IOS 4.2.1 tethering gone.

Hi there, I have following issue:
Internet tethering options and internet tethering itself is gone on my iPhone 3G under iOS 4.2.1.
* iPhone is NOT Jailbroken, never, ever, was.
* iPhone is officially unlocked.
* My carrier officially supports tethering (in fact I PAY for it).
* It was there in iOS 4.1
* It was there in iPhone OS 3.x days
I remember Apple did the same in iOS 4.0 days.
Question - anyone have same syndroms? I allready know it's common but I wanted to ask on international boards.
Any Advice? Custom IPCC? Downgrade? JAILBREAK?

I'd like you to also send feedback to Apple about this issue, since it's big one IMHO - Apple DID advertise iPhone with tethering feature back in the day and now its SECOND TIME they "forget" to enable this option.

I am here in Germany with an offically unlocked iPhone 3G from t-mobile.
Nowadays I use a SIM Card from SIMYO, who offically allow tethering but woh do not have an offical carrier settings file (which *****, apple, it is so annoying to see these "call forwarding popups" but that is a different problem)
On 4.1 tethering was configurable and worked like a charm. With the update to 4.2.1 tethering is gone. Restoring did not help, with or without backup. Inserting my old t-mobile SIM card did not help either.
This is really nasty. I want it get fixed NOW!

iTunes Match was not working after I upgraded to iOS 6. It was solved by connecting the iPhone to the computer, backing up the iPhone, and then doing a restore to factory settings. After that everything is working fine.

IOS 7.1.x tethering keeps defaulting to off

I use tethering from my (non jailbroken) iPhone as my main internet connection for my macbook air (10.9.4).
It used to be great - just plug in via usb and play.
But since iOS 7.1, the tethering option has defaulted to 'off' - when you go into settings to change it, you see "Personal tethering (off)" in the settings home screen... when you tap on personal tethering to change the setting, it immediately switches itself on. It's just really annoying...
Looks like a bug, but does anyone know of a fix?
No changes since updating to 7.1.1 or 7.1.2 or with updates on mac side.

Start basic and try resetting your iPhone by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Try again to see if the problem persists.

Sounds like you have a battry issue but don't want to believe it.
If a car was running fine on one tank of gas, then you filled it up with another tank of gas and it began to run funny, one might suspect that tank of gas. But let's just say coincidence blew a valve-- would you think the new tank of gas was the culprit?
BUT WAIT!! It just might have been! The gas could have been of higher octane and put more more strain on the valves; you know, like going from 87 octane (OS6) to 93 octane (OS7) and showing you the engine was on the edge of compromise.
Sometimes you have to go with common sense. If everything else is ruled out, it must be the battery. And if it runs fine one moment in OS6 but immediately ***** in OS7, I'd believe my battery was suspect-- though comfy-- in OS6 but the OS7 showed its true power.
Moreover, if you had the answer-- or didn't want to believe someone's more competent advice-- why did you even call? You've already shown that you don't know much when you asked if you could go backwards after setting up the new OS as a new phone.
Additonally, if you're such the know-it-all, but yourself the $29 battery and put it in yourself. It's a piece of cake.

After iOS 8 upgrade keyboard shortcuts gone, just reboot

FYI,
apparently this also happened with the ios7 upgrade. Per the related ios7 thread, after a manual reboot of the phone, the shortcuts reappeared. The reboot solved my problem as my keyboard shortcut settings reappeared after reboot.

I lost all my keyboard shortcuts on my iPhone 5s after upgrading to iOS 8. They still showed up on my iPad Air (iOS 8) and iMac (10.9.5). There were, however, massive sync problems, sometimes they would only flow from one device to all the others, sometimes from one device to only one of the other two, sometimes not at all.
I deleted all my shortcuts and started from scratch, deleting “~/Library/Application Support/Ubiquity”, ~/Library/Dictionaries” and “~/Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~TextInput” from the iMac and KeyboardDomain from my iOS devices.
Rebooted everything a dozen times.
Toggled Documents & Data Sync off and on a dozen times too in all kinds of combination with rebooting and deleting the aforementioned files.
Everything always starts working and syncing fine for a very short while, but sooner or later one of my devices stops receiving new shortcuts as I re-add them.
I reboot that device and it catches up. I enter new shortcuts, and that device doesn’t get any new shortcuts. This time, a reboot doesn’t fix anything.
After using my devices for a while, I notice shortcuts are entirely gone from both the iPhone and iPad, but not from the iMac.
I even upgraded my iPhone 5s to a 6, and right off the bat it had issues with keyboard shortcut sync. I also setup my iPad as new, and same thing: right off the bat, sync issues with keyboard shortcuts.

IOS 5 / bluetooth and tethering

Since my upgrade to IOS 5 the wireless functions have become unstable
1) When I use blue tooth with my car, the phone just disconnects after about 30 minutes, then the phone will crash about 30 minutes later
2) When I turn on wifi hotspot tethering my computer can not discover the wifi network. If I update the password, the hotspot is then visible until I turn it on an off again.
I used both of these features daily under ios 4 and it worked fine.
This is an iphone 4 not a 4S

WiFi is the faster and stronger connection with more range and far less susceptibility to interference. I would go that route and forget about BT.

Thanks - the backup to iCloud had not been turned on but fortunately it was backed up to iTunes and we restored from there.

No. iOS will not be gone. If you erase and restore your device, iOS 7 is simply reinstalled. However, everything else will be erased. Be sure to make a backup first from which you can restore your stuff. Syncing to a new computer that does not have a copy of your old iTunes Library will cause only that content to be removed.

New iOS play all video is gone

Well. If they're not there, they're not there.
But I bet your music files are still there!
Look in here, do you see music files?
C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music
If so, just drag all those files from WIndows Explorer into the iTunes library window.
If your daughter had a lot of ratings, the ratings will be lost, but she'll have the music back.

Unresolved question: all bookmarks on Ipad iOS 6.1.2 are gone and new one cannot be created

Hi, I'll take my chances on this one. There are several posts on the forum addressing this issue. But for me none of them has helped.
By posting this question again, I am hopeful someone can help, I am desperate here:
The issue is bookmarks in Safari in iOs 6.1.2. (Actually, the problem was alreday there in 6.1.1) :
All bookmars are gone, and I am not able to create new bookmarks and/or bookmark folders.
I have now tried all tips I have found here in the support forum, to get my bookmarks back:
1. I have reset my iPad
2. I have deleted cockies and data (several times)
3. I have turned Safari on/off in iCloud sync settings on the iPad
4. I have tried to create new bookmarks and new bookmark folder, but noting gets saved
Now, what to do??

Try simply terminating and restarting Safari:
1. Press the Home button
2. Double click the Home button to bring up the "Recent Apps" tray.
3. Touch and hold on the Safari icon in the "Recent Apps" tray until a "-" appears.
4. Touch the "-" to terminate Safari.
5. Restart Safari and see if your Bookmarks are back.

Any idea how to get it back? The app icon is gone and when downloading other photo applications, (like instagram), the camera feature is just not there. I have already reset the phone with no change. Photos are still accessible.

The next step in user troubleshooting is a restore. You can try that next. Connect the iPhone to the computer and iTunes and select restore. You can restore first from a backup, but if that doesn't work, then restore as a new device and then you can resync all of your data.

3GS update to iOS 4.0 - Calendar events gone!

Update and sync seemed to go well until I went to check my schedule. All my calendar entries were gone. The weird thing is I have a clock (simply called "Analog") which is very nice and simple, and you can toggle the month on the bottom to show dates where there are calendar events. The events were highlighted, but the calendar was empty. Odd...
Re-syncing to the Mac brought the events back and my other iPhone (both 3GS) didn't have the problem. The problem child was updated and synced on a (PPC) G5 and the second (non-problem child) was updated and synced on an (Intel) Macbook (current OS).
Otherwise no problems so far. Love the update.

iPhone 3GS -> iOS4 -> CalDav calendars appear in the list of calendars, but do not contain any entries.
If I create a new event in my CalDav calendar on the iPhone, it properly pushes the update to the CalDav server, then the entry disappears from the iPhone (the event remains on the server).
