IOS crash, screen distortion after impact, reset then 100% working?

Hey guys, something really odd happened today. I dropped my iPhone 4S running 6.1.2, and it hit the ground from about 1.5 meters high. At first I was just thankful none of the glass broke, but when I looked at the screen it had this orange haze to it, it was pixelated like an overcompressed JPG and it had all these white black and grey vertical lines running through it. I was certain the display had kicked the bucket, but then it faded to black, and reboot to the Apple logo. After a few minutes it started up again, and everything was 100% normal. No issues with the display, no weird idiosyncrasies with the software. I'm completely at a loss for what could have possibly happened. Anyone have any ideas?

hey...was trying to be a gentleman and let a lady through the door while holding the phone in the same hand I was holding the phone in...the 4S decided it can fly and *BAM* splat on the floor.judging by the sound I thought "dang, there goes the screen", but the screen didn't crack so though "phew-happy days" and went ahead and pressed the button and well.... distorted colours of all kind of lines, unreadable, but still was able to answer a call. Unlucky, this has not restored to it's original state by itself and the fact I got the phone second hand from my mate there is no warranty so let this be a lesson to all you guys out there- manners don't pay lol...

Hello. Today, I was updating my iPod Touch 4th Generation to iOS 6. I unplugged the iPod when it was during the installation because it appeared to be frozen. Now the iPod is stuck at a light blue screen even after I reset it. How do I fix it?

You will need to do a DFU restore by holding the home and power buttons down (while the device is plugged in to your computer) until the device's screen goes black and as soon as the screen goes black, count down from 3 and release the power/sleep button, but keep holding down the home button. Then, iTunes will say the iPod needs to be restored. The restore process will take some time and even though the iPod may appear to be frozen, don't interrupt the restore.

  • Screen distortion after upgrading to mavericks os

I own a late 2011 MBP 13". Last week I upgraded to Mavericks and regret it ever since. Firstly, it's become unbelievably slow. Secondly, and most importantly my screen resolution is now distorted and completely messed up. Immediately I suspected if Mavericks had screwed some setting. So I looked up Google for screen distortion after upgrading to Mavericks. The results were surprising! There are many apple discussions going on about the same thing. After reading most of them, as suggested in almost all threads, I took my laptop to the service station. The initial response given to me was that they suspected a hardware issue. All threads had indicated what to expect so I was not surprised. I explained to them clearly that there are discussions revolving around this topic and many users have been affected because of this. I even showed / shared the links of the various discussions on this topic. The service station in India asked for more time to investigate further. In the mean time I contacted the Indian call centre to report this problem. The service station reverted after their investigation that my logic board was corrupted and needed replacement. Phew!!! The cost of replacement is as good as buying a new MBP. It's really amusing because my MBP is less that 2 years old and unfortunately I do not have extended warranty.
Has anyone facing the same issue been able to convince apple that this is a mavericks issue? Does even apple recognize this as an issue in the first place? Does apple expect people to blindly invest in hardware just because they have released a new OS?
    These and many more questions....
    Expecting answers!!!
Not a good start to 2014

The startup disk may need repairing ...
Restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys.
From there you should be able to access the built in utilities in OS X Recovery

  • OS X crashing & screen distortion

    Hi all,
I am running 10.6.4 and for some time now, after the update to .3 and .4 my iMac has been crashing. What happens is it freezes with the spinning beach ball and becomes unresponsive. The mouse still moves and if video / audio is running in the background I can still hear it playing. I have no option but to hold the power button in and switch off / on.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Are there any fixes?
The last time it happened I was running iTunes, Mail and Safari (which was streaming Sky Sports from the Sky website).
Also, I occasionally get image / screen distortion where part of the screen stretches and then returns. Has anyone had that also?
    Many thanks,
    Ian

Alt + tab isn't the default app switcher hot key sequence; command + tab is. But since I asked specifically about the command + option + escape hot key sequence, I wonder if you are using an Apple keyboard or perhaps a non-Apple one with differently marked keys. If so, try both the mapped & unmapped versions of the keys -- IOW, try all the modifier key combinations.
Also try temporarily disconnecting all non-essential peripherals like external drives or printers. Try starting up in Safe Mode & try logging into a newly created temporary user account. If the beach balls don't happen with any of these things, let us know.

  • Screen distorted after sleeping or start up

When I wake my computer up from sleep the screen  used to, at times, be distorted in that the words would be widened.  I would put it back to sleep and usually it would fix itself but not always.  Sometimes I would have to restart it or completely shut it down but as of today I can't get the distortion to go away.  It started doing this within the first year I bought my laptop; I've had it about 27 mo. now.  Could someone tell me what I need to do to fix this annoying problem?

    Hello,
    1. as advised above make sure you have latest bios installed with your unit (F.29 for 1/2015)
    2. check your VGA driver and if you have newer than in hp.com go back to HP driver (sp56458)
    3. your unit use VGA chip in AMD cpu and shared memory. Try to move your 4gb memory module to second memory slot and test
If none above will help you can backup your personal data and do factory reset = recover your SW image to factory SW installation (F11 when system starts)
If none above then you have hardware issue and your unit need HW troubleshooting. There might be memory, CPU or mainboard issues. Please contact HP service for more help.
    I am an HP employee.

  • Can't get past align screen step after hard reset

I have a palm 755 and I performed a hard reset to restore the default settings on the phone to access some features I couldn't figure out and my touch screen won't work now. The first step says to touch the screen to begin setting up the phone, so I touch the screen with the stylus and it goes to the align screen step with no problem. Then when I try to touch the corsshairs with the stylus to begin calibration nothing happens...I don't know if maybe there is a way to skip this step or what but I guess my touch screen doesn't work now? What can I do? Thank you for your help!

    excuse me sorry it's a 750...*correction*

  • Unstable screen distortion after startup - scrolls left to right rapidly

My Mac Mini (2.0/2GB/GMA 950) will not provide a stable screen after startup process completes - the screen rapidly scrolls left to right (possibly right to left, cant be sure) and the mouse pointer appears broken up until I move the mouse to the lower right corner of the display.
I can get a menu bar menu to drop down, then move the mouse to the corner to stabalize, then use the keyboard to active available commands - but any movement of the mouse cause the screen to resume the instability.
this only occurs after the initial staup process completes - the startup icons display normal until the loging window or desktop is displayed - then the display goes unstable, scrolling horizontially rapidly.
This occures in any display resolution I can access, with alternate mouse & keyboards, and even without mouse or keyboard. Also occurs after changing back to original 2x512 memory modules.
This also occurs with a clean statup from the original installation DVD as well as a 10.5 & 10.6 installation DVDs which suggests a Hardware failure.
However when I boot into Windows XP using the BootCamp partition the system behaves completely normal - no display problems what so ever.
Any suggestions on how to narrow this down to a software driver or hardware? Any notices from Aplle that relates to this to a hardware problem?

Hi. After a 'hard shutdown' - such as pulling the plug - the boot directory may be damaged. It may help to boot from the most recent system disc DVD that you have - could be the 10.4 retail disc - and use Disk Utility to Repair Disc
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh1018.html
If Disk Utility finds errors it cannot repair, you could try DiskWarrior
    http://www.alsoft.com/
You can boot from the DiskWarrior CD and run it - or download it to the laptop and run it, from the laptop, on the G5 internal boot drive, via firewire TDM
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
If none of this helps, please post again. Good Luck.
PS Have assumed you are on 10.4 - for 10.3 boot drive repair see
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=162662
Oh - and if you are on 10.4.3 or higher - if Disk Utility on the system DVD repairs the boot drive ok, you may then wish to run the Disk Utility > Disk Verify (the one on the 10.4.3+ boot drive) - just to check. More Good Luck.

  • Painted layers distorted after clicking "Reset Standard"

I am working on an animation using After Effects CS6, which includes painting over layers at specific frames.  I accidentally "x"d out my composition window, which I read could be restored by selecting "Window>Workspace>Reset Standard".  But when I did that, the layers I painted over were distorted.  The original unpainted parts of the layer are not where they are supposed to be, with only the marks I made to paint over the layer in their "proper place", and the parts I erased are back again.  I tried quitted without saving, throwing out a few hours of work, but that didn't help.  I own a Mac.  Is there any way I can recover from this, at least to revert the original layers back to normal?
Here's a visual of one of the layers.  The "face" shown is the original file from photoshop and it has shifted to the left for some reason.  It should be positioned where the three splotches on the right are (those splotches are the edits I made using the paint tool on top of the layer).  Please help, I worked months on this and I can't afford to lose everything.

If there's no way to undo this, someone please just tell me that there's no way to undo this.
Or at least offer better alternatives than "Reset Standard" to bring the composition window back WITHOUT screwing up the layers, or tell me how to manipulate certain parts of layers like the parts above so that I can fix the layers easily (if that's even possible).

  • My 4th generation ipod nano is stuck on the apple screen even after i reset it

My 4th generation ipod nano (the nano chromatic) is stu ck on the apple screen, i tried to restore it by putting it in disk mode like apple support stated but its not showing as connected in iTunes, everytime i reset it, it just shows me the apple logo and nothing else, my warranty has long expired and i need my ipod so please help !

I assume by a reset you mean holding both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear correct?  Keep in mind this may take a number of tries.
If that doesn't work, try connecting your iPod touch to your iTunes library in Restore Mode using the instructions from this Apple support document.

  • Weird Screen Distortion After Sleep

My display got all wacky sometimes when resuming from standby. I reverted to v. 8.15.10.1855 of the display driver (Intel Mobile 4), and the problem seems to have gone. I noticed this problem after upgrading to version 8.15.10.1968.
Has anyone else noticed a problem like that?

  • My daughters Ipod Touch is stuck with a black/blue screen. She downloaded the game Breakaway from the App store yesterday and today she opened the game it said this game is not connected to game centers and the screen went black/blue reset didn't work

She downloaded the game Breakaway from the App store yesterday and today when she opened the game it said "this game is not connected to game centers" and the screen went black/blue.  I tried resetting without the power adapter and with the power adapter and nothing happens.  She has only had the Itouch for 2 weeks.

I did try that numerous times and nothing happened.  However, I did eventually get it to work.  After trying to reset it numerous times and the screen still just staying frozen I logged into the Home Share portion on the Home computer and deleted the Bubble Birds game.  Eventually the Itouch died and I was finally able to reset it by plugging it in and holding down the buttons.  I doubt the deletion of the game helped, but since it seemed to be the cause, I went ahead and deleted it.  Thank you for your reply.

  • Mac randomly crashes, screen turns green and white, and it works fine upon restart. What causes this and how can I fix it?

My MacBook Pro 13 inch (I've had it for about a year and a half) has started crashing randomly. It happens about once a week and it will happen when I'm in the middle of either watching a video, typing a paper, playing a game, etc. The computer clicks loudly and the screen becomes a series of green and white lines. It works fine upon restart, but it's still annoying whenever it happens. What causes this? Is it fixable?

The image suggests an issue with the graphics board.
The issue may happen more when your machine is generating additional heat, as when you're watching or processing video, or gaming. I can't say for certain, of course, but certain things will reduce the chance of the problem recurring:
    1. Keep your machine as cool as possible. When there's additional heat, turn up the fan, or use an app like HD Fan Control to reduce the heat. Use your computer the way you see fit, but be conscious of heat.
    2. Back up on a regular basis. Logic board problems can lead to more serious issues down the line, so backing up is a good way of safeguarding your data.
    3. Look up "Logic Board Woes" on Google for a comprehensive discussion of the issue.

  • Freeze while updating after retoring, resetting, charging etc etc

itunes didn't recognize ipod and !folder showed on ipod screen. After charging, resetting, & restoring, I got a disk insertion message. I erased disk and could then import songs to ipod and play songs, but as ipod was mid update of itunes library it froze. Continues to freeze on random songs even updating manually. Did I miss a step? Or does my ipod need work?

    You know,
I'm on my second ipod now. I purchased my last one in late December of 2004. By March, Apple had to replace that one. Now, the replacement that they had sent me is freezing to the point of not functioning. 1 year is PATHETIC for a $300 dollar product. However, I NEED an mp3 player. I couldn't live without one. Am I going to buy another ipod...I don't know. I can understand the battery needing to be replaced, but total failure within such a short period of time is atrocious! When I contacted Apple, I was told that there is nothing that can be done, and that, next time, I should buy the AppleCare. So, for $60 more, I'll have my purchased replaced for 2 years. Because it sure won't last that long. That is not acceptible!

Unfortunately all software is gone now.
When I start the Adobe Reader mobile it says "10 days trial" version. Do I have to pay again?
    Thanks for your answer

    Hey
no you don't have to pay again absolutely, just download it again and insert the code received by mail
