothpick or wooden swizzle is fine as long as it will take some leverage without snapping) and slide it into the socket outside the finger. Use the toothpick to press the finger inwards and try to get pressure on that part of the finger inside the socket. A strong nylon "spudger" tool or "twiddle stick" is ideal for this task if you have one.

Airport is always connected yet internet is only working sporadically

I need help! I'm calling upon all MacLovers, Macinado's and Jedi MACsters!
So the stupid airport is connected yet the internet is only working when it wants to. I know right! ahhh! It's working then it's not then it's working bah stupid jerk. I have an iphone that is connecting just fine plus there's another mac user living here with me and they're having no problems. No problems! Just me! Why? WHY!!??
I used to be one of those pc people(you may have heard of them) but about 6 months ago my parents bought me a MacBook Pro and my whole life changed. cue tv smile. I have had no problems and i'm lovin' my MacBook Pro(though I just want to say my Mac sleeps on one side of the bed and I on the other).
Enter the pesky internet connectivity problem and just between you and me it's ruining my faith in Macintosh. It's like i don't even want to bad touch it anymore.
So what can I do? I have all updates and couldn't find anybody else with the same problem. Please help me restore my faith in Mac's oh noble JediMacsters, you're my only hope.

Only started happening in the last 2 weeks, the comp is only 6 months old. I don't disconnect, the internet completely stops working. Airport is still connected yet all the devices that use the internet stop working as if it's disconnected. Skype will suddenly struggle to reconnect. Firefox will say 'looking for website'. Gmail notifer will say there's no internet activity.
All this happens yet according to the airport it's on and working fine. The signal is full black bars when it's working and when it's not working. No change there. There is no pattern either. Sometimes it will stop working for a few minutes other times maybe 10 or 15 minutes. It stops working often and at random times.
I haven't had the opportunity to connect to other networks to se how it performs but considering my iphone and my friends Macbook is connecting without a hitch i'm guessing the problem is my Macbook Pro.

Why my wifi connection is unstable? I have an ipad 4 wi-fi and my net connection only works very close to my router!

My wifi connection only works well if i am really close to my router. My notebook connection runs great either close or far from the router! What can i do about that? Thank you!

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app
    •    Tap on Wi-Fi
    •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Hello all,
I am trying to get the following to work. We have an intranet page which users need to connect to, to operate some machines. This is done through an windows 8.1 Tablet with an assigned KIOSK mode app (Kios SP Browser).
This works great as the assigned app is the only thing the user can run and we don't have to really harden the device. One drawback in using the assigned apps is that it needs to be an New App (as Microsoft call it)
The app is installed on an reference machine which runs in workgroup mode (no domain connection is needed on the devices) and after the reference machine is installed it is imaged with the use of Acronis. After deployment the tablet has no connection to
internet and the intranet page is wireless put available to the tablets. As a side note, the tablet operates with local accounts and the app is installed using an corporate hotmail account we created just for this purpose.
I now deployed the image over 20 different tablet devices and this worked great until recently a few devices start to complain it needs to connect to the windows shop before the app can be started. As the devices don't have internet access this can't be
done and the tablet is rendered useless for the user.
How can i make the app available without internet connection ? and how can i be sure the app will continue to work over time without connection to the store ?

I can't unblock the internet connection as the wireless network doesn't have any internet connection what so ever. The main purpose is to be able to operate the machinery and nothing else, hence the kios app which is being used to show the intranet page
which connects than to the devices.
The problem is that after imaging the app works as expected but after a few days the app stops to work ...
I found the following website over site loading an app without the needed appx files. It shows an way to capture the files during installation from the windows store.

It is a bit strange to have it this difficult to install apps without the needed store and i think that Microsoft should make this easier. I hope this works better and after a few days i will give the feedback how this handles..

iPhone has been set up to wirelessly sync when on charge yet I get this error when the iPhone is not even charging!
I work for a mobile network operator and although this isn't something we support anyway, we would usually stumble across something like this when customers call us for advice prior to contacting the manufacturer for support, yet this hasn't been a call driver so I'd imagine this is isolated... (either that or not many people have updated their device and set up the wireless sync lol)...

Okay. We'll try a different utility.
(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:

Try completely removing any authorization using ctrl-shift-D to ADE (cmd-shift-D if on Mac).
Restart ADE, and then reauthorize with your Adobe ID.

My internet connection is working, however, I cannot connect to itunes store, safari or updates on my MacBook when connected to my home wi fi. I can do so if I connect to another wi fi account, e.g. at work. Also I can connect to safari and itunes store using my home wi fi if I use my ipad or iphone. I have tried to re-authorize the Mac Book in case that is the issue but I cannot beacuse safari and itunes store not working. My internet provider say they do not know what the problem is.

I lost all my music too. What I don't get is that when my iphone is connected to Itunes, the music appears there (i even can play it), but the device doesn´t have it. I try to sync it but it doesn't work. What can I do?

I went into Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data Network.and changed my APN in the 'Cellular Data' section from idata.o2.co.uk to wap.o2.co.uk.
wap.02.co.uk will not work for you, that is my provider's setting. I would contact Telcel and see what your APN settings should be, but I get the impression having read through many conversations now that the upgrade to iOS5 sometimes changes these settings.
I left the 'Visual Voicemail' and the 'MMS' settings the same and everything seems to be working ok...
Oh - and I did lose my music after. I've managed to restore my purchased by going to the iTunes store on my phone and dowloading them all again.

All of a sudden my internet connection stopped working. It works for every other computer in the house. I have gone to other networks. I have turned on/off my computer. Nothing seems to work. When I click diagnosis connection it is not fixed. Please HELP! It always tells me that I am not connected to the internet yet I have full bars at the top.

Have you also tried restarting the router?
If that doesn't work, try creating a new "Location":
System Preferences > Network
Select the AirPort from the left hand side
Click on the Locations combo box and select Edit Locations...
Click on + to add a new location, call it "Home" (or anything else you prefer)
Click on Advanced
Select the AirPort tab and enter your network name
Select TCP/IP tab.
Configure IPv4 Using DHCP
Now click on Renew DHCP Lease. After a few seconds you should get an IP address (probably 192.168.x.x)
Click on Proxies tab.
Select Auto Proxy Discovery and Use Passive FTP
Click on OK and Apply, etc.
