Invalid Password when trying to connect wirelessly

Hey all,
For some reason my wife's laptop has decided to not recognize my wireless password. I have tried changing the router's security from WEP to WPA and back. Different passes, everything.
Network Setup Assistant sees the network but gives "The password you entered is invalid". Her new MacBook sees and logs in fine. I have been extremely careful in putting in the password and have tried both my password (13 characters) and long 26 hex.
The only thing out of the ordinary is I recently upgraded my DLink (DIR-615) firmware. I can't imagine why that would cause these problems though.
I am completely stumped. Any thoughts?
Thanks

Well it is definitely the router. I went to Panera Bread and got on without a problem.
I checked D-Link's troubleshooting site and that wasn't much help. I am using Hardware Version B2 FW 2.25. The closest was:
"To use encryption with the 2 products, you must use a HEX key instead of using a passphrase. To enter a HEX key on the Apple product, enter a dollar sign ($) before the key. For example:
For 64-bit encryption, enter $1234567890."
But the thing is I am trying to connect with security turned OFF!
So if this is a firmware problem without solution I was wondering if it might be possible to set up my old Netgear MR314 in conjunction with the D-Link. Is this possible or too problematic?
Thanks for the help.

  • "INVALID  PASSWORD" when trying to connect to Linksys Wireless Router

MacBook would connect to neighbors unsecured network, as well as network at local restaurant, but would not connect to my WPA Personal protected network.
Here is what I finally did to gain access:
1-Obtained the mac address for all 3 wireless computers.
2-Accessed the router, then went to the wireless tab>wireless mac filter.
3-Enabled mac address filtering, then entered the mac addresses of the three computers.
4-Selected the option to only allow these mac addresses to access the router.
5-Turn off the wireless security. 6-change the wireless security setting on each computer to none. Even with broadcast ssid disabled, all were able to detect and connect to the router.
As I think I understand it....to access my router, you'd have to know the hidden (ssid broadcast disabled) network name, but since I am allowing access only to the mac addresses listed, you can't access my network....so this should be pretty secure.
I'm a network (and Mac) novice, so if I'm wrong, please correct me (nicely).

Found my problem....When connecting to your network, and you're asked for your password (WPA in my case), make sure you enter your WPA Shared Key, and not your Router password. I think I win the dumb mistake of the year award.

  • Invalid password when trying to connect to wireless internet

I have just bought a 20 inch iMac and am having troubling connecting to the wireless internet in this house. My mac address has been added to the administrators network and she has given me the password but it comes back invalid. I am putting it in in lower case, exactly as it is written. I have gone thru network diagnostics etc. but still does not work. I went into Airport Utility but it couldn't find anything and asked me to rescan.
Is there anyone out there that had a similar problem, or can anyone help. At the moment I am using the internet via their ethernet cable in someone else's room, but would like to use wireless in my own room.

If you are entering the correct password, then I can only assume that your MAC is incorrect in the router.
Your Mac has two MAC addresses - one for Ethernet and a different one for WiFI. Be sure that your WiFI MAC is the one added to the router for WiFi

Error:  Invalid Password when trying to sign in on any wireless devise
I even reinstalled my WRT110 to be sure of the Network Name and Password but I still get this error.  I have never been able to log in to the wireless network.  I can see it - Ienter my password and still "Invalid Password"

I don't understand this: Connect directly to the router.  Is this the http://192.168.1.1?
I  HAVE changed the network name, I HAVE changed the password.
    I still get invalid password!!!
I am extremely frustrated by all this.  I need simple instructions.  I followed them when I set the friggin thing up, I reinstalled.  I know what my friggin password is - why why why?

  • Since last update (today) I get invalid password when trying to use back to my MAC, password works everywhere else

since last update (today) I get invalid Apple ID password when trying to use back to my MAC in Icloud app on my MAC, password works on all my other devices. GLITCH ?

Try going to the Apple ID page on your web browser
    http://www.apple.com/support/appleid/
and try to either retrieve or reset your password
(obviously you had to be able to successfully log in to be able to post here)
I was finally able to log in through my system preferences after about three or four hours. I ran a disk utility to repair permissions and restarted and it seemed to work ok.

  • Reset the password when trying to connect to my wi fi? The password keeps saying its incorrect when I know its not, all my other wireless devices connect no problem and this has been ongoing for months now and im getting a little pi**ed off now

when i try to connect my ipod touch to my wireless network, its keeps saying the password is incorrect-this has been ongoing for several months now even though it used to connect when I first bought the ipod-is there anyway to reset the password?

All devices should automatically reestablish a connection after power cycling the router.
Also try resetting your iPod.  Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try:
    Apple - Support - iPod touch - Wi-Fi

I have since reinstalled the 11gR2 database after noticing that I was missing some library paths (/lib and /usr/lib) in my LD_LIBRARY_PATH env var.
The database that I reinstalled at this point seems to be working fine but all the clients on the other VIPs are installed with those same paths missing from the LD_LIBRARY_PATH. We are in the process of updating the paths on those boxes and then will try reinstalling the clients with the hopes that this will help.

  • Why does my time capsule not recognize the password when trying to connect Apple TV, iPhone 4s or Canon printer

I have tried to set up my wireless as before but the Time Capsule only recognizes my Macbook.  I have used the correct password but nothing is happening except an error message.  This should have been simple so what is the glitch.

Not sure.. but I strongly recommend you start over.
Use all names that comply with new Apple standard protocol .. ie SMB.. which means the names recommended in the airport utility are WRONG.. do not use them.
That is especially important for the printer.
SHORT.. names should be 10characters or less.. if you can manage it.. 20 at most.
    NO SPACES..
PURE ALPHANUMERIC... no apostrophe, no other illegal characters.
So call the TC .. TCgenx (x I replace with the actual generation of the product).
    Wireless name.. TCwifi
Use only wireless passwords that also comply.. only a bit longer is ok.. 10-20 characters is usually plenty.. no spaces.. pure alphanumeric.
    No luck.. do some more.
Set wireless names for the two bands to different values.. eg.. TC24ghz and TC5ghz
    Leave off the security..
    Test 2.4ghz band at channels 11, 6, 1
Once it works put the security back on.

  • Fatal Error when trying to connect wireless J6480

Everything was working fine until yesterday AM.  Windows did an automatic update the night before and then I couldn't print wirelessly.  Per this website my driver was missing???  So I downloaded new driver, downloaded new install software.  Did several uninstall and reinstalls. Install kept freezing at 94%.  Found the below link with a solution:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01444835&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=2093&rul...
Did everything exactly in the link and still got the following at 94% of Step 3 in the install.
    Fatal Error during installation
Service "HP Network Services Support" (HPSLPSUC) could not be stopped.  Verify you have sufficient privliges to stop sysem services
Please go to HTTP/www.hp/support for trouble shooting information about "Fatal Error" and "MSI.netdevicemanager01"
I am running VISTA 32 bit.  The J6480 is connected to my network (verified via the network and sharing center map).  I ran the "wireless network test report" in the printer set up menu (all is OK).  Help... spent 3 hours on the yesterday and another 1.5 this AM.

    HI,
    First uninstall the software.
Then reinstall the sofware by right-clicking clicking on the software installer package and selecting  run as Adminstrator. Provid your admin password if it is requested. Installing with elevated priveleges should take care of the issue.
    regards,
    Erico

If you had already tried the settings i posted ... in such case you can do one thing .... access router setup page ... under Security ... uncheck block wan request ... click save settings .... Under Applications & Gaming tab ... click port range forwarding .... forward ports 88 & 3074 for the static Ip of the X-BOX ... click save settings . Click save settings ... check X-BOX live test ... if still shows the same error ... upgrade/reflash the firmware ...
