Inverted Caps Lock Function

Got an annoying matter for you:
Two month ago my MBP ('11) started this akward behaviour:
The Caps-Lock key is inverted, it works, but just the other way around, lit evokes lower case letters, not lit makes me type in capital letters.
Already tried a PRAM reset, no improvement.
Is there anyone out there having this issue? Or someone who knows how to solve it?

This kind of behavior sometimes happens when using VMWare.
You have already tried Reset PRAM.
Reset SMC. Give it try. Nothing to lose.

HT1192 caps lock function does not work after latest update

Hi there,
I have a Macbook 13" Early 2011 and recently after updating my operating system to Mac OS X 10.7.4, i have found that the caps lock button isn't functioning.
At present if i hold or press the button, it is failing to light up or function at all.
Is there a fix for this issue, as i have read that there was an update by Apple to stop accidental pressing of this key, however not being able to access its function at all seems to be unusual.
Your thoughts and opinions would be much appreciated,

My Macbook Pro Early 2011 15" (base model) did this to me last night.
I did a PRAM Reset, the generic "Cure All Procedure" for Macs. It worked after, but I noticed that the button had to be pressed at just the right angle and with enough pressure. The light would come on and off and Caps Lock functions properly. Continued as normal.
I put the computer to sleep by simply closing the lid, and then put myself to sleep as well.
This morning, just before I came on here, my computer would NOT wake from sleep (a whole other issue). Would not wake up by pressing the power button. So I had to do a hard reset, hold the power button down, and press it again after...grrr I never feel good being forced to do this.
Anyways long story a little bit shorter, I restarted my computer and low-and-behold the Cap Lock is not working again. No Bueno, Cupertino.
No, sorry, no liquid damage on the keys, and I don't have kids, nor share my computer with anyone but myself.
Its one of the few things that bug me about this computer. The other is the issue of the computer not being able to wake from sleep. Too often.

Is there a cap lock function on the i-pod touch? I don't see a way to do it.

Hello mdgm,
First ensure that Caps Lock is enabled by going to *Settings > General > Keyboard > Enable Caps Lock*.
When this feature is enabled, you can then use Caps Lock by double-tapping the Shift key on the keyboard.

Apple AL Bluetooth Keyboard - Tab, Caps Lock, Function and Control keys just stopped working

Hi All -
All of a sudden I get on my baby, 27" iMac OSX 10.6 and the some keys on the bluetooth keyboard do not work. Specifially the Tab, Caps Lock, Function and Control keys. I'm fine with the caps lock gone (why is it there?) but the others are useful.
I've searched all over for a solution but I haven't found one. Tried to upgrade the firmware which is fine, reset the PRAM done, checked the speech per apple support nadda.
Please help.

Go to System preferances > Universal Access > Mouse or Mousie and trackpad > and turn your Mouse keys off.
Then disconnect and reconnect your keyboard.
Note that you don't open your mouse under hardware in System Preferances, this is for a whole different group of settings

JSP/Struts - Detect Caps Lock

I have an application in struts on a tomcat server and i'm looking to add some caps lock functionality to my login form.
I'd like for my page to display a warning - WARNING: You have caps lock on, on the login page every time the user hits it, similar to the caps lock warning in any windows login.
So its something like:
login.jsp
WARNING: CAPS LOCK ON
UserName: _________
Password: __________
Any suggestions on how to go about this?
I found a couple of solutions on google:
1) Use javascript. The problem with this is that all solutions have:
<input type="text" onclick=checkcapslock()>
so the check is only made when the user types something in, and the only way to alert the user is through a javascript popup, which is user unfriendly, as opposed to writing to the document
2) java based solutions. These seem the best way to do it, but i would have to have a constant thread running which will constantly check for the key press. Ideally i dont want an extra thread in addition to the tomcat thats already running. How can i integrate this with the tomcat server?

You can't from the server side, you could only do this from the client side. This "checkcapslock()" Javascript thing... that would be one way, you could call it anywhere, presuming you can actually tell that caps-lock is on with Javascript, and I am not sure there is a way.
The only other way might be if you used an applet that maybe could check. Otherwise, I would generally not worry about it.

[SOLVED] KDE: Remap Caps Lock

Hi,
I've mapped the Caps Lock key as keyboard layout switch; it works, but somehow I can't disable the Caps Lock function (I've got English in all caps, unless I lower them with Shift-Caps Lock). I suppose I should check some option in Keyboard Settings->Advanced->Caps Lock Key Behavior, but I can't find the right one.

Caps lock - where has it gone?

My iPod Touch has a Caps Lock function - if I double tap the Shift key it turns blue to indicate Caps Lock
My iPhone 3G doesn't do this. Not a great worry, just a bit intrigued as to where the function has gone. It's mentioned in manuals etc, just not available on my phone

Can I have my HDX18 Notebook w Vista SP1 make a sound when I press the caps lock key?

I was able to do this with an older HP laptop running Windows XP. Cant find any info in "Help" or User manuals.

Hi, Warren - There used to be several small apps that let you remap the Caps Lock and other keys by assigning their functions to other keys that you may not use very often. There is a freeware app at the moment called DoubleCommand, for example, which allows you to assign the backslash key (\) to function as forward delete, instead of pushing fn + Delete. I don't know if any Tiger apps are able to reassign Caps Lock, but what I was mentioning above is that if you wanted, you could assign the Caps Lock function to the Control, Option or Command keys through the Keyboard pane in System Preferences. (I didn't mean that as a suggestion, though. I just meant to say that it was possible.)

Caps Lock & Keyboard error - Satellite L50-A-1F2

Hi, everybody!
Can anyone help me solving these problems with caps lock key?
*1st problem:*
In my Toshiba Satellite L50-A-1F2 the led on the caps lock key is always on.
*2nd problem:*
I have made some test using MS Word:
when caps lock is not active, I can write without problems.
when caps lock is active, I have problems with some keys (all in the same "column"): 3, D, E, C.
When I press:
3: I get the symbol "-"
D: the cursor moves to the line below
E: I get the or the TM symbols; sometimes it activates Intel Graphic Panel
C: the cursor moves to the begin of the first line.

Usually the CAPS LOCK button function could be enabled and disabled pressing the same button once again.
If this isnt possible, Im afraid this could be a hardware problem.
But new Toshiba notebooks support special feature called special function key mode.
This mode allows you to use the FN keys without pressing the additional FN button.
I dont know if this mode could affect the CAPS LOCK functionality but its definitely worth a check.
However, I would recommend you to connect external keyboard and to check if the same CAPS LOCK problems would appear. In case the external USB keyboard would work properly, the CAPS LOCK issue is related to internal keyboard malfunction.

Caps Lock Problem.... suddenly works reverse of expected

I have had my PB for four months and use it constantly. I just had a strange thing happen, suddenly the machine types in ALL CAPS by default. When I turn on the Caps Lock button (and the light goes on as expected) then the keyboard types lower case.
All is fine, except the Caps Lock functionality seems to be reversed. Light ON=Lower Case... Light OFF=UPPER CASE.
I have already repaired permissions.... I do not have any third party modifications or applications that modify the OS.
Pluggin in an external keyboard operates as expected, but the built in keyboard still misbehaves.
Any thoughts?

I just had this exact problem occur to me a few days ago. My cap locks key reversed itself somehow. In other words, when it was engaged I got lowercase; when it was not, I got uppercase. In addition, some keys, like the apostrophe and quote key did other things.
This issue occurred after I ran disk utility and mac janitor in the morning, which I do every Friday am. I decided to re-run both programs later in the day and the issue dissappeared.
I was already running 10.4.6, so I don't think it has to do with the OS. Hope that helps somebody.

Caps lock won't work!

Does anyone experience the same?
My caps-lock function does not work.
It is correctly enabled in Settings. Everytime I double-click the Shift button, the key becomes blue-filled but still after the first letter it goes back to white (and no more capital letter).
I have to manually hold down the shift button for all the time I need it.
This as been the same also before the iOs update.
Any idea or advice?

Have you tried a hard reset as Jonathan suggested: hold both the sleep/power and home buttons until the logo appears and the system resets?
This sounds like a unit problem and not iOS 4.2 problem since you said it existed prior to the iOS update. If it persists after hard reset, it would be good to take the iPad to an Apple Retail store and have the genius bar staff check it out.

Caps Lock & Parallels out of sync

My Caps Lock button on my apple keyboard (I have the white flat keyboard) isn't working correctly.
When I'm in Parallels (Windows) and the caps lock is off, all keystrokes are capitalized and when the caps lock is on, all keystrokes are lower case.
For whatever reason, the caps lock feature is backwards. Does anyone know how to reset the Caps Lock function on my apple keyboard so I don't have to be messing with it all the time. Any help would be much appreciated.

It's better to recapture and get the capture settings right to get the audio to be in sync in the first place.
What does your camera's on screen display say about the audio recording? If it's 12 bit you need to change the capture presets. If it's 16 bit, try capturing shorter clips...
Post more about your setup. What are you using for a scratch disk? and how is it formatted? That too could be part of the problem. Needs to be something other than your startup disk.
Also post the exact versions of FCP, QuickTime, and OS you're running.

200n Keyboard - Caps Lock inverted = no numbers + all files highlighted

Factory o/s Vista Home + recovery CD
Faults occurred sometime after installing wireless printer. Computer left unattended. Son heard lots of beeping.
Caps lock worked but text was inverted which also resulted in no numbers. Selecting a file from a list resulted in all files above being selected.
Many things tried, restored to previous point, keyboard checked with MS diagnostic tool OK. Eventually keyboard stopped working (same with external USB keyboard) and it was impossible to restore using Recovery disc.
Paid to have system restored to Factory settings.
Memory and HDD checked and refitted. On final update, no 20 of 27 - bleeping and small Filter Key window appeared and kept on appearing 10/20 times during updating. Still both problems occurred.
Purchased new HDD and Win 7 upgrade
Installed XP pro sp2, could not type numbers in product key
Clean installed Win 7, Caps lock inverted and no numbers with Keyboard, USB keyboard and On-line keyboard. Again all files highlighted.
System Trouble Shooting – No changes or updated necessary.
System Restore – Error 0xC0003005
In Safe Mode – removed Norton leaving MS net 4, MS Silverlight, NVDIA driver.
Wireless mouse works.
Filter Key window appears sometimes.
Action Center – Richo memory stick controller incompatible, no card reader driver.
Can access msconfig but not mskey or msreg

2009 Aluminum Keyboard caps lock light not functioning

Greetings:
I bought my wireless keyboard in February 2010 and it works but lately the caps lock light has not been coming on when I hit the caps lock key. I took it to a local Apple Specialist to try to figure out what is going on and it of course worked when he paired it to his machine.
I got it back home and re-paired it to my mini (2009 2.25 mhz intel) and it worked for the day... now it is not functioning again. I unpaired the keyboard and re-paired it again and the light functions again for the time being. But if it holds to pattern, tomorrow it will be non-functioning again.
I have the latest update for the keyboard installed and I am at Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on the system.
It appears that if the keyboard goes to sleep, this phenomenon happens. Any ideas?

I think that re-pairing the keyboard does essentially the same thing as restarting the machine would do with regards to resetting the keyboard. I did replace the batteries today just to see if that would help. -- so far, the light is working still and the keyboard has been asleep for a couple of hours since I replaced the batteries. They showed 81% when I replaced them this morning.
I would like to know if this is a common problem. The keyboard always works, just the caps lock light stops working which is annoying for me because I tend to hit it by accident and the light is a good way to see that I did, in fact, hit the key.
I am marking the question as answered, but hopefully someone has a real fix for it, or Apple has a new firmware update coming soon
