Ios 5.1.1 ipad original safari crashing

Ipad 1 iOS 5.1.1 safari crashing constantly. Unable to update iOS. Need help

Double click the home button and dismiss all recents.  Then do a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.
That should make it more stable for a while.

IPad 1 Safari crashes frequently. I went to many Apple stores in different countries and each Apple staff member had their own different opinions with no help. I had upgraded my iOS to 5.1.1 and the Safari crashing started about one year after the upgrade and some Apple staff blame this- but this started one year later after the iOS upgrade. Recently at the Apple Store in Vancouver an Apple staff reset my computer (erased everything and sent to iCloud to reset the iPad) and I hoped this would fix the problem. IPad Safari still crashes. Short of booking an appointment for taking it for repair to Apple technicians which will cost me money can anyone help me to fix this Safari crashing.

    Hi,
You might have a 3rd party plugin that isn't compatible with Safari 4.0.4. Go here for help...
Safari add-ons can cause performance issues or other situations
If you are using a USB hub, try disconnecting and restarting with just your keyboard and mouse connected.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Mac OS: Web Browser Quits Unexpectedly or Stops Responding
Also, you could download and install the 10.5.8 combo update (PowerPC) available here.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
It contains fixes that might help. Then repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

iPad 1 Safari Crashes Constantly and getting worse day by day.  Has Apple come up with a solution?  Now I am hearing its also happening on the newer models.  My company is about to buy a lot of tablets and I will not recommend Apple anything until they fix the problem.  Granted 30 or 40 iPads is not a huge impact but i promise once the outside world hears about this BS things will change.  There are plenty of other tablets out there that do not have this problem.  At the very least we should have the option of rolling back to a stable IOS...

I have already tried all the things mentioned above as well as other things such as other browsers etc.  Its is obviously a problem with the hardware.  I also borrowed a brand new 4th gen iPad and it does the same thing.  Even after upgrading it to 6.01.  An occasional crash is one thing and can easily be waved off but this is clearly systemic and the problem appears to be related to graphical images and videos.  Both iPads are the 64gb versions, the only difference other than model is the iPad 1 has ATT cellular.  The new version is clean i.e no other APPs loaded other than what came with it.  I have 7 more coming but im seriously considering sending them back in favor of an Android tablet or the MS Surface.

  • On my iPad Air Safari crashes and quits when I view a slideshow.

On my iPad Air , Safari crashes and quits when I view a slideshow on an internet site. Sometimes it doesn't crash but the slideshow is freezes. Any idea why?

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data (Clear Cache on iOS 4) and also Clear History
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • IPad Air safari crashs all the time

Safari crashes all the time. Safari settings reseted - no positive result! Mostly, when zooming into the web page.
Dear Apple, when are you going to fix this annoying faulty Safari app?
I am not alone with this fault, please read your own Apple forum! Or just google it....
    By the way, response appreciated!

Just posting to second this and also mention that the problem is not limited to iPad Air.  I definitely have it on my iPad Air, but have also had it on iPhone 5 and iPad 2 ever since "upgrading" to iOS 7 over two months ago.
    APPLE, PLEASE FIX THIS NOW!!!

  • IPad 1 safari crashes

My safari crashes with the latest update of os. Any thoughts?

Clear History and Clear Cookies and Data doesn't solve the issue.  Actually had a replacement IPad sent as support said it was a hardware issue and I was still under warranty. New IPad behaves the same. I find Safari crashes if a page is slow caching.  Could be memory issue or just a plain iOS 5 bug Apple's not addressing.  A real headache, especially when it happens most often in the ITunes store.

  • IPad original constantly crashing. Want to completely re-install OS.

My original iPad has been constantly crashing. I'm using iOS 5.0. I was at the Apple Store recently on another matter and the Genius there said I should re-install the OS from scratch but *not* do a restore. She said I should do everything manually, including re-installing all apps by hand. And only then should I restore data from the cloud.
Just want to confirm that I understood her correctly. Is this the correct way to proceed? If so, what's the outline of steps to take?

Well, here's the unfortunate update from 6 days later. I wiped the iPad and only had iTunes update the firmware and the OS. Then, with nothing else installed, I tried out Safari. It crashed and burned. It was also sluggish and suffering from major latency...just like before.  Not good.
Then, I installed a fresh copy of Netflix from the App Store. Tried to use the seach box. Typed a few characters and (just like before) it crashed and burned.  So, the 2 litmus test apps I used to diagnose my initial problem didn't pass even the simplest smoke test on a newly paved iPad.
This can mean only 2 things: either my iPad is hosed in some way (bad memory maybe) or perhaps the original iPads are just not happy with iOS 5.0 or 5.1.
I'm not going to sit here and bash Apple, either. I'm an Apple fan boy *AND* a Windows fan boy. I love both platforms and do development work on both. But Apple has a reputation for coming out with new software that isn't compatible with earlier hardware platforms. That's how they do business, and it's what keeps them innovating. Microsoft tries to stay compatible with older platforms for as long as possible, and Microsoft hasn't innovated in years. It is what it is.
One of my memory tools for the iPad shows that after starting Safar and Netflix, I have less than 5 mb of RAM left on the system. Now, you don't need a CS degree to know that 5 megs of free RAM only *any* system is a recipe for disaster. I just don't think the old iPad version 1.0 was designed with multitasking in mind.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated. But at this point, I've already reinstalled everything from scratch using my backup so at least I haven't lost all of my personall settings. The iPad still crashes all the time, and I deal with it by trying not to run more than one app at a time. I guess Apple really wants me to "upgrade" to an iPad version 3.0...

  • IPad 3 safari crashing since 7.1.2 update

I Updated all 3 of my is devices last week - iPhone 5c, iPad 3 and iPad 4, but only the iPad 3 is having problems with crashing Safari. Specifically, when trying to fill out forms on a number of different websites, it's crashing every time.
So far I've tried clearing the Safari cache, clearing all website data, and done hard resets after each change. Still crashing. I'm also making sure all other apps are closed, in case it's a memory problem?? It's a 16G ipad 3 and I have 1G of memory left. No problems with my 64G iPad 4.
Is anyone else else having this problem? Is there anything else I should try?
    Thanks for any help.

There were a number of people and tech sites talking about the update to iOS 7 being forced on their devices when the iOS was released almost a year ago. I had never heard of anything like that before, and I cannot recall what the supposed reasoning was behind the update being forced on devices. Activation Lock was introduced in iOS 7 and I can't remember if that was alleged to be the force behind the update appearing automatically on people's devices, but until iOS 7, auto downloads of an iOS were unheard of.
The biggest and most annoying issues that I have experienced as  I have downloaded the latest updates were and continue to be issues with the keyboard. The keys stick, auto-correct in general has been flakey and here in the ASC it has become a joke the way it works. I have also noticed that the battery seems to drain faster with each new major update. I realize that my iPad is over two years old now, but there is no question in my mind that as soon as I started using iOS 7, which was over a year ago, my battery performance started to suffer a little bit. At that time, my iPad was not quite a year and a half old, so I believe that the strain from iOS 7 was the bigger contributor to the battery performance than the age of the battery itself. I also experience more crashes than I did in iOS 6, and once again, I believe that the iOS is taxing the A5 processor more than iOS 6 did (which makes sense IMO) and iOS 8 will tax it even more.
Having said all of this, my iPad 3 still performs quite well for the most part. It doesn't perform like it did out of the box two years ago, but I don't expect it to either since it is running two iOS versions higher than what was installed on it, and the demands of the iOS do take a toll on the device. By the same token, there are many, many users that claim that their older iPads (versions 2 & 3) run just fine with each new upgrade.
I am not retired and living on a fixed income, but I am self employed and struggling to keep a slowly dying business going for another couple of years so that I can retire, and start collecting a decent Social Security check. I would love to be able to keep my iPad 3 humming along for another couple of years. I am using an iMac at work that is over 6 years old, running Tiger 10.4.11 without any problems at all. I want to get as many years as I can get out of my computers, tablets and phones.
I found a couple of articles that talk about keeping enough free space on your device in order to keep it running smoothly and efficiently. The free space issue I something that some people don't attach that much importance to and some people think it's very important. If your iPad is running OK filled to the max, then it's obviously not an issue for you.

  • Apple rejected v27 iOS 7.0.4 iPad 3 for crash on download

    Hi,
Not sure how we are supposed to "troubleshoot" these kinds of things... any guidance appreciated.
Apple have rejected our app with:
"Your app crashed when we the download was near completion. Subsequent launch was successful however, the user needed to download the issue a second time. Altogether, is a poor user experience."
We are deliberately trying to support iOS 5 (which appears to be out the window now because we are unable to rebuild the app because AppBuilder "expired" and the new version only supports v28/29...
The crash log attached is pretty meaningless to most of us here but since we didn't build the app and have no visibility over the thing, we aren't really sure what we are supposed to be able to do about this issue... Do we submit the log to Adobe, since its v27 are we "**** outa luck" because its no longer supported?
What about all those poor folks with iPad1s that are suddently unable to access content if people start building folios for v28 and up...?!?
    Again, any guidance appreciated.

No it tested fine for us... but we only can test on iPad1 and 2 we don't have 3 which is what Apple are saying crashes for them.
NOTE: they also indicated that its just a one time only thing - I'm assuming on download of the folio, but they didn't specify.
(resubmit? just re-upload the same binary via ApplicationLoader?!?)
How exactly do we check for "potential memory problems"?! Please provide tutorials or links/resources/etc...
From the content on that page (the link above) it SOUNDS like if we could just get the v27 app approved we could update it with a v28/v29 app and support everything... but not if Apple will keep rejecting it... hmmm... thoughts/suggestions is this something that Apple and Adobe can negotiate "I promise to update my app with a second app that supports iOS7 as soon as this old app is approved..." or something like that...
This is an exerpt from the crash log if that helps...

  • Safari crashing a lot in iOS 5

Under iOS 4 I use to have Safari crash on average once every few days. Now under iOS 5, I would say it crashes on me several times a day. Anyon else experiencing this? It's really noticeably less stable.

When you have problems with the Safari app...
    Tap Settings > Safari
Tap Clear History then tap Clear Cookies and Data.
    Restart your iPad.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button down until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

  • Running ios5.1.1 on original iPad. system constantly crashes and returns to home page when on the web. using safari.

Running IOs 5.1.1 on original Ipad. System constantly crashes returning to the home screen when in internet. Using Safari browser. is there anything I can upgrade or clear to help??

There are a few things that you could try. First try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data and also Clear History

  • Ipad mini retina display safari crashed with ios 8.0.2

After updating my daughters iPad Mini retina display, safari crashes as soon as anything is entered in the search box. This started after IOS 8.0.2 update.
I have rebooted and reset the iPad. I have cleared the history and website data, but nothing has helped.

    Try some basic troubleshooting:
    (A) Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    (B) Try reset all settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
    (C) Setup as new (data will be lost if you do not have backup)
    Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings

  • Safari crashes on iPad after ios 5 update

Anyone elses Safari crash constantly after updating your iPad 1 to IOS 5?  Try surfing Apple's own website.  Thanks

    markcody wrote:
I switched all the iCloud merged options to off in settings. so far that seems to be preventing the constant crashes on my iPad 1.
100 pct correct -- though even better I was able to narrow it down to one simple thing: bookmarks sync in iCloud.
Turn that off, problem goes away.
Then turn it back on, still no problem.  Problem gone, syncing on.
Maybe something unique for me, maybe not.  I'd be interested if that works for anyone else in this discussion.

  • Safari crashes on iPad 1 with ios 5.0.1

After I upgraded my iPad 1 to iOS 5, it became very unstable, and I reported to apple and set to send all crash reports to apple... Yesterday I upgraded to ios 5.0.1 in hopes that it will fix crash issues, and looks like it didn't. Please let me know if your iPad crashes that much. For example, if I go to this URL, safari always crashes: http://www.stypi.com/hacks/13sentences

I am experiencing the very same issue. iOS 5 was always a little less stable than 4 on my iPad (1), but since I've upgraded to 5.0.1 Safari crashes constantly on sites I used to visit frequently without a problem, such as NYTimes.com. Please patch!
    I have tried
    - soft restart (holding buttons down til the Apple icon appears)
    - quitting all suspended apps
    - resetting network settings
To no avail.  Seems to be a memory management problem.
