Ios8 update installed and ipad is now dead!
I decided last night to update to ios8. Very simple.
The update ran, the screen kept asking to plug into itunes, which I tried to do but it wouldn't detect it. I rarely, if ever, connect it to a pc as I do everything with it over wifi. I read on the net that the way to get it out of that screen was to hold the on/off sleep button down for 10 seconds, then the home button for 5, then release the on/off button, leaving the home button depressed for another 5 seconds. It's been dead since! I have tried charging it thinking maybe it needs charging - no change - no life!!
Any suggestions?
You need to hold both buttons down together until you see the Apple Logo It may take more than one go hold for upto 30 seconds Bsydd uk

Please see the bold. If you're out of icloud storage, then you won't be able to backup to icloud unless you purchase more storage, but yet you said you backup to icloud.
If you really did backup to icloud no data would be loss - sounds to me that it didn't backup since you had no more free icloud storage space.

I am unable to download updates directly to iPad 2 , now trying to reinstall one from scratch but download keeps stopping and the restarting. Can you offer any advice, this happening when trying to download to laptop in itunes as well. Have tried to download on different broadband lines without success. Is this an apple problem due to high demand or something else?
Everything has worked well until about a month ago, up to date iOS 5 and itunes installed. Tried resetting numerous times, turned off all apps still no joy. Ipad was great but now feeling buying one was mistake. Also recent music purchase was useless and tunes would not play correctly.Since this is happening on the iPad and the computer, it might be worth a try to reboot your router - unplug it from power for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.
Quit iTunes on the PC, reboot it and the iPad as well
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons -
I got a software update message this morning and clicked install and restart. Now my e-mail icon has disappeared from the dashboard. How do I get it back?
Don't recall the exact wording. But it is the same in appearance as others. Anyway, problem solved using RogerWilmut1 reply to someone else. I opened Applications and got the icon back. Thanks for responding.

I am assuming that you are using a Mac. Update for 17.0.1 have been pulled off the server for Mac(see this - https://blogs.adobe.com/adobeillustrator/2013/11/illustrator-cc-updates-now-available.html
Please uninstall AI CC 17.0.1 & re-install again. You will be back on to the 17.0.0 version. This is MAC only change.
Please let us know if you are facing this issue on Win.

After updating to iOS8 my iPhone and iPads no longer autofill name and passwords
It worked fine in iOS7, it still works fine on an older iPhone 4 running 7 and an iPad Air also running 7. Also my Macs, an old MacPro 10.7.5 and a MacBook Air 10.9.5 work great, autofilling every time.
This is what Safari settings look like:
All the password info is still there under Saved Passwords.
I have tried turning Names and passwords off and on but no luck
What should I do?I can get autofill to work but it will only remember my last username and password used for the site rather then letting me start typing a username and then suggesting one and its password being automatically filled in if I hit space while the suggested username was showing or when i finished typing the username (how it worked in iOS 7). I'm having zero issues using iCloud keychain on my MacBook pro running Yosemite so I'm not sure if apple accidentally removed this functionality or if there is something I can do to get it back? I have keychain turned on as well as autofill passwords and when I go into the settings I can see all the accounts and passwords for this particular site so I know they're saved..very odd behavior. If no fix I'll just start adding them all to one password but this seems cumbersome considering safari has this feature built in.

If that doesn't help, open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db
Click Go
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Now here:
~/Library/Preferences
Click Go
Move these files from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
com.apple.appstore.plist
com.apple.storeagent.pllist
Now here:
~/Library/Cookies
Click Go
Move the com.apple.appstore.plist file from the Cookies folder to the Trash.
Empty the Trash, try the App Store. -
I have a macbook 4.1 with osx10.6.8 and just added memory (2gig) so I could sync my new IPhone and Ipad. Now I'm told at the apple store that I need to upgrade my operationg system. They said they couldn't help and gave me conflicting advice about what to do. Any ideas? Thanks you!
There are three models of MacBook that comprise the 'macbook 4.1' category, and each of them a little different; however other than 'macbook 4.1' the other thing they have in common is they all are considered Early 2008. Two are white, one black, polycarbonate case, Core2Duo 2.1GHz, 2.4GHz white, 2.4GHz black.
So if you can determine which one, if any of these, is the model build year and spec you have, that would be handy. Did you tell whoever you spoke to the serial number of your computer, so they'd know by looking up the specs to see what the supported maximum RAM upgrade capacity was, and other minimum requirements to make any upgrade to Mac OS X 10.6.8 at all?
If you have the serial number you can do a lookup to 'indentify by serial number' online, and use that information to determine if the computer needs even more RAM to take it past the minimum for Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and then get it ready to upgrade (via paid download from App Store, Snow Leopard gets you that far) and see what the next supported OS X full upgrade would be for the hardware limitations on that old MacBook.
If your MacBook IS a 4.1 build, the highest OS X it could run if it has the 2.4GHz cpu, is Lion 10.7.5. That would be an upgrade from the App store, available to OS X 10.6.8+ computers that access it online. And I kind of doubt how supported a newest iphone etc may be in lion.

The Apple? store or whoever you talked, to may have been as accurate as they could be without further research. Could be you may have a newer or older MacBook, which would change whatever later OS X it could run past 10.6.8. And to go past Snow Leopard, you need to download the last bits for 10.6.x to be able to go and get any later upgrade. The ones that may let a newest iphone or ipad work with it, are past SL10.6.8
Anyway, as you further verify the model build year and configuration specifications, report back.

It should be there. Are you sure the iPad is running iOS 5? You can check in Settings>Genreal>About. The iOS version is shown under Version.

Even though the downloads are for the same iOS version number, they are different downloads and you can't use an iPod iOS update to update an iPhone or iPad etc. The iPad 1 and iPad 2 are also different downloads. So you will need to download different updates for your iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad 1 and the iPad 2.

Crashed while updating Thumbs and hangs up now
iMovie crashed while updating thumbs and hangs up now. What can I do to reset it?
Go into your Movies folder in the Finder, and look for the "iMovie Events" folder: inside that folder there is a is an "Event" folder associated with each of your iMovie 7 projects. In each Event folder there is a "Thumbnails" folder containing the generated thumbnails fot that event (project).
Try deleting the offending (crashing) thumbnails or the whole "Thumbnails" folder for the crashing project. It worked for me.
PS: Apple should add a -- cancel -- button on the preview creation sheet, as there is actually no visible/invisible way to cancel or stop preview/thumbnails creation. The preview creation for the added videos was estimated at -- 612 minutes -- on my MacBook core2duo. That is exactly how I realized there was no cancel button, and no working shortcuts either (no escape key, no command-period would work). -
I upgraded Itunes about a month ago and since then It does not recognize my Ipod and then I tried to update again and it won't upgrade. The error message says it's on a unavailable network path not found. So I tried to get tech support they told me to delete and start over. I went through my control panel and it gave me the same network error and would not delete the software. I am beyond frazzeled over this. Please help.
Essentially 'b noir' is correct, it will be relating to the .msi file that is, for lack of a better word, screwed. It's a pretty long process in order to cleanly remove and redownload the correct file.
Not really a long process if you can hunt down a copy of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. If you have that installed and working, then so long as you know which particular msi (or msis) are being complained about, you can get past the issue in most cases pretty quickly. For example, for an itunes.msi message see:

There's some additional information in my notes on the bookmark about one possible complication requiring a bit more work.
