I have no idea what they've done to the photos app in iOS8. Obviously, the camera roll and photostream have changed, but can someone explain how it works. I'm deathly afraid to experiment because I recently lost ALL of my photos from a dream trip to the Western US (not related to the new iOS).
I used photostream to get the photos to my iPad, then deleted the photos from my iPhone to make room for new pictures. When the photos synced onto my iPad under the new iOS8, it was completely different. First, in the recently added album, the photos synced in a jumbled order, meaning not in the same order that they were taken on the phone. This makes it very difficult to make sure that all of the photos made it. Second, in the moments section, the photos are in perfect order, but not all of the photos synced in. Many are missing.
I thought about shutting off the photostream, and then turning is back on. This would delete all of the photos, but will they sync back up once photostream is turned back on.
To make things more confusing, I've read posts saying that the photos will only be saved for so many days. Is this true? I thought that they were stored on the internal drive.
Shoudl I upload the photos to the iDrive?
Before iOS8 all of this was fairly easy to use and understand. Now it just seems to be more confusiing. I started using Apple products for their simplicity, but I'm starting to rethink my decision.

How to get img number in ios8 Photos

I migrated from iPhoto to ios8 Photos on my iPad and I don't see how to display the img number that I used to be able to display in iPhoto. I import photos from my Canon DSLR and getting the img number of the imported photos is very important. Please help.

Sorry, you cannot display any information with your photos in the new iOS Photos.app.
You may want to send feedback to Apple, that the ability to display meta data with the photos is essential.

Ios8 photos with edit and lte

Hello, sorry to ask but I have 3 questions. In order of importance.
My Phone is Iphone 5S
1. I updated my phone to iOS 8.02, which deleted all of my photos from the phone. it was not synced, it updated while disconnected. Restoring from a back up file before update didnt change anything (it had me go through initial setting after update again, and photos were missing. I updated 10/13 and back up file was from 10/12). I pulled the photos out to a separate folder, so I have recovered 2000 photos.
Problem is that these photos have lost all of the edits, which I have most of my photos cropped.
photo tab which lists all the photos ive taken since 2005 have those edits in but i can only move about 6 at a time so this is troubling.
Q: Is there a way to restore photos back in to an album with an edits?

2. Since iOS7 my phone would loose reception in schools and streets etc. I would understand high mountain forested area but in middle of the street in city (near bus stop etc) loosing an entire connection where my phone call would stop until I travel quite a distance is weird. LTE and 4G both loose connection in random locations and it is very slow. (It takes about an hour to load a 30 min video. through safari.) However youtube is perfectly fast and smooth. (But can't use HD cuz its not wifi.) If I access youtube through a web for HD, it is slow as mentioned above. Loading images from deviant art or tumblr(in app) takes 30-60 sec per image as well. Sometimes they fail to show up which I have to refresh the page, or they show up in low res, where I can see chunk of pixels and can't read. Thankfully sometimes when I zoom in the image gets rendered to higher res, but its so far random luck.
Q: Is LTE and 4G supposed to be so slow that loading an image online takes 30-60 sec or is my phone broken?
3. When I updated to iOS7, my song library was wiped so my songs which were listed in order is now alphabetical order which itunes have done it without permission. iOS8 have done this with a photo.
Q: Is there something that window user needs to fix in setting to prevent a data loss?

iPhoto always works on a copy of the file. It does this as a failsafe, allowing you to use the Photos -> Revert To Original command, should you find you've gone too far in an edit.
When you edit a pic in iPhoto, or via iPhoto with another editor, iPhoto shows you the altered pic, and to all intents and purposes works with the altered pic in the future, inless you use the Revert command.
So, unless you choose otherwise if you email, share, export a pic, it will be the edited version that is used.

IOS8 Photo app now inferior to iPhoto App w/o Photo Journal feature?

iPhoto app on iPad and iPhone now obsolete under IOS8 and replaced by Photo app.
BUT apple, where is the iPhoto Journal feature anywhere in Photo app?
so, now IOS no longer has Photo Journal, I consider that as one of the best feature why using apple, as I can easily create very nice phot journal and share w friends.
now, that entire feature is GONE!!!!!????? Apple, how can u downgrade user features from IOS7!!!!

I regularly order printed albums from iPhoto from my Mac. I (my wife) would like to do so from an iPad running IOS8 but cannot find an option to do so after updating to IOS8.1.1. and being forced to migrate to Photos. Any ideas?

Thanks, as I thought. Apple seems to chipping away at the things that make them unique. I don't want my Mac to be exactly the same as my iPad thanks.

Wow - a nice IOS8 for lots of stuff - but what happened when you reworked the Photo App??
Bring back the function of Camera Roll and Photostream!
(would also be nice to have my pictures back which I lost from Camera Roll after the upgrade!!)
Nice idea of sharing all my pictures with all my devices BUT I would prefer to do my own sharing or at least be able to choose between all or as I want..:)
What happened with Albums Synced from my Mac? - there is no sorting on names anymore - so all my albums are one big mess...
Apple - come on, let us have your input and even better comments of when you rework this so its useful again..:)

I have send feedback to Apple - and if they act as always - its takes a few weeks and some of the issues will be solved..:) maybe the programmer even find that he "missed" the sorting of album names

IOS8 photos deleted from phone

After upgrading to iOS8, all of the photos from my phone have been deleted and it only shows the last 102 recent photos. I had over 5,000 photos on my camera roll and I have no idea where those photos have gone or how to get them back. Even though, I have them on my iPhoto, I reference them all the time.
Second, it appears to be syncing with my iPhoto library at random and I DO NOT want this to happen, as I have over 48,000 photos in my library (I know, it's big). It's also syncing at random with photos that are years and years old that I have no need for on my phone.
How to I change the settings to fix both. Thanks!

Strange behavior again, with the original library : If I select NO event and use the menu Information, I've got 14.634 photos. If I select all events, I've got 15.760 photos. How can I have more photos in all events than in my Library ??????
Check, if you have hidden photos.
File > New Smart Album, with a rule: Photo is hidden
In my iPhoto Library the "Hidden" flag accounts for the difference in the Photos count between selecting all events and no events.
Make sure, "View > Hidden Photos" is enabled in the View menu, so you can recognize hidden photos by the X.

what gives apple?! I take a picture, go to Photos and since theres no more camera roll, I'm forced to go into Photos Tab, and when I select "Collections", I see the tiny thumbs of all my pictures sorted which look fine in chronological order, But when select to go down to the next level of viewing (Moments), the dates are all over the place! When I scroll all the way down, I should technically be at the most recent of my pictures taken. Its not, it shows Aug26. Then one above that Aug 21 Then next few are in Aug; mind you we are in September. Then theres Jun 25. THEN finally some recent photos of Sept 26 and 15!!! THEN the next one is MAY 31.
So trying to find my most recent photos taken is painstakingly tough.

Check this thread out. I have mobileme, but this solution worked, perhaps you could try something similar for your Gmail account...

Ios8 photo app problems?

I Take many photos in Raw format. Using the IPad Camera Connection Kit i was loading them on to my iPad to preview my pictures. no problems under ISO 7 but with ISO 8 nothing but problems. Files now seem to be too big for the iPad as it takes forever to load the picture. Old pictures I had saved now I cannot view because I can not swip right or left to view the next picture. Is anyone else having simular problem?

You cannot add tags and captions in Photos iOS 8, and you cannot see them when opening a photo. But the tags you added previously are still there when you migrate the iPhoto library to Photos. You will see that, when you use the search field and enter one of your tags or a caption. This will find all photos with this tagged you then can create an album of all tagged photos for each tag. Creating albums with distinctive names is the new way of tagging. You can search for album names.
I share your sentiments entirely, and I hope Apple will provide an update to Photos soon or offer app extensions to add the missing features.

IOS8 this photo is not editable - ?

Updated to IOS8 . Resynced all photos from Iphoto on Mac. When I try to edit a photo, I get a message saying
This photo is not editable
Do you want to duplicate it and edit a copy?

Why would I want to fill my iPad with Duplicate photos? - selecting the above option does indeed create an editable duplicate of the photo, which is a little pointless surely. FWIW iPhoto for IOS had none of the issues I'm finding with the IOS8 Photos app - really disappointing.
Anyone discovered a reason for this issue?

It's a real pain! My Photos app was so full of duplicated, even triplicated photos that I decided to make a clean sheet of it, so I delelted everything, using the Image Capture program on my iMac (he only Apple.way I could find of delelting all the photos on my iPad at one go), then I synced my iMac and iPad, thereby transferring the photos from iPhoto on the Mac to the iPad. Worked fine, except that now it is quite impossible to edit any of the photos, and that includes those in albums.
I do not use iCloud; I do not use Photo Sharing: everything to do with these is off on both devices.

Photos iOS8- I need help

As a long time Apple product user (and typical "go to person" for friends and family), the iOS8 Photos changes has completely lost me. I have no idea how to manage things, and something is simply not "clicking" with my pea-saized brain I guess. I have read countless explanations of things, and understand that the Photos-->Collections-->Moments represents a combination of Photos that have been taken with my iPhone, as well as those that have been downloaded from Photostream (in my case, these are Canon Camera-->iPhoto on Mac-->iCloud-->iPhone). Given that, here is what's confusing me:
1. How do I confirm what photos have been uploaded (which I treat as my "permanent archive") to iPhoto, yet are still sitting on my phone? That is, how/when can I confirm that it's safe to delete these from the phone?
2. Often, I will take several photos- for example, let's say I take 20 of a certain event/object on my phone. Once viewed in iPhoto (on iMac), I choose ~3 good ones that I'd like to keep, and delete the others... All 20 will remain on phone (indefinitely?) unless I delete them from iCloud Photostream... is this correct?
3. 3rd Party Apps- notably Instagram- seem to have no ability to access the photos that were originally taken with the other Camera... that is, photos originally taken with my Canon that appear "integrated" with others in my Collections/Moments view on the iPhone do NOT appear under Photos (or any of the other "folders" such as Names in Instagram)
I realize these are rambling & specific questions, but I'm thoroughly frustrated... anybody willing to offer thoughts- or perhaps just describe your current management/workflow- would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks.

If you are noticing a poor resolution in the viewer immediately after importing the photos this will only be temporary until the background processing has finished (I'm assuming you are running iMovie 10). Do you still see poor resolution after sharing?

ICloud Photo Library with automatic photo upload services such as Dropbox and Google

After enabling iCloud Photo Library in iOS 8, do automatic photo upload services such as Dropbox and Google+ still upload photos in full resolution?
Or do they upload the low resolution file?

Do not rely on it to store full res Photos/Videos even if you have a 200GB iCloud Store
Major Bugs (according to help description of fonctionality):
-only IOS8 Photos manually edited are uploaded full res from IOS ! If you do not edit you get low res photos in iCloud Library
-uploaded 1080p videos from IOS are converted to 720p 5mb/s as in existing Photo Sharing and not originals.
-No upload button in web iCloud photo Client on MAC for many (all?) users
Also very slow and very often stuck doing nothing.
I am afraid we would have to wait for next year... or later
What is unbelievable is that there are no information at all by Apple about what should word on the beta, and known problems, nor any release date, that is definitely not a beta, just powerpoint preview. I am very angry after all the fuss they have done around "new" iCloud and my 200GB monthly payment that I cannot use.

Photos not uploading to iPhoto with chrome filter

Since updating to iOS8, photos taken on my iPhone 5s with the chrome filter are uploading into iPhoto without the filter. Does anyone know how to change this? I want the photos on my computer to be the same as my phone. Please help

How are you importing? Photo Stream or USB?
Right now, there is no way in the Photos.app to save a copy the photo with the filter added to the camera roll, so it can be transferred this way by Photo Stream or USB. Mail the photo or share it to Dropbox, and wait for the iCloud Photo Library (Beta) to be released.
